It's more of a 3.5. The food was amazing, though my boyfriend and I both wished the portions were larger, and maybe less pricey. If I'm going to pay that much, I think I should get a little more. My main reason for knocking off a couple stars was the service. Not terrible, but far less than stellar. where do i start??? 2nd time to this restaurant. food is good. reasonably priced. easy to get to. lots of parking. service: not so good. our server seemed to be in a hurry and rush us to take our order. may have been understaffed, but that is not our problem. wasn't rude, but not necessary to hurry us when trying to make our selections. there were only three of us so i don't understand why he couldn't remember who ordered what when dropping entree. busser was another issue. this guy had a bad attitude. kept giving me dirty looks whenever i asked for something i.e., bread, butter, hot water, etc. i asked to speak w/a manager upon leaving and was advised he/she left. when i explained to the server about the busser attitude, he told me that maybe the guy didn't understand me. if you don't understand simple english perhaps you should be working in the kitchen. how else am i supposed to communicate? btw, he understood me perfectly. you know when somebody knows. all in all not a pleasant experience. will probably not be going back. too bad because i really like their desserts. read more

We have been to Italy twice. This restaurant is very much reminiscent of actual Italian/European restaurants; the food is not all boring Fettucine Alfredo and Lasagna, you have many unique and delicious options. However the tables are very close to each other (this is common in Europe). I have never been disappointed with their food or service, every time we have been we have LOVED it. Luna was a great find by accident with the help of Yelp. It was a little hard to find even though it was right next to the Starbucks! My cousins and I had made a reservation, but still ended up waiting for a table, which is understandable because it was a Friday evening. However, the people there were so polite, and patient with us when we were trying to figure out the menu. The dishes are in Italian, but they list the ingredients in English (thank goodness), and even though we butchered the dishes, the waiter was so polite and did not laugh at our horrible translations. Portions were great, started with the Bruschetta Fungi and a delicious Penne in red sauce, and ended with an array of desserts. Everything was great, but definitely a once a month or few month deal. I went there yesterday for lunch for valentines day because i read the reviews and they were good. I'm not doing that again! There was only one waitress and one other person who brought out the bread and wrapped up the left overs but did not take orders. My food had to be substituted with spinach because for some reason they were out of broccoli? My waitress seemed very annoyed. She was doing too many things at once and it showed. I really didn't like my food and I literally had three bites of it. The waitress nor the bus boy noticed, who wrapped my food up to go even when I tried to get his attention to just not bother. So for valentines day I'm the one who picked this restaurant and I'm the one that ended up greatly disappointed and carrying a take out box with food I didn't want. read more

Well reading the reviews, I might have to give them a 2nd try. The first visit was not good at all. Walked inside after going to the BofA and waited for someone to greet me and when they finally did and was told to "wait" wait , what do you think I have been doing for 4 minutes. Well waited another full minute then walked out. Not sure what was going on, but some of the reviews seem like they still have the same issues they had some time ago. Luna is a small, intimate restaurant in downtown Concord, across from Todos Santos Plaza at the corner of Mt. Diablo and Willow Pass Rd. There is parking on the street and in a small parking lot tucked in behind the restaurant. My girlfriends and I have been there several times after work in the past couple of years and we have tried the Penne with Sausage, Saltimbocca and others always delicious. Although we chat forever, we are never rushed. Last night, 6/1/13, my husband and I went with another couple and this time we tried the antipasto and the carpaccio and shared them, which were excellent. As usual they have brought the warm and crusty bread and as usual we ate too much of it. My husband had the pasta and seafood, not only delicious according to him but also too much. One of our friends ordered the pasta with prawns, and his wife had the puttanesca, which they enjoyed very much. I had the cannelloni with chicken and a magnificent sauce. For dessert, three of us had the zucotto de choccolato, described as a soufflé but more like a chocolate muffin, but the flavor and presentation with white and chocolate sauces and raspberry as garnish, was wonderful. My husband tried the torta de bosco, filled with cream and berries, another winner. Their service on a busy night was very attentive and their wine list is varied and of good quality. We tried a young Pinot Noir, 2011, which was excellent, and a bottled Stella Artois, which was served perfectly cold on a very warm evening. This is one of our regular spots. The carbonara is my usual order and they take special orders (I don't eat vegetables or herbs and they'll bring it to me the way I order it, which is a huge plus). The best Italian Food I've ever had. The second time I went there, the waitress remembered my name (Can you believe that?). Met the cook once, he was from Morroco (Not from some culinary school around town). The food is excellent and adequately portioned. Every dinning experience is very satisfying and not blotting. Most important the food taste is always consistent. Wine Lovers will have a good time at Luna, and if you do not know how to match wine with food, no worries because they have a suggestion list for you and each of their specialty dishes. The restaurant is not Dressy, but it deserves a little more than just casual attire. In short this is the best kept secret of Downtown Concord! read more

This is not bad for a Concord restaurant. I would have given it 3 stars in San Francisco. Real Italian food without SF prices. The ambiance is nice. I had the house salad with pecans & gorgonzola and I thought it was very flavorful - also I had the lobster ravioli w/ salmon - very rich but good. The service could be better. I had to flag them down for water & to clear my salad plate. They were not very attentive & it seemed like they were training new wait staff - but I would definitely go back & try again to see if they improved. Who would have thought that this little island of Italy would exist in such a little town like Concord?! I was so pleasently surprised to find authentic italian food in my back yard durning my stay there, and I must admit, even outdid several well established "rule" places in North Beach. Small, quiet, dignified, decent service, ECELLENT FARE, and wine, not to mention the mouth watering deserts, which to this day I have dreams of! If you find yourself in that direction, stop in, it will be worth your time, and the pretty penny you may end up spending. (Expect to pay between $30-$40 a head) read more

We are glad we didn't judge the place from the outside, since it's in a small shopping center/strip mall, but once inside, it's warm and inviting, the staff is welcoming, and we love many of the items on the menu - particularly the Pork Medallions. Abdel Redouane, executive chef and owner, consistantly provides an outstanding dining experience whether it be lunch or dinner. Because I eat here two or three times a week I think I may be in a position to evaluate this restaurant. Everthing is excellent here. I normally eat the Cabonara, but I eat every dish on the extensive menu. The service is sweet and you can not argue with the pricing. By way of full disclosure, I am the landlord and consider Abdel a pal, but even so, I believe that Luna represents Concord's finest restaurant and better than 95% of what is offered in Walnut Creek. I take my wife's family here on a regular basis and they very much enjoy the experience. Don't forget to ask Abdel for a special dish, something not on the menu. Best food I ever ate! I've been dreaming about it ever since! And I'm the pickiest eater I know. The dessert was especially impeccable! They did an amazing plating job. My fiance is an aspiring chef and he was so impressed (and he's a tough critic)! He had tiramisu and although I usually hate tiramisu because I dislike espresso, it was amazing! I had Torta di Bosco... my mouth is watering just thinking about it! For dinner I had the Ravioli con spinaci e ricota... so delicious! My fiance had the carbonara. It wasn't very busy, but we were glad. It was quiet and romantic. Our water glasses were always full and the waiter checked on us frequently. We can't wait to go back! read more

Don't come here if you are looking for pasta and red sauce type stuff, but if you're in the mood for for Gnocchi or bruschetta this is where I'd point you. ate here for dinner last weekend with mine and my boyfriend's family for my dad's 50th birthday. there were 7 of us total, and by the end of the night the decision was unanimous--- this place is amazing! everything was delicious, and the service was just wonderful. attentive (but not too attentive) server, water and wine glasses always full, and a constant flow of fresh bread. it was the perfect place to celebrate a nice dinner with friends and family where everyone could chat and have a good time over great food and wine. thank you luna, for making my dad's 50th so memorable! we'll be raving about this place to everyone we know! read more

Do go eat elsewhere. It's not about the money, but I would never pay more then $5 for the meal from microwave. When we've got to the restaurant, waitress approached us within 5 min, there were three tables on the back (4 -2-4), waitress set us down in the middle table, I've asked if we can be seated near the window or the wall, personally do not like the middle tables. The answer was: "we are expecting a reservation (4 people)", so I said- that's fine, we can seat at the other table then, waitress said "no, I'll be back with the menus". Should I say that in 10 min the older couple was seated at the window table ( not 4, but 2 people), and in 5 more minutes another Couple was seated at the table next to the wall. "Great" job! We've ordered food and wine: -The house red wine - two choices: one was cheaper and the other more expensive, but both taste the same - take the cheaper one. -Food- the plate was brought up super hot - microwave food, pasta was over cooked, sauce was not "home cooked" and why is each plate has SO Much parsley? -Staff- as previously mentioned, waitress (about 30, Hispanic) needs to change her attitude big time. Couple that was seated next to us, asked her multiple times not to add mushrooms, dish came with mushrooms, when they've asked for more wine, took 10 min. I thought our experience was bad :) Also, the woman who brings out the bread and plates - please do something with your nails, you are working with food. Simple manicure would fix your chipped nails. Gross! Does not worth for me to spend $15+ on the meal, when I can cook the same pasta and sauce at home. There are plenty of good restaurants in Concord, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek, where you can get a better food for your buck! read more

Ahh, this place is divine. It's like the damn twillight zone, you'd walk by and not think much off it. It is next to a starbucks and across the street from a parking garage. When you walk in it is exactly what you'd expect a classy, upscale Italian restaurant to look like. It's small, but I've never had to wait. I think we've just been really lucky. The service is great, it's always right, they are attentive, without being overly solicitous. It's moderately upscale without being pretentious. I usually go in jeans, cause I believe that my money is green and all other things can fall away. I've seen people dressed in their Saturday best. I always forget the name of my favorite appetizer, but it is a smoked salmon on bread with this Amazing cream sauce. It's heaven on toast! The bread is good, the entree is fantastic, I've had, fillet mignon, fettuccine, lasagna, lobster ravioli and some other stuff, excellent every time. You can also order off menu and no one going to give you a hard time. They aim to please. I usually go with a co-worker of mine and we spend about 100-120 every time. Possibly because we are alkies and order a bottle of wine, appetiers, a dessert wine and possibly dessert, plus the entree. I don't know. Well worth it, to sit in a nice atmosphere and imagine for a little while that you are the nation state that brought you, romance,parliament, soldiers in skirts, bared chested gladiators and the ever famous orgy. read more

i usually don't like going to italian restarunts cuz the food doesn't taste any better than what i can make at home. well, that's definitely not the case with luna. the food here is outstanding and there is no way i can make food anywhere near approaching this level (and i'm a pretty good cook). my favorite dish here is the frute de mare, which is a mixed sefaood dish with wihite wine garlic sauce over pasta. the food here is much richer than most italian restaraunts i've been to, but it's still awesome in every way. read more

I had high hopes for this place primarily for the food. Ordered the seafood penne pasta and my wife had the carbonara. Both tasted good and we were already discussing what we were planning to order next time. As I was moving my food around and forming my next bite, under a shrimp, I spotted a hair. And not just any hair, had the appearance of a pubic hair! In my almost 40 years on this Earth, have never experienced that until now. As I'm writing this feeling disgusted beyond belief, I find myself questioning the cleanliness of this place and/or staff. Should have taken a picture and sent it to the health department! I mean what if this person has an STD, ewww! Or maybe our waiter hates his job so much that he planted it hoping we'd never return. Well success, bravo! I have been in the restaurant business for over 9 years and have eaten at a large percentage of the East Bay restaurants. I have not just eaten at Luna Ristorante once, twice or a few times, but many times. After evaluating a few unfortunately negative reviews that others have provided, I felt compelled to provide a more educated and positive point of view. Most importantly, I find it necessary to point out the highlights of this restaurant that should be the foundation of success for any restaurant. The food is ALWAYS... 1) Hot 2) Choice, Quality ingredients 3) FRESH It is among the top restaurants, if not the best restaurant in Concord. It is also worth the drive if it so happens, you do not live nearby. If you want consistently, fresh food, this is your place. Spaghetti Factory, though great for what it's meant to be (a simple place for very simple family dining) is just that. Luna is in a much different class all-together and in one review, I was shocked (to say the least) that they were noted as a comparison. I should also add that I do in fact have small children and that has not deferred me from dining here. My kids love the food. Even the Spinach salad is a favorite for them. It is prepared with a mix of kid friendly ingredients and the presentation is both creative and colorful. Price may be higher than Spaghetti Factory, but it is worth the extra expense. Chain restaurants are far more overpriced considering the level of cuisine you get for your dollar. In some cases hardly "cuisine" at all. Don't take my word for it...it is an experience worth investigating. read more

In search of a place to eat for a family gathering earlier this week, we called Luna and asked to speak to teh manager. We were having 25-30 people for a dinner before a funeral service. My brotehr met with the manager on a Saturday and on Monday he was amiabnle to openb up early to accomodate our needs. We had a special banquet menu which consisted of a salad and soup and an entree. We did not do dessert because of time constraint and we were having a dessert reception after teh service. Anyhow we have a choice of a mixed green salad or soup of teh day, then four entrees: Htere was a salmon, a seafood linguine with salmon and sea bass, a chicken in Marsalla sauce and a Pumpkin ravioli in Gorganzolla cream uce. All enterees seem to meet approval of the diners and the host was very accomodating to our needs. If you need to have a group meal or banquet LUNA comes highly recommended from myself. read more
