Chanced upon Lupe Tortilla on a late Friday night around 10pm looking for a solid sit-down meal. We were greeted by our server, Santiago, and treated to a thoroughly exceptional meal. Santiago, upon hearing it was our first visit, insisted on providing us a sample of their famous beef fajitas and a serving of their delicious queso. The beef fajitas were so flavorful I changed my order to the Al carbon tacos with beef fajitas. My partner ordered the fajita burrito and was very pleased- the serving size is huge! The atmosphere is very fun, I recommend sitting on the patio if the weather permits. Pro tip- if you want a free serving of queso choose to sit at the bar! I don't usually go to Lupe Tortilla because it a bit beyond my eating out budget, however, when we do go we get the beef fajitas. I've been disappointed with the chicken fajitas in the past but the beef doesn't miss. My family got the 1.5 LB beef fajitas and it came with a good sized portion of refried beans and rice. Getting seated took a while, though it was Saturday evening (7pm) and we had a party of about 15 adults and 3 children. Our server, Raymundo, was the best. He was quick and accurate. We also found out that he attends Texas State (Go Cats Go!). Inside of the restaurant, I felt that the music in our room was a too loud. Stopped by for happy hour and our server, Heylie was great! I was disappointed with the happy hour items. The menu seemed to be pretty limited and didn't include any snacks. The watermelon margarita on the rock was huge but so good. Presentation was pretty as well! We started off with the ground beef queso with guac and we wiped the bowl clean. I swapped out the brisket for cheese due to tooth issues, and because all I can get in TN is blanco cheese. The meal was perfect! First were the chips with two dips, one of which was full of beans! My enchiladas came with potatoes! After I polished off the two enchiladas, I mixed the potatoes with the left over cheese and sauce! Just excellent! Customer service was good as the manager brought out two samples of beef fajitas. My girlfriend thought the beef was too chewy and spit it out. I thought it was chewy but not inedible. We both thought the beef fajitas were too spicy so I requested no Pico de gallo on my entree. It was perfect and I loved the lime marinade in the beef. I obviously once liked this restaurant, a great deal it seems, because I stop in every few months to see if they are still implementing an absurd and indefensible policy with regard to credit card security. A quick pop in for a drink at the bar this week confirmed YES they are; they will ask for the three digit CVV credit card security code (the one you may be asked to enter securely in an ONLINE encrypted purchase) and THEY WRITE IT ON THE SIGNED VOUCHER THEY RETAIN when they close your tab. Every time. I paid cash for my Margarita thanks. This obvious violation of credit card security for card-present transactions was explained to me by their manager as "we don't do EMV chips yet so this is for our protection" This is nonsense. The card is swiped--it is then part of a secured, validated, card-present signed-voucher transaction. Lupe's failure to provide Chip readers is simply their personal decision to take on that potential liability for a fake card (VERY rare) themselves a shift that occurred in 2015. Yelp will not allow me to post a photo here of credit card security standard practice (https://i.imgur.com/YQHQ1fd.jpg) that warns against sharing your three digit code in any cardpresent transaction so I'll just have to tell you again.: don't allow this. I run a restaurant and I ran one for 20 years without a chip reader and never once asked any customer for their three digit CVV security code. Nor has any restaurant I have EVER visited in any state (or any country for that matter) besides this one. So fair warning, they're still doing this. When we got there they had no one assigned to the patio but the nice manager brought us water, chips, and salsa while they figured out the server situation out. We had a nice server who took good care of us (in turn we took very good care of her tip) and we enjoyed the food. For 4 of us (1 small kid) 1.5lbs of beef brisket was more than enough. Came here for a work lunch today and really enjoyed everything we tried. The service was great and they did an awesome job accommodating a large group. Our food came out pretty quickly and our waiter was on top of it when it came to refilling drinks and salsa. They brought out chips and salsa and beans when we sat down and both were great. We also got an order of queso for the table which was good. I got the chicken soft taco enchiladas, confusing name, but they were really good! Huge serving and had a ton of chicken in the enchiladas. We went to Lupe Tortilla for brunch on Saturday. The service was top notch from the greeter to our server Liandra. She was friendly, frank and accommodating. She always showed up to check in on us but did not hover! She even went and asked the kitchen and bar for some answers we asked for. It was refreshing to have such a genuine person! Our food was amazing we ordered the omelette with mushrooms, beans, corn and artichoke and were surprised the flavor was so good! We also ordered the 4 oz. carne asada w egg your way and it came out on a skillet grilled to perfection. Both plates came with home style potatoes and refried black beans both delicious. The tortilla that came with the carne asada was delicious big and homemade. For drinks I ordered the whipped capuchino with alcohol and we also had a coffee with Kahlua! Both so tasty! I just had my birthday dinner here over the weekend and it went very well. I've come to Lupe's often, but it's been for a meal with maybe 1-2 other people. For my birthday however, we had 25 people in our group, and things went very well. The hosts were friendly when we arrived, the bartenders were informative and fast with getting our pre-dinner drinks out, our servers during dinner were incredible, and the kitchen staff got every request for appetizers and meals out promptly. I feel like there should be at least some warning so we were prepared. When asked if they had more normal size, they said no, and they would have to make them and charge us. If that's your thing, fine, just communicate it. We asked for ice cream for the kid at the table and it took a few rounds to actually get it. Clearly forgot about.
