Typically I don't write reviews when I've been somewhere once unless it REALLY wows me. Well, Lupita's did just that. I'll tell you I've been wanting to eat here for easily 10 years now and last night we practically randomly decided to come eat here for dinner. My Hubbs and I were sort of wanting Mexican food, we hit Yelp and quickly scanned the reviews here and made our decision. What caught my eye were the adjectives: clean, quick, and homey-tasting. The restaurant's dining area was very clean and well-kept. We were served two types of salsas and a basket of chips immediately upon being seated. I really enjoyed the "brown salsa" while The Hubbs ate more of the "regular salsa." We ordered the taco and enchilada combo for me and the Gordita Burrito for him. I got a horchata with my meal and it was que rico. We let the waitress know we were in a bit of a hurry and our food came out no more than 5 minutes later. The portions were generous. Everything tasted homey-er than any place we've eaten in Pasadena (i.e., El Torito--I know, joke--and those two places along Foothill, east and west of San Gabriel Blvd. Tacos Las Estrellas was whatever too but I had their fish tacos). Overall, Lupita's lived up to the Yelp reviews and some. It was really a pleasant surprise, a true good hole-in-the-wall. I'm already decided on the enchiladas suizas for our return meal. Delicious, authentic Mexican food with the friendliest service you will find. The chips and salsa are great. The combination plates with hard shell tacos, taquitos, rice, beans are tasty without being greasy. Even the vegetarian burrito is quite tasty as are the shrimp dishes. read more

Fantastic place! First time I've written a review, but felt I had to. We went because of the Yelp coupon but fell in love with the place and will come back for sure. The place was full on a Friday night and only one person was waiting the tables and not once did we have to ask for anything. He paid attention to when we needed chips, drinks, salsa, etc. We were hoping the food would be as nice as the service and atmosphere. It was great! Ordered fajitas and a beef burrito. Good to my surprise! I came across this hole in the wall expecting fast food type of service and menu. Boy was I wrong! The enchiladas and chili relleno were some of the best I ever had. Dont get scared away when going in, the food and fresh and authentic. I am definitely looking forward to going again to try more of the menu. And they take Visa now. read more

I hate to give a bad or even a mediocre review. I do. I always try very hard to see the good side of an experience. But this is what my true experience was eating here; The manue is over priced for the less then stellar fare. I ordered two fish tacos and the waitress came back to me with a plate of two shrimp tacos. (A totally different food item from the menu). Because I was super hungry after a very long day I decided instead of fixing her error to just go with it. Very chewy shrimp. Not at all fresh. I felt like I was eating a bag of pink rubber bands. And the salsa is very very bland and unadventurous. Hey, I may be a white girl, but when I go to a Mexican restaurant I am going there to put some spice in my life. Toco bell is better then this and I avoid that place lie the plague. Sorry Lupita's but you need to get fresh shrimp and make some real salsa. Gracias. read more

If you are looking for a place to fill you up with some good mexican food for a decent price, this is the place! Two days ago, a few of my coworkers came here for the first time and loved it here. They were telling me how their food was great and their portions were huge. So I decided to give it a try for lunch today and I was impressed. From the outside, it's a little hidden from street view since it's a corner restaurant at a small "plaza". Parking there is challenging at 12:30 so plan on coming at 11:30 or 1pm during the weekdays for lunch... unless you don't mind circling the small parking area. When you first sit down at a table, the server will bring you the chips, 2 bowl's of different salsa and a small helping of sliced lime. She was also good about making sure our tables were clean. We decided to order burritos and wow, when they arrived we were surprised at how big they are!! It's definitely filling (none of us finished ours) and if you want a "wet" burrito, it's anywhere from $0.25-$0.50 more. Also of note, we were deciding what to order, we noticed others ordered a healthy serving of homemade vegetable soup (when we checked the menu, it looked like they offered just two soups), or the 2 enchalada (plus rice and beans) combination. Everything was in large portions.. and tasty... :) -4/11/07 update- We ordered a Shrimp Fajita, Salmon plate, Shrimp Soup, and Burrito Gordito (Chicken). Right now they're understaffed so it took them 30 minutes to tell us they didn't have enough shrimp for the Shrimp Soup. The lady who took our drink order also forgot to get us coke (but she did give us 4 cups of water) until we gently reminded them of it. The food was still very good when we got it. Their chips are fresh, warm, and tasty. So far I have enjoyed their Flauta's, they are delicious. I had the shredded beef which was juicy and flavorful. I had the meal which also came with baked beans, Spanish rice and sour cream. I don't normally care for baked beans, but I thought their's were exceptional! I randomly stumbled across Lupita's the other night with my friend while attempting to go to Subway that was in the same complex. To my surprise, Lupita's was pretty stellar. Prices are very reasonable while the portions are large. They give you 2 types of salsa and warm tortilla chips. The waitress was attentive and the service was fast. I had a chicken dish with onions and peppers in a delicious light tomatillo sauce. Served with corn or flower tortilla. Delicious! My friend had this HUGE Baja burrito filled with all sorts of goodies like shrimps, chicken, avocado, etc. The best part about Lupita's? It is walking distance from my house! I Work in the same center. Came in just for some soup since im sick.. The soup was sold large only but the worker gave me a small for 5$. To my surprise it was a small, the container looked like medium size. Cool. The chicken soup broth was delicious, carrots, potato, bomb. For five bucks I got soup, chips, and salsa! Coworker brought me here for a Friday lunch. It has been waited since some of us worked onsite this week so we decided to find a place to chat and catchup(gossip). We were really excited to come here since two of the group visited before and praised for their food. As a fan of Mexican food yet scared by some bad experience, i remained skeptical until I saw the place. It is very lovely, decorated with lots of plants on the ceiling, paintings on the wall, unique and interesting chairs and etc. They were playing some soft music when we were seated, it felt like we were on vacation and just stepped into some local hidden gem... I ordered enchilada plate with 2 beef enchiladas. It was very tender and flavorful. The plate came with rice and beans. I am not a huge fan for beans, but my co-worker who loves beans said it was super delicious. The service here is great. One of the group got a drink, and asked for re-fill. He thought it was free. When he checked with the hostess and found out it wasn't, he said it's ok not a big deal. The hostess insisted to take it off the bill since it wasn't clear. She even offered another guy to refill his drink for free. It was really nice of her to show appreciation for her business, and accommodated her patrons. Ive been coming here for about 10 years now. This place is probably one of the cleanest Mexican restaurant Ive ever been to. Love it. The service is good and the food has been consistent throughout the years. Ive probably eaten everything on the menu at some time or another. Everything I've had here has been at least OK (good). My favorites here are the seafood cocktails, the seafood tostadas and the fried fish. I dont know anywhere else in my neighborhood that has such fresh tasting reasonably priced seafood meals. On the table (and take out too) they give you free crunchy tortilla chips and 2 different kinds of salsa. A nice little place. It has about 9 tables. It seems very clean and bright. We ate there last weekend and thought it had a nice feel, though I could see them running out of tables. Chips and salsa provided. Chips were warm and good. Salsa comes in hot and mild. I liked the hot didn't care so much for mild. I had the chili colorado. The Colorado sauce had a good flavor, but the beef was kind of tough and stringy. My wife had a taco combo and liked it, though I thought the shell looked overdone. We both liked the rice and beans. Loved the clean atmosphere, food and service. So happy they don't have a TV. Their chips and salsa (home made) was light and fresh. They have micheladas, perfect for seafood. We had the shrimp ceviche (also offer octopus and abalone). It was ok. Good size shrimp but seemed like shrimp were pre-boiled or purchased frozen. We were looking for the fresh shrimp that is "cooked" in the lime. Enjoyed our carne asada taco (fresh steak and fresh onions/ cilantro), bean and cheese (used nice tortilla, not the plasticy type), and really awesome chille relleno. Try the home-made flan to finish things off. We did the Yelp $15 for $20 deal. Totally worth it. All in all, good price, clean and yummy food. We plan on returning and leaving stuffed again.
