Lucky Penny's new outpost is in Los Olivos and just opened for business! Everyone is familiar with their epic pizzas at the SB Funk Zone location but I am soooo excited that Los Olivos now has a its FIRST legit informal (not in hotel) breakfast spot that serves more than pastries! I am a low carb guy and their Farmhouse Egg Tartine is great (you can even get it without the grilled sourdough). Sherry Villanueva hits another home run with the help of her daughter Katie and GM Morgan! Did I mention Lucky Penny is dog friendly?

Great pizza and the frose was great as well. Not a bad wait and everyone was very friendly. Highly recommend!

We went for lunch to try out a couple things. We were seated immediately and offered menus. We ordered a seared ahi salad, calamari, bolognese, and mushroom pizza. The ahi salad was delicious. The vinaigrette was delicious and refreshing. The ahi was seared just right. The calamari was flavorful and crispy. It also came with some shrimps which was a nice surprise. The bolognese was nice and hearty. The pizza had the perfect crust thickness and tasted even better when I baked it for dinner later in the day. Overall, we enjoyed everything we tried and would like to come back on the next visit.

However, we wanted to enjoy a local favorite like Leonardo's tucked in the Nielsen's Shopping Center off the main drag. The Involtini di Melanzane, eggplant creatively stuffed with angel hair pasta topped with a smoke scamora marinara sauce was such a pleasant surprise. I expected the angel hair on the side but actually stuffing it in the eggplant, gave it such a depth of flavor, it made me a fan of angel hair. The Salsiccie, oven roasted sausage that comes with 3 was a bit salty for me since it's just over cannellini beans. Having some pasta on the side may cut down on the saltiness.

We walked in early, asked to sit at the bar, and our reservation was honored. The restaurant was bustling but service did not feel rushed or hurried. We were lucky to dine at the bar; Mr. Maciel took truly excellent care of us the whole evening, remembering every request and taking care of every detail for our dining experience. His wine recommendations were also spot on. We decided to focus on three different pastas and were not disappointed. Highly recommended. My absolute favorite was the Wild Mushroom Pappardelle but honestly, every pasta was delicious. Portions were generous and leftovers were promptly boxed up to take home. Folks clearly schedule special dinners here, warranting dressing up, but casual diners such as ourselves also felt comfortable. I'd recommend dining at the bar for exceptional service and a front-line seat to all the action.

We were greeted warmly & seated by our waitress. After being served water, we ordered the green salad with watermelon, burrata cheese, dressing & balsamic glaze to share. It was a generous serving and tasted so light & fresh. I enjoyed the delicious lasagna while my friend raved about her short rib ravioli. When we arrived, several tables were occupied but when we left at 7:15 pm, the patio was full. Although our waitress was the only one serving due to a staff shortage, she remained friendly yet efficient while providing us with a relaxing dining experience. I look forward to returning with my husband & enjoying another delicious meal on Toscana's patio.

While staying in Pismo with family, they wanted to take us to their favorite Italian restaurant and…read morewe chose to have dinner in the Cucina...they have another location right next door, which isn't as "fancy" as their sit down place. Tables covered with white linen as well as linen napkins, stepping up the ambiance. Our server, Maricella, was great, friendly, and very attentive. We started with their Caesar salad, which is made with fresh, largely torn romaine lettuce and covered with both grated and shaved parmesan cheese. There were a few crutons scattered and we opted to add anchovies to our salad. I also asked for extra dressing because typically salads don't come with much and I'm a dressing gal! Ok, so the salad itself was great and fresh and the anchovies were good and not greasy or fishy tasting. The dressing was an issue and I really didn't care for it. Wife said it was "ok" but we've had way better dressing elsewhere. She chose the Ravioli di Zucca, which was a butternut squash filled ravioli with a sage and parmesan cheese sauce. I thought it was a bit sweet but she liked it. I had the Linguine Vongole, which came with a housemade pasta that was more like a thick spaghetti noodle as opposed to the typical flat linguine noodle. The bowl was full of clams; found some to be a bit tough and overall I think the sauce could use a ton more lemon flavor! It was good but family had ordered the Nonna's Meatballs and that's where I would go! Something with their incredible marinara sauce because it is the bomb! Such a great balance of tang and sweet and just good flavor. I also want to talk about the bread and dip they serve at the beginning of the meal...oh my gosh! The bread is sliced super thin with a soft inside and that wonderful tuggy outter crust. The dip is a garlic (lots of it!) and olive oil mix that you can spread on the bread...ok, we ate a lot of this! Daughter also ordered the brussels sprouts, which were roasted to perfection and topped with pecans, goat cheese, and a honey Dijon vinaigrette. These were some of the best sprouts I've had! We shared the Spumoni for dessert, which was good and different! There was a layer of cake along with layers of chocolate, pistachio, and vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of the cherry sauce and sprinkle of mini chocolate chips. The dish is good and needs much more of that cherry sauce! Overall a good meal and next time we doing the Club instead...much less fancy and a smaller menu of offerings.

The ambiance outside was gorgeous. Here's what we ordered: Cesar Salad - good just ask for the dressing on the side as it was overdressed. Mozzarella sticks - didn't have the cheese pull I was expecting, I did appreciate that it wasn't as salty as most places, however, it was more breaded than cheese. Penne with sausage and fungi - good! To be honest it was even better tasting as leftovers, as the flavor was soaked in by the pasta. Sole fish with lemon sauce - came with pasta, my husband said it was exactly, if not more, what he wanted! He would order this again. Bread - free for first serving, charge after. It was definitely a bit on the harder side. Overall, everything was pretty okay. It wasn't memorable or bursting with flavor. It was simple and clean and that can definitely be what someone is looking for in Italian food!
