Firstly, my fiance and I always pass this place on our weekend walks and it's the cutest/ discreet building. Painted in deep blue it sets itself apart among the other row installments. We finally decided to try it and locked in a resy for dinner. We sat and were immediately given an introduction to the menu by our knowledgeable server. Luckily, we were able to snag a reservation for an Saturday evening via Tock for the kitchen table. There are only two tables available with tall bar stool style seats; a tight fit so be aware of that before booking. That being said, the tasting menu was excellent with a variety of tastes, textures, and techniques on full display. Our menu consisted of the following: golden ossetra caviar (pomme paillasson, crème fraîche), hakurei turnip (hazelnut salsa macha), bijou oyster (Monnières-Saint-Fiacre gelée), fluke crudo (compressed cucumber, bay laurel, buttermilk), Parisian gnocchi (nettles, ramps, Calabrian chili, ricotta), sourdough focaccia (cultured butter, basil oil), marinated olives, La Belle Farm duck (sour cherry, chanterelles, almond, cauliflower), coconut sorbet (lychee granita, flan, mandarin), honey semifreddo (10 month comte cheese, honeycomb), cherry tart (whey caramel, cherry pit, vanilla cream), faux canelé (fig leaf, strawberry, cocoa nib, rhum caramel), and finally the mango sorbet (espelette, olive oil, lime). The first three small bites were impactful, which included the trio of the golden ossetra caviar, hakurei turnip, and the bijou oyster. The pomme paillasson was crispy on the outside while steaming hot and smooth on the interior; the caviar and crème fraîche on top added both salinity and creaminess to the bite. Unfortunately I had the entire piece in one bite when two would have been more optimal considering the temperature and volume of the pomme paillasson. The turnip provided a nice textural crunch with an interesting salsa while the bijou oyster was adorned with an intricate gelée. I did enjoy the fluke crudo; the fluke had a tender bite and the buttermilk sauce provided a refreshing acidic contrast to the mild fluke. The compressed cucumber also provided a textural contrast to the fluke as they were proportioned similarly in size and volume. The Parisian gnocchi provided herbacious and savory flavors with a very soft choux base, dissimilar to a potato gnocchi base. The sourdough focaccia was nicely toasted and still maintained a pillowy interior to be enjoyed with their soft cultured butter and marinated olives; I am normally not a fan of olives but their marination process really mellowed the intense flavor and bitterness of them. The duck was very good; it was cooked to perfection and maintained an immaculate succulent pink flesh underneath the crisp skin. The accompanying cauliflower purée was velvety smooth, the duck heart was a tender morsel of duck essence, the chanterelle mushroom provided a base of earthiness and another layer of savoriness, while the reduced sauce provided a rich and exceptional backdrop for all the aforementioned flavors and textures. The desserts here really shine. I would have to say my favorite of the four was the cherry tart; the substantial pastry shell that was baked with a healthy amount of butter to provide richness and flakiness, with the additions of the whey caramel, cherry pit, and vanilla cream uplifting the entire dessert without overpowering sweetness. The canelé was a very clever dessert which disguised a pastel green interior. My least favorite dessert was the honey semifreddo as the bits of honeycomb were extremely sweet. I tried the Mimosas-- Orange and Grapefruit, Smoked Salmon, Comte Strata, and Burrata Toast. My favorites were the Smoked Salmon and the Comte Strata. The Smoked Salmon was fresh and paired nicely with the creme fraiche. The dill and chives complimented the fish well, and the onions provided a nice pop of flavor. The Comte Strata was also delicious. The comte cheese worked really nicely with the sauce and egg casserole. The dish was also seasoned well. I thought that the Burrata Toast was too sweet for my taste, but I appreciated the flavor pairing with the burrata, jam, and basil. Can a simple meal alter the course of your day? The answer is yes. We went here for lunch on my birthday. My husband hates everything and was confused by the menu - with the exception of the burger. I ordered the carrot bread, broccoli, and omelette. He had the burger. The place is super tiny and the back of my chair was pressed up against someone else chair. My dining partner, my husband was increasingly displeased by the small space and was eagerly awaiting the check even before our food arrived. He planned on going to good stuff because he was sure he would hate this food. They brought the broccoli first. It was great. My husband tried it and said that it was too savory. But he kept taking bites so I knew something was going on. Next was the carrot bread. Wow. This. Dish. Of. A. Dish. I loved it. And my husband's mood did an immediate 180. He was no longer talking about good stuff instead we started a lengthy conversation about his love of carrot cake. Srsly a delightful dish. Then they brought the omelette and burger. Alright guys. I came here for my birthday and man. At first I was nervous because I knew going to a swanky restaurant, the portions are smaller and you pay so much more. I love good food but I don't like spending a buck (or having someone spend a buck on me) and still leave hungry. The scallops came out and I was like DANG!! Here we go. Came for Saturday brunch and had a great time! Lutèce has a lovely cafe vibe that's a perfect way to start the day. Our table was right next to the window which made it even more enjoyable. They have cocktails and coffee or tea available for drinks, as well as fresh squeezed juice option like orange and grapefruit. For coffee there aren't flavor syrups available. I ended up ordered the pain perdu which is a French toast that came with shredded apples and amazing whipped cream on top. The French toast was perfectly sweet and crunchy on the outside while still soft on the inside. My friend got the Comte strata which was a combination of bread pudding and quiche with a delicious sauce on the bottom and a fried egg on top. It was equally delicious for a good savory option. Delicious pillowy soft gnocchi and great cocktails, definitely earns the Michelin star! Hubby and I dropped $200 on a delightful feast. Hubby really enjoyed the fresh Tuna Tartar with thinly sliced pear slices and marinate. Off to a good start! The moist focaccia bread with olive oil was quite salty with hard rigid edges. The fluffy inner slices were the best, and the butter is made in-house. The fries were really nice and crispy and a bit salty - paired well with the drinks! The tender light gnocchi with chanterelle mushroom, leeks, and butternut squash in a buttery broth and topped with mini scallions was the highlight of our meal! Typically, gnocchi is dense and doughy and generally a miss at most restaurants. Gnocchi was hands-down the best! The Fall in Moscow cocktail was the perfect fall cocktail and twist on a Moscow Mule with apple cider, the dried apple garnish dusted with cinnamon elevated the flavor. The Ambassador Party cocktail was spirit forward with Bulleit Rye, hubby enjoyed it. The Toi Et Moi cocktail wasn't my favorite and tastes like pomegranate with vodka and could barely taste the Cava. While the rosemary garnish was nice and helped to elevate the flavor, the cocktail just didn't hit the mark. Strongly recommend making reservations, everyone had reservations. It's very cozy inside and 1/2 dozen tables outside with heat lamps that kept us warm! Although I reserved a table for indoor dooring, I was able to get outdoor al fresco dining. Super cute and elegant restaurant nestled in Georgetown. Came here for brunch with a friend and we shared: Steak Tartare - Really good! A tad salty but overall, I enjoyed this dish. Ricotta Toast - Loved this - it's not too sweet and very satisfying. Crispy Duck Terrine - The best dish we tried. Crispy on the inside, tender on the inside, and flavored perfectly. Definitely get this! Mezcal Smoked Salmon - My least favorite dish, pretty standard smoked salmon on toast. The portions are small, think 1 piece of toast-sized for most dishes, but between 2 people, 4 dishes were enough to get us full. Not sure if I just came on an off day, but honestly was pretty disappointed by my dinner experience at Lutece. Our server was polite and respectful and the decor and ambience were gorgeous but the food was extremely underwhelming. We ordered 4 dishes and drinks. The drinks were very watery/low alcohol and our starters were overly salted/spiced vegetables that we actually had to send back our spiced carrots because we could not eat them. The broccoli that replaced it was mistakenly brought to our table and was still very salty. The entrees were also underwhelmed and kinda basic imo with steak and parsnips and a French duck breast that had some extra spices in the braise. Just wasn't my cup of tea. There was not even anything I wanted to eat from the dessert menu, so they gave me free champagne since it was my birthday. Anywho it wasn't like anything in particular was terrible but the food was pretty forgettable and it's also on the pricey side so I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. If I do, I heard that brunch is better. Personally, I would probably rate lutece 3.5/5 stars. (As a caveat, Lutece is on the Michelin guide, but does not have a star) read more

The food we ate was phenomenal, but we left hungry. We had one of the last reservations of the night, and we were seated much past our time because the guests before us wouldn't leave--not our fault, not the restaurant's fault. However, we were never informed that we only had one chance to order food because the kitchen was closing for the night. Our server also did not advise us on portion sizes so that we were sure to order enough food so as not to leave hungry. Because she did neither, we asked to order another entree after we'd finished everything we ordered, and were told the kitchen closed when we were seated, and they had already made an exception for us when we ordered the first time. It unfortunately left us feeling a little bummed at the end of what could've been a perfect meal and evening. Also, the host was invited to join a group of his friends seated directly behind us and very close to me on the patio. Eh..... I had come here exactly two years ago and remember it being amazing. Everything we ate and drank hit the spot. So I returned this week for a chefs tasting and it was extremely disappointing. First of all the seating is basically bar stool seats right next to the bathroom. Sure you can see the cooks cooking away but it's not that exciting. The servers were all really friendly albeit a tad dc snob (of course of course). The food was really disappointing to me. It really wasn't worth the 130$ we paid for. We started with some appetizers that included one mussel for each of us (just one). We then had some scallop crudo in a tasty sauce. The scallop was fresh but I would have much preferred cooked scallop. It was followed by gnocchi for me and charred cabbage for my friend. My friends cabbage was really tasty and the gnocchi attempted many flavors but it just didn't hit for me. Our main course was duck in skippable sauce and sunchoke purée. The duck was quite tiny in size but tasted great and well cooked. We then got a pre desert desert of coconut ice cream and foam and some sweet tangy baby meringue. Really tasty. My last desert was some chocolate hazelnut desert that was absolutely awful. Even my friend didn't like it when she tried it. It was definitely an acquired taste. Would I return? Meh probs not. i had such a fantastic dinner here! it's an adorable spot in georgetown; small on the inside so make sure to make a reservation but the perfect place for a date or to grab some great food and drinks with friends. the plates are small and meant to be shared! we sat at the bar, which is recommend, as you get to chat with the lovely bartenders! the have a wonderful wine selection and fantastic cocktails too! the menu rotates but when we went some of our food favorites were the chicken sausage, the broccoli (so amazing!!), the gnocchi, and honestly all of the desserts. the plates range from $20-$30 per plate but are perfect for sharing! they also offer a tasting menu/wine pairings. it's a truly lovely restaurant with wonderful service and a really nice neighborhood feel. i can't wait to go back and try their new menu items! read more

For brunch reservations, the deposit is $10/person, which is credited to the bill. They have this to ensure that people show up since this is a popular place to eat and there is limited space. We had ordered three dishes for brunch: ricotta toast, avocado tart one, and smoke salmon. The ricotta toast has rhubarb jam with strawberries. Rhubarb is a plant that looks similar to celery stalks. It is technically a vegetable but it's often considered a fruit. The ricotta appeared to be whipped on the toast. The dish wasn't too sweet, and it was definitely a unique experience. I would order this again. Regarding the avocado tartine, it had radish, lime, and sesame seeds. The avocado was buttery, but the toast was a little too crunchy for my liking. As some of the avocado and seasoning soaked into the toast overtime, the toast became softer and more palatable for my taste. In my opinion, it needed a little more salt/pepper or lime to have a stronger taste to it. My favorite dish was the smoked salmon. I absolutely love smoked salmon, so this was a no brainer for me. The smoked salmon was on a brioche bread with creme Grau he and horseradish. It was delicious! I would add a little more salt though (I love salty dishes), but I would definitely order this again. I have been wanting to try this spot for awhile. This afternoon I happened to be shopping in Georgetown so I decided to stop in. I arrived at 1:45 pm to an empty restaurant. The waitress was very harsh and rude. I received zero service. She came only to drop off water and food-never came back-except for bill time. When she took my order she was very rude, I almost walked out. She has no personality. One would think-in a dead restaurant and after being closed for covid-you would have stellar service. However-the restaurant automatically adds 22% gratuity at LUNCH to your bill-so why would she care to be nice-she automatically makes 22% After dropping off bill-she never came back to the table. I had wanted to ask a couple questions but she was very busy conversing with other staff and had her back to me. Sadly-I don't think I'd go back. I decided to try Lutece at brunch this past weekend and it was a lovely experience. First, I was able to get a reservation (albeit at 1:45) the day before, which I appreciated. Upon my arrival, one of the outdoor enclosed bubble tables was vacant, so I asked the hostess if we could sit there instead (we had a bar reservation), and they kindly let us sit there (though warned us the space heater was broken). But the bubble included blankets (chalet vibes) and we ordered warm drinks, and it was not too chilly. It even started raining but luckily there was no leakage and we stayed dry in there. The waitstaff was very attentive but didn't hover, and although it was only a 90 min reservation, they didn't rush us or make us leave. The food just as good as the ambiance. We loved the caramelized grapefruit, and appreciated that it was served with a grapefruit spoon. The French omelet was perfection; silky smooth, filled with herbs and cheese, and served alongside a a light salad. The smoked salmon tartine was delicious--the salmon was high-quality and I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing the brioche was--thick slabs, buttered, and easy to cut through (I hate when tartines end up impossible to cut). The fries were also delish-- crisp, shoestring cut, salted to perfection. All in all, it was a really great brunch and I would return in a heartbeat (I also now need to try dinner). Though we didn't dine inside, I took a quick peek on my way to use the restroom, and, although small, the the interior is cozy and charming and sleek, with an intimate bar that serves food. Loved it! This is an inviting restaurant on Wisconsin Ave with a pretty patio. I liked our table and the service but the food is truly 3 star. For a first date on a beautiful evening I can see this place working out but if you're a seasoned diner like myself you would expect more. For example, the bread was slightly burnt - which is unacceptable at this price range. The sauces did not complement the proteins I tried.. The wines I tried were too light and expensive for their quality; also there were only four reds in the menu with one from Virginia; thanks, but no thanks. The scallop sauce was too bland and 'granular' and the cod sauce was a bit too overwhelming. While the dessert was generally fine, I wasn't fond of the after taste. I so wanted to love this spot. The decor is lovely and reminded me of tiny hidden gems in NYC. There were a couple of standout dishes and overall the menu is inventive and tasty... however, the frigid temperatures inside the restaurant took a 4-5 star experience down to a chilly 3 (at best). The restaurant is freezing and the door opens directly to the outdoors (maybe consider a heater that blows in warm air/a double door/a hanging curtain barrier?). I counted a dozen times our server went in and out - checking with the host stand. Each time I tightened my coat around me and shivered through my meal. Everyone I saw was wearing coats and scarves - not the most relaxing way to spend $$$. To be fair - the tasting menu is a good deal. Our party opened for alacarte which added up to a very expensive night out. The best thing I ate was the charred cabbage and the chocolate canele dessert. We had brunch at Lutece a few weeks ago, and I'm still thinking about it. It's tiny and charming, and the service was wonderful. But it's the food that's stuck with me. We shared the Pomme Paillasson (with Ossetra caviar and creme fraiche) - a splurge but worth it. I enjoyed the Mezcal Smoked Salmon on brioche with creme fraiche and dill and the caramelized grapefruit (with fennel pollen, olive oil, and black pepper). Both were great, but it's the caramelized grapefruit that I've been trying to recreate at home for the last month (I even bought a kitchen torch). My husband had the French omelette (with boursin cheese, sabayon, and smoked salmon rillette), which was also delicious. If only we'd had room for dessert!
