So many great places to eat in El Paso, I have chosen Lucy's for breakfast several times and this time I went in for lunch. Be prepared to wait. I had the Antonia tacos and they did not have the avocado, I let my waiter know and promptly brought three slices, as the order is for three tacos. Flavors are consistently good read more

I really wavered on whether to give Lucy's four or five stars because the food was excellent and the whole family was a big fan, but getting the food was a different story. Husband was craving NM style breakfast burritos, so I asked around and decided to finally give Lucy's a try since it's been on my bookmark list forever. We called ahead with our order of 4 breakfast burritos and a breakfast plate and told to pick up in 20 minutes. That gave me some time to make a quick trip to Albertsons to pick up a few items and arrive right on time. I sent my husband in to pick up the order and it took an extra 30 minutes for him to come out with it. I saw many, many, people come and go during this time so I fully realize they were busy. My husband suspects they forgot to make our order and/or started it when he arrived. Luckily our food came out fresh and exceeded everyone's expectations, so we'll be back and hopefully I can update with their fifth star. read more

According to Charles Y., this Lucy's serves the best Machaca, but I'm willing to bet I would be just as impressed with the OG Lucy's Machaca (then again I'm no Lucy's-Machaca-expert). Regardless of the truth to that statement, I put my foodie faith in Charles and allowed him to be my foodie spirit guide for the day. You never feel quite as awkwardly inadequate as when you go to a party with a friend where everyone recognizes your friend, but couldn't give two hoots who the hell you are. A lot of times, diner's attitudes can be chalked up to something similar. Charles is a regular at Lucy's...but surprisingly enough the two on hand were just as warm and welcoming with me. A huge plus, they were all smiles. Diners nowadays can really go either way with service, but Lucy's has that real deal, old school diner hospitality. After flipping over the menu 46 times (because I'm a woman and we tend to be indecisive unless under pressure) I settled on the Combination Plate because it literally had everything I wanted. And of course Charles got the Machaca because you know, Machaca (also, I want to take the time to point out that Machaca is a very common Mexican breakfast dish...only worth noting because of the many inquisitions I get when I order it, I swear I'm not making this up). A couple of seconds later a tomatillo based salsa was brought over which I was very intrigued by, simply because it was served sans chips...but I thought to myself, Self, who knows, that may just be for our dishes. A few minutes later we were served freshly made chips. SAY WHAT?!? You would think that would be commonplace in EP, but I have seriously never, NEVER seen any local restaurants with chips made in house. You're blowin' my mind, Lucy's. The chips and salsa were yes, just yes. The diner experience here is legit. The stove, manned by one of the owners, is right out in the open...basically all I'm looking for in an authentic diner. I don't know why it's so mesmerizing watching someone cook, but it is and I could seriously sit at Lucy's from open to close doing just that. Back to the food...these dishes came out looking [and smelling] absolutely YUM! The Combination Plate comes with an enchilada, a taco, a chile relleno, beans, rice, and salad. I'm not a big fan of Mexican rice and didn't even notice it's absence on my plate, but shortly into my meal our waitress brought me fries and informed me they were unfortunately out of rice. I seriously wouldn't have known the difference. The enchilada was loaded with melted cheese, no rinky-dink portions of cheese. The taco was just a simple fried taco with shredded beef, but I would totally do a plate of these...do they do Taco Tuesday? Definitely worth looking into. The chile relleno was more than just a chile stuffed with cheese and covered in a fried batter, it was also topped with a mild pico de gallo. OH.MY.GERD. Loved the chile relleno, it would be amazing as a burrito too. The beans were what I expected, nothing more, nothing less. The salad was a step up from the typical salad you get on the side at most Mexican eateries in El Paso, but the sole reasoning is their addition of avocado. The fries were simple...nothing to write home about, but no complaints. And you better believe I stole a bite from Charles' plate. I have only one thing to say about this, it's called 'World Famous' for a reason. Okay wait, two things. The cheese is like that melt-y good stuff you always crave on nachos. That is all. I'll definitely be back, making my way through the menu. Oh and I didn't try the coffee, but if I had to speculate I would guess it's kind of bad because every great diner has bad coffee. read more

I found this place to be beyond underwhelming and approaching gross. First the positive - the waiter and the rest of the staff were nice, the meat for the burger tasted good and the soup that came with the meal was good, as well. It stops there unfortunately. I went here at the recommendation of the guy at Discount Tire while I waited for my tires to get repaired so I had good expectations. However, it started to go wrong with the chips and salsa that came out. While the salsa was decent and spicy, the chips were so soaked with oil and not cooked well, I could tear them like cardboard. There were maybe 2 in the basket that approached crispy and "fresh". When the burger came out it was super greasy even if the meat was decent, and the fries (see picture) were super oily, undercooked, and I couldn't even eat them. The redeeming qualities listed above were not nearly enough to get me to go back and I will find other places! read more

Coming from Houston to El Paso en-route to NM, this was a wonderful place for breakfast. The chilaquiles with chicken had a real authentic flavor of Mexican spices and home-cooked goodness. The French toast was Texas-sized and very satisfying. The eggs with chorizo while a bit dry, were full of flavor. We definitely recommend this particular locale out of the 3 Lucy's in El Paso. The manager here is the friendliest of them all!! I'd love to come back. read more

I came here with pretty low expectations and was still disappointed. The place is old, crowded, the lights flicker, they need a whole new building. They didnt give me a fork, there was a hair, a whole hair, in my orange juice. They bring all your items at different times in a random order, they use their old ingredient jars as cups for beverages The food was actually good but nothing you cant find anywhere else minus the other issues mentioned. Oh They have Beto O'Rourke hanging on the wall. All in all, you're better off eating some place else. read more

*Tastes like homemade! *Tried the Chilangas (like deluxe migas). Chopped tortillas, eggs, bell peppers, onion, tomatoes, little chorizo for flare and flavor, cheese sauce topped with sour cream and a couple slices of avocado. Really very good! Great flavor. If I was making this at home, I would add more chorizo and egg. If I ordered again, I would order an extra egg to be tossed in there. *David gave us chips and a delicious spicy salsa verde. I'm a big baby so take that for what it's worth. *David and his wife make a good team. I saw them pick up jobs where the other left off. *Prices are very reasonable. *Excellent friendly service! I love the Lucy's next to Kings X. This was my first experience at Lucy's Café West. I came in Sunday morning and our experience was ultimately a little lacking. There was five of us and we were seated pretty quickly. But we had to ask twice for our coffee and water (our fifth friend we had to ask a third time for). The salsa also lacked the flavor that I'm accustomed to from the other location. It had the heat, but everyone agreed the flavor was off. The coffee wasn't particularly good either. That being said, the beef machaca was still excellent. A girl at at a table next to me saw it and began asking me questions about the machaca. To be honest I mainly go to Lucys for the machaca so the experience was still a win for me. Probably just an off day but if you don't want to risk it then I still highly recommend Lucy's near King X. read more

I'm from out of town but I'm in El Paso every week for business. I just had breakfast at your West location 6600 N. Mesa. This was the first time I was in one of your restaurants. I had your Machaca breakfast and it was amazing! I'm going to be back on a regular basis but probably at one of your other locations. The service was good and everyone was friendly. Most of the employees were wearing "Lucy's Cafe" tee shirts. However, one of your servers whose name is David was wearing a tee shirt that said "Same Shit, Different Day". It was on the front and back of the shirt with those words covering almost the entire back of the shirt. I'm really not a prude but as a businessman, I wonder if that's what you want your people to wear in an environment where there are families, including small children, who are there for a dining experience? read more

This place is really bad. the so called favorite plate "tacos antonia" is very disgusting. They served them with a huge pile of lettuce, tomatoes cilantro and sour cream. A delicious and authentic meal! The owner is extremely kind and generous and is proud of his craftsmanship, for good reason. He recommended the muchacha and Tacos Antonia. The Tacos Antonia were the BEST tacos I've ever had. I am from California. I am not exaggerating. The taco shells are seasoned tastefully and the generous heaps of mozarella shavings atop each taco elevate its umami. The beef shreds are tender and tucked alongside generous dollops of guacamole and sour cream. In one bite you get crispy from the shell, juicy from the beef, smooth from the sour cream, and citrus cool from the guac, all tied together with the umami from the mozarella shavings. FOOD POISONING !!! Beware!!!!! This place had very good food and some of the best guacamole I have ever had. They also had good service, however, the basics to any restaurant are that you don't get food poisoning from the food. I nearly went to the hospital and was bed ridden for 2 days after eating here (no sleeping though). Easily one of the top 10 experiences of my life. I am glad my wife and son did not have what I had. This place is really scary to eat at if you have ever eaten at the bar and watched them cook your food. It's cross contamination central, not following any food safety protocol. Dirty dishes right next to them preparing "fresh" food, raw bacon right next to cooked hash browns on the same griddle... it's a nightmare. Also forget about any expectations for a fresh meal. They love the microwave. Saw them microwave a bowl of menudo, and microwaving a huge bowl of rice (and sticking a bare finger in it to see if it was warm enough) which was then served on a plate. There are no negative stars. Which is sad because this place deserves it. I love the Lucy's that is connected to Kings X. They have always been friendly and the food wonderful. So why wouldn't I want to try the other Lucy's. I have never been treated this way in a restaurant ever. My party sat down. The waiter ignored us. Then another group came in after us and they were seated and their drink order taken. We are still sitting there. The waiter then serves the party after us and another party chips and salsa. Still the waiter doesn't take our drink order or bring us chips and salsa. So we wait and try to get his attention and he ignores us still. Then he takes the order for the party after us and at that point I was fed up. But just to top it off as we are leaving the waiter actually smiles at us and says thanks for coming. Finding a great Mexican meal in El Paso was not an easy one. Jenny and I were more determined, more so after a dinner a day before in the neighborhood of our hotel on arrival, disappointing to say the least. Sourcing through Yelps was one thing but Lucy had been the chef for well over 40 years until recently spoke loud of the kind of preparation expected. Very nice new restaurant location with the traditional Lucy's menu. Unlike the other Lucy's, this one is sparkling clean with granite, tile and art. We have been wanting to try this place. Always heard of Lucy's Machaca so that is what I had and guacamole. Wife had the green meat enchiladas. The chips and salsa were very tasty and they served us a vegetable noodle soup that was good. The food was very fresh as the lady cooks it right there. I ordered red chilaquiles con pollo, received the chilaquiles completely dry, they were slightly painted with the sauce. The chilaquiles didn't not come with chicken, the sides were not good as well the hash browns were not cooked. It tasted horrible with no flavor.
