When you go to Lumes, you should know exactly what you're going to get from the restaurant. The kitchen staff is consistent with their preparation, proportions, and generally pretty quick with getting the food out to the customer. The prices are very reasonable as well for what you're getting. The physical appearance of the restaurant is outdated, but that shouldn't matter. The wait staff, however, is generally hit or miss. Last time I was at Lumes, it was later in the afternoon, and there were only four or so tables occupied. It took 15 minutes to get our check, and we weren't impressed with the service throughout the meal. So go for the food but don't expect water refills or fast bills. read more

Lumes is a small but busy pancake house located off of Fabian Parkway, just a bit East of Randall Road in Batavia. It's clean on the inside with friendly service, though it has been fairly busy on the few occasions that I've visited and choices of seating have been less than ideal. As far as the food itself they have a nice and diverse menu of breakfast items like pancakes and omelets. What I've had there isn't the best tasting food in the world, but I remember the prices being reasonable and the food being good enough for me to return. I'm thinking about moving to Batavia just so I can be close to this restaurant. When they closed the Lumes in Villa Park a couple of years ago, I kind of lost touch with them because the next nearest location is 45 minutes away on a good traffic day. However, it was finally time for a road trip and it was definitely worth it! The service is crazy efficient, your coffee cup is always full, and I swear they had my food in front of me about 90 seconds after the waitress left the table with my order. I went for my favorite: the egg white veggie omelette. When was the last time you had food placed in front of you that was steaming hot? I nearly wept with joy when the holy trinity of hot sauces--Tabasco, Louisiana, Cholula--were perched at the plate's side. The waitress even brought a full bottle of ketchup for the hash browns. Sweet! All of my favorite things on one table. It was like an omelette eating contest for the first few bites, but then I panicked and started rationing my eggs like it was my last meal before going to the electric chair. I realized that when this plate of yum was gone, that was it, the meal would be over and I'd have no more omelette. Sad but true. My husband actually laughed right at me because I was giddy with joy at how awesome the place is. The restaurant is big enough so you don't have much of a wait, even on Saturday morning. First time here although my iPhone totally gave me wrong directions and took me to east side of fabyan. It was extremely busy but we were seated immediately. The staff was very friendly and restaurant was very clean. My daughter ordered cheese omelette and I had Aloha omelette. We love to eat and the portions were huge, they also give you pancakes which were also delicious. My daughter said it's the best omelette she's ever had. My omelette was made with egg whites and it was pretty good. Lastly my OJ was freshly squeezed and that's surprising nowadays but well received. We LOVE Lumes! We go there VERY often for breakfast. The Louisiana omelet is normally go-to being our fav but their other foods are also good including the eggs Benedict. The omelet is HUGE so we always split it. Expect to wait on Saturdays and especially Sundays for breakfast. Out of curiosity we tried Lumes for lunch and dinner and it was also delicious. Stopped by Lumes on Saturday morning and got the weekend off to a great start. It was busy but we were seated immediately and our waitress was came by early and often. I really enjoyed my Breakfast Club meal with waffles and it got to the table about 8 minutes after I ordered it, amazing service. Probably the best part of this trip for me was seeing the owner giving away balloons to kids as they left the restaurant. My favorite breakfast place of all time! Let it be known that the waitstaff are true artists - this place is always busy, people running everywhere, maybe different food choices- and they have never gotten my order wrong. Honestly, sometimes you feel like you just ordered and then your food arrives. (house elves, maybe?) The food is excellent! The portions are large and the prices are good. The menu is quite large - ranging from traditional breakfast foods, crepes, fancy pancakes (try the german panckes!) to lunch items. They also have waffle fries! Who doesn't love waffle fries. :) Another wonderful thing about Lumes is no matter how packed the place is or how many people are waiting for tables, you never feel rushed by the staff to leave. OH! and they just added a dinner menu for week nights. They are now going to be open until 9:30. read more

My son and I have found our new breakfast spot!! Recommended by a "foodie" coworker of mine, we were in the area Christmas shopping and decided to pop in for a late lunch. The boy got a Breakfast Club #1, which included three pancakes, two eggs any style, two sausage links, and two pieces of bacon. He definitely didn't finish it all, but said it was the best breakfast he's gotten at a restaurant! I got the Signature French Toast, which is cinnamon swirl French toast, covered in bananas, blueberries, and strawberries. The fruit was super fresh and the French toast was amazing! Their serving sizes and prices were great. Oh... And FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE!!! Get a large!! Amazing!!! The service was great! Even though the place was packed, our waitress, Kelly, made us feel like we were the only guests in the restaurant. That was nice!! She made us feel right at home during our visit. My favorite breakfast place in the area! I love their food and I have yet to have a bad experience here. The place is always packed but they turn tables very quickly. Even on Mother's Day, we waited less than 20 minutes and people were piling out the door. Food is always delicious. The breakfast specials are great and guess what, you can sub some ingredients out. I'm not a fan of pepper jack cheese and they had no problem switching it out. Not many places will let you change a "special." The service is top notch. The servers will actually fill up your coffee even if it's not their table. Every one has been friendly as well. Parking is the only complaint. The lot fills up quickly. I sometimes park in Walgreen's lot and there has never been a problem with that. This is the best place in the suburbs and it's worth a drive out on the weekend. Plus now it looks like they're open for dinner, so I know I will be back here. read more

Breakfast, so simple, yet so easy to screw up. This is the kind of breakfast place that I wish Memphis had! On a Saturday morning, we were immediately seated and offered coffee (and frequent warm-ups throughout the meal). Our waitress was an older lady who had clearly worked here forever, and knew the extensive menu inside out. I had scrambled eggs, sausage links, hash browns, and toast -- delicious. My only complaint is that the hash browns were a little underdone and could have used some salt, though apparently I like hash browns "well done" and probably could have requested that. Nice little diner located off of Randall Road. There's nothing spectacular about Lumes, but there's nothing awful either. The service was fantastic, and the menu is diverse enough so everyone can find something they want. They also offered a specials menu which rocked my worked! I ordered an omelet with multigrain cakes and fruit. The food is solid, staff is solid, and the restaurant offers a quality dining experience. The reason they do not get a 4 or 5 star rating is their upcharge on fruit and egg beaters. It's not even like they gave me a lot of fruit anyway! I was hungry for breakfast today and was debating just hit up Denny's bc probably no wait or check out Lumes, so decided check out Lumes bc it will taste great and worth the wait...well the wait was short which was awesome, but the food was so mediocre. My husband and I both ordered fluffy omlettes but they were so disappointing. You get a lot of food for your money, but it was mediocre tasting. Even the hash browns were blah tasting and those are usually hard to mess up! Very disappointing for a place that specializes in breakfast. The service was ok. The waitress checked on us once, which is unusual bc usually breakfast places keep the coffee flowing. I give it an average rating bc it was ok, but not spectacular or worth going out of the way or waiting for. read more

Great selection and outstanding quality. The staff is friendly and attentive. The one suggestion I would make for them is to put the specials on the tables. My husband and I went to Chicago Premium Outlet, Aurora and we decided to venture out of the outlet area for lunch since the food court there didn't look very welcoming. We drove for about 10 - 15 min, the place was further than we expected as yelp's search seemed to pin-point it nearer than it is. We're really glad we made the drive! I love this place! The place felt so old school it brought me back in time. And the customers were mostly gentle elderly folks. The waitress who served us was very friendly and prompt in her service. We ordered an avocado and bacon omelette and half a serving of the egg benedict. She took our orders as a full serving of the egg benedict but didn't charge us the full amount for it. But boy, were we glad she got our orders wrong because the eggs were SUPERB! The egg yolk slowly gently flowed out when I poked a hole. Having it together with the Hollandaise sauce and muffins totally bowled me over. My stomach was jumping with joy and my brains were going OMG OMG OMG. And I am someone who don't actually like poached eggs. The egg yolk drench the dry muffin and filled it with moisture and softness that was pleasing to my mouth and palettes. It was all I could do to close my eyes and savour the taste in my mouth while my jealous husband looks on and glances down at his omelette that wasn't all that appetizing. The avocado and bacon omelette was ok. Nothing fanciful and it's as its name suggests, just chunks of avocado and slices of bacon inside. It wasn't too salty so that's good, but it didn't have the rich flavour that the poached eggs had. Pancakes also came with the omelette but when I finally got to them, they were cold (actually, i'm not sure whether it was served cold in the first place as the pancakes were really cold and slightly stiff). So go here for the poached eggs and you won't be disappointed! =) read more

We have started taking trips to Lumes more frequently. Their breakfast is so good, the service is so friendly and though the parking lot is always packed, we have not had much problem getting a table. We have a 16 month old and I am a picky breakfast eater and they accommodate both perfectly well. Seriously, they are the friendliest group of people around. I enjoy the turkey sausage and the fresh fruit cup is boring but if you ask for a specific fruit, they'll give you that instead (like strawberries and grapes, instead of melon and stuff). read more

Visited Lumes over Memorial Day weekend, surprised we got right in! We called as we left our house, put our name in, and were seated right away despite the long lines of people waiting for tables. The place was packed! I'm not sure why the review says there are no reservations - maybe it's just "call ahead seating". Our server was great - although very soft spoken. Maybe it was hard to hear because it was so busy and very loud - typical breakfast place though. Their menu was extensive, and even offered lunch choices although it was the AM. Prices were spot on - for a table of four, we ordered a LOT. Our bill was only $40 If I'm in the area, I'll definitely be back. Because I don't live very close, I doubt this will be a regular breakfast spot for me, but I have no complaints. read more

I've been a customer since I moved to Batavia in 2010. While the staff have changed over the years, the quality of the food and serving staff have kept it's amazing standards. The environment is casual and clean. The food is hearty, with them always doubling the amount of eggs; if you order two eggs, you will always get four (they say it's because the eggs are small). I have put on more weight than I'd like to admit because of this fine place. The only con I can give is that due to it's good qualities, it's garnered a popular reputation which has lead to some massive and loud crowds during peak hours and Sundays. Not a truly bad con, but it does mean that you need to pick your battles, the battlefield being the Sunday crowd. read more

Food was great and portions were generous. The only thing lacking was service (and decor is way way way outdated). We had the Breakfast Club #1 and the Symphony Crepes; we liked both dishes. The crepes were huge! I was actually expecting really small portions since other places serve tiny crepes but I was pleasantly surprised at the size and even had leftovers. However, the service needs some attention; perhaps we just had an off experience. Our server was a kind elderly lady but unfortunately, she only checked on us once, about 1 minute after we received our food and before I was able to even try my dish. We didn't see her again till the end when she dropped off the check. We were never offered water refills and their glass size is rather small, so you run out of water quickly. One of the hostesses seemed less than enthused when we came in and had little to no expression when I asked her for crayons and a color sheet for my daughter. Rough morning perhaps? I don't know.
