This is a great little spot for Mexican food. The tacos and enchiladas are really tasty. I loved the Charro Beans. The hot sauce is spicy, but the green sauce needs some work. The service is good and the prices are really reasonable. I can't wait to come back to try another entree. read more

We come here often due to its location, not necessarily the food. The staff members are kind but can be forgetful. The owners are very sweet. Most people that dine here are BV locals. Everyone knows everyone. They'd benefit from Mr. Taffer or Irvine. read more

Great little place! No wait, good food, (see pics) fast service, and pleasant atmosphere. Don't get me wrong there are probably better Mexican restaurants, but they are not so close and welcoming as the Baja Cantina. It was a perfect end to the evening in the heat of Bayou Vista. This spot has seen some changes in recent years, but the current owners are doing a fantastic job. I recently visited for a birthday dinner with a group of 15, and they handled it beautifully. The U-shaped table layout was perfect for our group, and the service was exceptional despite the challenges of a large party. The food was delicious, especially the hot sauce and wings. This place was recommended to me by my hairdresser on Tiki Island. Baja Cantina is on Bayou Vista. It's a small, tucked in a strip mall restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining; it also has a bar area. The atmosphere is casual, small town dining and it appears to be the local "joint." I ordered quesadillas for my hubby. For myself, I order the Baja Plate which included a beef enchilada, crispy taco, chalupa, and cheese puff. We also ordered some queso for our tacos. My Baja Plate came with tomato, lettuce, sour cream, cheese and guacamole, as well as charro beans. Way more food than I needed! We were given chips and salsa when we sat down. The salsa had a pretty good kick to it. But the rest of our food had no heat at all. For us, this was perfect. We're old and have sensitive stomachs so not having all that heat was great. I loved having all the extras, too; something we don't get at true Mexican restaurants. Our server had the entire place to herself, but she had no trouble keeping us all happy. The place was not crowded on a Thursday at noon. Definitely, mostly locals at this time of the week. We will definitely go back. No, it's not fine dining, but it's good food at reasonable prices so I give it five stars for the type of restaurant it was. My boss organized a little birthday lunch for me here. Compliments to the chef; everything was delicious. He came outside to personally recommend one of his dishes (the chicken flour), and it was really good. Nice and cheesy, just the way I like it. The server was also really attentive to the table and brought out a special dessert plate put together by the chef. It was a bunch of different pastries that tasted delicious. We were outside, so I did not pay attention to what the ambiance was like inside, but I could see people walking in and out constantly. Texas heat is no joke, but we were nice and comfortable outside with the fans. Don't take my word for it during a heat wave, though; not sure I can say the same then. Pros- This spot has changed owners several times in the last 3-5 years. Checked it out again at a birthday dinner for a friend. We had a table of about 30. This is a small place and these people worked hard to get it right! The table was u shaped which helped with communicating amongst friends, but the wowzer was the service! There were a few hiccups with that many people but they did a wonderful job! The food was really good as well! Loved the hot sauce. We got wings at the suggestion of someone else and they were delish! We had so much fun I forgot pics! Will be back soon to try more food. Cons: No wine list, no knowledge of wine. This was no where near what Mexican food is. You walk in, no one is dressed in a uniform or anything that establishes them as a representative of Baja Cantina- we sat ourselves tonight... got our own menu.. however, when the waiter did come (had to say he was the waiter cause you'd never know otherwise), he was very friendly and helpful. As far as food, I'd never go eat there again. I got the tortilla soup and my friend got the fajitas combo... my soup was basically a chicken and vegetable soup, no flavor beyond chicken broth whatsoever. Big big fail because I eat tortilla soup A LOT and had high hopes. His "fajita combo" literally came as a plate of onions, chicken, and beef with a small portion of sides (pick, guac, cheese, three tortillas, refried beans, and rice. Honestly everything was lacking flavor. There was no authenticity to it. Even the salsa- which is a good way to judge a Mexican restaurant- was like watery tomato sauce. Two good things: the friendliness of the waiter and the margarita. If you're just looking for a bar with friends to get drunk at, you'll probably enjoy this place. Just the other night the waitress advised if we going going to order an appetizer, the wait would be 45 minutes! This is before the new owner had a full menu! Listen to your customers! We stopped here on the drive back to Houston from Galveston because the restaurants in Galveston were crowded and extremely overpriced. This is a nice, small neighborhood-type joint. Service was very friendly, but also slow and forgetful. The prices are very reasonable and the food and margaritas were good. I'd go back, but don't expect prompt service. I had a party for my 50 year old daughter and ordered taco meat, beans and rice from the Baja. I got a ton of extra stuff like tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, utensil packs etc. I didn't know all that was coming too. The food was delicious. All the guests raved about the meat and beans. I arrived on Tuesday, and was informed that Tuesday was Taco Tuesday! I asked the bar keep for her three favorites and I tried each one a la carte. Two of them were so good that I went back and ordered two more! There were no funny smells it was quiet the wait staff was very hospitable and the food was good. ask for some green sauce if you want to spice it up a little bit. Since the new owner took over this place has gone down hill. I have been in three times. I have walked out twice, Their menu is limited. They never have even the most common liquors. The last time I was in there they did not even have Jack Daniels. Not to mention they were using the cheap store brand sodas in the can and not the fountain system. The food is not that good and the owner/operator has a long shaggy beard that leaves hair in every thing. Hopefully this place will not make it through the winter, and we can get a new restaurant In our little community. read more
