I'm glad I waited because my options expanded to the entire menu, not just a one-off veggie dish!! Everything me and my partner tried was delicious. The service was so welcoming, kind, and hospitable. The place was nearly empty when we arrived and got a couple more tables during our stay. There was music on and off. It didn't feel air conditioned. To meat eaters: I understand the letdown of the menu you once loved changing drastically, and I know, who are you to trust me... but please don't write Luong Loi off completely. Maybe for one of the times when you go out to eat or order food, you can try doing veggie and support this lovely place. :-) For the appetizer, we were recommended the Mushroom Pani Puri. It was savory, great textures, with a very tiny bit of spice. For my partner's entree, he got the Fresh Rice Noodle with Crispy Rolls & Vegan Ribs. He loved it. I tried the vegan rib and it was delicious! For my entree, I got the Half-Moon Tofu Fried Rice with Vegetables & Vegan Sausage. This was so yum, great combo of flavors, savory and smokey, and the eggy crispy tofu was really great! Drink: Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk, brewed at our table with a Vietnamese phin filter that's placed over the cup. Stirred and poured over ice for a cold drink. Used to our goto for pho in Wheaton. Today's experience was more than odd. 4 children less than 6 yo running around the restaurant unsupervised, teenager taking orders who got 50% of order wrong then we sat there waiting for 30 minutes for food then had to give up, an older woman who came out of nowhere yelling at us if we were done eating- while waiting for food that never came out. Something out of a sitcom. Left the place hungry and more exhausted than when we entered. But the kids were cute. Menu has completely changed and they did not have any meat based items it seemed. We can't understand why they didn't change the name and logo. Kind of deceiving. I was expecting that on a Saturday night it would be hard to get seated. It was cool to drive through downtown and see so many people out and about and the restaurants all busy! But when we got into Luong Loi, only one table had diners. The server who approached showed me the new menu and asked if we had been there recently. Then proceeded to tell us of the changes! I ordered the lemongrass beef with rice noodles and started with the spring rolls -- always here for a good peanut sauce, and this one definitely delivered. I asked them to surprise me with either wonton or egg soup, and the wonton soup totally hit the spot as a perfect way to start the meal. The ambiance is cozy and relaxed -- nothing flashy, just a comfortable, neighborhood spot where you can actually enjoy your meal and conversation without feeling rushed or cramped. The natural light by the window on a nice day makes it even better. Plenty of parking in the area with street parking and a lot just around the corner, which is always a win. We were seated quickly, and the staff was super friendly and attentive with refills. Service was swift, and getting a window seat on a nice day was such a bonus. We were excited to find a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Wheaton. The servers were friendly, quickly brought water & menus, took our orders, and delivered our food. The restaurant is spacious with lots of tables - very clean & nicely decorated. Free street parking is available in front of the store. The reason I gave three stars is the taste of the food. It was okay, but nothing that WOW'd us. The egg drop soup that came with the lunch combination was tasty, but the grilled lemongrass chicken was just okay in taste and a bit overcooked. For the price we paid, we wouldn't complain. The lunch combination is a good value. Just manage your expectations, especially if you're from Southeast Asia. read more

The new menu changed to plant based this week under new owners. This makes this a very special place now in the Chicago vietnamese restaurant scene, as I don't know if any other strictly vegetarian Vietnamese restaurants in the Chicago suburbs (the family told me they also run 2 vegetarian restaurants in Vietnam). We were in the area meeting folks, and decided to drop by to support a local Vietnamese restaurant. When we came in we were trying to figure out how to to be seated as everyone was busy working. We walked up to the counter and they welcomed us to be seated anywhere. After sitting they offered water and various canned drinks. As we perused the menu. We started with the beef lemon grass skewers and they are delicious. The meat was juicy and the flavors were spot on. The veggies under the skewers helped balance all of the flavors. After that they bought the Vietnamese sour soup with catfish. Such a nostalgic dish with my family and I was so excited to enjoy it. They presented it in a nice soup container and brought out rice. They had jalepenos on top for you to decide how spicy you wanted your soup. It was delicious, I stopped myself to eat the other dishes and was so excited to have it for lunch the next day. We also got the pork lemongrass pork chop rice dish. This plate was huge and enough for my husband and I to share. The pork was flavorful and the fish sauce was perfect to tie in all of the traditional flavors. I was also craving walnut shrimp and it was delicious. The only thing that threw me off was the pineapple, and the cherries on top of it. But the shrimp wasn't too battered and was full of flavor with the sauce. Each of the dish came with rice so we had plenty to enjoy. While we were there tons of people came in, so exciting to see such a well loved local business. I come here once a year when visiting family. Pho is great as well as the pork and shrimp pancakes. I haven't tried too many things on their menu but what I have tried has been awesome. Service is quick and prices are lower than what see on the east coast. If I lived in Wheaton I would come and eat at this restaurant every week. Highly recommended! read more

I enjoyed the pancakes, the fresh spring rolls, and a tofu dish surrounded by fake bacon! My wife eats a low salt diet and staff took the time to lead her to the least salty dishes. Mongolian beef is superb, the pork and shrimp spring rolls are a refreshing appetizer and the beef skewers are tender and so richly flavored. The pork fried rice is out of this world! All the vegetables are finely chopped so you don't get a big chunk of carrot unexpectedly, also deep rich flavor from a properly seasoned wok. Shrimp Chow Fun was perfectly crispy on the outside while being tender and delicious inside. Beef pho was also perfectly seasoned with a deep flavorful broth. Also would love if they offered mint leaves in more dishes. Yes, parking in downtown Wheaton is a problem but there are spots to the north near the library so combine the two. It was a cold and windy Wednesday night and I needed some hot broth and good food. We were greeted by a friendly elderly gentleman and his son who said we could sit anywhere we wanted. The restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese and Chinese food. Everything on the menu looked delicious. Apps: Chicken Wing Delight: chicken was served hot and it had a light crispy batter. Loved the sautéed onions on there too. There is a light drizzle of oyster sauce and thankfully it was only a drizzle bc it was so so salty! Maybe if I had eaten it was a side of rice it would have balanced out the flavors. 7/10 Banh Xeo (pork and shrimp pancakes): These delightfully crispy pancakes were super stuffed with bean sprouts, steamed shrimp, and pork. Accompanied by nuoc cham (Vietnamese fish sauce) and fresh vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised that they used char siu, and have absolutely no complaints about it. It added lots more flavor to the pancakes. Made a wrap using the lettuce and stuffed it banh xeo, Thai basil, and cilantro and dunked it in the the delicious fish sauce. 8.5/10 Dinner: #18 Special beef pho: As soon as the server set the bowl down I got a pho steam facial. The broth was hot and fragrant, and the taste was unbelievably comforting. Broth was clean and it warmed my soul up with each slurp. The variety of meats were tender, and I also added meatballs. The pho did not need anything else to doctor it up. Just a handful of bean sprouts and some fresh Thai basil with a squeeze of lime. 9/10 I would definitely make the drive out to Wheaton to eat here again. Was in the downtown Wheaton area for a yelp experience, and it was a cold windy night. We decided to stop into Luong Loi for a nice warm bowl of pho. We were greeted by an elderly gentleman that told me I can pick anywhere to sit. Luong Loi offers popular Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. It all sounded delicious. We started with the shrimp and pork pancakes, and the Chicken Wing Delight. The pancakes (Banh Xeo) were a hit. It consisted of 2 rice flower crepes stuffed with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts served with lettuce, cilantro and basil. The chicken wings had a nice light crispy batter covered with sauteed onions and a light drizzle of oyster sauce. The sauce was definitely needed because the wings were very salty. I could only eat one. We followed the apps up with a nice warm bowl of the special beef pho. Once the bowl is placed in front of you, you are instantly hit by the aroma of the broth. Let me tell you...it was LOVE AT FIRST SLURP!! So warm, clean, and refreshing. You know it's a great broth when you don't need to add any additional sauces. Just a handful of bean sprouts and a few basil leaves does the trick. The staff at Luong Loi goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, and their authentic dishes are nothing short of amazing. read more

We strayed from our typical go tos to give this Chinese / Vietnamese spot a shot and it didn't disappoint. Food was good. The service was prompt. Restaurant is situated in the downtown area of Wheaton which I thought was a cute area. Highlight for me would be the beef pho. Broth was delicious. Meat quality was good and served with all the fresh toppings and sauces (hoisin & sriracha) you'd expect to adjust to your taste. The lemongrass pork appetizer was nice to start with. The fried rice my son throughly enjoyed. The duck noodle soup was okay. The pan fried seafood noodles were average and not much noodles to be honest. We dined in at Luong-Loi Vietnamese Cuisine for the first time, though we've ordered takeout from here during the Covid shutdowns. I remember them bringing food to our car in the middle of winter when dining in was forbidden, so it was nice to finally enjoy a hot meal inside. I had the #62 Shrimp Your Way, Kung Pao style. I've had that dish at a lot of different carry-outs, and it was great here. Hot, fresh, and perfectly spiced. The #16 Wonton Soup was also excellent. Our waiter was kind and polite, and the hot jasmine tea was a nice touch. Great food and a welcoming atmosphere. read more

This is not your typical Vietnamese restaurant though they do offer pho, if you really must. This spot is located in downtown Wheaton and is reasonably priced. Luong-Loi has some Chinese items on the menu, but it's Americanized stuff. Shrimp spring rolls are a must have app so I got that to start and it was tightly wrapped and fresh. Peanut sauce is always different place to place and here it's more like sweet and sour sauce. Shortly after getting the spring rolls, our main entrees were already served. Love it when I don't have to wait forever for my food. My friend had the beef pho, and it's his go to dish every time. It was hot outside so I went with the lemongrass pork vermicelli plate which is normally served in a bowl at most other Viet places. It was good, but just know that this dish is warm. I thought it would have been a room temp or cold dish like other spots, but I guessed wrong. Still good though! All in all, solid place for Wheaton folks to get their Viet on, but it was a little humid inside when I was here on a hot April day. read more

Although I have tried many things on the menu over tine, we get the Pho Tai, maybe the banh xeo pancake, maybe the grilled lemongrass pork noodle salad, they are always good. I recently came here on a cool night during a business trip to Naperville. The restaurant is in the cute downtown of Wheaton and it is, itself, a cute and cozy restaurant. The service was friendly while they were doing quite a lot of takeout orders. I ordered the Spring Rolls and the Shrimp and Crab Clear Noodle soup. The Spring Roll was fresh and delicious! The Shrimp and Crab Clear Noodle Soup had a deep and flavorful broth, sizable (but not plentiful) shrimp, a handful of shredded crab meat, and fish and shrimp balls. It was wonderful and just what I needed to warm my body and soul. Luong Lou is not on my list of regular places to stop when I'm doing business in Naperville. read more

I got to try 2 bowls of noodles here. Both are fairly low quality. Quality- the duck was completely over cooked, skin wasn't crispy, and the north tasted really watered down. The meatball pho had decent broth and it is hard to screw up meatballs. Quantity- you don't get a lot for how much you pay for here. The noodles could have filled up the bowl more and I could have gotten an extra piece of duck. ~13 bucks for each bowl. Atmosphere- good. It is nice and clean inside Service- pretty fast. The food here is Vietnamese and Chinese fusion and I would rank it a step above your average Chinese take out place. Since it is a blend, dishes were not exactly what I expected, but they had quality ingredients and good flavor. Service was friendly and my water glass never went empty. The inside is spacious and brightly lit. Egg Drop Soup $5 - The portion is big, literally a Corelle 18oz bowl filled to the rim. It doesn't taste like the common egg drop and doesn't have the yellow coloring. I did enjoy the strong garlic flavor, but would want to try the other soups next time. Egg Roll (2) $6 - Great egg roll, crispy and has all the things I like in the filling. A bit pricey. Orange Chicken $12.50 - White meat chicken, lightly breaded. I prefer my OC not to be covered in sauce, but the chicken tasted good, still slightly crispy on the outside. There is no veggie in this dish and is served with rice. Kung Pao Shrimp $12.50 - Very affordable price for a shrimp dish. I would have liked a higher level of spiciness and less sauce, but overall tastes good. We were walking down the street at saw this traditional Vietnamese & Chinese Cuisine restaurant and had to stop in for a bite. My husband and I love Vietnamese Egg Rolls and we're so happy to see them on the menu! They are so crispy, temperature hot, and delicious. I was drinking water while chewing them so I would not burn my mouth. I did not have the patience to wait for them to cool, they were THAT GOOD yummy! The dipping sauce is sweet and had shredded carrots in it which really complemented the taste! My husband ordered the Yang Chow Fried Rice and loved it! The veggies were chopped so fine and it melted in your mouth. This is his favorite fried rice so far! I ordered the Special Beef Pho and is was perfect! Just the right amount of spice as well as the right temperature hot too. When we finished eating we were given two fortune cookies. I've only ever had one dish here: grilled lemongrass chicken. Over rice, over noodles, as an appetizer. It's the absolute best! They lose a star because there's zero sense of urgency to clean after a table leaves. I've walked in several times before to a dirty table or two. I don't love that.
