The atmosphere is very comfortable; open and airy and beautifully renovated with an attractive large bar. Every inch of this restaurant is immaculately clean as well. My first time at Lumis happened to be with a large party of 17 people for a lunch on a Sunday. The service and food were outstanding. The menu is quite extensive as is the wine list. While we shared some appetizers, we ordered many different entrees and everything came out at almost the same time which is no easy feat with so many different meals needing to be prepared. We attended a family Christening yesterday, it was the first time we were there. Walking into the restaurant you can feel the warmth of the atmosphere.....the dining rooms were comfy/cozy. Our party was in a private room behind the bar area. The room was a great size. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating and the food was absolutely delicious! The appetizers, fried calamari, very fresh and fried to perfection, eggplant rollantini was delicious and a sampler platter of clams oreganata, mozzarella en carozza, and shrimp were a perfect combination. There were 3 entree choices.....Chicken Francaise, Rigatoni Bolognese and Salmon Dijon. A majority of our ltable had the Rigatoni Bolognese and it looked delicious and those who ordered it were very happy! We also, had the Chicken Francaise at our table and I can tell you the the portion was quite generous, the sauce was just the right amount of lemon and it was plated with mashed potatoes and an assortment of yellow, green squash and carrots. I come back here time and time again for the simple reason that the food and service is amazing! last night i started with the Dijon crab cake which had lots and lots of crab and a nice sauce! Next i had the pleasure of having the filet it was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection! For dessert i enjoy an espresso martini and when i say this is the best you will have i mean it! Made with quality ingredients and so flavorful i get it every-time. Last i had the biscotti and it was a nice sweet touch to end dinner. I sat at the bar but the dinning room is very classy and a comfortable eating space I'm excited to try the outdoor seating in the warmer months! An incredible dinner from start to finish. Everyone at this restaurant was simply amazing and very helpful. Food was amazing as well, I cannot wait to come back to try more things. For appetizers we had the calamari. For entrées we had the filet and the chicken burrata. Both were incredible, especially the chicken. For dessert we were given complimentary biscotti and WOW I hope those were homemade because I need to steal the recipe. This was our first time here and we were very pleasantly pleased at this family run jewel. The server, Donnie, was very professional and attentive. The menu featured a number of Italian, steak and seafood dishes. We had the Spedini as an appetizer. It was a different presentation and taste fun purges that we've had, but it was excellent. Fire mains, we had Mahi Mahi and Branzino. Both came with vegetables and mashed. They were both prepared perfectly and were delicious. I usually do not like to take to social media to post negative reviews- not my style. For me to write a this, I really have to be been rubbed the wrong way. Let me also preface by saying that I am 100% Italian, know how to cook, was raised on good food, and eat at many different high-quality restaurants. This place was far and away one of the worst restaurants I've ever dined at. I ate there with a couple friends for Christmas; we figured we try something new, as a lot of other places were not open on a holiday and we wanted to venture out. To summarize: 1- They sit us (mind you in a virtually empty restaurant) right next to the only other table that was occupied. This took away from our privacy and the other tables. Why not spread us until more customers come in? 2- The women who sat us very nice, as was young waiter. An older gentleman, who also waited on us, was a bit rude. More on that later. 3- The chicken parmigiana was very soggy and rubbery- easily the worst ever. Was told by the older waiter (BTW we all ordered chicken parmigiana) that we all had to get the same type of side pasta, since the chef could not (or would not) make different varieties (implying they would not open more than 1 box of pasta to cook at one time). I have NEVER seen or heard of that before!!! Let me school this establishment on a small thing: You always get to choose your pasta!!! Pasta costs nothing, and you sound extremely cheap by saying we cannot choose. 4- They advertise they have homemade tiramisu; trust me, this could not be further from the truth. If it was it homemade by some long shot, it was certainly not fresh. 5- cappuccino was barely drinkable according to my friend. My coffee was also bitter and I was not asked if I wanted a refill. 6- old waiter who I alluded earlier was a bit of a wiseass and seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. When people are paying good money .. just fake it sir. 7- bread was decent; had a hot pepper spread which was good. I hope this place can take these comments constructively. As always I try to give a fair assessment of the restaurants I dine at. I am actively involved in the industry and know that a bad review can have a negative impact. That being said, Lumi's was a disappointment for me. Basis the reviews I expected much better. The ambiance was very nice and the bar made good drinks. But food was lagging very far behind. We started with the calamari and Arancini. The calamari were heavily breaded and texture was stale and like trying to eat plastic. Which showed they were frozen and overcooked. The Arancini were "ok" but the rice used (Arborio) was way over cooked and mushy. Also could barely taste the truffle oil that was advertised. My wife had the shrimp and risotto. The risotto was incredibly salty and the shrimp were again....over cooked. I had the salmon fettuccini which was advertised with salmon, cherry tomatoes, and wild mushrooms. It was overcooked salmon, grape tomatoes, and white mushrooms in reality. It lacked flavor and depth that such a dish should have with so much ingredients. And it was clear that whomever made the pasta didn't salt the water. I had to call the waiter over and ask for salt and pepper. Which still didn't help. My mother who joined us had a simple chicken parm and the chicken was clearly low quality, prepared way in advance and very difficult to cut none the less eat. My son ordered penne with vodka and chicken where the the chicken was pounded into 1/8th of an inch thick rapidly grilled and not seasoned then dumped on top of pasta. If a customer is paying $8 for chicken to be added to a dish, this was super cheap and looked and tasted like it too. Our waiters both were ok. Except for the fact that we ordered a pasta dish for a youngster of pasta with butter and they charged us for a penne with vodka ($18!) If they are going to boast authentic Italian, they need to work on the basics like cooking rice and pasta correctly. Stop being cheap! Everyone has raised their prices to compensate for COVID and supply chain issues. Costs have come down some, and no one is making any moves to reduce their prices, so when you cheap it with cutting portions and serving cheap frozen ingredients, it's not a good move. This doesn't make my recommendations list. Sorry. read more

Great clean and modern Italian new restaurant in Fairfield. We had wonderful, personable, and attentive service and enjoyed the clean spacious layout. Great martinis and well focused menu with Italian American classics. Food came out hot, with large portions, and delicious flavors. For dessert, we had a proper espresso and homemade biscotti which were a really nice finish to a satisfying meal. Perfect evening and a great addition to the neighborhood. I would say that the overall is more of a 3 1/2 to 4. The service of management is excellent. They handled issues and delays well. When drinks did not manifest they brought the drinks themselves. The waiter unfortunately was not attentive did not let us know what was going on despite long delays with the food. Food took probably 45 minutes to be received for the main entrees. Appetizers were extremely quick though and pretty tasty. The entrees were not as good. Pasta was a bit muddy. And while the seafood tasted fresh and noodles seemed like they might have been fresh or made in-house the overall taste lacked enough flavor and there was nothing special. The chocolate lava cake which is a staple of many restaurants came out cold in the middle. No molten chocolate. It's not cheap (but then again not many places these days are) so I might give them a try again but wouldn't be my first stop . read more
