We had a bad experiences from another place nearby but this saved the weekend. The tacos was solid. We got the "regular" (lettuce, tomatoes and onions, etc) with our steak, chicken and fish tacos. The fried fish tacos was the tastiest of the bunch. Steak and chicken seems to be missing a bit of seasoning but nothing a little hot sauce can't fix. Well we made this a destination for dinner on a drive from Boston to Bangor to get some Mexican. Never been to Hampton beach it's beautiful but very commercial. This is right on the main drag across from the ocean be prepared to pay to park a ways away and walk. That said I'm not opposed to that for the amazing location, but felt a bit let down on the food. The place looks like a very funky chic fusion Mexican place, trendy. Great view too. Huge bar and everyone was very friendly. One of our party is recovering from a bone marrow transplant and can't eat anything spicy and we asked what was spicy and the server assured us none of it was spicy, and RT was all very authentic. This threw me as it didn't look authentic but I was prepared to be surprised with the reviews. She got the Mexican fish and chips, and here starts the problem. Not only was the breading on the fish spicy, the fries were seasoned to be very spicy too. All this after the request to not have it spicy she was not able to eat any of it and was too timid to ask for something else. I got the quesadilla with carne Asada, this was very good. I got the small and it was more then enough for one person. Highly recommend. We also got the smothered burrito which was just okay, nothin to write home about. So long story short I see this place as a great late night place to eat after drinking or a great tequila bar. But don't go out of your way for the food. And please be honest about the spicy food for those that ask. read more

Best non-overpriced-fried-seafood joint on the beach. Vampire tacos were delicious! Margs were great! Chips - warm and fresh. Salsa - yum, especially the green one. Black beans could use some seasoning or crumbled cotijo, but hey, add some hot sauce and we're good. Let me just start off this with, I'm from New Mexico and we were on our honeymoon driving up the New Hampshire coast. We stopped in Hampton after visiting Boston for a few days. I was feeling some Mexican food, due to the "lack of" on the east coast. We ended up at this place Lupe 55, after speaking with the manager he explained the owner was born in White Sands, NM and raised in So-Cal. I got excited. I was certain this was the place and I wasn't disappointed! The tacos were authentic street tacos and were exactly what I was looking for! The green sauce wasn't green chile but was amazing with the just the right amount of heat (made fresh daily). The staff was extremely friendly and the food was amazing! My sister and I stopped in here on a Wednesday night at about 7:30. There was no line and the cashier was very friendly. She ordered chicken tacos and I ordered a vegetarian burrito. Thank the lawd for this place. My only fret is that it's far from me. Let me start with saying: Tapatio. They have Tapatio hot sauce! When I saw it I knew I was home. I'm from LA so finding really good authentic Mexican food was worrying me when I made the move. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos *OG Style* which is onion and cilantro only (the real way). Not the other way which was like lettuce and other stuff I don't remember. I slathered it with Tapatio and inhaled them. It came out after my boyfriend had already finished his carne asada burrito because they were making more carne asada. I didn't mind. We had chips and salsa as well. The chips were too salty and salsa meh but lived with it. The massive burrito was also really good except they should use the diced taco meat texture in it as well. My boyfriend said the big cuts of meat made the burrito hard to eat. So only qualm is the texture! But taste was excellent. For all around 25$ we got a bottle of soda, 3 carne asada tacos, a massive carne asada burrito, and chips and salsa. Can't wait to come back to get my fix these upcoming warmer months. read more

I ordered the haddock burrito and was very pleased. My daughter got a rice bowl with chicken. It was a decent size and more than she could eat. I got to try it and it tasted phenomenal! Authentic, delicious Mexican food! I ordered the rice bowl with pollo (chicken), my friend ordered the fried haddock tacos, and we shared chips with guacamole. The chicken was cooked to perfection and spiced well; it was served over Spanish rice, beans, and salsa. The guacamole was refreshing, with a hint of cilantro and lime. Saw this place opened up near where we usually stay and I was super excited not to have to walk 1.5 miles to get to Lupe's anymore. I wish I made the hike though. Having tried their tacos at last years seafood fest (and loved them), I was anxious to try out the cantina. I had the steak taco platter which put a smile on my face having finally found outstanding, legit Mexican food on the East Coast! I grew up in SoCal and lived in San Diego for years and know Mexican food and this is my new favorite place. My wife had their take on fish and chips w a jalapeño tartar sauce and it was delicious as well. Can't wait to try the burritos and everything else on the menu. Margaritas were outstanding and nice pours. Chips and guacamole were delicious and fresh and their salsa is great along w the bottle of dark hot sauce on the table. Authentic, fresh, delicious, and made with love in a warm and friendly atmosphere. I reside in an area with a plethora of authentic Mexican food, but Lupe's blows them out of the water. These folks whip up a stellar veggie taco for those straying away from meat, and they offer corn tortillas for your gluten free needs. If you're lucky, you can get yourself a freshly tapped coconut or a jar of Mama Lupe's homemade salsa, bottled because of high demand from guests. You won't be disappointed! read more

My first encounter with Lupe's was also their first encounter with Seafood Festival in the summer of 2015. I remember going back for their haddock fish tacos multiple times because they were so good. Thankfully with Lupe's opening up their permanent location afterwards I can get them any time! My most recent experience was their rice bowl - delicious rice, beans, crispy green, cilantro, lime, chicken (or the other meats they offer), and where the money is at: Mama Lupe's salsa verde. Lupe's 55 has quickly become my absolute favorite spot for delicious food on Hampton Beach. Mexican food of this caliber doesn't come too often in NH so this place is a gem in the rough (surrounded by bland, boring beach food and deep fried garbage). Everything tastes so fresh and the whole staff is very friendly and welcoming. I'll be going back to Lupe's many, many times. read more

I had one of the most ridiculously surreal experiences of my life at lupes last week. After getting engaged to my amazing fiance on hampton beach, we decided to go to lupes to celebrate. We had been to lupes several times last year and had nothing but great things to say about the establishment. On 7/15, we arrived with our elated families to find an almost empty restaurant. We proceded to take our seats at seperate tables and were excited to celebrate. However, from the get go, we were treated with nothing but disrespect. We were ignored by the unprepared staff as we were forced to find our own menus as we waited 10 minutes for a server. Next thing I know, an extremely rude and gruff manager informed us we had too big of a party and that we would have to leave. Understandably, we were taken aback and embarrassed as we were forced to walk out of the restauran. I have never in my life been treated so unprofessionaly by any business. The manager had no tact and no customer service skills. Thankfully, we walked a few doors down to the Ashworth where their staff took great care of us and helped salvage our day. As someone who used to work at a restaurant, I am appaled and, frankly, bewildered by the behavior of the staff at lupes. read more
