I LOVE Lupcia. I LOVE tea in general and what a fabulous place to buy tea. Their presentation and packaging is just perfect. And I love how you go around sniffing all the teas :) ahhhh .... sniffing teas .... I think the Hawaiian blends make great gifts for people back home - again - live the packaging. I needed to purchase a few items as gifts and tea was one of them. This store is located on the ground floor of the Ala Moana Center. When we walked inside, a lady asked us if we wanted a sample of the tea that they're promoting. Of course we said yes. Hubby and I, each got a cup. When my kids were about to grab a cup, the lady mentioned to us that there's caffeine in it and asked if it's okay to give it to our kids. We told her that we don't want our kids to drink anything with caffeine so she immediately offered us another tea that's caffeine free. After we drank our teas, we walked around the store for a while before making my final decision. Due to the wide selection of teas they had on stock, I didn't know which one to choose. The same lady that gave us sample, came over to give me some guidance. She told me that there's a whole wall full of tea leaves that we can smell before making our final decision. After she said that, we went crazy. We pretty much smelled every single tea leave they had on hand. I ended up choosing 3 kinds of tea leaves. While standing in line to pay, the same lady came by to tell me that they're doing some sort of promotion, where you buy $30 worth of tea and if you live in the U.S., they will send you 6 months worth of samples. Okay...I left the line and went to choose 2 more tea bags. I eventually ended up staying at the store for over 30 minutes. I love loose leaf tea! I used to go to Teavana in my home state but they don't have one of those here so I was pleasantly surprised to find this place at the very bottom of Ala Moana Center. It's a very bright and clean store with so many varieties of tea to choose from. I always come here to refresh my stock of tea that I like to drink and share with coworkers at work. LOVE their selection of tea, and it tastes amazing. You will never want Teavana again. The staff is very helpful. They will ask you every couple of minutes if you need anything. They are not trying to be rude, just helpful. If you spend over $30 then you get a free subscription for a monthly newsletter for 6 months. The newsletter comes with a different sample each month. Each tea is different, but for most you can get loose leaf or tea bags. They also sell empty tea bags, so you can make your own. They have lots of tea accessories too. The tea can be pricey, but realize that most of it comes from Japan and I am sure they use less chemicals over there than here in the US. It is also high quality tea. I love this place! I wanted to get a gift for my doctor because he loves tea. Perfect place came here with my husband and was greeted immediately with a sample of green oolong tea. It tasted cool and refreshing. I decided to leave with 4 bags. It is not cheap but the flavors are all to exotic. The customer service was superb I believe she was Japanese National still in college I think but I didn't quite get her name. She was really patient and explained the popular ones the customers will like. Fast forward one month later I'm coming in with my sister I told her I wanted to stop here to get tea. I drink in the morning and the evening. Once again it's that same person with great customer service I'm gonna get her name next time but if you want to know she worked on Monday June 18 at 2:30pm. When you first walk in, the sheer quantity and variety of tea are quite overwhelming. Not to worry! The staff is helpful! I recently needed to buy a few teas that are caffeine-free (sucks, I know), so I decided to give this place a shot. All the teas that have no caffeine are all conveniently located next to each other in its own little section. It's very easy to read all the tea's descriptions, benefits, and ingredients. Then, you may let your smelling-adventure begin. You can lift each canister open to both see and smell each tea blend, which I found very helpful to do before deciding on which ones I wanted. I ended up purchasing a tea with lemongrass and peppermint and it's currently my go-to if I need something caffeine-free. I also got one that's a barley tea flavored with strawberry leaves and chocolate. This one is also good, but it smells better than it tastes. It's really light and needs a heavier portion to fully get the flavors out of it. read more

A salesperson named Karen greeted me and my partner as we went into the store and gave us free samples. She was OK in the beginning. What I didn't like was her constantly hovering over us for 15 minutes when we were trying to decide what to buy. I appreciate her willingness to help, but I think she should be aware that constantly staring at somebody, especially a few feet away, would make that person feel awkward. I paid with a gift card to the cashier (the manager?). It took a while because their system was down, but the cashier took a reasonable amount of time to process the transaction. She exuded a tepid attitude throughout the transaction (i.e. didn't smile or ask me if she can help me). She didn't thank me for my purchase. A few seconds later, I told her that it was her job to say "thank you." She ignored me and didn't look at me or even flinched. I didn't like the uncomfortable hovering and was very disgusted with that cashier's disregard for customer service. I will not return to this location. read more

I wanted to give my client from China a good quality tea and Lupicia was really the only place that offered not only a variety of different infusions but product knowledge as well. The teas are tasty but expensive and the service stinks. I went in right before closing one night and picked out a tea pot for a wedding gift and an iced tea cooler for a birthday present. Normally when I go to Lupicia, they have some teas for tasting which I always end up buying because they are so good. If it wasn't for those samples, I'd have no idea where to start because the selection is so vast. Understandably since I went in so late that night, there were no teas to sample, so I left with my $150 worth of presents but no teas to accompany the gifts. The next day after hiking, I stopped in to see what teas they had for tasting, knowing I was leaving for the mainland the next day and had to pick up something delicious to go with my gifts. Yes, I was dressed like a ragamuffin for I had just had hiked, but that excuses nothing. Not seeing the tasting teas, I asked one of the salespeople if there were any to sample that day. Oh my goodness, you'd have thought I asked the lady to give me a piggy back ride or something. She was so huffy, walked over to sampling station, poured me a taste, and began to walk away. She did not explain to me the tea, or even give me its name. As I took a sip, all I could taste was sugar. I stopped her and asked if there was sugar added and got a stern yes, then she tried to take the little paper cup from me when I wasn't finished. There was another tea to sample, but it wasn't offered to me. I was peeved, still wanting to give the gifts I'd picked out but not wanting to spend another dollar there because I was treated so rudely. I purchased a few teas already in my collection, knowing my loved ones would enjoy them, but disappointed I couldn't find something new and exciting. For my birthday I got a lovely tea pot from Lupicia. Wish I knew somewhere else to find tea. read more

Just Plain Rude!!!..and im not talking about the floor people.. think it was the manager. My husband and I walked in to the store looking at all the cute tea pots and looking for something for gifts. We asked the floor associate a question and she was very nice and helpful. She offered us a sample of a tropical green tea and we actually thought it was refreshing. We were thinking of buying some when I noticed that there was another type of black tea ready for sampling. Since the other girl that offered us the first sample was busy with other people (there were only 2 other couples in there) I thought id ask the lady that was available to see if we could sample a taste of that tea as well. Mind you, the samples are tiny cups that are small.. smaller than the normal small paper cups we can buy at longs. And they don't even fill it up. Less than half full.. Its literally just a TASTE. More like a thimble size. Anyway, I asked the lady who I think was the manager if we could have a sample of the other tea and she just flat out said, 'sorry.. only one sample per person cuz we ran out of tea..' ..uh, WTF??? Ran out of tea?? There's 2 full containers of brewed tea and me and my husband were SHARING the tiny thimble cup we were sampling! Ran out of TEA?? We looked around the room at the unlimited and seemingly endless shelves of tea on display in dis-belief. RAN OUT OF TEA?? What, because there was an invisible line out the door for all to try some? My husband and I were like, 'really?.. uh, seriously.. REALLY!? ..well That's weird!' We said it out loud so that she heard. But no reaction. Just a non expressive'..ya, sorry.' and walked off to help a Japanese couple. We are kamaainas. Unfortunately we opted not to buy the tea that I really liked and I hope that no one has to go through that. We were also thinking we shouldn't EVER buy anything from them anymore. I was kind of disappointed since I liked the tea, but I felt like they..wait..i mean SHE didn't want any of our business. I felt like she was trying to get rid of us so she could help the only other people there INSTEAD of us which is sad since I had purchased tea pots and various tea there before. They are NOT CHEAP there either. I have worked in customer service for 13 years of my life and if I had seen someone that worked for ME do that, id give them an ultimatum. Shape up or ship out. I'm sipping on a cup of puer and green tea made with Lupicia tea as I write this review. I was recommended to this place by my family and decided to check it out since I was at the mall. I made my way to the ground floor and tried to find it on my own as I was told it was outside by the garage. It's tucked away on the side next to the AT&T store. It looks like a body products store from the outside and it's easy to miss. When I walked in, I was greeted promptly by a few people at the entrance. They gave me a sample of a fruity tea and asked me if I needed help. I told them it was my first time there and they took the time to show me every tea they had. I ended up purchasing several loose tea leave bags of green tea, puer, and chai tea. I also purchased a bag of matcha powder which was $17. They also tossed in a few samples of green tea in the bag. On the bag, it says that they have locations in California but when I looked them up, they were all shutdown. They also shutdown their online store and pending reopening. I hope this location can survive and stay in business. read more

Great selection of tea. 3 stars because the service requires improvement. When we came in, the girl that greeted us was very helpful, offering us samples of the brewed iced tea and explaining the selections. She also offered to brew us a sample if we wished to try any other teas. As we were looking around, we found one that smelled good and wanted to try. The girl that originally helped us was busy with another customer, so we asked the girl at the counter if she could brew us a sample. She said no, and explained that we could only smell it. Lupicia is a beautiful, beautiful store- the kind of store where you aren't sure that you want to go in (read: price tag fright) but you go. I LOVE their little drawer system for the teas - that's the ultimate organization! I first had Lupicia because a friend from HI wanted to unload some extra tea that she had. Their teas smell fabulous, but I find them to be all aroma, little flavor. The tea that I brought back suffered the same fate. . . One of my favorite places to get tea. I walked in looking for the Hawaiian series only found in Hawaii. They have a display out front and they have about 10-12 teas available. They also offered gift sets of 3 tins (50g per tin) but they are pre-set and not of your own choosing. It's a better value to buy the 3-tin gift set but I didn't find a set that was to my liking. So I ended up buying 2 tins separately. The Hoku is an Oolong with pineapple, pink pepper, and marigold flavors. It was 30% off so I got it for $7. I ended up picking Palekaiko, a black tea with ginger and mango flavors. Both teas have an enticing aroma of tropical fruit. I always discover something new when I come into this shop. They had samples of tea up front by the cash register. Good tea for a good price. read more

Tomorrow (Nov. 16, 2013) is the grand re-opening for the first floor of the Ala Moana center, so some stores maybe participating in this, Lupicia may be giving out small gifts with purchase. I was just told "with purchase" not sure if there is a specific dollar amount. This is located from the Kona Iki St. side of the mall (close to the then Sears store), corner area, you can't miss it, it's a huge store bright and white! I normally purchase here for the holidays because I like to send the variety of teas to my family in the mainland. If you are new here sign up immediately for their mail subscriptions as they send you one sample tea at least monthly. Customer service is great! They always offer you a free tea, this is my experience here even when I am just browsing, they say hello, they offer you their free tea, you can always ask the ladies what their specials are. Normally they have their sale items in the middle area of the store (usually teas that may be expiring or possibly discontinued). I always purchase the Happy Green Tea, Strawberry & Vanilla, or the watermelon. If you know your teas that's great, if not you can always ask the ladies who work there, I've never had any issues with their customer service, sometimes there's only one sales associate and there are several customers but I've not been ignored, usually good at saying "hello". I hope there are more people with better experience coming here, again I come here every now and then just to browse so I know what to send my family later for the holidays. read more

I never knew they had a store there. I love love love tea and this is far my favorite. When I'm in the east coast, I always buy piccolo in the morning on my way to the office but hadn't had good tea in a long time so I was very happy to be greeted by this little shop. The cute little girl showed me around and gave me some samples, I really had no idea, but I wanted to buy everything but held back. I bought piccolo, momoko, wanted to buy the book of tea but it was a little too much and my mind raced madly how I"m going to fit everything in my small suitcase. I love tea! I have two cups of tea every morning and sometimes more throughout the day. Most times hot, sometimes cold - mainly during the hotter months. Lupicia fulfills all my tea needs! I have to retrain myself from buying too much tea when I visit. I can only drink so much and it's best to have fresh tea on hand. The bags usually have "best used by..." dates on the back, as well as brewing instructions. The staff always greet you when you enter and offer you a sample of a featured tea. They are willing to assist you and answer any questions you may have. If you are unsure about a selection, they may be able to brew a sample up for you to try it out. The best feature are the sample tins of every type of tea which you can open to see the tea and smell it. Even though there are many types of tea to choose from, they are logically grouped. If you just like green tea, they are all near each other. Featured teas are usually at the tables at the entrance. I like both the loose teas and the little teabags. For the loose, they sell a wonderful mesh tea strainer that fits nicely over a mug. Recently I bought another strainer and a pretty tea caddy (to rest the strainer or teabag so no mess on your counter or table). They have other great tea implements too. One is the glass tea coolers with a built in mesh infuser to brew containers of iced tea. So pretty as it comes in many colors. These would make great gifts for birthdays or as a housewarming present. Lupicia also has a nifty monthly tea newsletter. It has the featured teas of the season with perhaps a history of the teas or information of the growing regions. So very interesting and has encouraged me to try many new teas. I have many favorites now, but am always open to trying something new. I believe that if you purchase over $30 in products, you can sign up for their newsletter for 6 months. It is mailed to you and includes a sample bag of tea. I think Lupicia is the BEST tea shop in Honolulu! read more

I LOVE Lupicia Teas, and am VERY happy that they have a store in Ala Moana, since there only other US store is in San Francisco! I love tea and have at times been fans of many various tea stores and vendors (Teavanna, Teance, Mariage Freres, Peets) and although these others are good (especially Mariage Freres and Peets), Lupicia is my top favorite. Not only do they have fabulous teas and a great variety, their prices are not too outrageous. Okay, they're not cheap, but then great tea is like great wine....sometimes you get what you pay for. Also, Lupicia will mark down their teas a month or so before their "use by" date so you can get some great deals....because let's face it, I never drink all my tea by those dates anyways!
