Was @ LuckBoy today (on walnut). First time there. I read good reviews about breakfast. Decided with egg sandwich with sausage on sourdough bread. Was very disappointed. The toasted bread was falling apart. Very little mayonnaise. The sausages were very dry with no flavor. The service was poor. The workers there looked like they were being held hostage. Ordered a turkey burger and got a double cheeseburger with bacon. brought it to the staffers' attention and the fossil handing me my food grunted and mumbled the order number and walked away in frustration. Not sure if failure to self regulate is a product of being emotionally immature or just language insecurities, however the staff at this location is heavily challenged when asked to engage verbally as english is definitely not their first language. waste of time and money for the quality of food and staff. in this economy, not sure that's a winning strategy. read more

Maybe it's because I didn't have the breakfast burrito that everyone keeps talking out. I tried an order of taquitos and cheese fries when I came here. They gave me the cheese fries with unmelted cheese, hmm. I asked them to warm it up and the girl at the front didn't seem to happy about having to move. The taquitos lacked flavor and parts of it were cold. I spent close to $10 and left I satisfied. Went here after going to the rose bowl flea market. Not too crowded and the workers are nice. The ordering process is pretty efficient, you pay and they hand you a ticket to pickup once it is ready. I got their famous breakfast burrito with ham and bacon. Although the portion is great for what you pay for, I felt as if each bite was mostly potato with hints of bacon and ham. Ratios felt a little off, and even after adding the salsa it was at best a 7/10. I was super hungry too and I was kinda under the impression that this place was a little overrated. Definitely need to try more breakfast burritos that are famous, but I have also had better. read more

So my wife and I decided to finally try their famous breakfast burrito. This location is newer and it showed. The interior was nice and clean. It was a Sunday morning around 9am and it was busy, but the line moved swiftly and the food was coming out quick. I ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon, a BLT on sourdough, and a drink. All to go. I was probably more excited than I should be about the fountain drinks because they have cherry fanta which is hard to find and huge guilty pleasure of mine. The BLT was my favorite part of the meal. It was loaded with tons of bacon, the tomatoes were thick cut and the lettuce was crisp. The bread could of been a little thicker or had some more substance, but overall the sandwich was great. The burrito was a bit of a let down. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great either. The size was huge, that's for sure. The bacon and eggs were good. The biggest problem is that it was mostly filled with potatoes. The potatoes weren't crisp at all, just mushy hash browns. The eggs were nearly non existent when compared to the amount of potatoes. The ratio of ingredients being all out of whack made the burrito incredibly underwhelming. I don't think I'd order it again. In all, I'd go back for the BLT. I'd like to try their burger and maybe some of the other sandwiches, but the breakfast burrito didn't live up to the hype in the slightest. read more

Didn't hear about the kitchen fire at the OG location off of Arroyo so finally visited their second location. Parking lot was packed as I'm sure they too knew about the closure of the other location. First thing I noticed was that the offer a spicy sausage bfast burrito which I've never heard about. Ordered my normal sausage bfast burrito which came out 5 mins later. As I started eating the burrito, I quickly realized something was different about it. I'm still scratching my head as to why it tasted different but it definitely wasn't as good as all of the ones I've had at the Arroyo location. Hash browns were definitely under cooked this time around in all 3 of them. Hoping they fix the Arroyo location quickly but after seeing 2 vinyl signs up, I am skeptical. Another thing was this location charges a noticeable amount more than the OG location for them. Total came out to $25 for 3 burritos. May have to start looking for a good bfast burrito place if the OG location doesn't open up soon. read more

The employee working today, 7/4/24 was so rude. I placed my order over the phone at 630 am. I walked over to pickup and the doors were all locked. It was 6:41 at that point, she saw me at the door, did not gesture they were opening in a few minutes and she looked the other way. I left and called and she said they open at 645. The real culprit! All the while I was badmouthing the Lucky Boy Drive-In on Arroyo Pkwy, I learned from my wife just tonight that this Lucky Boy was the source of the terrible pastrami experience of a few nights ago. So my apologies to the Arroyo Pkwy location. She stopped by Arroyo tonight and their pastrami was very fresh and tasty. I wasn't even aware of this location on Walnut until she told me. I was introduced to Lucky Boy eons ago by a friend. I was told that their onion rings were amazing. So one evening we dropped by and I ordered some onion rings. I was totally blown away! The onion rings came in a brown paper bag and were round! Yes round, not squished like some of their competitors, and they were astoundingly delicious. Fast forward to today, a Covid-19 post thanksgiving lunch... After years of absence, I returned and ordered a pastrami sandwich and side of onion rings. I had the order to go, and driving home, my car was absolutely consumed by the overpowering aroma of those onion rings, all screaming Eat Me! When I arrived home, I was elated to discover that the onion rings were still round, and still astoundingly delicious. The pastrami sandwich was good as well. it's quite refreshing to know that in life some things change while others don't. Before my boyfriend and I started dating, he would constantly say he was getting a breakfast burrito after staying up most of the night, and these random comments about burritos had become a thing between us. Months later, I asked him how these breakfast burritos were, and he said he's never had one. ?!?!?! Ok, we had to come get some then, if not for the food then for the meaning behind the burrito. He didn't want to go to the OG Lucky Boy on Arroyo but I did, so we tried that one first. Famous breakfast burrito with bacon for both, with sides of salsa. Man oh man, this was delicious. Packed with hot tater hash and eggs, cheese, and deep-fried bacon (KFC bacon, he says). Staff there were friendly enough. We live closer to the Walnut location and all subsequent visits to Lucky Boy were diverted to this one. The staff here are a whole lot friendlier, and the location looks cleaner than the original. There's a small parking lot in the back and we've never had any issues parking there. It's never really been packed when we go (typically around 9:30-10). I started getting half ham, half bacon for my burrito, and each time they came absolutely packed with filling. This location also seems to heat their burrito up a little more than the other one, and while you have to wait a bit longer to not burn your tongue off, the whole burrito is more gooed together by the cheese. Sure, by itself, the burrito is a bit plain. They provide a variety of hot sauces plus their salsa, and salsa + Tapatio is the way to go for a delicious breakfast with a kick. The only other thing we've ever ordered from Lucky Boy were their chili cheese fries, and they were almost Hat status. The chili was really tasty, and the cheese melted beautifully over everything. Wound up being a new favorite. Lucky Boy always satisfies a craving, and we've been going once a week or so for breakfast, as a treat. read more
