Unfortunately, my experience at The Benedict in Chester, Virginia, was extremely disappointing. The service was incredibly slow, and the food and drinks were nowhere near worth the hype. I ordered an espresso martini (that I had to return), eggs, turkey bacon, and an English muffin. The eggs were overcooked and lacked any freshness. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits and described them as completely unseasoned. The grits tasted like plain white grits with shrimp simply placed on top, rather than a flavorful, savory dish. Another friend ordered a burger, which arrived overcooked with burnt buns. Overall, everything tasted as though it had been prepared ahead of time and left sitting on a hot plate or reheated in an oven before being served. Nothing tasted freshly made, and the quality simply did not match the reputation or expectations. Very friendly staff. Wife's chicken Benedict (Queen Mary) was quite good. I'm a bit of a Benedict connoisseur; I had the regular Benedict. First of all, when Benedict is in the very name of the restaurant, you expect a pretty epic Benedict. It was good, but not a "top Benedict" to my palate. The ham was very salty as opposed to a Canadian Bacon style. The eggs were over-poached. The hollandaise makes or breaks a Benedict dish. It was OK; personally, I prefer some paprika (I saw none) and a bit more lemon. Overall, a bit more boldness is preferred in my hollandaise. The biscuit it was served on was good. For coffee style drinks, this place only has coffee. As a breakfast joint, they need to invest in a high-end Italian espresso machine to make legit coffees, espressos, cappuccinos, latte drinks, etc. My coffee was served in a dirty (lipstick stained) cup. I spun it 180 to drink from the other side. They also have bar drinks that look good. My wife had a bloody mary that was fine. The policy is an automatic 20% gratuity added to all checks. That's OK, but staff should tell you. I saw it on the menu. It's on the receipt, but if you're not paying attention, you could accidentally tip 40-45%. They made no mention of it. I NEVER add additional tip in such cases if the server does not tell me. If they do, I add 5-7% additional depending on the level of service. Overall... It was just alright. By far one of the worst sit down restaurant experiences I've ever had. - the wait for a clean table/bar seat was extremely long - the cleanliness of the bar area was disgusting. There were empty juice containers taking up counter space and the bar tender spent more time looking for supplies/clean glasses then making the drinks. - for the price, the food was underwhelming. Catching up over some pretty good food, I opted for their traditional breakfast where you can choose from a variety of proteins, sides and bread. I had high hopes for The Benedict when I looked at the menu. I ordered the eggs benedict with crabcake and fried green tomatoes. My husband ordered the French Toast. Both were featured entrees. We waited a long time for our food to arrive and when it did it looked great. I cut into a perfectly cooked poached egg and dipped it in the hollandaise sauce, when I tasted it I realized the Hollandaise was refrigerator cold. Uck!! I tried the other side of the plate and the sauce there was a bit warmer from the heat from the crabcake and the fried tomatoes. I would have sent it back but we had to be somewhere and who knows how long it would have taken. We were 45 minutes in at this point. My husband's French toast was two thick slices - one of which was the end of the loaf which he found very hard to cut. French Toast Jerky! Our waiter never checked on us or came near our table. We had to find him to get our check by going to the bar and then upon examining the bill realized a 20% tip had been automatically added to our check. No signs to that effect. Best brunch experience in a while! New restaurants can sometimes be hit or miss but the Benedict definitely impressed my friends and I. The host sat us quickly and Avery our server was awesome. I had the garden party and my friends had other prosecco cocktails. Everyone loved them and they were so reasonably priced. I ate the seaside salmon cakes which were delicious. My friends had the catfish Benedict, French toast and the build your own breakfast. One friend ordered a side of bacon which prompted another to order it too. They couldn't get over the thickness. We had no clue this restaurant recently opened up about 2 weeks ago, we found it on tiktok. We came during brunch hours and it wasnt a long wait, but I believe they close at 3 so don't get there too late. The food was really good and the drink I ordered, added shot of tequila, was good. Me: "OH THIS IS LICKAAA!" Lol. Only two things for feedback, possibly work on increasing volume of the music because they had some hits but it wasn't really easy to hear and the menu for BYOB meat options, possibly add (+$5) next to the options that ate an up-charge. Just visited the new Benedict on Cary, brought to you by the owners of MaryLous and Black Olive and I have to tell you about the two stars of the brunch show for me. The whole vibe is bright and welcoming, but listen...the menu is stacked with lots of delicious options but in the spirit of not over doing it lol I settled on a classic. Star number one: BYO breakfast sandwich with the most incredible thick-cut bacon. So good. The biscuit on this sandwich was so buttery and fluffy, it practically melted in my mouth. The Monte Cristo was different but tasty. We had fried potatoes as a side but they were more like scalloped potatoes and not my favorite. And star number two? The vanilla espresso martini. There was not in any check up on refills, mo napkins and had to ask for silverware which was given plastic ware. The total bill was 89 dollars for a meal that I didn't even enjoy with my son and grand princess. My grand daughter didn't even eat her pancakes which is her favorite. Very disappointed with the food, service and lack of management at this establishment. The most important thing for any restaurant to get right is the staff. The service and attitude from everyone was perfect: everyone was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the food and drink options. Second, the food and they do NOT disappoint you in any way. While each of the dishes are tweaked to a degree, it's all for our benefit and especially our enjoyment. Finally, the environment is bright and inviting. You won't get confused with being in Miami Beach but the colors, murals, trim, et al., will make your dining experience an enjoyable one. And that's before you try their patio seating. My only critique would be that some of those enjoyable tweaks are, well, a lot. A side of bacon is cut super thick. The taste is great and the size is ample but unless you are interested in a crap-ton of SALTY bacon cutlets (OK, just two but still), it may be a lot. Hours are 11-3 I believe and we got there a little after 1pm so not a long window so plan accordingly.Me and my mom decided to pop in on Sunday before our movie date for brunch and a cocktail. We are always looking for a new spot for breakfast & we're excited to see The Benedict open up! I always have to try the shrimp & grits when I check out a new place. The addition of lobster & the Cajun cream sauce really made this dish shine. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered the biscuits & gravy. I am particular about gravy & this is some of the most meaty & flavorful I've had. Paired with a fluffy biscuit & perfectly cooked eggs...it was difficult to leave one bite left on the plate. We also tried the cornbread waffle & a size of corned beef hash. The hash was standard, but they grilled it up a bit and that small detail elevated the ordinary. The waffle had a wonderful texture that we enjoyed very much. The house made Bloody Mary mix has a nice tang, with a slight peppery kick. I definitely recommend visiting The Benedict on Cary. The place is still finding itself a bit. The food is good, the space seems generally well laid out. Like most places in RVA, it could benefit from some sound / acoustic deadening- rugs, soft wall panels, etc. Our server seemed great, just incredibly busy. The kitchen was backed up and we were given plastic cutlery (which we noticed wasn't the case for other tables) so I have to assume it was simply due to being understaffed for a rush of customers. The pricing is a little higher- think dinner prices for brunch food-- but that is true of a lot of places downtown. A 20% gratuity is included in the check. Food was decent, I am sure when they aren't swamped it's better. The eggs benedict included a fluffy biscuit, southern country ham (not the Canadian variety), poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Delicious!
