Red Chilaquiles with eggs over medium.

I ordered red chilaquiles for dinner, it was out very quickly, hot, and perfectly prepared. The waitresses were thorough and friendly. Even though I was there during a rush, I didn't feel rushed and it felt very cozy.

Came in on a Friday morning, very friendly staff and welcoming. The food was delicious and portions size were big. The ambiance is very homey vibes. I totally would recommend this place and will be returning again.

Menudo with foot bone, as requested.

Excellent menudo. I could only eat half of it. Plus warm crispy freshly made chips (which may be why I couldn't finish the soup!). Great welcoming service for this gringa.

They have daily specials, and on Thursdays, they offer sopes for only $1.25 each. The sopes are tiny but delicious! Very filling. I also ordered the small Bionico, which was $5, but I was charged for a medium Bionico at $8.50. I brought this up to the waitress, and she said they haven't changed the menu. That's a bit misleading. She should have told me before I placed the order. Overall, the service was good. They frequently came to the table. There are plenty of tables available, and there is parking in the back lot.

This is a no frills, small restaurant with tasty authentic Mexican food, friendly service, affordable prices. I recommend their menudo!

Came here on a Sunday and ordered their menudo, was extremely disappointed! The broth is completely bland and flavorless, It tasted like tomato water. Sad to say but canned menudo has more flavor than this... I had a menudo craving before coming and are leaving with one. 1/5 stars for the menudo

Got a chicken hard shell taco combo plate. It came with 2 SMALL hardshell tacos, rice, beans and a small bag of chips with small ramekins of salsa: $13.45!! What the!? The chicken was tasteless and very minimal, maybe 2 tablespoons, I'm not exaggerating. It was mostly lettuce and cheese. So disappointed. I mean, let's do the math: 1 hardshell $2.99, so $6 for the tacos and your telling me it's another $6.50 for a 1/2 cup of beans and 1/2 cup of rice and small bag of chips?? No thanks.

    Tacos y papas (potato tacos)

Vero's is where you can go if you want to feel like you're back at home. Growing up as the daughter of a Mexican immigrant father and a Colombian immigrant step-mother, homemade Hispanic meals were a staple in our house. Refried beans that took 8 hours to make and tacos fried in a pan where you wondered how your parents could win the battle with the splattering oil unscathed. The first time I had Vero's, I felt like I was sitting with my mom and dad again. I felt like I was visiting one of my many tias and eating the beans they lovingly prepared because they knew it was my favorite. As a vegetarian now, many of my favorite meals are not available to me but tacos y papa has always been the thing that I look for immediately on a menu. Many places have disappointed me but not Vero's. The potatoes are soft, the cheese is melty, and the taco shells are crunchy. If you're looking for a comfort meal and a really friendly conversation with the staff, then head to Vero's and feel like you're eating with a friend.

Bruh I redownloaded yelp to write this... The food isn't worth it at all there's no flavor and the meat amount is ridiculous it's literally specks of meat. The flan is the only good thing. The horchata is like you just put brown food coloring in water! Waste of $20

Here are the problems: 1. $7 for Chips and Guacamole - a giant basket of mediocre chips - basically a tablespoon of guacamole. Sorry, that's a terrible value. 2. The tacos were good, but again, kind of a crap value at $3 a taco. 3. I also ordered a medium Diet Pepsi. I don't know the exact price, but I had just spent $27 with a tip for 4 tacos/chips and guacamole/and a drink, but they wouldn't give me a refill unless I spent another $1.11. It's not a lot of money, but come on! Food is decent/not amazing/service is fine/prices are high and not a good value. I don't think I will be dining here ever again.

This was not the case when we had our dining experience. We got the plate of chile relleno with a beef enchilada, the mole plate and a kids quesadilla with rice and beans. 1. The chile in the chile relleno was soooo tiny, the battered egg was big and fluffy which is why it looks big. The rice was crunchy and had pieces of overcooked rice. The beef on the enchilada was on top of the enchilada NOT inside and it tasted like boiled beef with no flavor! I put it to the side. The inside just had a bit of shredded marble cheese. So disappointed. The beans were ok, restaurant quality, canned flavored. 2. The mole was very sweet and although that's not a bad thing, it still didn't have any kind of authenticity in the flavor it was as though it was just packaged sauce dumped on the chicken. 3. The kids quesadilla has bellpeppers and onions inside! Which was not disclosed on the menu. My kid likes bellpeppers but not the green ones and not in her quesadillas... come on. I had to pick them off. Over all I'm glad I live far away from here because it was really bad quality food. The service was nice and attentive. The ambiance was empty and almost abandoned... and I even went on a weekend.

I liked their hard seltzers with fun flavors as jicama, tamarindo and passionfruit. I didn't like so much their signature Yerba Mate Pale Ale, but thought it was an interesting concept. The happy hour special is Monday all day and Tuesday-Friday open until 6pm $2 off full pours. Very family friendly, I always see a couple tables with children and dogs at them. It really hits the spot when you're craving comforting, flavorful Mexican food. The chips are fresh, the salsa is good, and the menu has offerings that feel more authentic and varied than a lot of other places. I especially appreciate that they have Yucatán cuisine options, which you do not always see at every Mexican restaurant. I am also very fussy with mole and typically do not like it at all, but I actually really enjoy the mole from El Portal. It has been a real eye-opener for me and honestly inspired me to give mole another shot elsewhere. One thing to keep in mind: a lot of the combo plates are smothered in delicious red sauce and plenty of cheese, so if you are not a big cheese person, just be aware before ordering. The enchiladas are good, though sometimes they could use a little more sauce, as the tortillas can come out a bit dry. The margaritas are tasty, but they do feel a little small for the price (Roughly $16 for a 8oz glass?!) The staff are friendly, the vibe is nice, and overall the food is consistently good. The only other heads-up is that some of the tables and booths are pretty small, so it can feel a little cramped in the main dining room. Also, **make sure you get your parking validated**. This is important because if you do not, the parking lot can be extremely expensive. You can also look for street parking on Green Street. After walking up a block found the charming little passage way with some patio seating. It seems like it's a family-owned and operated restaurant as always a great indicator of things to come is the complimentary chips and salsa. They were perfectly thin crispy non-salty and warm, paired with a nice salsa that seems house made but was a little too tomato/ketchupy but by no means bad. I had crispy taco with shredded beef and chili relleno combo. It was pretty good. ($21 )I enjoyed the rice and beans and it was a filling portion. Wife and mother-in-law split a carne asada plate the meat was flavorful and tender ($30) came with the cheese enchilada was also very enjoyable. They have a really large patio so it's hard to fill but people kept coming in and out so the locals know something.
