About a month ago I bought an old Forrest Service pickup truck -- site unseen and 400 miles or so away in Central Idaho (I live in Portland, Oregon). I figured the easiest (reasonably affordable) way to get the (very large) truck home would be to find a good auto service/repair shop nearby, have them get it roadworthy, then drive it home. Lewiston seemed to be the closest town of size to have some choices for repair shops, and seeing review on an online map (that starts with a G and almost rhymes with Bugle) the several reviews for Luper Automotive were all positive. Note: I usually go to Yelp! for reviews, but there were only two at the time). I gave Luper Auto a call a week before heading to get the truck and talked to Dawn -- a service manager -- who welcomed the business, and was very helpful throughout this adventure. After dealing with the logistics of getting the truck to Luper Auto, I returned home and left the truck with them for a couple of weeks, and although our business was conducted remotely -- phone calls, voicemails and emails -- I always felt that Dawn was by my side. They recommended a few minor and one somewhat major repair to make it roadworthy -- all at reasonably priced parts & labor -- and helped facilitate getting some odd-sized tires installed and a last minute add-on that I requested when I returned to drive it home. Unforeseeable, and unrelated to their work, the truck broke down the evening I picked it up and was heading back home -- about 30 miles away and after hours. I had it towed back to Luper Automotive -- dreading the thought of needing a new transmission, or at least some major transmission repair. Luper Automotive could easily have suggested those and I would have paid -- but it turned out to be a minor issue. They had a service technician in early the next day, fixed my truck, and I was back on the road (and made it all the way home without issue). All-in-all, it was a great experience to work with the fine people at Luper Automotive. They were straight forward and honest about what I needed (and didn't need) to have done. They did good work, charged fair prices, then went beyond the call of duty to expedite work so I could get back on the road and stick to my travel plans. Woo hoo! My only regret is they are 348 miles from home -- a little too far to make them my regular shop, but if YOU live (or break down) anywhere near Lewiston, I highly recommend bringing your auto/truck service, maintenance and/or repair work to them. read more

Shad at Luper made everything very easy. I scheduled an appointment via email and all the work I needed done was completed the same day. He stayed in communication with me during the day while my truck was in the shop to let me know what the service tech found while diagnosing the problems. When I picked it up, I got a list of other issues they found along with a reasonable assessment of how urgent each issue was. I will definitely be bringing my truck back in the future. read more

To be honest I don't know what was going on. I went to Luper Automotive Service to have them work on my vehicle. They were trying to charge me more than I was quoted. When I explained it to them the guy went into the other room and came out a few minutes later. He said he made the adjustment and realized it wasn't calculated right. The charges were still within the same outrageous price. I told him I'm not paying for what he was charging and he recalculated it and raised the price even more. I am not sure how they could make 3 different quotes on the same job. = After going through that it left me wondering no matter what I said would it have been the same cost? Who knows. All I know is they will not get my business and if anyone asks me for a mechanic I will warn them first of Luper Automotive Service to stay very clear from them because I don't trust that they are honest and I will refer them to a better mechanic. read more

Didnt even have work done! Called to get a quote and the nice man I spoke to referred me to a shop that he felt could get my particular problem done with a bit more ease. So nice to know that decent caring people still exist! If i ever have another issue, I will definitely be calling Luper! read more

For my personal vehicles, I only use this this garage. They are a little bit more expensive than others, but they have a 2 year 24k miles warranty on all new parts and labor. They tell me honestly what needs replaced and what can wait. They pick up my car, perform the maintenance, then return it washed and vacuumed out to the place where they picked it up at. They also have the latest in the computer updates for most vehicles. read more

Use At Your Own Peril! Luper Brothers is as "crooked as a dog's hind leg!" While repairing a vibration damper over a one-week in-shop period ($500 repair), they noted on their inspection report, "no oil registering on dip stick"...but failed to add oil, or to even mention it to us! While driving 12 miles away from their shop at 65 MPH on U.S. Highway 12, the car seized and the engine froze, ruining the engine. Luper Brothers claimed that it was likely something "other than oil" that caused the damage...and, in small claims court, they stated that since the "Inspection Report" was nice, but not necessary, that they had no obligation to add oil...what a load of baloney! Their nice-but-not-necessary omission has cost us a $5,000 vehicle. Shame on you, Luper Brothers! How can you look in the mirror every day, knowing what you're costing your customers and your community. A word to the wise....use Luper Brothers Automotive at your OWN extreme peril! read more

warning! expensive upsellers! the service 'seems' good, but the communication with customers is poor and they are all about upselling. first visit I asked them to check everything and call me with cost. they did that so I thought, except when I arrived to pick up my truck they told me it needed the transmission fluid changed next. they apologized foyer missing it at the beginning. so then back for another apptmt. then we take it in to have the spare put back under the truck after a flat, and they tell us we need a 230 dlr nut kit. my husband talks to the mechanic who tells him it probably just needs to be cleaned. my husband takes it home and cleans the nut assembly and it works like new leaving us wondering why the office told us we needed the new 230 dlr assembly. then we had the spark plugs changed last sept. now they are saying the spark plug wires are bad, the fuel filter is bad, etc etc to the tune of 700 dlrs. while the mechanics seem good, the office staff that spend their time upselling should be fired so the money is better spent giving the guys who do the work extra pay! expensive upselling and so not worth the deception. be honest with your customers like cooper/perfection tire and auto repair and then you too will have a two week wait because of so many customers. auto and rec vehicle repair is already expensive, who needs upselling along with it. go se cooper/perfection in lewiston! it's worth it! read more
