Still a terrific spot and a dive bar icon in NYC. Even though they have renovated it a bit it still retains that old school vibe. Walking in last night brought back many memories of times I spent here with friends getting tipsy. I do miss the red duct taped booths which have been updated but still there, and still red. The backyard area used to be a dump and unusable but now it's a great area to watch a game on a giant flat screen with fun signage on the walls and more seating. The beers are still cheap as are the shot deals, and they still give you free hot dogs with every drink - and unheard of bargain nowadays. The locals are still here with their quirky personalities , and the bartenders are still friendly. Of course, Baron Von Swine is still out in front welcoming patrons to come inside. read more

I came in around 2:30pm on a Sunday, sat at the bar in clear view of both bartenders, and was ignored for an uncomfortable amount of time. They saw me. They just didn't care. Narrow, long bar that has minimal booths in the first part of the bar, with an additional seating area downstairs in the back. Cash only bar where you can get some beers (including their own drafts) for $4 a glass or $20 for a pitcher. Hot dogs are free with a purchase so I'd ask for how many you'd like when ordering your drinks. Bartenders are brief and to the point, definitely the kind of bar you need to know what you're getting yourself into before going to. Cool local vibe joint! Found this iconic bar through a You Tube travel video. This truly was a happenin spot to be. When we arrived on a mid week evening, the place was packed! Everytime I am in NYC, I make sure to stop by Rudy's for a drink. Rudy's offers the best deals for drinking in NYC along with some nice screens to watch sporting events. Let me know if there is another place that offers a beer, a shot of whiskey, and a hot dog for $5 ( all American combo which is my go to order). Keep in mind that it can get pretty packed here particularly on the weekends. Make sure to check outside as there can be open spots to sit as well. Of course, I've heard it pop up for years now, but somehow never went (I initially confused it with SPANKY'S, which ALSO had a little pig statue mascot out in front). There were two awesome friendly bartenders holding down the chaotic fort and one grumpy older busboy guy who gruffly told us he was the not the one to help take orders. So shout-outs to Kevin and Jason and their adorable Cartman-Gomez Addams-Lorax bromance thing. It's always cool to see employees have good relationships with each other because that good morale passes over to their interactions with customers. Kevin and Jason were SUPER personable, friendly, fun to chat with, and a pleasure to be served by. Also offered great commentary as I tried to take non-suggestive pictures with hot dogs. I'm also a sucker for bars with complimentary snacks! I don't even LIKE hot dogs like that, but in a bar with cheap drinks, all of a sudden those free hot dogs SLAPPED. Since this is NYC, I hope they used Sabretts (they tasted pretty good quality, whatever they were, kinda like how you're surprised how good the free pizza is at Alligator Lounge). No other food, so the sight of the hot dogs will have you salivating after a couple of drinks. And when I say cheap drinks I mean it, cause how are $6-$7 drinks possible at a location right off Times Square? Additionally, it seems all the patrons here were completely non-pretentious, happy drinkers, polite and friendly and open to conversation with strangers as well. Cheapest bar you'll find in hell's kitchen, cash only though. they have some house beers that are great, i'm a fan of the red personally. i will say their draft beers aren't the coldest though, and get warm quick. they have $1 hotdogs too, solid quality dogs with a good snap and still warm. service here is impeccable, they're efficient and friendly. it's usually a pretty poppin bar with a lot of people inside, it's extremely dark too and they tend to play sports on the tvs. overall must visit nyc classic that doesn't break the bank. read more

This was the FIRST experience of a "dive bar" in my life. I have been back several times with co-workers after work - pre Covid since then. Rudy's Bar & Grill in Hell's Kitchen is a true NYC dive bar legend, a no-frills institution serving up cheap beer [there is house brand Rudy's Red Ale] and free hot dogs [Hebrew National hot dogs] since 1933. This classic spot is about as divey as it gets, with worn-in booths [may have been leather at one point, but are now mostly just red duct tape], a dimly lit atmosphere, and a clientele that spans generations. Rudy's is famous for its incredibly cheap beer prices [everything comes in pitchers or pints], its free hot dogs with every drink purchase, its unpretentious vibe, and its enduring status as a true NYC original. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking the quintessential dive bar experience in the heart of Manhattan. Outside is a legendary 6 foot red pig mascot that has become a city icon. and a cozy courtyard/"patio" in the back, fully walled-in by neighboring buildings.
