We have ordered takeout from Lucky Lotus at least 22 times, the last two times being the worst. We will never order food from them again, and we SO WANTED to support them. Our last order EVER, we chose a 5:10 pickup time so we could pick up the food at 5:10!!! We received a notification at 4:50 that our food was ready for pickup? 20 minutes early and 10 minutes before the restaurant even opens! At 5:10, of course the food was cold. The person actually asked if we had a microwave, so we could go home and reheat the food we ordered. We don't have a microwave, and how crazy is this question? They reheated the soup, while the VEGAN egg rolls became cold. That was pointed out, so they made fresh vegan egg rolls. The person came and took the cold vegan egg rolls out of the bag and the sauce. I'm sure the staff enjoyed them. We were sent home with hot egg rolls, No SAUCE and neither one of us has eaten pork for 20 and 30 years, guess what. They replaced our cold vegan egg rolls with PORK egg rolls. I actually had a dead animal in my mouth, it was horrific. I'm traumatized. We called to tell them how awful our experience was, and they said they would refund us, guess what...they didn't. We can make our own soup and mango sticky rice. We will never eat from here again. read more

I've only done take out twice during this COVID-19 crisis, so this review is based on that. Takeout process is very simple! I ordered online, they texted me when it was ready, and I picked up in store. In between the two orders, we had the vegan egg rolls, sesame balls, lotus blossoms, heavenly beef, pad Thai with chicken, chicken laap, and sweet sticky rice. We weren't fans of the sesame balls... They had a little burnt taste. The first batch of lotus blossoms also had that taste, so I think they've fixed that problem as it wasn't an issue the second time around. Lotus blossoms are large cookies with sesame seeds. The Laap and pad Thai portions were MASSIVE! I made 3 meals out of my pad Thai alone. My husband devoured his laap and said it was delicious with very fresh and crisp ingredients. The lettuce way not only tasty, but beautiful! I could live on these egg rolls and sauce. They are my favorite style and have all the right consistency. Crispy and flavorful. The Heavenly beef was much better than I had expected and absolutely fantastic. This is definitely our new to go when we want some quick and tasty Asian food. This will tell you how good it is... We ordered it twice within the last two weeks!! They "lost" my take out order after multiple confirmations with different employees after waiting 30+ minutes I was finally told that the order couldn't be found. They made me check out and pay again. Now I'll be waiting another 30 minutes. Making over an hour for mediocre food. I'll have to charge a file back later for the original purchase. Place is pretty dirty. I don't think they have mopped that place in a week. Update: apparently they aren't capable of keeping to their quoted time even after their screw up. Lucky Lotus (old Krunkwich location) on Ingersoll by Zanzibar. Upon entry, it's an order from the counter-style place. Service was friendly and cheerful. Menu was confusing, they were sold out of a lot of things so it was 0/2 trying to begin our order but we got it figured out. Appetizer: Lao Links (sausage with a tomato jam sauce) and sticky rice. I liked it, my dining partner not so much. But I grew up eating Asian sausages (no pun intended ) so it's a flavor I am used to. Pho beef - bland and we didn't get our side of bean sprouts, limes, cilantro and/or peppers so that was disappointing. I thought maybe they just didn't do it that way but I saw another table had some so ours was just missed. It was too late to speak up as we were already more than halfway done with our meals. And I would've added spices myself but it's a shared sauce table by the soda fountain and the only two sriracha bottles were floating around at other tables. Not a fan of the shared sauce bottles or at the very least put more bottles out. We shared 1 hot sauce bottle amongst 3 tables with some awkwardness in between. Drunken noodles - good flavor, veggies cooked just right, no complaints. Love me some chewy rice noodles! Serving size was plentiful. Lucky Curry Fish - way too many bamboo shoots, but sauce and flavor were good, and I loved the peas added in. Served with rice. Curry wasn't overwhelming, we liked this dish. Drinks: thai tea and iced coffee were both tasty. Not at all a fan of the shared counter space for soft drinks, sauces, utensils, etc. When paying, the iPad auto pops up with gratuity options. After sitting down it felt like half service, half self-service cafeteria. Us and the tables to either side of us were a bit confused as well. Small gem serving southeast Asian food. They do provide the typical Thai dishes, all of which are good, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you skipped the Lao cuisine. The flavor of the drunken noodles is unusual in this place. The red curry and rice wrap is my favorite item since it combines more flavorful, fresher ingredients. Last but not least, the spice wrap (which we got on our second visit) was worthwhile. My wife and I shared a drunken noodle, eggrolls and the sesame balls. The beef drunken noodle was delicious and we got it spicy level two and it was just perfect. Beware if you're uncoordinated with chopsticks, the noodles are very slippery. The eggrolls were very good and the dipping sauce was top-notch. The only minor complaint was that the sesame balls weren't as good as the ones from Pho All Seasons in East Des Moines. I love noodles so I got the non-instant noodles with chicken (Handmade noodles from Ramen Club DSM stir fried with Bok Choy, carrots, onions, and bean sprouts in a hot wok with sweet and savory sauce. Topped with scallions, cilantro and fried shallots). The dish was everything I wanted: Savory, had a touch of tartness and sweetness and the noodles weren't too chewy and stood up to the sauce and chicken. I got it mild but would be open to trying it again with a touch of heat (but not too much because I'm a wuss for spicy food). I was super curious about the fried tofu because I had read rave reviews about it in a foodie group on Facebook that I frequent so I tried it, too. The tofu was crispy and had the chew and firmness of a chicken nugget but the sauce it comes with and the fried basil leaves were amazzzing. I have craved it regularly ever since trying it. I HIGHLY recommend them. I also got the eggrolls because I love eggrolls and they were definitely among some of the best I've tried. I would get them again and again. I also ordered the Darla Palmer because I love Arnold Palmer and this version has green tea. It was refreshing but a little sweeter than I like. I added water and got 2 drinks out of it so it was a good value. Right now (May 2021) they are still doing take out only but are planning to open the dining room soon. This review is long overdue! I've been eating their food at least once a week the last couple months. What I have ate there: vegan egg rolls drunken noodles tofu laap salad vegan pho bing bing wrap with curried potatoes crispy rice wraps and last but not least sweet rice with mango. The Sweet Rice with Mango is delicious!!! Due to recent events, I've only been able to get take out, but the restaurant has online ordering and curbside and have been very polite! What a fun local restaurant! The atmosphere is fun and great for just a few people or bigger parties. The food is delicious and fresh and they have some cool seasonal drinks. This is a hip and funky new joint on Ingersoll! The asian food they prepare is unique and yet quite delicious! The staff are helpful and ridiculously friendly to boot! I have been twice and I tried the Bing Bing Wrap's and Spring rolls. The Bing Bing Wrap's are something that you dream about and drive you to make a second visit really close to the first! Yummy! I have heard a lot of friends talking about Lucky Lotus so I decided to give them a try tonight. I ordered their food for delivery thru Postmates and it was SOOO GOOD! The egg rolls and crab Rangoon were stuffed and crispy - not soggy, even after delivery. My bf and I both love and order fried rice a lot and theirs was some of the best I've had. Pad thai was great but they are LEGIT true to their spice levels - a 3/4 is packing heat, its not "Iowa hot" (aka weak sauce). I also ordered their drunken noodles and pho. I would have preferred a more saucy noodle. Pho was good for take out, make sure to ask for chili oil if you like it, I forgot and think it would have been better with it. I went on a Thursday around 5:45 with my 10 month old and 3 year old. Food was outstanding - my three year old ate a little bit of everything. 4 or so high chairs and plenty of tables around the back to tuck away your kids at. Lots of fun decor to add to the ambiance. Crab rangoons, egg rolls, and shrimp pad thai were all great choices. Great selection of unique bottled beer choices to add to the awesome food. Parking was the only challenge but it was easy finishing a spot around 28th and walking to it even with kids. Definitely would recommend for something unique and diffferent. read more

Oooh y'all I dont know about this place, the decor is cute I really like the set up and the staff here are very nice but the food left me feeling like it was a super americanized Thai food for people who have never had Thai food. Sticky rice and beef jerky, can't really mess that up, the fried rice my daughter hated it and said it taste burnt, I have to agree it had no favor except for the burnt taste. My drunken noodles had be wondering, where are my noodles, they were barely there, the spicy level was on point with a level 4 but the tiny shrimp and having more vegetables than noodles made me sad. This is a great new spot for the Ingersoll restaurant strip! We've had a hard time finding good Thai food in Des Moines, but this place satisfied! And I'm not sure I had ever tried Lao food, so I was excited to try a new cuisine. The Nam Khao lettuce wraps were awesome. The mix of textures and flavors were great, but they used romaine for the lettuce, which made it a little harder to eat as a wrap (too long and skinny to be a good food cup). It was super spicy so keep that in mind if you don't like spice. The pad see ew was not our favorite style, but was still good. We got spice level 4 because we didn't know what the different levels meant, and it was a little spicier than I would prefer, but we'll hopefully remember that for next time. The summer rolls were great. They are huge and could be a meal on their own! And the sesame balls for dessert were perfect - crispy and a little oily on the outside and soft and yummy on the inside. I was excited to try Lucky Lotus just a couple blocks away from my office. I ordered the Pad See Ew and my coworker got the Beef Pho and Spring Rolls. Everything was pretty good, but nothing was amazing. The Pad See Ew was the best I've had in Iowa (where I imagine many of the ingredients aren't as readily available as places I've eaten thai/asian food elsewhere) but not the best I've had in general. I do think the prices were a *liiittle* high though for the area. I would like to get an egg roll or a spring roll with my meal without paying an additional $5 or $4 for a drink. It would be great if they had some kind of "make it a meal" option where you could add a drink and a single egg/spring/summer roll or a cookie or something (also currently listed at $5) for a discounted total with the purchase of an entree. I would try it again, but probably pick something else. Separately, I loved the vibe and the aesthetic. read more

Tried the crab Rangoon. Very good. Super hot.....fresh out of the fryer. The sticky rice reminded me of the sticky rice my friend makes. My dinning companion raved about the pancake dish she had. Freaking LOVE this Ingersoll gem. Not only is it the absolute cutest neon beauty on the block, it's warm and inviting atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for the delicious food they serve. The Chicken Pad Thai gets a high five from me and the sesame ball treats were Y-U-M. The staff was also super sweet and stellar. I really enjoyed getting to learn more about the history of the place and how they brought this vision to life. They also have some great swag and reusable totes! A true family business with excellent energy. Getting together with a couple of friends, a date or a solo treat-yo-self are all great excuses to check this place out! read more

Having just moved from the San Francisco Bay area, finding Lucky Lotus was a breath of fresh air in Des Moines. Everything we've ordered has been superb; fresh and flavorful. The Lucky Tofu was crispy and seasoned to perfection. The Non-Ramen noodles were amazing and spice level 1 cleared our sinuses. And the crab Rangoon... Is the best we've ever had.
