First time visitor and was not disappointed. I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito and it was loaded with bacon. My friend ordered the ham & cheese omelet that was also loaded with ham. Prices were about average, atmosphere was ok. Not really adequate seating for the amount of business they get. Will definitely visit again, next time I'm in the area. read more

Came on a recommendation from a coworker based on asking if they knew of a place that served quality breakfast burritos at lunch time. Ordered a burrito with egg, potato, cheese, bacon. First thing you notice is you definitely get your monies worth from a portion size perspective. I'm a big guy and couldn't finish it. 5 stars in that regard. The side of salsa that at comes with it was pretty good. Had a little bite to it that was cumulative (the more I ate the more I noticed the spice). While I'm no salsa aficionado I would give it 4 stars. I chose to eat in the restaurant and was not impressed with the cleanliness or decor. Floor was clean but almost all the tables were not (including the seats I saw). 1-2 stars. Now to the taste. The eggs and potatoes were good but the bacon tasted like it was left over from a day or two ago. It was hard, chewy and cold. Given how powerful a flavor / texture bacon is that's not the area to skimp ( to be clear they do not skimp in portions - there was plenty of bacon but because of that having it taste old becomes that much more prevalent). The food was hot and the cheese was melted. 2 stars. Generally I try to give restaurants 2 chances to prove that they are really as good as I first thought or to see if given another chance they can improve. There is potential here so i will try one more time and see how that goes. Wish me luck!! read more

It is *possible* things have improved since my experience in early 2005, but it's probable that it has not. (Recently I came across a blog of mine in which I mention this establishment, and what I mention below as to what happened.) I was working on a student film, and our director/producer called in a breakfast order, being informed that Lucky Boy does not make scrambled eggs for breakfast; they even seemed to be puzzled as to what scrambled eggs *were*. One would think this would have been enough of a red flag. As it was, it was close enough to the end of their breakfast time window anyway, so we changed the order to lunch foods. My order of a PLAIN cheeseburger was provided, and severely stressed meaning ONLY Meat, Cheese, and Bun (fries were also ordered). When the meal arrived, it seemed the fries apparently had been cooked in a child's Easy-Bake oven, and the plain cheeseburger was brought with everything anyone could possibly add slathered on it, rendering it 100% inedible. It is my suspicion that the establishment's name "Lucky Boy" is either ironic (e.g., their customers will have no luck by going there, or ordering take-out), or the term refers to their being lucky if anyone has enough of a long or short-term memory issue to ever patronize them again after their initial experience with the non-cooks. read more

Super bummed. I've gotten several "cheat day" burritos here. Huge and great value. Even the omelettes. Today decided to get the egg white omelette. So I get it and it was missing cheese, tomato and bell peppers. So I took it back and the guy behind the register told me I didn't order those items. Just the omelette. I said they're usually added and that he forgot to ask me. I asked if they could be added. He said yes but looked like I was really pissing him off. So I get it back after the cook took care of it. It's still missing tomato but now onion has been added. So I take it back again and there's zero apology from the guy behind the register. He just takes it from me and trashes it. I then ask for a refund. I only write positive reviews. If I do write a bad review I do my best to end positively. So the only positive note is every time I've been helped before they've always been nice. I'm giving 3 stars. Would've given 4, but took off a star because of today's bad customer service. read more

Their breakfast burritos are quite the bad boys. These hefty guys are chockfull of whatever you choose. I went for the Bacon Avocado burrito which had about half an avocado stuffed in there. The food itself wasn't as memorable as the experience of trying to first hide it in my boyfriend's waistband to bring into the UCLA game and then trying to finish the last 20 bites which suddenly tasted like mostly egg. Food is excellent. Today's experience wasn't the greatest. I was waiting in line, one register was open, when another employee opened a second register a woman cut in front of me. Okay, no big deal I can wait. The upsetting part was when the employee that helped me (the one with the original register open) apologized and then told the other employee "hey this guy was first." He obviously saw me get cut off and was trying to rectify the situation. However the woman who opened the second register said "well I called next, it's not my fault who comes up" then she walked around the front counter while cleaning saying "hey can get mad at me, I'm just doing my job" and making comments about how "relax everyone we're serving you" like really? Be respectful and at the very least considerate about the flow of customers. Why be rude and make snide comments? The great service of the younger gentleman was offset by her smugness. Again, great food but man the woman working this morning was quite unpleasant. Hopefully this was a one off experience as I love this place usually read more

Lucky boy on Arroyo is awesome but the walnut location is awful. Terrible service the girl with the braces working the front has a really bad attitude and sure didn't look like she liked her job. Food took forever to come out. And the fry cook in the back touching all the fries as he puts them in boxes and then wiping his hands on his gross apron Yuck. Came here for lunch since this was the closer of the two locations to me. I have never had Lucky Boy before, but have heard great things about this place. Especially their famous breakfast burritos. Unfortunately, I didn't order that my first time here, instead I got a classic California burrito which was satisfying and very big. I'm talking like a Chipotle sized burrito, but all the ingredients are evenly spread out. Beware, this place gets very packed during lunch, but they take your order and make your food very quick. Next time I come back, I am definitely going to try their breakfast burritos. read more

This review is based solely on the "famous " breakfast burrito. I've tried this burrito twice, I was left unsatisfied both occasions. The first time I got the bacon burrito, it was bland and left much to be desired. I got the burrito to go and ate it in the car on my way to work. These burritos are huge but just because you give big portions doesn't make the burrito taste any better. The second time I decided to actually dine in and try to relax and enjoy the burrito. The second time I got the ham burrito, knowing how last time I felt it was lacking I asked them to add avocado which helped a little. I tried going intonitnwith an open mind yet still I was disappointed. The burrito was very inconsistent. First 2 bite was a mouth full of ham and tortilla, the ham was flavorful. the third bite was a mouth full of avacado and the rest of the burrito was egg and some potato. These burritos are huge, I can't eat a whole one in a single sitting. After the first two bites there was no ham to be found. I had to unwrap the burrito and double check to see if there was even any other ham in the burrito, there was a little toward the bottom, but by the time you get to the bottom of the burrito you will be full. The salsa was okay but very watery. The woman at the counter did not know how to use the register. My girlfriend got the spicy sausage egg sandwhich last time and I had a bite, it was pretty good. The second time she got the ham egg sandwhich, she said they forgot to add cheese, otherwise it looked pretty good. I don't see what the hype is about these burritos, next time I'll pass on the burrito and try a burger or something. read more

Hands down such an excellent place for good cheap breakfast!! I came here with a dear friend after the 80s Run at the Rose Bowl. We ordered the breakfast burrito, stuffed with generous portions of eggs, potatoes, and cheese. It was large enough to split between two people or save for later. Service was great and it was easy to find a table. Parking was easy, as there is a private lot. I will definitely come back to try lunch and dinner items, as I think it's worth it. read more

I tried to give the new location the benefit of the doubt but after my third unsuccessful attempt I am done with this place. First time, they were open but they weren't. Since #1 opens early, I thought this one would open early too (They caught on, now this location opens at 6:45am) Second time, I couldn't pay with a card, cash only. Third time, I could pay with a card but not my card because it was a Debit card with a Visa logo but according to the cashier it was a debit card and I was told to use the ATM Machine; owner's rule. What kind of BS is that? The owner needs to know that he pays less for a debit transaction than a credit card transaction. Last I heard we are in the 21st century. One of the worst chili ever. I came here to check out the chili. I got a small chili cheese fries with pastrami on top and AMan order of zucchini. The chili is not original or made fresh. It seems they use eithe the block paste chili or they just have a really bad recipe. There was no flavor and the texture was pasty. The pastrami was dry and had no flavor as well. This was my first time trying this place and I had high expectations based on the Yelp reviews and photos. I was quite disappointed. I got the bacon breakfast burrito and it was almost all potatoes! Mine looked nothing like the Yelp photos from other customers. Mine had very little bacon and was probably about 80-90% potato! I love potatoes, but even that is too much for me in a burrito. All I could taste was potato. The burrito wasn't horrible, but nothing great. read more

Amazing food, you will love everything you get there. The shakes are amazing and you should definitely get that. Their burgers, hotdogs, and corndogs are great for dinner and lunch, but if your going in the morning, you have to get the breakfast burrito. It is the very best you will ever eat. I go a lot, probably more than I should, and I always get the breakfast burrito, almost no matter what the time of day it is. I highly recommend coming here, it isn't the fanciest place in the world, but, and in my opinion that's not a bad thing, it's good to bring kids and you will love the place. read more

I thought I'd give Lucky Boy a go since it just opened recently on Walnut. The interior seating is way too sparse due to bad design, and people are standing around all over the place waiting for their food or looking for a place to sit. Their cheeseburger special which includes fries and a drink (forget asking for bacon or anything else on the special because they won't consider altering the burger- even for an additional charge) costs $8.50... not much of a special if you ask me. On the plus side, the fries were pretty good at first (the grease finally got to me, though) and you can refill your soda as much as you want- but criminy... the burger was awful! The slice of tomato was thicker than the meat and it was way overcooked. Plus, the bun was twice the size of the patty, so the first few bites were all bread, lettuce, and sauce.
