Lulu's is a cool and tasty restaurant on the downtown farmer's market. I've been before, but today we were there for a party of 7. The food was pretty good, and I would have rated it higher, but the service was not good. Firstly, the music was very loud. It was hard to talk to each other in our booth, and when we asked our waitress if it could get turned down, she gave us a bit of a snarky answer that was basically a decline of our request. Our waitress is the other reason I docked them points for this visit. I'm not sure she ever introduced herself to us by name, so unfortunately I can't pinpoint who she was. Regardless, she did not take care of us with kindness. When we asked for basic things like water, it seemed like an inconvenience for her. She didn't tell us about the specials. We had to aggressively snag her to order more drinks. Several members of our party commented on her attitude independently. The food seemed to take a really long time to come out. It was good once we got it, but it seemed like it took forever. When we left there were TONS of plates ready and waiting to go out on the back counter, but for whatever reason the food wasn't moving anywhere. It seems this place lacks organization and structure. The corned beef hash was great- BIG chunks of corned beef, even bigger potatoes. My egg was a little under my preference- the whites weren't set at all. The chorizo frittata was "amazeballs" per the hubs. Red Velvet waffle was also pretty good. The biscuits were good but nothing to write home about. At this point, I don't think I'd go back, and I'd only recommend it to the right crowd. There are tons of great brunch places in town without the attitude. read more

I've been going to Lulus for years. My dad came in from DC and wanted to go to the best breakfast so of course I took him here. Our server, Anna messed up our order and then when it came time for the check she charged us for items we had not received. And then to make things worse, as we were speaking with the manager I realize that there are onions and tomatoes IN MY HOT CHOCOLATE and yall...as I'm realizing this our server says "oh I had the hot chocolate beside the pico and felt it fall in"...yall this was the WORST experience. She KNEW what she did before even bringing me the hot chocolate. I love Lulus but beware of this server. Pay attention to your food. Unfortunately, I'll never be able to eat here again :/ read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch with a group and it was super busy ( make sure you make a reservation before). Our server was really nice and very attentive. I order the red velvet waffles which were amazing along with the house potatoes. We made a reservation for this restaurant and were automatically told that we couldn't sit inside with our service dogs by the host, Andrea. Although one did not have a service dog harness, the other did and Andrea whispered to the other host that she did not believe they are service dogs. It is unlawful for a person to automatically deny service. We have the paperwork and we're ready to show it to them, and did but the host said "ok fine whatever". We were brought to our seats and were rudely seated. However our server, Whitley was very nice and sweet, as she brought water to the dogs and accommodated our dietary restrictions. read more

Went here for breakfast on Sunday for the first time! I got the huevos rancheros. I just felt like the portion size was way too big, I ate half and felt like my stomach was going to explode. My friends felt the same way about their meals and they got different things. Service was very good and super friendly. Also feel like it was a bit pricey. One entree was $12. Me and my friend went to lulus yesterday for the first time and it was completely horrible . Staff and service was slow, when we finally got our food it was cold , my shrimp and grits were extremely watery like a soup it was gross ....we had no forks so all we did was look at the food but couldn't eat it , eventually we got the manager to actually be able to get "hot" food I wouldn't go back nor recommend , it's really not as hyped up as people say it is , I think they have potential but they need to do better as far as time and serving is concerned read more

This is a great place if you're in the brunch mood. All the employees were nice, and the style was alternative and eclectic (which I adore). If you're worried about the cost of the mimosas, fear not -- they're served in full-size and particularly large glasses. Worth every cent. This place hands down one has one of the best brunch menus in town. I've had their Shrimp & Grits, Red Velvet Chicken and Waffles, and today I tried my new favorite menu item - Chicken and a Biscuit (pictured). The meal was incredible. The chicken perfectly crispy but still juicy, flavorful sausage gravy, all on a flakey biscuit with a side of seasoned potatoes and scrambled eggs. Be aware, if you are asked if you'd like cheese with your eggs, it's $1 extra - they don't inform you of that until you get your checks. All in all, a wonderful staple of this lovely city. read more

When I saw the pics of the velvet waffles on their page, I thought it was a hoax. I had to go to LuLu's to see this first hand for myself. There was no wait and the staff was very friendly. It's a small cute restaurant in the upcoming shock bottom of Richmond, VA. I finally put my order in. The mimosa was ok. I received my food very quickly with a wait of no more than 10 minutes or less. I finally received my Red Velvet Waffles. I do not like strawberries but they had a strawberry mix sauce on the waffles that taste like HEAVEN! The waffles came with maple syrup and cream cheese sauce on the side. The RED VELVET WAFFLES ARE MAGICAL!! If I died today..my tummy would be truly satisfied with this being my last meal on earth! The RED VELVET WAFFLES ARE AMAZING!! I have been to to this restaurant a few times and never in my life have I experienced anything like this.... there was a 30 min wait to dine inside, my guest and I agreed to wait. we asked one of the hostess politely if we could wait in the 2 seat designated waiting area and we were told it was fine. Very quickly another hostess rudely stated that we couldn't sit there that we would have to wait outside. Which didn't make any since because if I wanted to wait outside for 30 minutes I would have chosen to dine outside. Needless to say I felt as an African American women I was already being treated unfairly and made to wait in the 99 degree heat even though my guess and I both had mask. Despite this we waited. We were told that we could order drinks from the bar, we turn to the bar and then was redirected to the bar outside where we were then told we couldn't be served any bar drinks just water and tea even though there was champagne and bloody Mary's right there in sight. We didn't argue we politely asked for sweet tea, of which was served to us but was not sweet at all. Finally after waiting we were told we could come inside were I then slipped and hurt my ankle and knee. In doing so I split my drink and in order to get up I had to sit my drink down on the floor to brace myself to stand, of course no one would help me up it was like I was a Leper. I limped to the table where the hostess followed me with the drink that spilt n was on the floor and sat it on the table for me to finish instead of bringing me a fresh drink. Still I didn't make a scene or cause a fuss... our server came to the table with a painters/ chemical mask on , which I can understand you wanting to protect yourself in the mist of a pandemic, but we could not understand anything she said. I asked if they had "sweet" tea she said yes, I asked for a fresh sweet tea since my last cup had been on the floor, she brings me back the tea and it is still not sweet . We order our food. I knew I wanted the biscuits and gravy because I had had it before, my guest orders the French toast with a side of bacon. The waiter brings out the food. My eggs are not fried they are practically sunnyside up with a very runny yoke, the gravy had too much pepper and the chicken was barely done, all of which came served on a cracked plate. All the other times I've gone every waitress has asked how I wanted my eggs Shelly did not. The French toast came deconstructed. I asked the waiter again now for a 3rd time for sweet tea she says sure and brings out a liquid sweetener to my surprise. If I wanted to sweeten my own tea I would have asked for plain tea with sugar on the side. I asked her about the eggs stating I didn't order sunnyside up eggs and she so rudely told me that " this is what's it's served with" but if I wanted to order more eggs I could. I declined and asked for the check. at this point I was completely disappointed and just want to leave as quickly as my hurt body would allow me... idk if the service has changed in due to all of the social issues, covid19 or BLM movement but what ever the case is I will not be returning to lulu's I would rather spend my money somewhere I would be treated with Decency and common curtesy. Found this little gem on our way to NC for vacation. Best little brunch spot. The staff killed themselves to safely seat and serve customers. Masks were worn by all staff and seating adequately adhered to safe guidelines. The food was absolutely incredible! I enjoyed the chorizo frittata. The chorizo was so flavorful and the portion size was quite large. My husband and brother in law both got the chicken and red velvet waffles. The chicken was so flavorful and the waffle had a cake like texture to it. My son enjoyed strawberries and avocado mash with toast. The avocado mash was so fresh! We sat down and Daria came up immediately and treated us with a huge smile on her face. She was excellent from beginning to end and had a wonderful spirit. I ordered the beef hash as per reccomendation. This is not a dish I would normally order but it was absolutely delicious. The hollandaise was exquisite and the brisket was tender and flavorful. Was so looking forward to my visit since it's been quite some time. Not too pleased with out waitres who spent more time at the bar talking to the guys that were flirting with her. It took 2x asking her about our cocktail orders. Finally, she took our food orders, I had Shrimp and Grits and my friend had the Corned Beef Hash. When the food go to the table, my S&G were swimming in onions and green peppers, about 3 shrimp total. My friend, his CBH was way salty and fried potatoes could have been mashed potatoes. The bacon was not cooked too well, sent back. Another friend of mine ordered the French Toast which looked way smaller than it has in the past. When they brought our silverware, dude sat 3 bent forks on the table...sent them back and he had attitude! I've always experienced good service and good food at LL's. Have been wanting to try brunch here for a long time but always seem to avoid going downtown. We had a reservation which I think is key, without one the wait would be ridiculous. The atmosphere is busy and noisy and tables are right next to eachother. This is somewhat typical of downtown Richmond brunch spots but is the reason I took off a star. I like being able to eat without someone bumping into me every couple of minutes. Now, onto the food. I ordered the chicken and biscuits and the red velvet waffle strawberry shortcake. The biscuits were fluffy and covered with yummy sausage gravy which could have used a bit more black pepper but still good. The chicken was flavorful and not dry and everything was drizzled with honey. It was served with scrambled eggs and country potatoes. The eggs were good, a lot of places mess up scrambled eggs but these were fluffy and great! The potatoes were good but nothing to write home about. The red velvet shortcake was good, I don't really believe in red velvet but I do believe in strawberry shortcake. I wish there were more strawberries but the cream cheese filling was good. The only reason this place gets stars is because the food is good. The service was terrible. We sat at our table for an 11:45 reservation at noon. Made reservations at Lulu's at 2:45 on a Sunday and when we got there there were no tables for us, however the hostess and manager went out of their way to make sure we would get in in time for brunch since we had a reservation. Had to make the reservation pretty late due to my parents getting into town later but I recommend getting there before 2:30pm. The kitchen had run out of potatoes which was kind of a bummer, I think we were all looking forward to some breakfast potatoes but the wait staff and manager let us know that we could substitute with basically anything we wanted. If you're a bloody Mary fan definitely get the Chesapeake Bloody! It was way more flavorful than the jalapeño, so skip that and get the Chesapeake, it won't disappoint. Three of us ordered the fried chicken and red velvet waffles with a biscuit instead of the potatoes, it also came with gravy and scrabbled eggs. Everything was amazing, couldn't recommend it more, the chicken was literally perfect, I could've eaten just the chicken. BUT the waffles were so good too, perfect combination. If you happen to run into the issue of no potatoes definitely get a biscuit, it was definitely home made and just so perfect with the gravy. My brother was recently visiting from out of town. After our adventures on Saturday night we were thinking about where we could have brunch the next morning to fuel us up for our next set of adventures. The spot we landed on was Lulu's. A go-to in Richmond for brunch. The hype did not disappoint. We got to Lulus a little after 9. There was a decent size crowd, but the restaurant was not full. It had a comfy, but hip vibe. The service was prompt. I had my liquid necessities of black coffee, water and mimosa almost immediately. After some thought, my brother decided to go with the eggs Benedict and I went with the omelet. The food was not over done, or over the top. The food delivered exactly as it stated on the menu, which I can appreciate. My plate was not overwhelmed with breakfast potatoes, and my omelet was not watery or stuffed to the point of it being unappealing. The food was fresh and exactly what we needed for the day. Half way through eating I finally decided to take a look around the restaurant again, and it was packed! There was a definite wait, but at no point did we feel rush. I will be back to indulge in the Red Velvet Waffles. read more

Our waitress told us she was "just trying to make money" and then proceeded to bring us our check and to go boxes when we still had half our food on our plates and 3/4 of our mimosas left. We had not asked for to go boxes *NOR* the check. After feeling rushed and like a burden, our waitress came back after 2 minutes of leaving the check on the table and picked it up to see if it was ready. After we gave her our cards she stared at us at the bar until we left. Overall, I would not go here. The food was good, but it is not worth the price and especially not worth the service. Brunch is supposed to be enjoyed, not a chore. But if you do go, get the red velvet waffles, they're dank. read more
