What a beautiful small chocolate shop this, stopped in to get a gift for a friend. As I walked in I was greeted by a nice lady behind the counter, she offer me a sample. It was dark chocolate sea salt caramel, omg it was love at first bite!!!! I'm normally a milk chocolate girl, well this chocolate was the best I have ever tried. Needless to say I purchase a few boxes, two for me and one for a friend. I saw these roses and couldn't pass them up, not only are they so perfectly made, but they're only $4.50. After which they moved their operations to Carmel-by-the-Sea in 2004 and have been a mainstay of the community with two locations in Carmel-by-the-Sea and one in Monterey. Hands down, Lula's is some of the best chocolate that I've had lately! Lula's offers so many different types of chocolate and chocolate candy apples that I was in heaven the minute I walked through the door. The sea salt caramels are the best I've ever had. The hand-dipped, small batch caramels were so delicious and are available in many different sized boxes. I'm definitely picking up a few boxes before I go home! The store is beautiful and inviting and the sales staff was very kind and knowledgable. We love the caramels, sea salt caramels, and especially the chocolate witches for Halloween. The 3rd item & the 7th item we did not even look at. The seventh item on our receipt was for a candle! They didn't even have any candles for sale that we saw! I stopped in on a day trip to Carmel and was captivated by these truffles. The staff was helpful and offered us samples of sea salt caramels and mint truffles. I have tried a lot of truffles, but I was seriously blown away by these. They were rich and creamy, but not cloyingly sweet. We also left with the wine truffle box. The wine truffles were soo delicious. The store also had beautiful cards from a local artist, which I'd been looking for. Everything was a reasonable price point and well worth it. Such a cute shop! The lady working there was so friendly and fun to chat with, and we were offered samples of caramels when we walked in. FOOD: Again, it's all amazing. My favorites are the dark chocolate turtles, the dark chocolate rocky road, and the dark chocolate peanut brittle (do you see a pattern here?). SERVICE: Incredible. Obviously as the headquarters they have a passion for their product. But more impressive is selling isn't their trade but they are helpful, patient, and more than willing to help. We got the wine truffles and regular truffles from this store while visiting Carmel. We tried the wine truffles, and truly regretted not getting a bigger box! They are delicious. I honestly can't speak about the chocolates but their sea salt caramels are amazing! I recently went to Carmel and stopped by Lulas, they are known for their caramels and chocolates! I bought a small bag and a sampler bag of caramels and upon opening them .... you are hit with a wave of sugar and butter! The caramels have specks of flaky sea salt and are incredibly buttery and soft! They have the perfect chew without being overly sticky! I'm not an expert in caramels but I do feel like these are some of the best caramels I've ever tasted! Next time I'm back on Carmel, I'm buying more of these caramels! Total: $12 read more

These chocolates were so delicious I'm still dreaming about them! We stopped in here for my bachelorette party as we were sobering up for a moment before popping into the next wine tasting room. My sister who was a Carmel local at the time, immediately insisted I not only try a chocolate, but take an entire box on my honeymoon..well twist my arm but I guess I'll have to eat all this delicious salted caramel chocolate. The store is beautifully decorated with delicately wrapped packages adorning the tables, glass jars of toffees and caramels, all accented with an ocean theme. It has a lovely boutique feel and the branding looks very high end. These would absolutely be a great gift to take to any party. We enjoyed our chocolates my crew bought us and I did in fact remember to pack the gifted box on my honeymoon. While in Fiji I learned the husband hates caramel.. oh calamity.. a whole box of sea salt caramel and no one to share it with.. as a wife must always do I took the dirty job and finished off the whole box for him. I was expecting something like See's where I can select my pieces but it's all pre-packaged. Not a big deal, just an FYI. Depending on which box you choose, pieces run around $2-3. However, I haven't had one I am disappointed in yet. They also offer a great variety so you can get truffles, caramels, assortment, etc. The one thing I would pass on was a piece of English toffee for about $8. I did like it but not nearly as much as the regular chocolates. Definitely better quality than a lot of similar places, so worth checking out. read more

I pulled up at The Crossroads to visit River Hill Books next door. Well, it just so happened that I'd been tangling with a chocolate craving for the entire 3-hour drive north, so I snuck in to see what they had to offer. It's another lovely store in this shopping area, small but with just enough room to display all their homemade chocolates and treats. The displays were really tastefully arranged with little cards showing the names and prices. It was just before Halloween so there was plenty of themed candy, including some adorable hollow pumpkin-shaped chocolates. There were a range of things on offer from expensive truffles to more affordable, simpler kinds. I opted for a chocolate-covered marshmallow in the shape of a ghost, around $5, which was delicious. The mallow was fairly firm and very chewy, a good consistency, and the milk chocolate was good. I also bought a bag of drinking chocolate - essentially shaved milk chocolate - which looks like it'll be good for around 10 servings. I haven't tried it yet, but have designs on a red wine hot chocolate recipe I found online. Overall a really cute store, good chocolates, lovely presentation, and I wish I'd tried the truffles. read more

The caramels and nut clusters are my favorite, although I could have bought out the entire shop. I am afraid to buy more boxes of chocolates directly for "other people" as gifts because I think they are likely to stay in my home and be consumed entirely by me; good thing you can order online. The boxes we brought back home did not last long. Imagine my sad guy when he asked "Where are the chocolates?" and I said, "I ate them all and now our Carmel vacation food baby lives with us right here in San Bruno." Yes they are a bit pricey BUT they are worth it. Their chocolates and caramels are delicious and I don't even like caramel usually. Their confections are sweet but not overly so. I tried the toffee for the first time today and it was delish! Now is the perfect time to enjoy their hot cocoa with their homemade marshmallows, soooo good.
