Butter

This place is a nice warm cozy Italian restaurant on mission drive right across other popular destinations in Solvang. There's street parking along the restaurant and a parking lot behind the restaurant. We went late on Thursday night so parking wasn't an issue, neither was getting a table. There's nice patio seating, for a romantic vibe while spots inside provide a much quieter, private, and romantic option. To start off, the service was disappointing and did not live up to the initial promise of the place. The place seemed understaff as the server was running across the restaurant. The bread basket tasted like microwaved bread and not fresh. After we requested butter, we got the cubes, about 10 mins later(on asking twice). We ordered the Penne funghi salsiccia, and it was really good, the sausage tasted great and the portions were generous. However again the service was a downside, and while we wanted to order another dish, but the server never even came to check on us and by then we decided to leave anyways. Also although I don't drink, the wine selection seemed extensive.

We were excited to come here for the solvang restaurant week but was only told when we got there that the deal was only from mondays to thursdays which was very disappointing since it was NOT mentioned anywhere online on their website or any other website that mentioned their restaurant week deals... However, it was convenient for us since we were staying at the hamlet inn right across the street and were craving Italian. We got the penne bolognese and the shrimp linguini (they were kind enough to let us make substitutions from the clams since I'm allergic to them) and they were fine... what's interesting is that my garlic wine wine linguini didn't taste very garlicky at all... the penne bolognese wasn't anything special either... The ambiance was nice with both indoor and outdoor seating with heaters. Would recommend this restaurant if you're ever in solvang but wish they were more upfront about their deals for restaurant week BEFORE we got there so it left a bad taste in my mouth...

Risotto Primavera

My wife and I decided to try Osteria Grappolo on our final night in Solvang. We walked in and got seated right away, within just 5 minutes of waiting on a weekday dinner time. My wife ordered the Risotto Primavera and I ended up going with the Linguine al Pesce. Both items were so delicious! I personally really enjoyed the Linguine al Pesce (clams) because it was right up my alley and I usually order this when it comes it comes to Italian restaurants. They did not disappoint! The place is quite spacious and has a dim lit atmosphere, which I personally like! The servers were attentive and helped us out with any questions we had! If I am ever in town, this will be a spot I will be returning back to!

Pesto..... delicious!

Osteria Grappolo is a simple place with a couple of nice patios. The staff was very welcoming and very friendly when I stopped in with my sister for lunch. They have olive oil and balsamic on the tables to dip your bread. The bread itself isn't great, just ordinary bread. The food was excellent. My pesto pasta was delicious! My sister loved her meatball panini. I would stop in again.

Pretty solid pasta and one of our favorite spots that we tried in Solvang! Started off with complimentary bread and olive oil/vinegar. Yum!! I got the penne funghi pasta which had sausage and mushroom with a tomato cream sauce. It was so delicious and the portions were pretty big! My friends got the carbonara which honestly tasted like alfredo, and the clam pasta with a white wine sauce which was delicious. They added an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 6. If you're in Solvang, I would check this spot out!

The line to get in the restaurant was long but moved very quickly. The server was very nice and attentive. We had the carpaccio as our appetizer and it was AMAZING! I had the penne bolognese and my friend had the lasagna. We were both very happy with our choices. We sat outside on a pretty chilly night but the heater kept us warm enough. It was a great dining experience.

Lasagna with meat sauce

If you like a meaty lasagna, you'll love it here. I ordered the lasagna. On my first bite, I noticed something dense, and hard, so I spit it out and saw that it was just a hardened overcooked bottom layer. The staff was great and got right on making a fresh new one. This is a meaty lasagna. It's served in a really tasty sauce on the plate. The pasta was cooked well (the 2nd time). The service was ok and seemed nice. It was a cold night and the door was left open. I asked staff to close the door and they offered a floor heater. The closed-door helped, but they forgot to "turn on" the heater. The ambiance was cute, we got seated in the wine room.

Sole with lemon caper sauce and pasta

When in Solvang this restaurant was right in the heart of the tourist part of town. Food was served promptly, pasta perfectly al dente, our waiter was simply fantastic! Great suggestions. Seasonal pumpkin ravioli with a walnut cream sauce was a good meal. Someone in our party had scallops and risotto that was perfectly cooked, great sear on the scallops and creamy risotto. We also ordered the sole dish that was a light flakey fish in a lemon caper sauce. Scottish salmon was served with potatoes, veggies and spinach sauté. The portions were plenty. Our Bday celebration was met with a Happy Birthday serenade and panna cotta. We also tried the cannoli which is made in house , 3 small cannoli in an order. We enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying a great meal in Solvang.

Back in solvang for the end of the year. Overcrowded must I say. Coming to this Italian restaurant as my mood was gravitating to. I saw pictures of different pasta that looked good. When it arrived, I felt like it wasn't a lot for $25. I mean, I cook pasta easily at my own home and put marinara on it and you know what?, it taste the same. The other dish ordered was a linguini with clams and calamari. It smelled weird but it tasted okay. Was it amazing and special? Succulent and delicious? Nope. It was okay. The food quality was decent but the taste and texture was okay. It was a decent ambiance inside and the service was not bad. I ordered a salad too that was pretty good. Better than the pasta dish for sure. The bread? They give you the first for free, wanna refill? They charge you. Additionally a $2.00 is added for using a credit card plus tax and gratuity, the overall experience becomes overpriced. I felt like the amount of money spent in total $80 ish is excessive and to be honest, I've had much better. Another note, I don't think the Parmesan cheese was real, it was an emulsified cheese, not truly authentic. Overall, I understand the price hike, plenty of tourists and it is the holiday month and season. I think the experience is worse than it normally would be, but even then, a pasta is easy to make and the taste can be emulated by myself. Things ordered was the penne pasta with marinara and a linguini on menu, pictures are featured for reference.

I'm so happy I didn't listen to the negative reviews and stopped by on December 31st for dinner around 6 pm. Absolutely everything was great: the menu was pretty big, the atmosphere was super cozy, the appetizers came out fast, the waiter was polite, and the food itself was delicious. A great dinner on New Years Eve that makes me want to come back and eat there again.

Linguine n clams before the Parmesan

We came to Solvang for Danish and Wine and found some of the best Italian Food we've eaten. I ordered the linguine and clams. It was a favorite of my Dad's and he would've loved this version. Hubby got the lasagna and asked for extra bread to make sure his plate was clean. They have local beers and some imported favorites. Glad I could walk to the hotel from there. Wonderful service. Cesar, our server, was attentive, friendly and professional. The hostess was wonderful. This will definitely be a stop when we return. What a fun town for food and drink.

Penne funghi was DELICIOUS! The creamy tomato sauce made the dish.

The food feels thoughtful without trying too hard, and every dish had so much flavor packed into it. The Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich was the standout for me. The gochujang Coca Cola glaze gave it that perfect sweet and savory balance, while the snap pea slaw added freshness and crunch. And somehow the brown butter cashew butter tied everything together in the best way possible. The Wagyu Pastrami Sandwich was just as memorable, rich, juicy, and super satisfying. The Swiss cheese, horseradish cream, sauerkraut aioli, and beef jus all worked so well together without overpowering the wagyu. We also ordered the strawberry lemonade and lavender lemonade, which were both super refreshing and perfect for brunch. And to end the meal, the sticky toffee pudding was absolutely exquisite. Warm, soft, rich, and easily one of the best desserts I've had in a while. I would honestly suggest not sharing it lol. Definitely one of those brunch spots where you leave already thinking about your next visit.

Coast Range seemed to check all the boxes, and they had an available reservation on the patio. We got (for us) the perfect table, which was a small area next to the entrance. Actually only our table, which was great for containing our puppy, plus a heat lamp and service over the pony wall which worked out great! We started with delicious cold, crisp martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives and a bowl of water for our pup. Our server (Chelsea B?) was so fun and friendly! We then had maybe the best wedge salad we've ever had! I think the lettuce was cut to, but not thru, the base, and opened up, with toppings inside. Roasted beet cubes, bacon, blue cheese and shallots, plus cherry tomatoes, hard boiled egg quarters and fried shallots garnish. It was incredible. I think they should call it "More than a Wedge." We also had the Ahi crudo, which had a delicious sauce and thinly sliced peppers. I wasn't too hungry, so had the French onion soup as my main course. So, it definitely didn't taste anything like French onion soup! It looked like it, and it was definitely cooked down onions but the flavor wasn't anything like I'd expect. However, it was really delicious and satisfied my craving for something warm & cheesy. So if you go in knowing that, I think you'll enjoy it. I don't like lamb, so my husband often gets it when we go out. When he took his first bite, I could tell he enjoyed it. He said it was some of the best lamb he's had and he's had a lot! It's à la carte, but did come with a tiny bit of salad and a roasted pepper which he thought was perfect. Since I was having the soup we didn't order a vegetable side, which we normally would, but this vegetable garnish worked perfectly for him. Definitely recommended!

In fact, I professionally moonlight as Historian specializing in medieval English history! This means that I am a sucker for anything reminding of the time period; making the Santa Barbara-adjacent Danish city of Solvang right up my alley with its medieval storybook streets/architecture. Among the many spots in Solvang that make my heart go pitter-patter is The Good Life: a cellar wine/ale/tavern- bar. Grab your favorite wench and come along to grab a pint... Stroll down Mission Drive in the famous Danish city of Solvang and you will be delighted to venture upon The Good Life that appears to pop out of a medieval history book with exposed wooden beans, plaster exterior walls and an entrance that resides at basement level (they don't call it a cellar bar for nothing!). Owned by a husband-wife team with extensive hospitality and restaurant experience under their belts in 2012; the charm of The Good Life is instantaneous and perfect for a gal like me obsessed with this sort of thing. Prepare to be instantly transported into the 15th century! Once you cross the threshold of The Good Life, the Shakesperean feel continues but is also modernized with a glowing fireplace, plush arm chairs and high bar tables (plus bar seating) and floor to ceiling wine racks. The Good Life is a perfect ratio of Solvang tradition with hints of romance making it ideal for a casual beverage, tourist pop-in or memorable date night drink. The latter is exactly how my boyfriend and I happened to come across The Good Life as we were visiting Solvang from Los Angeles for the city's Christmas-time Julefest. We had just spent the evening making holiday memories among the city's Christmas trees, twinkling lights and sugary delights. Post Danish-dinner, we decided to wrap up our forever-Solvang memory with a drink at The Good Life. We were immediately greeted by the male manning The Good Life without any attitude or distaste towards us for coming in as he was preparing to close for the evening. If he was upset with us in any way - he certainly didn't show it! The Good Life features an amazing menu of local and international wines, beers, ales, meads, ciders, and ports that make The Good Life feel fancy-schmancy and artisan; but also, neighborhood friendly for your favorite hipster or friend next door. My boyfriend and I shared a cider (I wish I remembered the specific one but alas my memory evades me) while enjoying the atmosphere of warmth at The Good Life. Other customers sat in the plush chairs with notepads and tarot cards, an older couple arrived to cap off the evening and I enjoyed the view of my boyfriend in a medieval-Danish inspired cellar bar. The Good Life is standout at accommodating to all customers and making sure no one feels out of place. A bountiful tip as important as the bosom of a medieval bar wench: the bathroom at The Good Life is labeled as 'Office'. Don't worry, you won't walk in on someone preparing accounting books and the only business happening behind this door involves you and your private matters. The Good Life is delightful and unique but doesn't just stop there: it also differentiates itself with a truly impressive alcohol selection that allows you to be introduced to local, national, Danish and international bevies you have surely not tried prior. The Good Life is recommended for a drink on your next trip to the tourist-friendly city of Solvang. Even if you aren't pretending to be in medieval times...
