After growing weary of trying to find a decent slice of pizza in Bayside I stumbled upon Luigi's. A few years ago I had taken home a grilled eggplant salad from there that was delicious and said well let me give them a shot and I tried the pizza and was very pleasantly surprised. So tonight I ordered in, a grilled eggplant salad and a pizza. 30 minutes later they were ringing my doorbell with my order. A very polite and cheerful delivery person. Have to say this- **used to** be a solid 5 stars for us. We ordered all the time. That grandma pie! Outrageous. The sauce on it. Oh my! For about 12 years this was my go to spot. Sadly over the past year or so there has been a very noticeable difference in the grandma pies. The dough used to be light and tender. Now it's tough. And heavy. And oftentimes brittle in the corners. Feels leaden in the belly. Makes me sad. At first I thought it might just be me, but a few friends commented as well. Ordered pizza from here and I was pleasantly surprised. The regular pie was thin and had a nice sauce to cheese ratio. It was tasty. After reading the reviews for the whole wheat pizza, I thought why not and ordered a pie. I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. The decor and ambiance is like most pizzerias you would find. There were a few tables and seats for anyone that wanted to sit down and enjoy their food. We approached the back of the pizzeria and I was delighted to see how many varieties of pizza and food they had. I really like that the pizza had a crunch to it and I am not talking about just the crust, I meant with each bite. The Caesar salad slice had crispy chicken (it was actually crispy), romaine lettuce, cheese and Caesar dressing around the slice. The Caesar salad slice was absolutely delicious! I've never had a salad pizza as good as this one. I highly recommend this particular pizza for people to try. This place has been my go to place for many years, the food is usually great, however do not go there after 8:00pm. The service is lousy at that time. The workers are all speaking Spanish to one another and completely ignoring anyone standing at the counter. I asked for the slices that I could see were there and the gentleman put it under the counter and said it was for someone else. Not sure who as no one came in during my half hour in the place. There were no garlic knots and they did not offer to make any. So I got whatever was left over. When I asked what time they closed I was told 10:00. So for the next 2 hours there would be no garlic knots, no grandma pizza and no margarita pizza. I guess when the boss is not around, they just do as they please. The service is lousy. Very disappointing I went back and today service was better so I'm adding a star. read more

I was contemplating on giving this place 2 stars, but I'm giving them 3 stars because their individual slices are delicious. My favorite specialty slice is chicken caesar. The lettuce is always fresh, not a day old. Their crust keeps the toppings in place, and doesn't slide off. However, their large cheese pie is more like a medium pie cut into 8ths. Their slices are very small. I was very surprised. I wish I did a size comparison with an individual slice and a cheese slice from the pie. I went for lunch today with my mother and sister, my pizza was burnt and my sisters calzone had a hair on it. We were told we could not have a refund unless they called the owner, which they refused to do! When we asked them why they don't wear gloves we were told that they wash there hands! We walked out without lunch, without speaking to the owner, and without any resolution. I have lived in this neighborhood my entire life, I will never go to this establishment again. Pretty Good Pizza We get delivery here for the firehouse occasionally. First I was stereotypical and skeptical of the quality of the pies here, because the delivery man was Chinese. =x However, their delivery is fast and their pies are pretty decent. A good amount of cheese and their toppings are generous portions. Especially for the buffalo chicken pizza. Its loaded with chicken. The grandma pie is thin, crisp and saucy like it should be. I really like the plain slices at Luigi's and most of their entree's Pizza is a tricky thing and everybody has their fancy. First I will tell you what I like in a regular New York Pizza slice and then you decide. It must be a relatively thin crust, not too thin, a bit of a doughy layer on top of the crispy crust is preferred. But most of all the bottom crust must be crispy and I like the sauce slightly sweet with a hint of basil with a nice molten cheese mixture on top. Also every New yorker knows that a fresh pie is not the best Pizza, a reheated slice gets that crust extra crispy and makes for Pizza slice perfection. So if you like what I just described, I would say Luigi's can hit those marks about 80% of the time. Sometimes the slices get doughy, sometimes they're so busy, they forget to brush clean the oven and you get these tiny charcoal pieces stuck to the bottom of your crust which I hate, but the pizza is good and if they could be a bit more regular with the pizza oven brush, it would be perfect all the time. As far as Entree's are concerned, the Penne Pollo is a great white wine sauce pasta with sun dried tomatoes, broccoli and chicken. I have tried almost every entree item and to me they all taste great and the quality of ingredients is always consistent. The Penne Ala Vodka will have you mopping up the sauce with bread and the eggplant Parmesan is really just a classic comfort food. Try the Panini's too What I like the least is their Caesar dressing, it has a clawing sour bite and a garlic vinegar note that I don't like. Compare it to the mild creamy dressing at Donovan's and you will see what I mean. Overall Luigi's is the go to place for Italian cuisine at my house. read more

I had so many people asking about the food because it was so delicious! The trays are nice and full, the food is very good quality, their pastas are amazing! My husband is obsessed with their Buffalo chicken roll. It is filled with deliciously seasoned chicken. Their garlic knots are the best of any pizzeria in the area. So robust with flavor! They must've changed something to their Sicilian...I have a family of 4, we normally don't order Sicilian because it's too much and lasts for days but we were in the mood and ordered a Sicilian from Luigis. They cut the pie into 8 (instead of 12) and so the pie looked like Digiorno slices. We've never finished a whole Sicilian pie in one sitting but we did tonight.
