This place was massive. There was a huge gift shop inside and a patio outside that overlooks the ocean. There was live music as well. We came for dinner one evening and it was packed. The wait was really long so we explored the restaurant while we waited. There was an area by the patio where you could even get your hair braided....It was definitely an interesting place. The server was really nice, and took our orders quickly. The food took a while but it was good. Everything tasted ok, not great but ok. Honestly, way overhyped when it comes to the food. We had a party of 8 that was seated pretty much immediately. They had all the garage-style doors open, which is absurd for July in Alabama, so it was blazing hot and humid and stuffy. I will say that the whole staff was great. Super nice, attentive, never let our drinks get empty which is impressive for a party of 8 at dinner time on a busy Saturday evening! The food though, nope. The fries came out cold. Like not even a little bit warm. Me and my daughter both got the bbq pulled pork sandwich: buns were hard as a rock, meat was very dry and there was barely any bbq sauce on it. One of my twins has multiple severe food allergies so eating out is not something we frequently do. And if we do, is very nerve wrecking and I'm always on high alert . Well... my sister in law found this gem . They were very allergy friendly and accommodating. To the point where I can shed a tear of relief and wish every restaurant was like this. Once I told the waitress we had a child with food allergies she wrote it down and 2 mins later someone else came to us and asked us about her allergies and brought a special allergy menu. Courtney was our bartender and she did a great job, very friendly, attentive, funny, and pleasure to speak with and it was just her second day on the job. We had a very disappointing experience last night after several good experiences in the past. We understand wait times can be long especially with large parties, but after over an hour and a half of waiting we were begrudgingly sat. There was no communication regarding potential short staff or long kitchen ticket times. Once sat we waited over an hour for our food, which came out cold. The waitress ignored our table during the long wait and blamed our cold food on our large party. With decent communication we would have ordered more drinks and appetizers. LuLu's used to be one of our go-to's on vacation. We loved stopped in for a tuna dip and cold land shark or crazy sista ale. Our first mistake was going on a super hot day. It was in the 90s outside, and the restaurant is primarily open air. There wasn't much of a breeze, and I noticed by the thermostat by the bathroom that it was 88 degrees inside the restaurant. We were all miserable and my toddler was cranky! I have to give it to our server, he was amazing and the heat didn't phase him. He brought us waters as he introduced himself which was a huge relief. The tuna dip recipe seems to have changed and was very chunky with onions. I liked it, but my husband who doesn't like onions was turned off by it. I got the tuna melt nachos and they were delicious. My husband got the fish tacos and they were noticeably spicier than usual. And we like spicy, normally we add lulus red hot sauce to the fish tacos but these were just too spicy to enjoy. Started off with lime and strawberry smoothies. This was a very pleasant non-alcoholic offering as several people in the party do not drink. Next up was crab dip and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. It'll both were crowd pleasers. The horseradish-mustard style dip (wow sauce?) was a hit with the tomato lovers. For a party of 10 our apps and entrees came out fairly quickly, I never thought I was waiting too long. This place definitely caters to kids. The outside is all sand and there are a lot of toys and activities for little ones to keep them occupied. The fried crab claws were to die for! They were so cute, flavorful, and fun to snack on. We also had the onion rings and nachos as an app and everyone was pleased. I got the half and half combo. You can do so much with this. If you choose fish you can choose the type of fish, fried or baked with different seasonings. However the fries and hushpuppies were definitely cold. Which is fine because I was so full from the apps I just wanted the protein part but just be aware that those felt like they have been sitting out for a while. My allergic sisters enjoyed their meals even though it's not something they would enjoy eating but it smelled and tasted flavorful! We had empty cups for quite a while until another waiter brought us water after we stopped him and asked for some water refills. As for the food, negative 1. Nothing had a good taste to it.
