Lumpy's is under new management. So they are once again open for business. It's a HOT day and it's empty, just a few cars going through drive thru. A few more people walked in!!!!! Yay!!! The employees are very nice and gave us a big welcome when we walked in. My Salted Caramel Ice Cream is so good. We are under their covering away from the scorching heat. Stopped in for some post-dinner ice cream with the family. I used the drive thru because why not. I ordered a sundae with chocolate ice cream, chocolate fudge, and sprinkles. The microphone wasn't working, so asked me to repeat my order. Then I ordered a banana split with hard ice cream. They have hard and soft ice cream to choose from. When I pulled around and received my ice cream, they gave us vanilla ice cream in the sundae. No worries. The worker apologized for the microphone and handed me my banana split. This location used to be a car dealership and they have a large awning to sit under so you could theoretically eat ice cream outdoors year round without worrying too much about the weather. I have passed Lumpy s so many times traveling on Pearl Road and finally stopped to check out their menu. What a great little place I ended up ordering a banana split with hard scoop ice cream it was definitely a great choice . It had everything on it. Ordering and service was quick and easy and very polite employees. I will definitely return to Lumpy s to try another item on their large reasonably priced menu soon ‼ I know a lot of people have commented that it is an odd looking building. it was an old Chevy dealer in the day. I am on a BEST SOFT SERVE OF CLEVELAND QUEST. Easy to spot from the road. Interesting building for ice cream and it lends to the charm. There is a large covered area with picnic tables and a side room with kiddie games. It has a kitsch Americana, 50's ish charm. There is parking in front and back. There is a fun, old timey drive thru too. They have hard ice cream, soft serve, shakes, and Sundays. Glancing quickly, I noticed they had hotdogs and pizza slices on the menu as well. It is clean. Prices are spot-on. Now down to the skinny, Nice butter fat percentage. Very creamy. Medium twist was $2.75. 41/2-5" above the cake cone rim. IMO a very good bang for your buck. Prices and portions are good. The fruity flavors along with most others are artificial for example cherry or strawberry we have tasted. Even the lake Erie salt mine decent seem like a legit caramel flavor. What disappoints me more is I believe these flavors to be shipped in off a truck or another local place I went to had the same flavors: lake Erie salt mine, cookie monster, super man etc. Disappointing. I'll likely go where they make things with local ingredients, natural ingredients, and it tastes good, puts money in local people from top to bottom. read more

I kept passing it and finally tried it. The chocolate soft serve is the best I've ever had. The texture is different--can't describe it--and it tastes like chocolate real whipped cream! Also had the peach cream--real chunks of fresh peach. And the Italian ice in tangerine flavor! Everything is delicious and the service was fast and courteous. Prices are lower than other places. Lumpy's is ok. They suffer from too few choices and from the surrounding competition being too great. 5 minutes east I have two, TWO locations of honey hut with too many choices. And about 10-15 minutes south I have Handel's. That's not counting Bryson's on ridge AND east coast frozen custard on pearl, which is just up the road from lumpy's. We've been there twice and I wanted to like them as an ice cream lover. It's just difficult to. I've easily had way better, from places where you'd think a smaller selection would mean better focus on the menu, and that's furthest from the truth. Honey hut and Handel's have endless flavors and everything tastes amazing. I just can't tell someone to go to lumpy's over other places, unless you don't want to drive. read more

I like that they are locally owned...I like that they have a drive thru...Unfortunately, we didn't like our peanut butter milkshakes....They were more like peanut butter milk...Glad we only got smalls, I didn't even drink half mine. For the price, doubt I'll be back for another try since there are local places closer to home who never disappoint. read more

2 stars because the service was good, very friendly. Originally stopped in because saw dipped cones. Assumed it was the ice cream being dipped, unfortunately it was truly only the cone part. No biggie I thought, I see "superman" ice cream. Ordered 2 scoops in a bowl. Get home to give it a taste and the top has ice chunks, which is whatever butttt the ice cream wasn't good. My wife and I spotted Lumpy's as we were driving home, un-desserted, from Hot Dog Diner. The decision required some discussion-- it looked a little scary-- but we turned around and gave it a shot. Lumpy's is one of the few places that serves both hard (as they call it; meaning "hand-packed") ice cream (which they scoop out of cartons) and soft (or "frozen custard"), which gets extruded out of machines. Both are made in-house. They offer 16 flavors of hard (chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, plus 13 that rotate), many of which have chunks (nuts, chips, etc...) mixed in there. There are only two flavors (vanilla and chocolate) of soft. You can get either option in your shake. A shake with hard ice cream will be a lot thicker. I prefer that; my wife does not. The hard ice cream might have chunks in it-- which can be a plus or a minus. A shake made with soft ice cream (which has air whipped in) costs less and is easier to eat. Its consistency is more like a Wendy's Frosty-- although Lumpy's soft ice cream (unlike Wendy's) tastes like ice cream, not chocolate-flavored milk of magnesia. You can also get either in a bowl-- or on cones. (I saw plain and dipped-- chocolate and strawberry-- which can also have sprinkles.) I think those are done in-house, but I didn't see any made. My wife had the "Chocolate blackout" (dark chocolate ice cream with chips) in a bowl and was very happy with her choice. Two scoops at Lumpy's would be equal to three or four at some places. I had a marshmallow sundae with two varieties of ice cream and had a mixed experience. The ice cream was very good. "Triple play" is vanilla with toffee chunks, peanuts and chocolate chunks. Mint cookie chip is mint ice cream with chocolate wafers crushed up in it.. The sundae featured toppings that were not homemade-- in fact, were the sort of stuff (sauces, whipped cream, nuts, incandescent red cherry) that you find at pretty much any ice cream place that buys in bulk from GFS or one of the other wholesalers. We also had a chocolate shake made with with soft ice cream (chocolate). That was either "perfect" or "would have better if it used hard ice cream-- OUCH; don't judo chop me!" Lumpy's lets you order at a drive through (good if you're ordering something they have every day), or sit on picnic tables under a roof, so you can listen to classic rock and view scenic Pearl Road. (There's no indoor seating-- it's a small shop.) Personally, I'd always go in, because I'd always order hard ice cream and would want to look at the flavors of the day. My wife, who likes soft, probably never would. And that's the big selling point for Lumpy's-- it can cater to people who like both "ice cream" and "frozen custard", which most places can't. Lumpy's gets three stars, but it's 25 minutes away from my home. That's the same distance as Mitchell's in Rocky River, (which would get five). Mootown Creamery is very comparable-- better in some ways, worse in others-- but it is less than ten minutes away. So, as they say, your mileage may vary-- and so will your opinion. If I lived a few blocks away, like the first reviewer, I might tack on another star. I expect we'll go back-- but only because we do shop over there, and we might be in the mood for something sweet. read more

I have been to this business at least three times since the pandemic started. Each time, multiple staff were either non-masked or had their mask hanging off their faces. Staff is always huddled together talking, no social distancing. The worker has no gloves on and very long fake nails as she prepares your shake. She says, "We only have to wear gloves when making food." I guess a shake isn't edible. The first time I reported the situation to the owner, the owner justified the behavior. The second time I was ignored. The third time, I was blocked. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to East Coast Custard. They have been on point about masks ON and gloves ON! They also turn you away if you don't have one on when ordering. The amount of disregard for safety and the disrespect of justifying, ignoring, and then blocking is disgusting when people are dying. I have no respect for this business and if you value lives, you should rethink where you give your money. Had the owner been professional and addressed the issues each time and apologized, I'd probably see it a bit differently. read more

I like the ice cream, as well as how close it is to home. We've been going to the snow road location since opening day. Had an incident today, and realized that one of your employees seem to be racist. She blatantly ignored a friend of mine (of color) that was ordering ice cream, and instead of fulfilling her order, decided to ignore her and try and take my order. We will no longer be going to this ice cream shop until this employee resigns or is let go. read more

A single scoop ice cream cone is about the same price as a pint of Ben and Jerry's......... there are other places that have GREAT ice cream at much lower prices. I like to support locally owned establishments, but when I want an ice cream cone, I won't be going here. read more
