Came to Luckys for the first time today for groceries now that I've relocated. Had never even heard of this place before, but it seemed big and there was parking by the entrance so in I went. Immediately picked up an ad, and found several great deals: well priced produce, and lots of BOGO deals for featured butcher meats. I love a good deal, and I was hooked. Produce was plentiful, fresh, and well priced, and selection of BOGO ,eats was good, too- just over six bucks for several pounds with of thick cut pork chop rib eyes? Yes please. Store itself was clean and well organized, and employees were attentive and asked if we needed help throughout our visit. Our cashier kind of gave some attitude when we asked about the charge added to the price of our case of bottled water- being unfamiliar with Cali recycling taxes/policies, I had no idea why the price was significantly different on later than posted on the shelf. I didn't need the dismissive and condescending explanation that "we've been doing it for years". For the unbeatable deals though, I'll be back. Will try to catch a different cashier next time though... read more

The store is nice, although the blonde manager is not. It was 9:55pm and before I walk in, she is standing at the door and tells me the store is closing in less than a minute. I asked her what time they closed and she said 10:00pm. I then asked why the store a was closing at 9:55pm and she said they "use their own clock" and her employees will all be gone. I've worked retail and have never heard that before. All I had to get was milk, so I go into the store to get it. When I'm checking out at the front, the cashier laughed and told me he didn't know why the manger was being stuck up since he was still going to be working after the store closed. His shift wasn't over until 10:30pm. The manger just didn't want us to shop, she would have rather kicked everyone out so she can go home and lay on her couch. I usually go to Lucky's every once in while since it's right down the street from my house. The frozen food section is so unorganized. I was shocked when I saw frozen dog food in fridges. I don't get why dog food is put in the same freezer as the human food. The least they could do is put the dog food at the end of the freezer instead of in the middle of all the other foods. Other than that, this grocery store is alright. read more

I've used this store on and off for nearly 15 years. On a recent trip I noticed that their self checkout counter is super cramped. They have a divider in between and someone almost hit me with their cart. They should remove the divider and make the place safer for everyone. read more

i love Coming here since it's super close to me and everyone is super helpful how ever that tall cashier lady with the long nasty nails has horrible customer service she was throwing my food after scanning it and one of my items fell on her side where they keep the bags because she threw it so hard . What kind of service are you guys offering at this location hiring people like this ? . Unbelievable. I hope you review your camera after this and get this situation under control . Very bad customer service. The Customer Service desk was closed at 7:45am. When I asked a clerk when it opens he asked what I needed (and seemed annoyed). He then called over the PA for a particular person to come to Customer Service. I stood by the CS desk and then heard her response over the PA that she was in Receiving. Did that mean she wasn't coming? The clerk said nothing to her or to me. Since the clerk didn't let me know what to expect, I left. I wasn't going to stand there wasting my time if she wasn't going to go to CS desk. Lucky, please train your employess to communicate better, to not act annoyed at being bothered, and have the Customer Service desk open whenever the store is open. read more

The l refried pork rice was good wish it would have had more Asia seasoning; and not as spicy as I would have liked it to be. But otherwise it was on the right track for flavor itself. The fellow employees seemed to loved it during our potluck lunch. Was all gone fast. read more

Oh, I'm so glad that this is not an Albertson's anymore!! Stopped in here after having dinner with some friends. We needed the basic stuff - milk, bread, bananas, cereal, etc. I occasionally shopped here while it was Albertson's and wasn't too impressed, but what a change since Lucky took over. I found it very easy to locate the items I needed and the staff was available and helpful when I had a question. (And, no, I haven't finished working on my taxes yet!) read more

It's hard to find a Lucky supermarket anymore because usually a nearby Safeway is stealing all of their business. As a result, this Lucky is the closest to my home although it takes me 15 minutes to drive here. Why go to all that effort? Lucky sometimes has some super good deals on meat, frozen, fruits and vegetables, and beer too. It all depends on whatever is on their front page of their weekly flyer. This Lucky doesn't have a Starbucks or a full functioning bank but they do still offer their SHARES program which helps to donate money to local non profits. They still have their 3's a Crowd thing where they open up another line if there are three or more people waiting but I usually avoid that and go through the self checkout kiosks. read more

Main reason for the review: today I saw strawberries on sale that had mold growing all over on the bottom. WTF. I'll still probably go here but would think twice about buying any produce/fruits here. I dislike this Lucky. Workers are rude, they act like they have better to do then help you. Actually not all the workers, the baggers, the cart getters and the bakery they have better attitudes because they know customer service makes a great day. The cashiers are something else. That's why when I need to go to Lucky's I make sure I get 15 items or below, they have a self checkout so you don't have to deal with the attitudes. I've also noticed that their prices are higher by a bit than Safeway. Oh and beware of the Seafood department, sometimes that area smells like a well established hore house.....get my drift (no pun intended). read more

I was in the store on a recent shopping trip. After paying all my bills on my credit card, I was at my limit, and only had so much in my checking. Javier the manager was so kind and gentle with me, helping me through, without judgement. I was mortified. His kindness was what I needed that day, as we had just moved here, and my husband had just gotten mugged outside our new place. I had always been a Safeway shopper, but this store carries everything I need at better prices, looks nice and clean, and the staff and management couldn't be nicer! I am now a greatful convert! In A Nutshell: *I'm usually not inclined to review a grocery store, but wanted to report my uber experience at this Lucky's in three letters - OMG *I came back twice on a Saturday for their one-day $4.99 /lb Angus NY Steak Sale. #1 - Why wouldn't you want to jump on this deal? #2 The customer service I received from three separate female employees was LEGENDARY. *The first lady commented after I did a self-checkout re: the steaks I bought on sale. Her - "Those are such a great deal huh?" Me - "Heck yeah, too bad I could only buy two packs at a time, but I'm going to put these in the car and come right back for more." Her - *sly grin* "I won't say anything" Me - "I'll be back". *The second time I came back, after picking up two more steaks on sale, I went to look for my buddies and they were at the deli. The lady there asked us if we needed any help and then after a short convo, she befriended me. I was asking about potato salad behind the deli and she leaves her post and walks out inside the shopping floor and lead me to the "packaged" potato salad. She not only said that this was better than the "fresh" potato salad, but also attached a $3 off coupon stating that if you bought this brand, you'd also get cash off the steak I was buying (which was already a terrific deal). *Now at this point, being giddy and loving the customer service at this Lucky's, we went to the check out line. *This is when I felt like I should pay attention to the next lady's name tag. Her name is Joyce. She had such a great sense of humor (something I didn't expect) and her playful attitude during checkout was 100% beyond what her supervisor or their supervisor's would expect out of their employees. She very relatable, warm and wanted to make sure we left with a high-level of satisfaction. Overall, I love this place! The sales are great, but even though this place is 6 miles away from home, I've decided that it's well worth the trip due to the customer service and hospitality. read more

Great produce section, better variety than Safeway, a bakery with freshly baked goods, nice deli, meat/fish selections is ok, pharmacy in the house, self check out, bar-b-que items outside when the weather permits, lotto tickets, bank in the store...this place has it all! I guess my only gripe is the sketchy derelicts that seem to frequent this location. Today was the 3rd time getting the bums rush for $$ (or even use of my charge card for their groceries!) while shopping inside the store. And this happens during daytime hours, not during evening hours. This guy gave me the creeps. He tried to walk out of the store with the cart full of groceries and the staff was right on it. The people who work here have all been pretty pleasant, but I don't know why these guys are attracted to this store. Maybe it IS the vast selection, sheer size of the store relative to the size of the staff. Otherwise, this store has a great selection...minus the panhandling. read more

I'm absolutely shocked by all these reviews because I HATE this Lucky's! I have never left this store happy. I find that most of their employees are extremely rude especially a cashier named Manley. She is definitely one of the rudest employees that I have ever encountered. I can handle rude employees because they are everywhere but what really bothers me about this Lucky is that the GOOD sale items, the sales that actually get me to go into Lucky's, are usually out of stock. They act like it is no problem though because they'll gladly write me a rain check for the item so I can pick it up the next time I go in to do my grocery shopping but unfortunately that item won't be back in the store until it is on sale again in a few months so the rain check does me no good. I think it is a complete scam just to get me in the door because they know that since I'm already there, I'm going to do the rest of my grocery shopping there too. Another thing that drives me crazy is that I always end up getting overcharged every time I'm there! Today, I was charged $9.99 for a turkey rather than the ad listed price of $7.99. I asked the cashier if I had been charged the $7.99 because it rang up on the screen as $9.99 and she looked at the $9.99 and told me that it actually rang up at $7.99. I decided to trust her but when I got home and looked at the receipt; I had indeed been charged the $9.99. Sure, it was only $2.00 but I seem to get overcharged every time that I'm in there (probably once a week) so it adds up. Also, the butchers need to wrap the meat better. I always get meat juice all over my hands and there are no complimentary sanitary wipes or anything around so that means that the salmonella/bacteria/nastiness is getting all over the cart handles where my toddler and I both put our hands. Here is another example of the poor meat wrapping/poor customer service: one day when I was checking out, I saw that a pack of chicken that I was purchasing was violently leaking chicken juice, I asked Manley, my favorite cashier, if I could go get a different pack because that was disgusting and she told me that "there was no point because they all leak". Well she is right, none of the meat is packaged well, but I didn't want the one that was leaking so hardcore. She didn't understand that though. I REALLY HOPE I DON'T FIND MY WAY BACK TO THAT STORE. I just can't handle the horrible customer service, the gross meat department and being scammed. read more

DEE DEE was so great! I walked in with a crutch and before I knew it she was riding the electric cart over to me and even helped me get on. I was shocked! I had been using crutches for weeks and not once did someone do that for me. She even offered to hold my crutch at the front while I did my shopping. My wife was here tonight and the service was horrible, this guy in the cash register name Steve was so rude to my wife. She was ready to pay two gallons of milk and after she got charge, the cash register got frost and the guy call her to a different register and he try to charge her again and didn't let her go with her stuff after she paid. She got charge doble then. She ask for the manager and got told that he was the manager my wife was so angry that even cry because she couldn't defend herself, she doesn't speak English very well, we always go to this store because is in our neighborhood, after tonight we won't came back again They need a better training for management so they can be nice to customers read more

Ok so I haven't actually shopped or bought any food here before but I come to get help every month at the service center. As far as their customer service goes, they have the most friendliest and helpful employees I have ever encountered at a grocey store. Without a fail, everytime I come in and ask for someone at the service center the employees either acknowledge my needs before I say anything or they are happy to help me out and make sure I get what I need. I just haven't found this standard of respect, care and service at a grocery which I appreciate. And I hope it continues. read more

Wow! Weird rude staff. For example, when I got into the market, there was a young male employee just standing at the door, not greeting people, just looking at everyone. Creeepy! When I was going through the aisles, another older male employee was walking around, and managed to greet 10 of the guests in the store, but completely ignored me, and then proceeded to almost run into me. When I checked out, the checker was completely rude! Just didn't seem to want to be there, and had a bad attitude. The signage was not right. For example, the website states that there was a special where you could buy two items and get a different item free. The shelf did not indicate any specials. And since there were no fliers in the front of the store, there was no way for me to verify that the item was on sale. read more

Note: This review applies across all Luckys, in my case. Today's bill came out to: $53.35 Number of items: 17 Total Savings: $9.09 (15% savings!) I've been grocery shopping at Lucky for as long as I can remember. Hooray. Managed to get a fresh 18 oz box of blueberries (normally $6.99, but now on sale at $1.97), which really compelled me to finally write my review for this place. You have to look to find organic fruits and veggies, and they of course cost more than the regular versions, but they are available. Produce sections are regularly stocked with healthy looking fruits and veggies. Not sure how much distance the produce travelled, so farmers' markets may be more sustainable shopping options for produce. Still, the items here last a good amount of time. Staff members are willing to answer any questions/concerns. They are also very proactive in handling problems. For example, there have been times when my clumsiness/awkward moments have caused a salsa jar to drop and break. Outcome: staff came by, cleaned up the mess, and didn't even make me pay for the food item, even though I felt I ought to. Needless to say, though, I try my best to avoid repeating this situation as much as possible. If you're looking for something very specific to your dietary needs, such as eggless cakes, you may want to try Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Otherwise, you can get just about everything you need here, including several Green/environmentally friendly products. Note on pricing: From my shopping experiences, I am sure that several products could be obtained for cheaper at places like Trader Joes or some ethnic grocery stores. Its hard to compare, though, as brands will vary between one chain and another. Whole Foods is something I consider to be a more health oriented, slightly more upscale/organic version of places like Lucky and Safeway. All the same, for the convenience factor (getting all the essential kitchen and bathroom items in one place) and associated savings in time (and yes, even money), Luckys does a terrific job. Besides, as you can see from my shopping experience posted above, they regularly have great sales if you take the time to look. read more

Holy Matzah Balls! This store has an impressive selection of Jewish groceries. Far more than I've ever seen in a regular store on the West Coast. They also bring in fresh challahs & baked goods, meats, dairy items and have a whole row of frozen foods. I can't wait to see the Passover displays here! I find the produce to be a bit better than average supermarket fare - but not on par with specialty stores. I do think the bakery is decent, they make some yummy nubby cheese bread and snickers cake. The prices seem to be a bit higher than Safeway for non-sale items. I always have issues with the self check out though. Those things must hate me! So, we generally stick with the checkers - who are always helpful and polite. EDIT: Passover has landed! Wow it totally rocks, they have tons of Passover items! read more

I don't ask for much from a supermarket -- cleanliness, good selection, nice produce, friendly employees. This Lucky hits on all those levels. It's not all tricked-out like some other markets, but it's a solid choice for all of the above qualities I listed. Great parking, too. Oh, and they have fresh-baked whole wheat for under $2. 5 minutes away and the staff is always SUPER nice: The cashiers always talks to you, the bakery ladies are attentive, and the butcher always is around to ask if you need help with anything! I find that Lucky normally has better sales on red meats than Safeway and sometimes will have better sale on chicken, but not too often. I LOVE this Lucky! For the past few months, I've been shopping at the Lucky at El Camino and Lawrence Expwy. It's ok. The people there are nice and that's what always makes a difference to me. But we moved to a new area and started going to this Lucky and I'm SO impressed! The meat counter is fantastic. Awesome variety! I've never seen so many varieties of fresh fish, either, at great prices. I also like the layout and variety of almost everything there seems good. I've only been to this store a few times, and so far, it's more than wonderful. I will keep my peepers peeled, though, for other things to advise on :) read more

Love the self checkout, love that they honor SHARES reward program, love the variety, love the location, Prices are ok, staff helpful, beer selection fine, lines aren't too bad, flexible hours, the whole cross section of customers, humanity at its best. Meat selection is good, as is their very cool bakery AND deli. Great bonus services! Nice that in addition to all the usual products they have a bit of "ethnic" variety too, ie that which you'd see at Mexican and Asian markets. I have been shopping at this Lucky supermarket location since mid-2008, when I moved to Santa Clara. Their store is clean and has everything a shopper might want, their staff is very helpful and friendly, and they go the extra mile to make sure you are a satisfied customer. Case in point: last Monday April 11 I stocked up on some things, including a package of imitation crab/shrimp mix and imitation lobster. I forgot to look at the fresh date, and when I was about to prepare a dish using one of these packages, I noticed that it said "use by" with a date in March! I took the now-empty package, and the still-sealed one, back with my receipt. A very nice man (I think he is an assistant manager) told me he would give me a full refund, and replace the products with the expired dates. I was very pleased when that is what happened (the manager I usually talk to, Shanna, was on vacation). He also told me he was going to check and see what happened that expired products were on the shelves. This is the first time in 3 years that I have encountered an expired product. I've always felt welcome when I shop there and I'm sure you will too! read more

This grocery store is good. They always have parking available. The staff is friendly. I think the prices are good. I would actually give it one dollar sign if I could. They have a redbox inside which I use often. Not giving five stars because I got bad chicken here once. Other then that pretty good grocery store. I actually really enjoy shopping here when I'm in the area. I LOVE their French bread and deli meats! And You can sometimes find great deals on meats on the weekends and you get rewarded for shopping with points that you can later redeem for select store merchandise . Also if you haven't signed up to the emails do so, you get a weekly featured item free =) their produce is sometimes a little overpriced compared to other grocery stores in the area, that is why they only get 4 stars. Forgot to mention... The manager here is super personable and accommodating! I once wanted to buy a sale item that was out of stock and she was able to get me a deal on the same item in a bigger size. Which was great cause I didn't leave empty handed and got a good deal. read more

I really wish that more of these reviews were about the actual products and services that the stores provide but lately all I can do is write about the atrocious customer service that most of the stores provide. I started trying to go to the lucky store because I thought it would be cheaper Then Safeway but I found the prices here to be just as bad I'm sure that everything is expensive everywhere but lucky at least has better quality products. I am noticing a trend of employees who just absolutely do not give a rat's ass whatsoever about how they come off and how they act and how they are all unknowledgeable about their own products and where they are located it's becoming seriously ridiculous. Another trip to the store with half awake brain dead zombie employees that do not say please do not say thank you do not make eye contact. I understand it's just a grocery store And that maybe a person doesn't feel like having common decency on a day-to-day basis but that is the job that you chose. I have also noticed this sense of entitlement with customer service employees where they don't feel like they have to say thank you please hello bye because they feel like they are owed something by the Customers simply because they're working there.. But common decencies are something that every human being has to have and anyone who is worth their salt should be saying please thank you hello and goodbye. I actually watched a frustrated old lady tried to get answers out of unemployed today unemployed today only for him to shrek his shoulders and say he doesn't know and then literally walk away from her and she called him out on it and it was hilarious. I would say get better employees but I have not been to a store that has good customer service in several years now and this place is no exception. In addition to the fact that their products are sub par when you compare them to Safeway which has the same prices. But don't worry Safeway employees will be just as rude to you if not worse. read more

The rudest Mexican produce clerk had the audacity to humiliate me when I tasted their cheap cherries on sale. There was no garbage around and shoppers were throwing cherries pits on the side of the shelf. And I did the same thing and he snapped at me. I don't usually buy anything from this store and I won't go back again. After just a few days, I had to throw away the cherries that cost around $10 because they were already full of molds. Yuk, cheap and expensive and rude produce Mexican clerk who was having a bad day. No way, I am not buying anything from that store again. read more

I don't think I'd go back to this location. I came in on 12/30/18 at around 5 pm. I got a few things which were pretty pricey. If you know Safeway prices, this place is similar in prices. Despite that, I purchased items for over $22! The self checkout system was acting strange. It kept saying I didn't put items in the bagging area when I did. It asked for assistance numerous times for no clear reason. The staff lady came to help each time with an attitude. Then it asked me if I wanted a bag. I pressed yes for one bag and it asked again. It repeated that three times. Which I pressed yes for one each time. The lady working the self checkout lanes watched me struggle with this but didn't come to aid. Then due to the long line of impatient customers behind me I just pressed Got my own bag. The lady finally came and said you didn't pay for the bag. I said I'm sorry! Crazy system. She said well I need 10 cents. I paid her the 10 cents just to leave. Usually I ask to speak to a manger if I feel a worker is being rude but I didn't. I should've taken down her name but I was so annoyed I just wanted to leave. Won't go back. read more

Probably the worst experience I've had here and don't think I want to come back anytime soon... cashier is ringing up my groceries misses all the produce that was was marked down then asks me if I need bags I say yes , apparently he didn't hear me! Asks if I need help out and starts to walk away.... I then asked him do you guys not bag groceries anymore??? I come here all the time because it is conveniently close to my house! Walking distance, i freaking love that! However, yesterday I had a bad experience when i went to the customer service desk to return carrots that I had bought the previous night.. I was standing there for a while, with a guy first in line in front of me. I kept trying to catch 3 people's eyes so that they would ask "can I get you a manager?" or SOMEONE to freaking help me, but everyone would look and then quickly avoid my gaze!! I got sooo frustrated, I had to go straight up to the lady and say "Excuse me, are YOU a manager??" She says noo and then I ask for one to be sent FINALLY to the customer service department and i was finally helped after 10 minutes of just stupidely standing there.. I was so frustrated, I thought that they had better service there! I know that Safeway always gets right on top of taking care of the customers right when you get in front of their customer service desk, but Lucky did way less than that. Whenever I go here, I rarely ever get nice people to help me. Kind of getting annoying now, but hopefully one day, they will learn to treat paying customers with more respect than avoiding their gaze when they are JUST trying to get some help. read more
