This is a huge open air bar/night club. There are games outside like ping pong, Connect Four, etc. We were there on a Sunday afternoon. It was somewhat crowded on the first floor. The second floor bar wasn't open. The DJ was playing techno rock REALLY loud. We left because we were looking for some easy listening music and conversation. None of that was here. Good spot to stop for a drink or two, but Lustre Pearl East has a way better atmosphere. Has an indoor bar downstairs, outdoor seating outstairs, and then roof porch bar with a great view of the city. Dogs are welcome, and the food truck right near the bar has great food. This place is pretty great. Sound system is not so obnoxious that you can still talk to people. The layout is really cool and easy to see everybody. Plenty of bar staff and room. Went here to start our Rainey st. Happy hour adventure.., BAD IDEA ! We asked to see a menu, the guy gave some lame excuse as to why he didn't have one... we asked what's for happy hour.. he gave some bullish!t speech... we fhave malls ordered. Lustre is back! Yes, that's right, the bar that started it all is back on Rainey street again. The new bar is across the street from where the original was located (it's now next to Bar 96). The greatest thing about Lustre Pearl is the people working here. Just like the original bar, they have the friendliest staff on the street! They are always very accommodating and attentive. Cool vibe, great staff, epic ping pong! The Tuesday night ping pong tournaments are basically what I'm living for right now. They really know what they are doing here! Anyone can sign up and the whole tournament is very organized. I highly recommend checking out the cement ping pong table here if you haven't already!!! Seriously, go play ping pong:) read more

I've been meaning to write this review. Frankly, this used to be one of my favorite bars. It has an interesting disco ball on the inside next to a giant moose head. The setting is pretty chill. They have a ping pong tables and hoola hoops which makes for fun drinking times. I loved giving this place my business. Honestly, I would have continued to give them my business if it wasn't for this one bartender who was an epic d-bag (on more than one occasion). I don't know his name, but he has dark hair and works downstairs. I felt like I was living in New Jersey all over again with the rudeness. You can really feel his icy vibes and tell he hates humanity in general. For awhile, I had been coming to this bar every week because I personally thought they made the best Micheladas I've ever had. For those who are not familiar, a Michelada is literally lime juice, bloody mary juice & beer combined (at least that's all the ingredients they use at this place). Very simple drink actually. One night, I went in and ordered my drink and the new female bartender walked over to this negative male bartender & asked him how to make the drink. He told her to tell me "We don't make Micheladas this late" and she relayed it back to me. I replied with "Yes, you do...I've been coming here for months now and I've been served many times before by many different bartenders with the same drink." I wasn't mean when I said it but I stood my ground. I could tell the really negative bartender got super annoyed because he had to teach her how to make a three ingredient drink on the spot. Seriously? Cry me a river, dude. They made the drink. The next week when I came in, he recognized me instantly and pulled the same line this time with a sadistic smile. "We don't make Micheladas this late" in which I replied..."Oh? Well, you've made them before on many different occasions...even later than this actually." He didn't like my reply and refused to serve me the drink. He seemed rather proud of himself too. I guess he needed a little power trip to boost his ego. Honestly, I've never seen such a lazy, lousy bartender in my entire life. Can he even be labeled as a real bartender? What I find the most disturbing is why this establishment allows him to continue to working there when there are tons of reviews on Yelp and Google where everyone is referencing the SAME NEGATIVE BARTENDER.... A few months ago I did venture back in there on a weekday when he wasn't working and was served by a very friendly male bartender. I told this bartender about of the negative bartender who wouldn't serve us a Michelada. He thought it was absolutely absurd and started laughing at how untrue that was. He proceeded to say "We're bartenders, it's our job to make drinks and make customers happy. I'll always make you a Michelada." I felt better about that interaction, but I definitely don't make it a point to come back to Lustre Pearl anymore. I even went as far as to google the owners of this establishment and reach out to them directly about this unprofessional negative bartender. Unfortunately, their contact form on their website was broken and I found no other way to get into contact with them. read more

Personally, Lustre Pearl is not my kind of hangout on Rainey St (I'm more of a Craft Pride/ kind of guy) but they do host one of my favorite Hot wing food trailers (Tommy Want Wingy) & when I'm on Rainey & want my TWW fix I gotta stick around Lustre Pearl since TWW does not do "to-go" orders. They do have lots of open seating which is good, the bar staff is typically friendly, & although their draft beer selection is limited & *yawn* generic, I can usually find an IPA on tap to wash down some of IMHO the best wings Austin has to order! What I don't like about the place is the crowd it draws in. I've seen lots of douche-baggery there; drunk frat guys get in fights over stupid petty bullshit things, or drunk sorority girls falling & bumping into things. I know that can't be helped, a bar is a bar & that sort f thing happens at places of social gathering but it is that very thing that also keeps me from wanting to stay there any longer than it takes for me to scarf down some TWW deliciousness! read more

Place is cute. Would be a nice atmosphere but the staff is complete assholes. The bartender with the gray man bun needs to find a new job because he's clearly miserable. We went as a bachelorette party 10 girls at 1:30 during the day. Only people in the bar. Everything that came out of his mouth was degrading and even when he was being "nice" it was completely sarcastic. The other one with dark hair wanted to walk out when we told him we'd be paying 5 different checks and let us know how mad he was multiple times. Bye. My friends Bloody Mary was too spicy and asked for more mix to tone the spice down a bit. He leaned over and started pouring a random substance in her drink and would not tell her what it was. Finally after she asked three times, he tells her it's sugar water. Tf??? I gave two stars because I have come here before and had no complaints. The food truck, Tommy Want Wingy is really good but I went Monday, September 17th (yesterday) and had a bartender be the rudest I believe a person I do not know has ever been to me. I ordered a couple drinks then said "one second" and walked 3 steps away to some friends to ask if they want anything while I'm ordering (keep in mind, there are maybe 3 other people in the bar because it's a Monday night) and when I came back the drinks were gone and I said "Oh no, where did our drinks go". He rudely said he had them behind the cash register and I "can't just give him the finger and walk away and expect my drinks to be there"....um sir I can promise you I'm not trying to get away without not paying for my cans of $5 wine.....I was very thrown off that someone would be that rude read more

He then asked me if I wanted to fight and squared up. I walked away because he was a JOKE. After I filed a police report another Lustre Pearl bouncer told both myself and my husband that "that happens about 5 times a week." I'm going to start out by stating that I made the effort to create an account on this site, just so I could post this review of my experience of Lustre Pearl during SXSW. Now, before I continue, I want to state that I've worked in multiple bars before, on West, Dirty and the East side, which means that I'm no stranger to crazy crowds, long days and nights behind a bar, or upset employees. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THE LUSTRE PEARL AGAIN. EVER. My friends' bachelor party was in-town this past weekend and after having a drink at the Container Bar, I led my group over to Lustre Pearl where I proceeded to buy 6 Lone Stars. Now, even though they were $5 each, when they're usually $2.50 each, I was like "OK, cool, this is Rainey, things are a bit more expensive". That's not what pissed me off. THIS IS WHAT PISSED ME OFF. After ordering said beers, I tipped the bartender a couple bucks in change; I mean after all, all he did was pop the tab on the little cans I had ordered. Said bartender (he was wearing a sailor's hat, but I didn't catch his name) then proceeded to yell at me, calling me an, "A*shole", then pointing at me and my group, telling us to "F*ck off" and to "...Get the f*ck out of this bar." Apparently the tip I gave him for popping the top of my beers cans, was not sufficient enough for his respect. Of course, being with a bunch of other grown men, his comments weren't exactly met with praises, but we decided to take the high-road and left after finishing our beers. For the record, I have an entire bachelor party as witness to said events. It's a shame because I liked the Lustre Pearl, but I doubt I'll ever go there again. I understand that one person doesn't represent a group....but, then again, as a bar, if you don't want your reputation tarnished, you should probably hire employees that actually care about the quality of service they're paid to provide to the customer (in this case, that's me); you probably shouldn't hire employees with poor-people-skills because things like this review, will undoubtedly happen. read more

Not only did he mix some great drinks, but he was personable and friendly and gave us tips on how to spend our time throughout the weekend in Austin. And the drinks were strong and reasonably priced. 2 things. One. There was broken glass on the floor that sliced my toe open. Blood everywhere. Bartenders gave my some bandaids. Didn't give me anything to clean the blood on the floor or send anyone to do it so I just wiped up the blood on the floor. Pretty sanitary (jk it's not). Two. Ordered three shots. Bartender starts making them and has everything in the shaker. I ask for one more because a friend comes up and wants one (yeah, sue me). Would rate zero stars for Bhuman needs at s public establishment not met but yelp won't let me .) Pouring rain and bartenders clearly telling customers that they cannot give cups of WATER and that water can be obtained by coolers outside in... the. Pouring. Rain. Obviously, we would just get ourselves water outside on our own if it wasn't ... pouring rain. Manager was also very unresponsive and did NOT care despite directly speaking to him. read more

Excellent food. I had the garlic rosemary wings and my husband had a burger. Both we wonderful! We sat at the bar, had a couple of drinks and chatted with the bartender, Joey.
