It's dark inside and there is a smoking section on one side of the restaurant and smoke wafts over but it wasn't too bad. Margaritas were good as were the chips and salsas. The waiter kept our chips and salsa bowls filled. I ordered the fried fish tacos and they were outstanding. It came with charro beans which were tasty. I ordered a side of mexican rice which could have used more seasonings. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. Although I was a tad nervous this establishment allowed smoking inside, it was a great experience overall. read more

The service was quick for the party I was in and the food came out a lot quicker then expected. My supreme nachos came out fast and were good, the only complaint I have is that there weren't enough chips in them so I had to use the chips from the salsa and chips appetizer. read more

Went to Luna's for dinner. The food is fantastic. The servers were prompt and courteous. I had the Mexican tacos, very authentic. My wife had taquitos and said they were good. I love Luna's! The salsa is amazing - both the green and red. The food is so delicious; you won't regret it! My only negative feedback is that they allow smoking in the restaurant so from the minute you walk in the door you smell cigarette smoke. It's rather off putting having to smell that, even in the non-smoking section. We had supreme nachos, beef fajitas, a taco, and enchiladas. ALL were delicious! Highly recommend. read more

My wife and stopped here for lunch and we did not wait long to get a booth. The food arrived quickly. I got the chicken quesadilla and they were excellent. Full of flavor and a really good cheese pull. My wife got the beef fajita taco salad. Plenty of beef. The portions were very generous. A great atmosphere as well. I have been coming to Lunas Texas City for about 30 years or so. Gina has been my server most of the the time. She is the best server and bartender in the county. If you know anybody that's been here, more than likely they know Gina. She always has a happy vibe and takes great care of her customers. The rest of the staff is professional and knowledgeable about the menu. One of my favorite dishes is the Chicken Breast topped with Spinach and Cheese! The fried avacado is huge and delicious! The Caldo is very good. The beef fajitas are very tender and not too salty. If you like your hot sauce HOT, ask for the manager sauce. We have had numerous birthday parties and family gatherings here and always get the Royal Treatment! The man at the front desk welcomes everyone with a smile and will seat you quickly, and always asks if you need a menu. The staff is like family and always make sure we have a great time! I've lived around these parts all my life, but today's the day I actually set foot in this establishment for the first time ever. I treated my mom to Mother's Day lunch here. It didn't take long for us to grab a table since we went during the lull between lunch and dinner. The Monterey Dinner I ordered was hit or miss. Presentation-wise, the meal was assembled as if the kitchen staff was on borrowed time though technically they are. Bright spots were quite a few: taco was a consistent blend of meat, cheese and veggies and there was an ample amount of tasty Mexican rice. Given its name, the beef fajita enchilada should've been the biggest hit but it was an underwhelming dud. Before we got our food, the table next to me received these fajitas that had a heavenly aroma. That said, I think Luna's deserves another go-around. read more

The food is really good at Lunas, but the restaurant stinks so bad like cigarette smoke. I don't why they still allow smokers to smoke inside. Came here on a whim, as we were getting tattoos next door. It's REALLY hard to mess up a good thing, but you can bet this place did. The prices are astronomical but I think the only reason they get away with this is there's nothing else similar around them for the area. I ordered a chicken fried chicken burger and didn't even get a patty. I got some measly strips of chicken that were TINY for the price of $13.00. The fajita tacos had extra soft fajita like they had it on a steam table. It was soft like pot roast. Probably the only good thing was the table guacamole. Came here after running a half marathon. Needed some post race fuel. Hubs, kids and grandparents came. Promptly seated. Drinks quickly brought. Started with large queso with ground beef. They are served with fried flour chips-tasty. I had the three taco plate with chicken and beef fajita meat, other plates ordered were cheese enchiladas and enchilada verdes as well as a few combination platters. Food didn't take long and we were pleased. Prices are very reasonable and portions are plenty. Nothing fancy. Just a small Mexican restaurant and is didn't disappoint. I grew up in the area and we came here a few times but it wasn't our usual place of choice. This was back in the 90's. My husband and I haven't been to Luna's in about 10 years. It was always a reliably good restaurant. Tonight we went it and the smell of smoke was a little overwhelming. If you're sensitive to smoke you might want to be seated as far from the bar as possible. We started with iced tea and a margarita. My husband's margarita was okay, tasted mostly of powdered mix. To be fair, they had really nice Iced Tea. I ordered the Carne Guisada and hubby got Chicken Flautas. The Carne Guisada was just large chunks of tough sirloin tips with quite a bit of gristle - not much seasoning and no gravy. It was mostly a watery pool on my plate. It wasn't the worst I've ever had, but it's nothing I'd want to order again. My husband's flautas were good, but he said the guacamole was really, really bad. He loves guacamole so that was surprising. The beans and rice are good and our waiter was really attentive. I can't fault their service at all. It was just a little disappointing because parts of the food bordered on awful. Maybe we tried it on an off night, or maybe we should have ordered something else. Very extensive menu, but a very narrow range of taste. I got the chicken fajita salad for lunch (about $9) and it was just so bland. When it comes to Mexican food, I expect a little kick, but the salsa was barely a shuffle. The taco shell that held the salad together might have been the best part. It's a convenient place for the lunch crowd, as it is located in the corner of a strip full of healthcare offices. The atmosphere is dark but friendly, albeit not particularly efficient. I had to ask twice for a to-go box, as I watched the group of waiters, including ours, hanging out and talking, while we waited for our checks and boxes. I've gotten food to go here before and it was very good. We made the mistake of dining in and had an awful experience. No one took our drink orders or greeted us after we sat in a booth for over 10min. I finally had to flag down a manager to tell him no one had helped us, and he had to go grab some random waitress to take our order who seemed frustrated she had to take over our table. As you can imagine the service for the remainder of the meal was terrible and we ended up asking the bus boy for refills on drinks and chips. We told the manager about our experience and he didn't seem to care. Food was decent so I probably will never be back. I visit this place weekly (sometimes twice) because I live so close and I love Mexican food!! But after last night, NEVER EVER AGAIN!! I ordered my usual fajita nachos and there was hair in my food. I called and advised management. They offered to recook my order and I agreed (due to it being so late). Ate the second-order, no hair in the food but they must have given me a parting gift - FOOD POISONING. I have never been so sick in my life... Regurgitating all night, in the most violent way. My wife is very picky and she tries something new each visit and is always happy with what she gets. Our children are very pick too but they both love the chicken strips and French fries. My favorite Tex Mex spot in the area, I've been coming here since I was a kid. The Mexican Tacos with chicken are the BEST. And the veggie fajitas. And the margs. And the cheese enchiladas. I especially love how it's never crowded, "my" booth is always available, the waitstaff usually has a new interesting character in the rotation, and it never changes. Update- turns out it does get crowded! I just made it there on a Thursday night for the first time ever and it was full (but with no wait) and very alive. Great service in every way! The cleanliness in this restaurant needs work. The food is good I always get the Luna's sampler. Luna's is not your typical Mexican restaurant. In my opinion it has more a Tex-Mex style because of the way they cook things and fry just about EVERYTHING. It is definitely a good place to eat. read more
