We came to Luma with about 12 people for dinner and our server was Francisco. Francisco's attentiveness/service is second to none, and he does it with a smile and is always polite. Bobby also was great with children in our party and gave them some toys to play with. My wife and I had a lovely time at Luma's. Situated on the Petaluma River, in charming mid-town Petaluma. The atmosphere was delightful. The food was unique and very favorable to taste. There was a nice variety of creative refreshing drinks. The live music was very nice, although it was a bit conflicting with table conversation, and I might advise that the musicians simply turn the volume down a bit, otherwise quite entertaining. Our waiter was polite and very accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed Bobby, who gave a nice Italian presence to the ambiance with his warm demeanor and wit. The dessert was a nice balance of baking and cream, with two Port wines. Perfect final touch to a well orchestrated dinner out. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Lauma's for your special night out. read more

Mother's Day - the worst day of the year to show up without a reservation. My daughter had made a reservation at another great local restaurant, but my 2 yr old grandaughter wasn't amenable at the time, so we had to keep moving forward. To my surprise, we were welcomed in, seated in a lounge area that was perfect for the 3 of us. The best Bloody Marys with a smoked oyster and a pickled carrot - delicious Muffaletta sandwiches and fantastic fries. Thank you, Luma, for a wonderful experience! Loved having lunch here with family post Christmas. Lots of great menu choices- flatbread, burgers, panini and salads. The steak fries were amazing! Fresh drinks were delicious and I loved my Knucklehead red ale. The setting was lovely and open. Definitely a find in a bit of a strip mall shopping area. I love the concept of this restaurant and had such high expectations, but they weren't met. First the good things. The wines by the glass were quite nice. Geoffrey, our server, was topnotch and personable, and all the workers there were very friendly and helpful. The total do-over of the inside is aesthetically pleasing and I particularly loved the light wood tables, though there's something weird about how the chairs fit, which makes for an unbalanced seating, as someone else here also mentioned. Now the not so great: The food. There were three of us so we ordered nine dishes from the four categories (starters, appetizers, mains and desserts). The pasta in fava leaf pesto was a stand out -- that was exceptional, and I wish I had ordered it. My friends LOVED the hush puppies, though they were too sweet for me, and the friend who ordered the blanc mange thought that was excellent and particularly enjoyed its citrusy flavor. The olives were also very tasty. Everything else -- the steak fries with remoulade, local greens salad (with grapes?!), white bean soup, trumpette mushroom risotto and apple crumble with vegan ice cream were just okay. This place is much too expensive for the majority of the food to be just okay. I'll give Luma a try again in the summer when more veggies will be in season and the patio along the river will be more inviting, but for now, the kitchen needs to work on making the food considerably more enticing to match all the other attributes of the restaurant. read more

beautiful dishes - great combination of visuals, textures and flavors. nice setting - a bit "industrial chic" with a high ceiling. the service was very warm and friendly. the fried polenta came out a bit cold at first; it wasn't bad, when we asked they came back with it much hotter - transformed from good to amazing! crispy/crunchy outside with a creamy interior - awesome. will be back to sample more for sure read more

Tried this place for lunch shortly after it opened and liked it fine but returned again last night and was blown away. I had the house made gnocchi with wood fired mushrooms as my main it it was far and away the best version of gnocchi I've ever eaten. My companion really enjoyed Luma's take on the Stemple Creek burger. I believe the owner/chef is connected to the sorely missed Thistle Meats, so standards are predictably high. The owner was there to greet diners last night, which added a really nice touch, and his commitment to creating something special and different in Petaluma really comes across in the menu. There is an interesting and extensive appetizer menu, with an emphasis tinned fish, or "conservas" -- we're not talking canned grocery store sardines but something more akin to what you might find at a tapas bar in Barcelona. Interesting cocktails, too. My only complaint was the '70s throwback band from the place across the river, which was pretty loud and detracted from the otherwise sophisticated ambiance. Next time I come (which will be soon), it will be during the week. read more

Geoffrey is someone who we would invite for Thanksgiving. He was so beyond kind, fun and clearly LOVES working here as he has such passion in what he does that they are lucky to have him. We've eaten twice at Luma and the food and drinks have been exciting, creative and delicious! It's also a beautiful space, and the extensive patio seating next to the river is lovely now that the weather is warming up. Both times we've been the service has been warm, helpful and friendly. I went with a group of people at the end of their service. I called ahead of time and they told me to come in but they were out of some dishes. Cocktails were excellent and service overall was great. But the brisket was a joke. It was one thin slice which was very dry. I was hungry after and ended up eating Taco Bell after. I wouldn't recommend this for people over 180 lbs. This one is a five out of five across the board. I was met with a warm and inviting greeting from the host before I was swiftly taken to my offered table. They moved with intention and great care once I mentioned I might be catching a movie a short while after. The space itself is breathe-taking. Clean lines and suggestive colors create a very inventive atmosphere, complimented by touches of whimsy and comfort. Congruently the menu and cocktails were nothing less than exemplary! This is my third time here and enjoyed it. The only thing is I feel they need to add about 10 more items overall to the menu. It feels a bit sparse. But other than that here are the positives: great room (although lights were bright in the beginning of our dinner) Good fast service. Great staff. Food was good. I enjoyed the Butternut and grains dish. My hubby got the side of brisket. Tiny but it's a side. The Tonys pasta was excellent. (The braised greens not so great. Lacked flavor) The leek soup was excellent. The flat bread pizza good. Side bread yummy. The bill for 4 people was $200 before tip. And that was because of the drinks. The two glasses of Pinot were $14 each. (Cocktails are $16. But they look amazing!!) I love this place and they will do well if they can tweak their menu to have a few more options and larger portions. I really want this place to succeed. You. Must. Try. This. Restaurant. Our party of four was absolutely delighted with the cocktails, the vegan selections, the staff, the tasteful and unpretentious interior ... WOW what a perfect balance - - the chef REALLY knows what s/he is doing! Try the gnocchi!! The chop salad is a masterpiece! About $225 for four of us, we had a total of six cocktails and two desserts. Very reasonable - tipped our delightful server well. Can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu! read more
