This may be the best location for a frozen yogurt place. Right across the street from the zoo, it's the perfect end to your day. Stopped by FroZenYo after a hot day at the zoo. Perfect location for a quick sweet treat. They had standard flavors ranging from both milk based and fruity options. The topping selection was standard but I did really enjoy the chocolate peanut butter crispy topping, reminded me of a nutter butter in the best way! Added a great crunch to the bowl. The price is definitely on the higher side compared to other froyo places. Also, they didn't offer complimentary tap water which is needed when having a sweet treat like this, only bottled water. Seating was mostly available outside with very limited seating inside. It was very hot outside so we only stayed for a couple mins and took it to go. Overall, a standard froyo spot read more

Standard flavors, standard topping. Yummy and fun but about $20 for 2 reasonably filled cups. I've been obsessed with yasso fro yo and it's so delicious but this classic tart flavor is something they are missing. So because of that these classic shops are something special still. read more

Nice treat on a warmer day! It's a small shop with typical froyo self service model. I appreciated the variety of nondairy options and went with a combo of strawberry lemonade and mango sorbets both of which were really good. I prob did a little too much with the two flavors and all the tops since it got pricey pretty quick but it was worth it after walking around all afternoon. read more

Perfect post-zoo dessert date spot! Easy self-service with a nice variety of options in both frozen yogurt and toppings. I personally enjoyed the Strawberry Lemonade mixed with Coconut frozen yogurt. One note is that there is very limited indoor seating, with one table for two inside--but there's ample seating outside. Very cute how they themed the inside with panda wall art to reflect the nearby zoo residents. read more

Nice selection of froyo flavors and ice cream. We bribed my son to walk around the zoo, instead of being carried, with ice cream. This was right outside the zoo so we stopped by here before going home. There are only two seats inside that have two seats each, not useful for a family of four. Luckily the seats outside were shaded so we grabbed one table (there are four). There were a steady stream of people getting froyo before and after us, but there were always enough seats. Enough people grab it to go. It's 85 cents per oz, which is on the more expensive side, but being there's no other options so close to the zoo they can definitely charge that price. I got tart and added mochi, chocolate chips and cookie dough. There aren't a ton of toppings, but they have all the standards. My kids got orange ice cream in sugar cones. The scoops were huge so they were happy. There's no restroom, luckily we had water to pour on napkins to wash their sticky hands. If you're going to the zoo, I'd recommend coming here instead of getting the zoo ice cream. read more

After I was introduced to this place, I could not stop coming back. It's very nostalgic to childhood and probably the only froyo place I know that's open. They have a lot of different flavors and a wide assortment of toppings. My highlights are the syrupy walnuts, popping boba, and reeses. The price is also reasonable, it's by weight but it's what I'd expect going to an ice cream place. read more

On the pricier end, their frozen yogurt does taste great with plenty of options and toppings. There are only 2 tables of seating inside, but they do have games of Jenga one can play! Outside, there are four tables to dine at. In terms of flavors, they have plenty of options with non-dairy sorbets as well (Watermelon and Mango) and one of the coolest topping bars with an angled mirror showing all the toppings from above. Its proximity to the Smithsonian Zoo is quite helpful, especially on warm summer days. read more

Such a great frozen yogurt spot. The place was super clean and the yogurt was really good with lots of solid options. What really stood out though was how nice the owner was. My phone was completely dead and they went out of their way to help me find a charger so I could charge it, which I really appreciated. Popped in yesterday afternoon after a quick visit to the zoo. Wasn't familiar with the area and my small family and I were famished. We saw a sign at this location advertising fries, chicken wings and tenders so we ordered. Hot food at a frozen yogurt spot? We ordered wing and chicken tender platters. There was a small issue internally which caused a delay in our food but the food was quite tasty, well cooked and they provided decent servings. The place was clean and the counter person was courteous. It was a very nice surprise to find some quick hot food at a frozen yogurt spot! The froyo was quite enticing but we didn't have time-we were in a rush and had. Along drive ahead of us. Definitely stop by this spot if you are in the Area. The taste of the frozen yogurts, and selection of toppings was great. I had chocolate and cake batter, and I'd get both again in a heartbeat. The issue was the machines... you'd pull the lever and everything came flying out. Thank goodness the kind soul behind the counter understood and let me scoop out some of what I didn't want. That's sad because it was wasteful, but I didn't want 15 dollars worth of frozen yogurt! I'd give it five stars if the machines were fixed! read more

Frozen yogurt places often have these self serve machines which you pull the lever and fill your cone or cup. I like getting things myself. Sometimes this isn't always a good thing. A lot of times yogurt machines are broken. They also seem to be expensive for a portion. I thought it would be nice to come in on a hot day to get a cup. It has a very good location. We had just been walking around the zoo. Everything there is a ripoff so we waited until we got somewhere else. This was not any better and in fact was more expensive than many things at the zoo. I had a cup of the watermelon sorbet. This can be topped with many things like cookies, fruit, and whatever. It's about $7 for a large cup. They weigh it after you put everything on, so be careful and watch yourself. Simply sprinkling on a few things makes it much heavier. The stuff isn't even that good and nothing special. Be careful how much you fill a cone or cup. It seems like a ripoff. Toppings are mostly dried up. read more

I've tried other DDL lattes from other coffee shops around the city and this one is by far the best. It's good hot and iced. The seasonal strawberry matcha is also very good. This place is great for the seasonal drinks and gelato flavors using local ingredients. My absolute favorite seasonal flavor is the Blackberries and Cream gelato. I ate it so much last summer that I could see the color of the gelato get darker as the season progressed and as the berries reached their peak. I got a few hand packed pints to keep in the freezer but they didn't last long. The mascarpone & berries is my favorite classic flavor. I've been to every Dolcezza location in DC and my favorite is the DuPont location. The baristas are chill and somehow their drinks taste better than the other locations. Not sure how that's possible but I notice a difference. I think it has something to do with how the drink order is entered at the register. At another location, I noticed my DDL latte was entered as a latte with DDL syrup and it was noticeably off. Not sweet at all. When I asked the barista he said there was no DDL button but at DuPont the drink is perfect every time. I'm not usually focused on nitpicking but if I'm paying $10 for a coffee, I expect the taste to be consistent regardless of location. Back to DuPont. This location has decent seating but definitely isn't appropriate for longer study sessions during busy times. There's a large communal table and bar style seating along the front window that is great for people watching (or construction watching). It's conveniently located, about a 10 minute walk away from the DuPont metro. Is Dolcezza expensive? Yes. Will I continue to use my discretionary income on $10 coffee and gelato. Yes, because it makes me happy and it's an act of self care.

The Ice Cream As a Wisconsinite, I am a bit of an ice cream and custard snob being from the dairy state! While it doesn't quite match up to Wisconsin's Custard (IYKYK), I will say it was good ice cream and definitely tasted better than some I've had in other states. This made the spontaneous stop worth it. They offer several fantastic flavors of hand dipped ice cream. I ordered the salted caramel in a cake cone. The ice cream was really good. The guy who helped us was really nice, gave us a few samples, and then we both ordered two scoops. He didn't ask if we wanted a cone, just gave us a cup. I don't know if they even have cones. We had each selected two flavors, and after I was about halfway through mine, I realized that I only had one flavor. Too late to say anything. I had difficulty paying with inKind because I didn't realize that the minimum spend before tax and tip was $25. I bought a pint to get there, then it worked. Luckily the next day I noticed that I was double charged, $37.50 on my credit card (I was completely unaware, first time it happened on Apple Pay when I didn't know I had authorized a charge) as well as the charge by inKind. The employee had been nice so I tipped $5 which frankly I think is quite high especially since their prices already are high. $40 for two ice creams and a pint?! But seriously, didn't he see that my credit card had been charged? They must've been able to see it but I could not. I thought the ice cream was just OK. Honestly, for me not worth the calories. Beware, they sell pints for $12.50, which comes to $16.25/pint including tax and tip. Their pints were just on sale at Whole Foods for $3.99 but they're usually about $6. So in the store, they sell pints for around double the price at Whole Foods. I also didn't like the pint flavor - caramelized banana honeycomb sounds better than it tastes. The ingredients look pretty good so it could be the "natural flavor" which gives it a weird taste. FWIW natural flavors are anything but natural, it can be any combination of hundreds of chemicals. When I saw the double charge, I called my credit card company, which was a pain because they didn't just remove it like I thought they would, I had to file a dispute. I emailed Van Leeuwen and explained what had happened, that I had spent well over an hour on three different calls with the credit card company and apparently it was going to take about a month. They were very nice, credited back the double charge without the 30 day wait but they did not offer anything by way of making it right. I thanked them, and when they replied - happy to help, hope you'll come again soon I said tbh I'm not planning to after all of that hassle. With all of the great competition in Georgetown, that's shortsighted. If a customer has a negative experience in your store, it's just good business to give them a reason to come again. I don't like their flavors, they seem to combine about four different flavors in one which doesn't seem to work well. I'm going to stick with Thomas Sweet, IMO it's far better.
