    Gator bites

Excellent food and great atmosphere. I never come to this part of Cary. So, when my friend suggested this place, I was ready to try it. Located in strip mall, it can be easy to overlook. This restaurant is a very popular place. There is plenty of parking and we went on a Saturday night right before the large dinner rush and still found parking. The menu is reminiscent of a New Orleans restaurant. They have everything from Gator bites to jambalaya to gumbo and crawfish etouffee. They even have Beignets for dessert! We started dinner with the gator bites which was well seasoned. For my entree, I ordered the blackened catfish topped with crawfish etouffee which was divine. I did not have room for dessert, but promised our friendly waiter, Mia, that I would definitely return for those. This place is a 10 out of ten, definitely recommend!

I really was looking forward to a great lunch while I waited for my car to be worked on. I have to say I was very disappointed in this meal. Very greasy, overcooked and they need to change their oil in the fryer. Service was great, but food was subpar. Too bad!

A Taste of Louisiana with Alligator

Starting with the positive, our server was very nice and attentive. She was pleasant, got our food orders taken and out in good time, and kept our drinks refilled. The food, on the other hand, left much to be desired. Maybe it was an off day, seeing that we checked the reviews before we went. I started with the She Crab Soup. It lacked flavor and was very underwhelming. It also had an off putting liquid on top when served; I just stirred it before I had a taste. My husband started with the Seafood Gumbo, he also wasn't impressed. We both ordered "A Taste of Louisiana", which came with jambalaya, gumbo, sausage red beans and rice, and a choice of shrimp or alligator - I chose the shrimp and he chose the alligator. The gumbo and jambalaya weren't seasoned very well and didn't have much of a flavor. We agreed that the best thing on the plate was the red beans and rice. *if I chose to go again, that is the one thing from this visit I would order again* The kids ordered the fried shrimp platter - they did enjoy them. I will say the few shrimp I had on my plate were also pretty good.

I would probably go with 3.5 stars. We stopped by on a Tuesday for lunch. It's right next door to the tire store. We got new tires in my car while we ate lunch. It's a nice little restaurant. Seat yourself. The menu was pretty big. I had the Reuben. It was a Turkey Reuben and was quite yummy. The fries were also good. Hubby had half a Muffaletta. Would not recommend this one. We were spoiled at Central Grocery in New Orleans. A Muffaletta should be served on soft bread. This bread was crunchy. The toppings were kind of sparse. Service was good even though it did seem like they were short handed on staff.

We celebrated here after a friends intimate wedding ceremony. We had a reservation and were a few minutes late but they were very accommodating even with us being late. The restaurant was nice but didn't give me the "Cajun Vibe" for lack of a better term. It felt more country bar/restaurant. Overall it was a nice space. Our servers were great and very attentive to our party of 11. The table had various plates including a couple Taste of Louisianas, the Beef Brisket Sandwich, and Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Our starters were the fried pickles, nachos, and the Brussel Sprouts and they were all delicious. The Brussel sprouts had a nice kick to them. My dish was the Salmon Lafayette, Seasoned Rice, and Mixed Vegetables and I also ordered a side of the She Crab soup. The salmon was cooked well but severely under seasoned. It had no flavor at all except the typical salmon taste, same goes for the rice; very under seasoned. The mixed vegetables were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, and the She Crab Soup was immaculate. The corn muffin was to die for. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and most of the table loved their dishes. We will definitely be back to try other menu items!

We ordered gator bites, pickle chips, the she crab soup, the seafood platter and the green tomato poboy. The food was a little salty, and the gator bites were tougher than previous ones I've had before, but the green tomato poboy was incredible. The bread on the poboy was so soft and the green tomatoes were the perfect texture. The seafood platter was delicious, with a generous serving of fried oysters and shrimp. If we come back, we'll probably stick to the platters and poboys.

I had the bourbon berry crush and it was a perfect blend of bourbon and fresh berries and mint and was not overly sweet. We also had the spicy peach margarita and I highly recommend trying this spin on a classic. It was a very refreshing margarita that was freshly made and not overly sweet. The shoestring okra is an appetizer that you have to try. I honestly could have eaten two plates, it is perfectly crispy and a bit spicy with a great aioli dipping sauce. We also had the heirloom tomatoes with goat cheese and the pork rinds and pimento cheese. They were all devoured and enjoyed by all. I ordered the cornmeal crusted catfish with grits and blistered okra. I honestly can't remember the last time I enjoyed a meal so much. The catfish and the grits paired together perfectly. We also had jambalaya and pork schnitzel. I can't wait to return. The waitress was very knowledgeable and the ambiance was great for a girl's night. They even brought a cake out for the birthday we were celebrating.

I got so much seafood for my seafood boil to take home and I didn't break bank. The seafood was fresh and LIVE! Definitely worth it. While I was there O picked up lunch too since I was making the seafood boil for dinner. They fry or steamed your fresh fish there! Let me tell you, it was worth it. The combo meals are where you want to go. You get a bit of everything. Crab cakes were STUFFED with crab rather than just breading! The fried okra was crispy, crunchy. The calamari was crispy and tender! Not chewy at all! The hush puppies were seasoned! And didn't taste like just fried dough, the plantains were sweet and tender. Finally the fish! Buttery, flakey, juicy, tender, BUT with a CRISPY light breading! So much better than other places where they over bread their food and all you get is breading! We sat outside this day, as the weather was mild and there wasn't any available seats inside. We ordered a fried combo and a grilled combo. TrySeafood does a lot of things right. Portion size was fairly generous. We especially love the fact they serve cleaned jumbo shrimp. Food was cooked well, shrimp was tender as was scallops. The broccoli was not tender crisp nor mushy. The potatoes and corn were delicious. While service was friendly, it was a bit slow. Also, I'm not an Old Bay fan. The grilled shrimp were seasoned with Old Bay. While the fish was crispy, I prefer a cornmeal dredge to a flour dredge. Finally, (and this could have been a me thing) the tip percentage on the screen doesn't align with the math. I intended to tip 15% - which is standard especially considering slow service. That should have been approx $8 and when I got home I realized it was approximately $16. You're not given a printed receipt and if you're in a rush and going through the process quickly it's easy to miss. Again I may have missed something, but I'm pretty sure I selected the %15 option. Additionally, I've seen other restaurants that have intentionally include this practice. Would I go again, sure. I'd request a different seasoning blend or a light seasoning and check that math!
