The staff was pretty professional and I barely had to wait around to the dentist. In general Dr. Kim is a pretty good dentist. I think he's used to getting very dental-phobic patients because he and his assistant would explain EVERYTHING they were doing, and constantly ask if I was OK. I grew up with a great dentist and have never been scared of them, so this seemed like a tad much to me. But I can appreciate how it would help someone be at ease. Dr. Kim was really responsive and knowledgeable about everything I asked. Just by glancing at my teeth and gums he know which ones were sensitive and bled and which ones I've never had trouble with, then he blew up my X-rays and put it on the screen (they have a personal computer for every chair btw, which is pretty cool) and showed me exactly why my gums bleed and where the "gum recession" was taking place. This was a cool thing no dentist had done for me before. Lastly, he gave me advice for better brushing and didn't get too mad at me for never flossing, though he made the message clear of how important it is. When he didn't find anything wrong with my teeth, he said I could and there was no copay! After dealing with slightly more pressure situations (car mechanics and vision people) I was very pleased he was completely honest about not needing to do more work, even if my insurance would have covered it. I didn't give 5 stars because I didn't think it was the best a dentist could possibly get. My hometown dentist was a little better, but there's also nothing wrong with this place. As with other places I have reviewed, I fully plan on returning whenever I need a dentist. Edit: I DID give it five stars after receiving a Starbucks gift card in the mail a week after my appointment. They totally bought me off for $8 :) But seriously it was very thoughtful and shows that my business means a lot to them. Also, one tid-bit I forgot to mention is that if the office is closed, any calls go directly to Dr. Kim's personal cell phone (that's actually how I made the appointment in the first place). I have a past with dentists I thought was scarred for life. I've often felt ashamed, afraid of pain and judged. My entire experience of going to the dentist changed with Dr. Kim. I couldn't ask for a more generous and educated man who is sensitive not only to what is needed to make my mouth healthy again, but also sensitive to everything from my emotions, to my comfortability in the chair to my financial situation. He worked with me in every way. I have gotten A LOT of work done and have not had a single issue during that time. The staff is great, flexible, the environment is peaceful- I got my work done in the mornings with the window open, birds singing. It's like having a practice in Snow White's cottage! After having been disappointed by another dentist in my HMO recently, I upgraded to PPO just so that I could get some decent dental care. Thanks to these reviews on Yelp, I found Dr. Kim. Dr. Kim's staff were friendly and I walked right into the exam room without even stopping in the waiting room. After my ex-rays, Dr. Kim came in and spent a long time with me explaining the results of the x-rays and even putting a camera in my mouth to show me pictures of the work that needed to be done. I've never had a doctor so communicative and who I felt honestly had my best interests at heart instead of the bill that would come at the end of everything. It's such a relief to have found someone I can trust. I highly recommend him and his staff, especially if you've had bad experiences in the past. read more

I'm not surprised by all the positive comments here. It's very difficult to find a humble, happy, and humane dentist in Los Angeles. I have had at least 10, all of which should have chosen other professions. I feel like there are a lot of insecure, disorganized and incompetent dentists. I had given up on finding a good dentist. I figured I'll just get dentures when my teeth rot. Not anymore. Wow, how refreshing it was to visit this office. The best customer service, on time, and I even got a thank you letter in the mail with a gift card to Starbucks!?? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatt??? Just be aware that there is an initial registration fee of some kind (I think it was like 60 bucks or something). Regardless, I would pay double that for this service because it's the first time I have walked out of a dentist's office without wanting to throw myself off of a bridge. Thank you! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Kim's for several years now and I'm extremely satisfied with the dental care I've received. In addition, the staff is warm and inviting. I'm always greeted on a first name basis by Bella, as soon as I walk in. I usually show up a minute or two before my appointment time and I am taken into the office almost immediately. When I leave, everyone says goodbye (that is, if they're not busy with a patient). I have never had any issues booking appointments. I receive reminders both online and via text - options that I have selected. They make it very easy to confirm appointments. There is ample parking in same lot. When I call, I'm always surprised to hear Dr. Kim answer the phone himself! This speaks to the level of customer service they strive for. read more

My husband and I went to Dr. Kim on the recommendation of a co-worker. I've had a check-up, a cleaning and two cavities filled. Dr. Lucio Kim is awesome. He gave me a replacement filling and a replacement crown (so far). The whole process was fast, efficient, and painless (yes, painless!). I was especially amazed that I didn't feel a thing from the shot for local anesthesia he administered. The whole process was just modestly uncomfortable but I think it's primarily from the assistant who didn't appear to be the best at suctioning. She was nice however, as are most of the staff at this office. In addition, I think Dr. Kim is pretty good with questions and his office is good with communicating the costs. Dr. Kim is the trusted and proven Dentist of my wife way before I even met wife. Knowing that my wife is very thorough, discipline and efficient, her compliments of Dr Kim as an excellent dentist and keeps a high standard of quality of work made me curious to test him out, so I did. He seems to be straightforward initially but as you get to know him, he is just caring and purposeful with you since he just values and respects your time and keeps up strictly with his appointments on time with other clients! He will diagnose your teeth case like he is "one of the Avengers", meaning protects your teeth from decaying and saving your oral health to last for a long time. In addition to that, he and his staff, specifically Bella, are wonderful in accommodating you and are patient with you to put you in schedule when you need emergency appointments! I had my first visit today with Dr. Kim, after my wife's positive experience. Until now, I was going to the UCLA Faculty Group Dental Practices, but after we moved to Glendale that was a bit too far and I have been looking for a new dentist closer to home. I'm glad my wife discovered Dr. Kim. My experience today was one of the most positive I've had at a dentist's office. The staff greeted me and promptly took me into my room - I waited less than 30 seconds after arriving. As I was a new patient and hadn't been to a dentist for a while I had full X-rays done and seconds later Dr. Kim came in. Again, no wait and very efficient. Unlike other experiences I've had, Dr. Kim not only listened closely to my history, concerns and past dental problems, but took all of that into consideration when he was examining me. I also like to ask a lot of questions about why certain things are the way they are and Dr. Kim took his time to explain things to me in a simple yet comprehensive way. For example, he gave me a great explanation about the link of periodontal and cardiovascular disease. Overall, I never felt rushed or that he was trying to get out the door to see his next patient - something I have experienced very frequently with other doctors in the past. Dr. Kim is one of those doctors you don't think exists-- where coming in for an appointment can be an actual pleasure, not a chore or something you dread-- but somehow, Dr. Kim is real, and coming to his office is LOVELY. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Kim and his staff. I was referred to his practice by a friend and her husband, who have been seeing him for years. I was completely floored when I came in for my first appointment and Dr. Kim greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. Before my x-rays, he took the time to ask about my dental history, and what I was hoping for in our dentist/patient relationship moving forward. I left todays cleaning in excruciating pain and with utter fustration. Yes I told them and wasn't even offered as much as a tylenol. I have tmj and the cleaning was painful to my jaws as well as my gums. When I questioned the extreme plaque removal they had done, ( I now have a gap in between my teeth which was alarming) I said what can I do and he said nothing. He seemed annoyed I asked. That would have been a perfect time to talk about my teeth. Do I have gum disease?, are my teeth going to fall out? Will this gap get bigger? Not an extremely vain person, but left feeling like a monster with a hole in my teeth. A "your teeth look good" or "your teeth will fall out soon" would have been nice. Then I said I would rather come back for my mouthguard mold because I was in pain, he said no big deal just do it, it will not hurt. By this time I had to wait 3 minutes per mold and it put me over the edge fighting back tears with pain. I guess I would look for a little more bedside manor when you are in pain and feeling like you look hideous. I have probably been to a dentist 50 times in my life including emergency tooth repair and wisdom teeth and I have never left a dentist in tears. Not sure if it was a bad day for them, but the lack of information about my teeth and lack of concern for my pain, was the oddest I have ever experienced at a dentist. Most dentists are overly nice because so many people are afraid of them. I feel like I need to go get another cleaning just to find out if my teeth are ok and if this hole will get bigger or what to do. I paid for the mouth guard and have to go back, hopefully it fits, works and I will never go back again. read more

But when I went to another dentist afterwards (I can spot "marketing" right away), he showed me how subpar Kim's xrays were (they were unreadable, really), fought with my insurance company for another set, didn't charge me, and gave my TEETH better service. I went in for a mouth guard fitting which I should add Dr Kim gave me a discount on since I lost my previous one. I had noticed there was a new nurse who had helped Dr Kim fit my mouth guard. He was uncharacteristically rude to her. He kept barking out orders and yelling "it's there! It's there! Can't you see it! Give me that now! I think the nurse couldn't understand him and felt very embarrassed and tried to confront him and they started arguing while they were jamming a mouth guard in my mouth. It was very stressful and uncomfortable. I tried to tell them the mouth guard was too tight and it hurt my teeth and he said it should be tight. At one point Dr Kim tells me to bite down and then accuses me of trying to bite him and starts yelling at me. I tried to tell him I wasn't and he replies "yes you were!" Ummmm does Dr Kim need a vacation? I'm bummed to write this as I've been seeing Dr Kim for the past 3 years and pretty happy with the office and their services. It's not amazing, but it's still fast, effortless, and friendly. But I will never go back to be treated by someone who doesn't have respect for his employees and me! read more

As nice as Dr Kim is, he suggested that I needed to get all four wisdom teeth removed, and five cavities filled when I needed less than half that much work. This was after I asked him to be conservative since I don't have insurance. I couldn't afford all of that and didn't want the credit card his staff was pushing, so I waited. It's been two years almost, and I finally have insurance. My new dentist removed ONE wisdom tooth and filled only two cavities, and this is with insurance- so he has no motive to be overly conservative. Dr Kim was definitely trying to sell me procedures I did not need to the tune of many thousands of dollars. Not cool at all. read more

Dr. Kim is unlike any dentist I've ever been to before. He called the day prior to my appointment and asked if I had any questions. When I arrived his amazingly friendly staff thanked me for being early and then ushered me into examination room (is that what they call the room with the big tooth chair?) slightly before my scheduled times. The assistant took x-rays of my teeth and was constantly making sure I was comfortable. Then the doctor arrived. He was very professional and did a thorough cleaning of my teeth. (Apparently I really needed it.) I actually enjoyed the experience. I wish every medical professional was even half as courteous and professional. Oh, Dr. Kim with the rock-star name and the movie-star smile... I travel for my job, so it had been a good long time between dentist visits, so long that i didn't have a referral in Los Angeles. My friends Lauren & Ethan gave me a card, with the name Lucio Kim, DDS stamped on it, saying, "go, he's the best--" I stuck it on my fridge and still didn't go. Not for a year more... Not afraid or anything, just no insurance, no time, blah blah blah. Finally, i went for my initial visit and full x-rays last week-- good news... no one rolled eyes at my plaque or my tardiness in teeth cleaning, the staff was friendly and the Doctor himself was a no-nonsense wealth of information. He showed me what the xrays meant and how the photos of my teeth told a story-- a story I could see easily, as a non-dentist person. We worked together on a plan I could commit to and when I got home, my phone rang, it was the Doc himself saying, we have a cancellation, want to get started? I did...yes, I did! and so yesterday I had a teeth-cleaning, poor Chelsea had her work handed to her, but she drilled and buffed with a smile. I bled alot, and looked like a horror movie extra...but that's what happens when you wait too long, friends. When i got home from the cleaning, (feeling a little sorry for myself and self-righteous at same time, i went to the dentist) the mailman handed me a personal thank you from the good people at 620 E. Glenoaks, Glendale, via real mail! meow! bonus points for a terrific parking lot and lots of magazines to read. best of all, last night when I flossed with the new floss that they gave me, no blood, no tears and now I am on the road to a plaque-less mouth. Every member of the staff with whom I dealt was supremely knowledgeable and nice (if you have questions about insurance, the reception Bella knows her stuff), and the office is clean and modern. A computer attached to the patient chair so you can see instant digital photographs of your mouth? Cool. Dr. Kim was extremely thorough and super informative, providing more information than I am used to and answering all of my questions. And he was complimentary on my oral hygiene. His style of practice suits what I had been looking for. He's very honest, listens to hear your expectations, and his work is impeccable. I wen to Dr Kim because I needed my annual check up and was thinking about getting veneers. He told me that he was only concerned with my dental health and didn't care what my teeth looked like as long as they were healthy. I liked that answer as many dentists I'd seen in the past would have told me I NEEDED a lot of unnecessary work. I liked his answer and still proceeded to opt for veneers. Wicked good dentist! Another long overdue 5 star review for Dr. Kim. Its worth mentioning that I have horrible teeth and I've moved around this fair city more than a few times. As a result I've been to a few dentists. Dr. Kim (and everyone in his office) was friendly, knowlegeable, took the time to explain his role as my dentist and his long-term plan for me as his patient.
