Myself and a group of friends from work decided to split early from work and pay this place a visit for some sweat treats. We really did deserve to come here especially after finishing a months long project on time, and we delivered it today. Not to mention the 60+ hours of work this week. I went for the single scoop Cookie Monster ice cream, and a macchiato brew. They had one employee serving up the ice cream, and the other was ringing people up, plus helping with coffee and stuff. They were very busy, perhaps because we arrived after 6pm on this Friday. They have some tables setup on the sidewalk and even enough chairs for six people. My only issue with Lulabelle's is I want them to be open later!! My ice cream cravings always coincide with their closing hour but I finally made it there right before close. There's a ton of different candies and chocolates to shop around but I was zeroed in on the ice cream. I paid less than $6 for my scoops which is way cheaper than many other spots in the city! You can get two flavors in the small size which was clutch! Cute little sweet shop in Petworth. There's an assortment of sweets and ice cream indoors. I came in not wanting to get anything. But when I looked at the ice cream selection, I decided to treat myself with a scoop of their Cookie Monster ice cream. The staff member also let me sample some of their ice cream flavors too, which was nice of them to do. The ice cream scoop wasn't stupidly expensive, so I thought it was great value. After enjoying some hot ramen at Menya, I was seriously craving something sweet--and Lullabelle's Sweet Shop was the perfect choice. It's a great spot to poke around in before going to dinner at Timber or Menya Hosaki or one of the other destination restaurants on this strip of Upshur. I've found the staff to be friendly too! It's also much more than a sweet shop--though they serve ice cream in a case at the back, the shelves have everything from kids' activities to fancy speciality food items to fun trinkets. They also have a coffee bar with doughnuts and a cheese shop, as well as a sort of "premium general store" section up front (think interesting chips, funky chocolates, and other fun food items). The coffee Oreo ice cream is one of my favorites ever, the honey graham ice cream is also great. Definitely opt for the less "traditional" flavors, since that's where they really shine. This shop was super cute with a small variety of flavors that would satisfy any customer. The prices were reasonable and the outdoor seating was perfect on a warm summer day. I had the orange sorbet...it was really food! My friend had the cardamom ice cream which he loved. They had a few sorbets and like 6 - 8 different ice cream flavors. I appreciated that they let me try as many flavors as I liked and weren't annoyed by it at all. The service was super quick and the staff was super kind. The only reason for the 4 star is because of the inside decor. I think there's still work to be done inside to really make this place look super cute...but I'm certain that will come over time. read more

I came here on a Saturday evening, the weather was perfect for some ice cream... my husband and I saw another couple walk by with their treat and couldn't resist! The inside of Lulabelle's Sweet Shop is adorable, sweets and trinkets line the walls. The staff here were so friendly, I love the entire vibe of the shop. I ordered the Coffee Oreo, it was delicioussss! The oreo chunks tasted amazing with the coffee flavored ice cream. I am not a huge fan of coffee, but it worked with the Oreo :) Parking is a hassle, there is street parking available... but it is limited. I will definitely be back to try more flavors! I highly recommend this spot, there are several restaurants nearby so you can always stop by for dessert afterwards ;) read more

After a full dessert, my friend mentioned that he ran into this place not knowing it existed. When he metioned ice cream, I was down. Duh. I love ice cream. It's a cute little spot with outdoor seating. There's also seating inside but not a lot. There's a homey feel to this place. When you walk in, there is a variety of candy that looked expensive. I ignored those and went straight to the ice cream flavors. They may have had 8-10 flavors; I definitely should've counted. You can order a kiddie, single, or double scoop. I got a single scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough and my friend got a double scoop of strawberry. It cost about $9, so that wasn't too bad. They do offer coffee as well. As for the ice cream itself, meh. I've had better. I'm glad I checked this place out though. Always down to go to an icre cream spot. read more

The icecream is extremely flavorful, and is one of the better ice creams I have had. The taste is rich, and you can absolutely taste the flavor. The shop is small and colorful with a few chairs around. I would probably not get it with Banana Sprinkles, only because you don't taste the Sprinkles as well since the icecream flavor is really overpowering. read more

What a great little gem this shop is in the area! Finally, I do not have to make a trip downtown for artisanal ice cream. Stopped by on a Saturday night for my ice cream fix. 2 scoops for $5, I opted for the vanilla and Oreo espresso. The vanilla was rich and creamy, but the real star was the oreo espresso. The espresso is exactly what you expect. Not just coffee, but a full bodied espresso flavor sweetened by the chunks of Oreos. I must complain about the cone though. It was soggy and extremely difficult to bite. Not sure if the way they store them in an open basket, but it was a bit disappointing take away from my experience. The store itself is adorable. Reminds me of those little country stores you find with candies, trinkets, mugs and gifts. Candy is pretty pricey. $4 for a small bag of gummies, luckily the fruit flavor is strong. The cortado was also a nice treat outside of the ice cream. They have a DC gift box of 5 truffles, which for $15 is way too much and I'm not even sure if they're made on site. As a born + raised Washingtonian I have to point out that the steep prices are catered to the gentrifiers of the neighborhood and not those who have called it home for decades. You have the staple Chinese spot across the street, serving up wings and Mumbo sauce at $5 a plate and I can only imagine what the inevitable rent hike will do to their business. Also, it's left out of Lulabelle's adorable postcard of the "800 blk of Uptown business," but honey a neighborhood in DC is nothing without a Dannie's/Yums, etc. Clearly the DC the new business owners of the neighborhood envision is one without the true Washingtonians. read more

This place is like a tiny apothecary filled with very beautiful and expensive treats. There were beautiful single source chocolates and packets of pasta that looked like art. Lulabelle's is a welcome addition to Upshur Street. This adorable little sweet shop offers so much in such a cozy space: ice cream, sandwiches, coffee, baked goods, small gifts, and CANDY galore. Everytime I come here I have to talk myself out of a $7 unicorn eraser. It's only a matter of time before my children look beyond the ice cream and lollipops to the cute gifts on display... We usually come for the ice cream. A good assortment of flavors for a small place, and the quality is top notch. We have never been disappointed. What really makes this a 5 star place is the service. Everyone we have interacted with is incredibly patient and eager to please (the patience is especially noteworthy as they probably deal with a very large percentage of patrons being under the age of 10). I just wish that they had some kind of loyalty system in place (a la Ice Cream Jubilee), but that is the one and only thing I'd change in this picture-perfect place! read more

The presentation of this place is great too: great light, inviting color scheme, and really fun retro chairs to compliment the candy store theme. I'm excited for this little sweets shop on Upshur! Yesterday was just my luck because I wanted ice cream on this unseasonably warm day. And yesterday also happened to be Lulabelle's reopening day! I was pressed for time so didn't get to explore the store as much as I wanted to, but I'm happy with the ice cream choices I made. I chose the mango sorbet with the milk chocolate ice cream. (The combo sounds weird, I know, but it worked!). I expected milk chocolate to be more like a typical chocolate, but it was actually looks like chocolate chip ice cream. I learned that the ice cream is made in Baltimore. I love trying new local foods. This shop is so cute, totally instagrammable, and I can't wait to visit again soon! read more

Wow. An absolute Petworth gem; make sure to stop by here any chance you get. I honestly think that it's better than other DC shops like Jubilee and Jeni's! The shop itself is extremely cute and definitely juxtaposes it surroundings. Once you're inside, you'll be greeted with the smell of freshly baked goods that displayed on small tables in the front half. However, the real treat is the back so head straight to the ice cream case. They don't have as many flavors as more traditional flavors so don't be surprised if your favorite is missing (e.g. cookie dough). I tried the honey graham and milk chocolate. The honey graham is comparable to a cookie dough but with graham pieces instead. The quality of the ice cream is incredible; it's incredibly smooth and rich. You can tell that the fat content is extremely high (so watch out if you're dieting!). Best part is that sprinkles are free! read more

The shop is cute and gives vacation vibes. Staff was really chill.
