First time visiting this excellent cafe tucked away in Concord off Pacheco St. Stopping by on a Saturday morning, we were greeted warmly and quickly seated. In addition to their standard breakfast/brunch/lunch menu, there were also weekend specials. A lot of great-sounding options but since it was our first time, we decided to try some of our favorite traditional items. The corned beef hash was in the form we like and well-seasoned. It was accompanied by two eggs (ordered over easy and cooked just right!) as well as crispy hash browns that were not too greasy. The sourdough toast was crisp and came with assorted smucker's jams. We also tried their breakfast combo where we ordered eggs and link sausage (4 juicy links) along with a large portion of nicely prepared French toast. The coffee was Columbian and hot, and my cup always stayed full. They also provided large glasses of ice water, and provided ketchup and Tabasco sauce for our breakfast platters. The portions were large and commensurate with their prices, which were reasonable, and the service was outstanding. We are already aiming to get back soon to try other things on their menu. read more

Working in Concord for a couple of weeks, and while doing my Sunday day off laundry chore nearby, I searched for a breakfast spot close to me. I decided to give this neighborhood cafe a try and so happy that I did. The place has a very welcoming atmosphere. Little bit of a nostalgic vibe with a touch of modern. I loved that there was the old diner counter to sit at and watch the cook do his magic. There are several tables as well inside and some tables outside to enjoy a meal under the sky. If you view the menu, you'll see they offer quite an array of choices. My choice today was the Portuguese omelette with toast and hashbrowns. I complemented the cook on how easy he made it look to cook on a griddle and how well he managed to prepare the dishes. If you've ever tried to do an omelette on a flat griddle, you'll understand my point. The food was amazing. Well made and with such great flavor. I'm really hoping to be here next weekend to give this place another visit before I depart for home. The omelette was three eggs and plenty of filling. You'll be pleasantly full or asking for a box to go. The hashbrowns were perfect also. The lady my order and making sure I didn't need anything was super friendly and had a great personality. We have visited Bay Leaf Cafe a few years ago and wasn't impressed, but decided to try again. We were delighted by the quality of food. I ordered a Shrimp and Avocado Salad . The Thousand Island Dressing was served on the side in a small container. It was enough dressing. The amount of shrimp was great! They were not skimpy. The avocado slices were just the right amount. Overall, this was a delicious salad. Greek Salad. The person who ordered this thought the flavor was nice, but wished they used Kalamata olives instead of black olives. Her comment was , "it would make this more a Greek Salad in flavor." The chicken was added and actually made the salad more substantial. The amount of dressing was overwhelming. She would have like the dressing on the side so she could add it herself. Overall, she enjoyed the salad, but probably would not order it again. Belgium Waffle with two eggs and two bacon. The person who ordered this said it was a very decent combination and he would definitely order it again. Overall we will be back to try more of the items on the Bay Leaf menu. read more

This place was recommended to me by a friend with their weekly specials. We were coming from an appointment and decided to stop by. I got the pancake special while the boyfriend got the 2 egg special. The plates/portions were small, but the prices were under $15. I also got a hot chocolate which was a nice addition to my meal. It's a great place if you want something on a budget. Our whole meal was under $30! The pancake special was filling, but the 2 egg dish didn't seem to be. Ordered a vegetarian sandwich since it sounded very fresh with a side of fries. Overall the sandwich was ok, no real flavor which was a shame considering all of the fresh ingredients. This cafe is the exact thing that I was looking for this morning. I wanted to be surrounded by flowers, with a yummy breakfast, and a hot chocolate in hand. The $8.99 weekday specials are a steal! The eggs were actually made to order (over medium) with no jiggly whites leftover - my true test of how kitchens cook eggs ;) We also got the steak and eggs (also actually cooked to order) with a side of potatoes. The Bay Leaf Cafe is a small place in downtown Concord. It's been a breakfast spot for quite a few years in the area. Hadn't been for a while until recently during the July heat wave... I hate to say, but I was set back by what I experienced. The temperature that day was around 100 degrees by late morning. And, the inside of the restaurant had to have been mid to high 80s at least. They had a big ole noisy swamp cooler on wheels blowing warm air around the place. It just made the whole situation worse really. One word, inappropriate. If you can't keep a small space like they have cool for customers you have a serious problem on your hands. This little cafe really needs to be retrofitted with AC in a hurry. Being that the food was not that good also, I don't think I'll be going back unfortunately. Final Thought: If you're thinking of going on a hot day.....think again. Black Bear has way better breakfast also. read more
