They appear to be short on staff at times. Today I called at 3:30 to meat dept and inquired about fresh crab. Verified when it came in and price. I' bought some there recently at a good price and it was fresh. When I got there at 5 PM I was told they didn't have crab today ... at all. Very disappointed in the earlier misinformation. Just glad the folks I invited over for crab Louie couldn't make it. Other thoughts... organic veggies supply limited - probably not enough demand. This lucky location is a bit outdated compared to their other stores, but it still provides the necessary staples to the small community of Marina. Because this is a less trafficked store, items sometimes sit on the shelves a bit longer, which is a good thing and a bad thing. It's bad if you're looking for the most fresh fish or meat products but good if you're hoping to score a deal on a store manager special which usually happens when items are close to their expiration date and the store manager will mark them down below their actual product cost. I've gotten lucky and purchased products like oat milk for $.50 or fresh salsa and guacamole for a whopping five cents. It's hard to say no to those prices when you see them! read more

This location is getting worse everyday. I have been shopping at this location since it was Albertsons. I thought it was getting better around Christmas when there was so many employees to help. We got great fresh meat, fruit, veggies, etc. then. In less than a month they have just gone down hill. Fortunately the employees that are there are super helpful, IF you can find one. I went shopping yesterday and things were ok. Today I went back to the deli to get more sliced turkey, yesterday I asked the lady at the counter for 3/4 pound and she gave me 5 slices. It's not Whole Foods, or Gelsons, or Trader Joe's. It is a Lucky's Market. A good old fashioned middle of the road grocery store for working class folks like me! I have been shopping at this location since moving to Monterey County out of convenience. It is not necessarily my favorite grocery store of all times, but, it is sufficient enough for me to visit almost daily and or as needed. The prices are reasonable and the store is reasonably organized. I have always found what I needed and spent what I wanted on my budget. The ailses are clean and the staff respectful. I base my opinion also from the fact I have shopped at other Lucky's in the area and was disappointed. The Lucky's in Pacifice Grove, wow, the staff here was nearly always seriouosly obviously disgruntled. I shopped here occasionally as it is right outside my Pilates studio, which is no longer in session due to COVID, and also I have been to the Lucky's in Carmel, nice store, but not quite as good as favorite spot. The reason for 5 stars has to do with the pre-packaged salmon meals I purchase at the Marina Lucky's for $6.99. It is such a deal for a fantastic meal. The salmon is not local, it is Atlantic Salmon, but, it is so good! Nice big chunks of veggies clearly visible through the bag. I purchased this same meal at the Lucky's in Sand City, and the salmon was buried under small, miniscule sized cubes of squash. The salmon was decent, but veggies are not expensive, come on! Give it to me!! I just can't tell you how much I love these prepackaged meals. 24 minutes at 450 degrees in the oven and done. In a hurry you can microwave it, but I choose the oven. Luckys is one of my favorite stores to go to for the one off items. They are cinnamon rolls made fresh by the bakery are delicious, I love their grab and go foods, and they have a great alcohol selection. However, the lines are always long, there is never a human at self check out and the employees seems so stressed. read more

I'm a loyal customer but please don't buy seafood from here. 9/10 times it's turned bad, even if cooked the night bought. Also be careful with produce, a lot is also not fresh. I had the worst experience here. I had a person follow me around. I politely asked for the code to use the restroom and the person didn't even look at me, gave me the wrong code. I bought stuff and was drinking my yo outside and a worker came out and asked," if I paid for it." luckily I kept my receipt since I had already been followed. If you want to experience racism during checkout this Lucky store does exactly that. The large Mexican cashier with the tattoos on his arms treated all the Caucasian customers rudely. No greetings no smile just a bad attitude. When I allowed a older gentleman with 1 item to go in front of me the cashier didn't like it at all. He uttered something under his breath. Also I went to the Deli today December 12th and the ladies were all in a bad mood. I believe that they don't like having a woman named Lupe working with them in that department because they don't seem to treat her well. Today I also got the Santa Maria Tri-tip lunch and unfortunately the potatoes they used weren't good. The potatoes are very hard It was much better the other day when they had pasta and brussel sprouts with the meat. Management needs to do something about the bad attitude of some of these employees. Okay, I'm in customer service, and I always try to write GOOD reviews instead of bad ones. Because more often people are more eager to write about a negative experience than a good one. But last night was the straw that broke the camel's back. Every single time I am in that store, usually at night after work, I get the WORST customer service I have ever had. There are 3 employees who all act the exact same way: First I get side-eyed, just for walking around the store. I never get a smile and a hello, I just get dirty looks. Then when it's time to check out, again no greeting, and when I try to say "hello, how are you" I get mumbles in return or completely ignored. I came the other day and one was showing another some video on her phone and I was completely ignored until they were finished. I always get the feeling that I am putting them out, or making their lives' hell. That's how they act anyway. I always try to greet people and if they seem like they're having a bad day I'll make a joke or make some other small talk. Doesn't work on these women. This isn't one bad experience either. It's every. single. time. that I'm in that store. I should not have to be the one greeting THEM. They should be greeting ME. They don't even do the bare minimum. They act totally miserable. And from other reviews on here, I'm not the only one they do this to. One of the women is a tall-ish, 20-something Hispanic woman. Another is a very short, older, thin hispanic woman. And the last one has a gray/black bob cut. They are usually working at night, it appears, and they are the ones I usually deal with and get the worst service from. But they are not the only ones. Nobody else in that store greets and says hello. They also just give dirty looks. Maybe they all need to take a field trip to Andronico's in Monterey. At that store EVERY SINGLE WORKER greets EVERYONE, even if they've already been greeted. They all have a smile on their face. Listen, you don't have to like your job, or like me or any other customer. You don't have to be happy. But you're in customer service, so you better plaster a smile on your face and at least GREET your customers. Then once you're off the clock, you can go back to frowning and hating everyone openly. That's the job ladies, do it right, or find another one! It's obvious that management at the Marina Lucky don't care, or act the same way, causing the employees to follow suit. I've been trying to find a store with most of the items that I usually shop for. I've been to other Lucky stores in the area and I was not impressed. This store is clean, cashier and bagger were very friendly and helpful. I was able to find a lot of gluten free items including some delicious honey graham cookies. Let's face it, no one goes on Yelp to decide what grocery store to shop at. This is just me finally venting about the bad experiences from this place knowing nothing is going to change. If you enjoy long lines, this place is for you! There is rarely ever more than one check out lane open. Management expects everyone to use the self-checkout, which is normally ok I guess except when you have alcohol. The manager was overseeing the self-checkout lines when I showed up. He yelled at me to go stand in line with my beer knowing there were ten people lined up at the one open register and chose to do nothing about it. Another time I got yelled at by a cashier who refused to handle a package of meat that I had placed on the conveyer. She mumbled about getting sick and it being disgusting. How is that my fault? And perhaps this isn't the job for you. During the height of the Covid-19 restrictions, the manager decided to put all the Mother's Day flower arrangements near the front door. As much as I tried to do my part to remain socially distanced, it was impossible due to the fact that people still needed to enter the store. There was literally no where to go. Not the brightest of decisions. At the same time, they had begun restricting reusable bags and forced everyone to purchase bags despite other locations understanding their situation and offering them at no charge. It's clear management is the issue and while the store is clean and welcoming, the employees are miserable, often rude and understaffed. I've been coming to this store for the last 10 years because I live in Marina, and I mainly come in for things that I didn't get when I do the bulk of my grocery shopping elsewhere. Their employees are not welcoming but a specific employee named Maria ( cashier and Self-checkout warden) is just plain rude. She should not have a customer service job, I have kept to myself about the other times she just plainly ignores the blinking light of the self- checkout because she is chit-chatting with someone or just trying to make herself look busy. No no no. I do my very best not to enter this store. Something is seriously wrong. I really do not enjoy writing bad reviews however, when it comes to food safety something must be done. I had noticed several bloated and discolored meats and green bacon on display with an employee feet from them not removing the packages. Most of the time, the customer service is great, but there is always the same clerk who is extremely rude and uncaring of how she treats people. Today at self check out, I was using my own bags and the attendant log in screen came on. This clerk comes over and instead of just logging in so that I can get on with my shopping, she goes and "demonstrates" how it's supposed to be done. Instead of asking for permission if she could grab my bags or even asked if I actually needed help, she spoke to me in a very rude and condescending manner. When I tried to explain to her that regardless of how it was supposed to be done, she INSISTED that I was using the self check out incorrectly. She does all of this, even after I said I don't have time for her explanation because regardless of how she demonstrated how it was supposed to be done, she still had to log into the system. She does all this, even after I said I don't have time for this and was still insisting on explaining that what I had done was wrong. Her coworkers were just looking in from the other lane and basically ignoring the whole situation and as I was leaving, all three of them were looking in my direction and talking about in an unkind manner. I understand times are tough right now, but it was NOT necesary for the unkindness and poor customer service. If there were other options in the area where I knew they'd have everything I needed, I would not have come here. This was also not the first time that this clerk, who may be a manager of some sort, was so rude. Another time I was there at the check out stand where someone was ringing me up, he needed assistance and because that rude clerk looks like they are in management and he must have rang the bell and paiged her like 5 times and she ignorned him, even though she was less than 5 feet away. She was JUST TALKING to someone else that worked there that was NOT work related instead of HELPING the customer and the person at the register. Seriously, I'm over this place. Stopped in for chicken tenders and a vegetable tray for dinner on the way home. Will never be back. Vegetable tray was your standard tray, a little expensive but good. We got the chicken tenders straight from the deli case. Lady helping us was nice and gave us the amount we requested. The tenders were expensive. We drove away headed home and started to eat them. Wow. They were SO dry!!! All of them! Had to dip them in the ranch just to get them down. And so glad we had vegetables and water to help too. I thought they had timers to not let them overcook and didn't allow them to sit under the lamp that long. But looks like they did because those had to be the driest chicken tenders I have ever had. I'm not sure why everybody thinks the staff at Lucky is so rude, that's not my experience. This is a basic grocery store and the produce is so-so- just be on ther lookout for old/ on the edge fruit and veggies. If you buy these older prodicr items, they'll go bad before you eat them, if you're not quick about it. Prices are pretty good for many items, sometimes even cheaper than the Grocery Outlet down the road (and waaaaay cheaper than the Safeway in Monterey on Fremont.) My only real complaint is the self checkout is really sensitive and persnickity and that can add a lot of time to your experience. read more

I do most of my grocery shopping here as well and always have a relatively positive experience, but I wanted to come on and write a review for the bakery. I have gotten customized cakes there before, but my daugther's cake this year was BEAUTIFUL! (I added the Stitch figure and pictures) I gave them a vague image of a Hawaiin themed cake and some ideas that I had and they blew it out of the water. The cake was amazing looking (and tasting) and my daughter LOVED it. For only $30 I was thoroughly impressed. Five stars! read more

Never mind, at the deli I waited with another client for 10+minutes while the lone attendant talked and talked on the phone. I walked away. Picked up a roasted rotisserie chicken and it was tasteless, TENDER but tasteless in oily water. It was supposed to be herb and garlic but it was just water and tasteless. Today was the last straw. Generally, I let things go, but three times I have had issues with this store. First time, it was expired product (3 months past expiration date) and I put the expired products in an area so it could easily be removed so no customers would purchase it and let the manager know. That was NOT appreciated. Next time, I was using the self checkout. It said something had been removed from the tray (it hadn't). Was told it was because I had too many items and I need to read the sign. My fault, admittedly. But the system didn't say "over limit " and she could have been kinder. And now today. The self checkout said there was a weight problem. No one was in any lines and all of the staff were just having a nice chat, completely ignoring me. I was waving my arms, asking for help. "Excuse me, can someone please help me?" No one even looked at me. One staff member walked past me but wouldn't look at me. Again, waived my arms. The machine stopped blinking. Must have fixed itself? I finished my transaction and bagged my groceries. On the way out, I stopped and interrupted the 4 of them, and asked, "did you see me?" They said yes. How can we help? I was shopping with my deaf 73 year old mother a while back-She used self check to pay for her cat litter then proceeded to head outside to wait for me- As I am loading my groceries onto the belt I look and see a clerk chasing her out of the store yelling at her to stop, she finally turns around then I hear The clerk demand she go back in and pay for her item! Mom produces a receipt, for her $2.16 10lb bag of cat litter. Apparently someone else ditched a $10 purchase on the same check stand. I didn't like the store before- I hate it now. Staff is incompetent AND rude- merchandise is over priced- DON'T shop here. I am posting this review again because my mother is not Internet savvy, I was with her that day but neglected to mention it in my original review. Obviously whoever flagged it works at the store.
