Very attractive interior. Comfortable. Friendly and helpful wait staff. Fast service. I was disappointed by some of the food. Beef pho was good. Spring rolls and bun (grilled lemongrass chicken) were less so. A lot of chopped iceberg lettuce in the spring rolls, more lettuce than rice noodles; and they were clearly pre-made, not to order. The salad under the chicken was similarly iceberg lettuce with little character or flavor. There are better options in the city. Reasonable price for what you got. (For what it's worth, I've been to Viet Nam, and the food here in Wheaton was too Americanized for my taste.) read more

Staff is very nice and welcoming. The food varies from time to time, but overall it's a good place; been there many times. Sometimes the egg rolls are wonderful and other times the oil they're fried in is overused, giving an acrid taste, but it's not that often. The rice vinegar dipping sauce is delicious. read more

Since they moved across the street, LL has really upped their game! My fave is their Chicken Chow Fun. So many flavors and ample portions - a must-try. Atmosphere is a lively and open brick-walled space, and they fill up quickly so be prepared to wait during busy hours. Sometimes waitstaff, which I think are all family, musters a smile. Sometimes. Luong Loi seems to be run by a small family business - every time I come, we're served by incredibly sweet servers who always keep an eye on us to meet our every need when we want it. It's located in downtown Wheaton, so it has a close walking proximity to other local stores and coffee shops nearby. Super ideal spot, especially if you want a warm bowl of pho in the cold weather! One of my favorite appetizers here are their chicken wings delight--I don't know what it's in the sauce they fry their chicken in but it's so savory and delicious, and the fried onions that they're served with make it even better. I order it almost every time I come because the flavor is so good! Their iced coffee is also amazing. They mix it with condensed milk, so it's commonly called Vietnamese coffee. This is my go to for Asian take out when my suburban self is craving that big city hole in the wall take-out vibe. This is a long standing family run business in the area and they clearly put a lot of care and attention into their work. Food is always ready on-time, staff is friendly, and the food always hits the spot. My current obsessions are the popstickers and chicken fried rice. I find both to be flavorful and cooked just right. I'll also say the take-out container looks small but they pack an unholy amount in there! My partner and father-in-law (who has quite picky taste) also have loved every dish they've tried. I've never dined-in so I can't speak to that, the dining space is very small, but clean, tidy, and inviting looking. I've driven past here a few times and always tell myself that next time I'm looking for a place to eat at I will remember this. Well yesterday was the day. I was starving and did not know what I exactly had a taste for, started driving and I remembered this place. Was able to snag a parking spot not to far and we made our way over. The restaurant is very modern, bright and very welcoming. There was no one to seat us but we were acknowledged and were told to pick a seat, menus were on the table. It took a bit for someone to come over but it was ok because it gave us a chance to look over the menu. So many choices! I chose the egg drop soup to start with. OMG was it good!!! Full of flavor and a decent size. I've only had this soup from the delivery places by me and this blew all of them out of the ball park. For dinner we went with the Mongolian beef over rice and the grilled lemongrass chicken with rice noodles. Once again, this Mongolian beef didn't taste like any I've had before. It was rich, flavorful and a decent size portion. The lemongrass chicken was also delicious. It came with rice noodles, a carrot sauce, fresh sprouts and cucumber slices. This dish was something that I had never had before, I loved the taste of the carrot sauce, that's what the server called it, it was a simple sauce that went over the grilled chicken pieces and over the noodles. I really enjoyed how fresh and different this dish was. I was extremely satisfied with my meal and I will for sure be returning. Fresh, full of flavor and extremely affordable. read more

Overall this restaurant hasn't changed much since my last review and over the years. However, for me they have made an important change which has pushed it into the five star category. It used to be that the Pho came with rice noodles or egg noodles. I am a diabetic so it is better for me to have bean thread noodles. These noodles are made from beans instead of wheat and they are absolutely delicious! If you are vegan, vegetarian, or wheat intolerant you can get them with vegetables and tofu if you don't want them in a soup. I used to have to ask for the pho without noodles. Then I would have to purchase a side of bean thread noodles and add them to the pho. Now you have the ability to choose whichever noodles you want and they will be added. I went here with my sister for dinner on an early Friday evening. I love this restaurant. We ordered shrimp egg foo young, delicious, and the make it yourself spring rolls with beef, both delicious! The atmosphere is wonderful. AND one of the nice things is that there is no music from overhead speakers! I mean, how great is it to go in to a nice restaurant and be able to just listen to people dining and having conversations. This restaurant is a bit of an enigma. While the soup (wonton) I had was most flavorful, the egg rolls were such a greasy disgusting mess that I left them untouched on my plate. The vegetable fried rice seemed more like white rice with frozen vegetables thrown in and was completely lacking in flavor. The main dish I had, curry chicken was acceptable but nothing I would go back for. My other guests found their dishes disappointing as well in spite of the good reviews of this place. The kicker is when the staff cleaned up the tables. Two employees looked at my untouched egg rolls and then looked away immediately in an apparent attempt to avoid the painful question of whether or not we enjoyed the egg rolls. I did not eat them. I moved away from Wheaton before Luong Loi relocated across the street and I was concerned that their food may have changed. I'm visiting friends and family in the area and had a taste for their exquisite lemongrass chicken with onions. Plenty of tender chicken and perfectly sautéed onions! A beautiful balance of flavors and spices, super fresh, not overcooked and served HOT. Just the way I like it. There is a side of super crisp, chilled cucumber slices, very ripe fresh juicy tomato slices and crispy chopped lettuce. I like to mix the lettuce in with the chicken and onions. My appetizer is always the pork egg rolls with dipping sauce because the rolls are so tasty, crispy and hot, and the inside is a compact, flavorful mix of pork, shredded carrots and cabbage... they're so succulent you don't even need the dipping sauce, but if you do? Takes it over the top! Honestly, this meal is SO amazing I actually daydream about it since moving away because I haven't found the equivalent anywhere since... and BINGO! Just as I remembered! Honestly, I love this so much it's the only dish I can comment on, but give them a try and order your fave Vietnamese dish! The new place is a nice upgrade! It's a very warm, clean and inviting atmosphere with exposed old brick, wood floors, dark stained wooden tables and chairs, all softly lit by simple pendant lamps above each table. Check them out! Still my very favorite pho broth ever! Every herb is evident and the perfect balance of savory and sweet. We had to visit on a trip "home" for my son who was born in Hinsdale. They moved locations and we got there very late but the broth was still fantastic. We also had the wings and my son wanted more!!! In our short weekend there he wanted to go back and we had so many good food choices. Sadly we didn't get to go back but we ordered an extra order for him. We also had spring rolls . Very overpriced. Small portions. Won ton soup...wonton wrappers were all off and broken up and the filling presented as dry, tough, super dense meatballs with an odd flavor throughout. The Mongolian beef was mostly onions and the size was that of a small soup in an actual small soup clear container. Though sparse, the beef was tasty. The combo fried rice was oily, bland and the rice was too fried, to the point of being hard, maybe old. Sesame Chicken was meh, tasted like it was sitting around. The shrimp egg foo young was in a red sauce that was not pleasant at all and so that is going straight into the garbage. So disappointed. A nice and cozy restaurant with modern chic Vietnamese interior decorations. Conveniently located in the heart of Wheaton with plenty of parking is on the street. Came in for a lunch meeting on a weekday and the venue was clean and quiet, the service was professional and efficient. We ordered the traditional Pho and the portion was decent, generous amount of noodle, veggies and meat. The broth was clean, crisp, not too sweet or salty, so quite balanced. The pho is the rockstar here - the broth is flavorful and the meatball kind is particularly great. Shrimp toast is tasty - hush-puppy like with a mild shrimp flavor and a light batter. The pork wonton soup is also very good. Skip the crab asparagus soup as it's very fishy tasting with inappetizing lumps. Cute place, nice service. Luong Loi is one of our favorite places. The food is great and the staff very friendly. There is a special, low-priced lunch menu with 8 or 10 choices at a fixed price. Two of our neighbors had them cater their wedding reception they liked Luong Loi food so much. My favorite is the Vietnamese pork chops with shredded pork skin, 2 or 3 thin-cut pork chops in an Asian BBQ-type sauce over rice and a wonderful dipping sauce. My wife's is the beef on rice noodles, with grilled beef strips on top of the noodles and bean sprouts. We live in another town but go to Wheaton just to get the carry-out meals at Luong Loi. We look forward to dining inside there again--it's a cosy place with nice photos of Vietnam scenes and people. If I were ever on Check Please, this is the place I would recommend. read more

We love Luong Loi! First and foremost, they treat you very well there as their servers make sure that you're taken care of throughout your visit. Having dined there three times since this summer, they are consistent about every plate that is cooked. I had the Mongolian beef. The protein is prepared with a sweet & savory sauce along with onions and on a bed of rice. So simple and flavorful! We've also had the chow fun. Luong Loi (the old location) used to be my togo place for Pho and Com. So when I found out that they were closed for good, I was really heartbroken. A couple weeks ago, I was messing around with the Yelp app, searching for new and hot businesses around the area and I happened to stumble upon this place. I was so excited, the first thing I did was texted one of my friends and told her that we need to check this place out. We ended up going here the following weekend. The new location is literally across the street from the old one. I really like the interior designs of this place. It seems so much bigger and cleaner compares to the old one. We started off with Spring Rolls and it was decent. It was not OMG amazing, but at the same time, it was not horrible. I actually prefer the Spring Rolls at Green Basil a little bit more. However, I actually like the Com Suon Nuong at this place a lot more. The Com Suon Nuong comes with a pork chop and shredded pork. For a dollar more, you can add an egg or the Vietnamese sausages. Two of my friends ended up ordering the soups. They said the soups were decent, however, the soups itself were not hot enough. We have been going to Luong Loi for at least 25 years and absolutely love it. We especially love their fresh spring rolls, Vietnamese pancakes, soups. The egg drop is the best I've had & the only one that I'll order now... it's topped with crunchy fresh roasted garlic which gives it a truly unique twist. The service is always welcoming & friendly. Since Covid, we've been very selective on which restaurants we'll do carryout from as we are not comfortable with dining in or even outdoors yet and Luong Loi is one that we are in our comfort zone. It appears that they're only doing carryout/curbside pick up now and everything was clean & safe. They have everything set up at the doorway, including sanitized pens and warm friendly smiles behind the masks! The soup was not as flavorful as other pho broths I've had, and I thought the pho itself didn't have enough meat/veggies compared to the noodles. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. Wow! This place is very affordable (Pho is $8-9), and has great food. The spring rolls are a good appetizer, and the pho (both the special and the regular) have good amounts of meat and delicious taste. Just writing this review is making my mouth water. I like how they have a variety of dishes on their menu, from pho to fried rice, to other Chinese dishes. Selection is good. Service is friendly, and the place has a nice atmosphere. I would not recommend the shrimp toast as an appetizer, and it seems to be basically just fried dough balls (was there even shrimp in it??). read more
