My favorite of the dishes was the Homestyle Tofu, my husband's favorite was the Sizzling Black Pepper Beef. The Red Pepper version of braised pork belly was interesting, I've never had it with potatoes and with the bright red dye. It was tasty, but the bright red color was a little jarring compared to the natural brown-ish colors I'm used to seeing when my MIL cooks a similar dish braised in soy sauce. I can't speak to the service, but the food was decent and the portions are generous. Next time I'd love to try their bbq meats (like roast duck and roast pork) and any/all their tofu dishes and vegetarian dishes. I have a hunch that despite featuring Chinese BBQ, that they do vegetarian and tofu dishes really well. They offer mainstream "american chinese" options like orange chicken and Mongolian beef, as well as more traditional Chinese fare like tripe, wood ear salad, szechuan dishes, cumin lamb, etc. For a take out order that lasts us a few days and is very convenient for two busy parents, this was great for us. We found this spot in Lisle and headed straight there. We were 2 adults doing the AYCE ($40/per person). This meal set included choice of unlimited meat, banchan, rice, fluffy egg, veggie pancake, and certain salads. Other items were à la carte like their cold noodles ($5) and lettuce to wrap your meat or kimchi jigae, if you wanted to supplement the basic set. The food was so fresh. The banchan tasted like it was made by my friend's mom (highest compliment), and the meat was delicious. We chose bulgogi, and garlic marinated beef and an unmarinated one. There is a warning that they would charge if there were too many leftovers, so we were careful not to over-indulge since we were just 2 people. I absolutely LOVED the cold noodles. The soup was slightly sweet, buckwheat noodles were so chewy as intended (I was able to eat this without cutting it out with scissors) and included a half hard-boiled egg, slice of Korean pear, and slivers of cucumber. I would come back just for this dish. I was tempted to get the kimchi jigae but knew I wouldn't have room, and also it was sweltering hot outside, in the middle of summer. The service was friendly and quick. We came on the early side, around 6pm so the place was not packed yet with larger dinner parties. Our cups were kept filled with water and we were checked on frequently; our grill was cleaned as needed. This is a spot where I'd love to bring my parents when they visit the burbs (frame of reference is that they love San Soo Gab San in North Park). On the inside of the restaurant, there were tons of 4x6 print outs of customers over the years. I loved the family-friendly aspect of Seocho Garden. I had to ask for water, and thank God I'm over 21 because I ordered sake through the tablet and nobody ever checked my ID. (So yeah... if I were a parent, I wouldn't let my teenager go here alone.) The part that didn't piss me off? They had a great variety on the AYCE menu, and the sushi had the perfect rice-to-fish ratio--so bravo for that. Some places give you almost double the rice they should, which honestly feels a little insulting. If I'm paying for sushi, I want to taste the fish, not fill up on rice.
