What a delight Apéro is. This lovely French bistro tucked away in Georgetown is charming on every level. We were there for a quiet midweek lunch and pretty much had the place to ourselves, which made for very personal--and very good--service. Everything on the menu looks so good that you want to try it all. So we did our best! The mushroom cigarettes with Parmesan crème were a terrific kickoff. These things were so delicious we could have easily devoured three orders. We followed those with their rightly famous deviled eggs and then the black truffle and Gruyère gougères. Outstanding! Hard to believe we were still hungry, but we pressed on with the jambon and Brie baguette--simple, but classic--and the Apéro burger, topped with Gruyère, mushrooms, and caramelized onions. The burger was perfect, served with homemade potato chips. Apéro is a wonderful neighborhood place, but it's also the kind of restaurant worth making as a destination. read more

Finally made my way to Apéro after spotting their caviar happy hour on TikTok (3-5PM), and I'm so glad I did. This quaint Georgetown spot is definitely a gem. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by several friendly staff members and offered a table, but I chose to sit at the bar. The service was outstanding everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. I wish I could remember my server's name because she did an amazing job explaining the menu and guiding me through the options. I decided on "The Happy Hour," which includes 10 grams of caviar served with all the traditional accompaniments, plus two glasses of champagne. I opted for the Blanc de Blanc over the Brut Rosé (not much of a rosé fan), and it was a great choice. I also tried the deviled eggs, which were delicious. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. I'm not sure why it took me so long to visit Apéro, but I'm really glad I finally did. I tried to buy some caviar while placing a grocery order last night but unfortunately, they were all out. Since I already had all of the fixings that were already delivered, I decided to look elsewhere where see where I might be able to have some delivered. Apero has lots of high quality options at a range of price points. I wasn't looking for anything too fancy and found something that was right in line with what I had hoped to pay. To my surprised, it was delivered with all of the accouterments already diced and prepped in small, separate containers as well as a serving of kettle chips. It was nice because I was able to pretty much go to snacking fairly easily and didn't even need to go into my stash and prep. The two-tops are pub-style and it was absolutely awful. I'm so sick of being uncomfortable during meals that I really want to enjoy. I couldn't even asked to be moved, because there was nowhere to move to. Then, it took forever for service. My partner reminded me that we couldn't leave, even though I wanted to, because we'd be charged. However, once our server came by, service was excellent. I forget our server's name, but she was amazing, and definitely made the experience better. I absolutely loved our food and drink. The drinks were delicious. I had the Starstruck, a passionfruit mimosa, and he had the espresso martini. Both were great. For our meal, we shared the gougeres, pickled vegetables, fromage trio, classic crepes, and crispy potato waffle. The fromage board was the standout, for sure. The cheeses were delicious and the accompaniments perfect. Pickled vegetables were tasty and the gougeres delectable. Crepes were light and crisp. I have been here several times and each time is just great. I love the enter vibe of the inside and think it's a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. The outside patio is also a lovely option though. My girlfriend and I go out 1x a year to celebrate the holidays and keep up our gift exchange "tradition" by taking ourselves out to a bougie/fancy meal, and this year it was my turn to pick the location. I stumbled upon Apero while reviewing Yelp recommendations and was instantly impressed! my gf had never had caviar service before, so I knew this had to be the experience for this year. I was drawn in by the Michelin stars too. Upon walking in, it's instantly clear this is a hole in the wall/hidden gem like spot. The interior was nicely decorated, modern and complementary to the vibe they cultivate here. Upon walking in I was seated, as I made a reservation and found parking right out front. I was asked whether I wanted sparking or still and I opted for the bottle of still. The server was busy tending to many tables and once my guest arrived he came around to ask if this was a "birthday". I explained to him that upon making the reservation I labeled it a special event and he corrected me by saying "so....not a birthday". From there it seemed the attention waned. I understand this is a cozy spot but it felt as if they were rushing us quite often, even when tables were vacant. This restaurant automatically charges patrons 22.5% tip so I would expect stellar service. The food was honestly, remarkable. The deviled eggs with the house caviar was delectable and decadent. The house caviar was on the briny salty side so it worked with the appetizer. We also got the oysters with the pear mignonette. It all came ready to eat with the vinegar already perfectly portioned per shell. I booked for brunch, kind of expecting the lunch menu to be available to order the caviar tagatelli, but only brunch was offered. We split the pear salad and that was scrumptious too! We topped it off with a caviar selection that was more on the creamy and less briny scale and the chips and accoutrements were awesome. I didn't quite understand the waffles. We didn't quite love them. When we wanted more chips he insisted he would run it as an extra charge so we decided not to. We got 2 beverages each- one glass of champagne and one espresso martini. They are well known for their caviar and champagne so we just had to indulge in some bubbly. I asked for a sweeter option but ultimately settled for a brut champagne which was very nice. The espresso tini was very strong! Loved it! We ended the evening with the baba (cake soaked in rum) and braised apples. The apples retained their tartness and it was so yummy. We ordered tea as well. I had to ask for cream and honey. Overall, this place is worth a visit. Food gets 5 stars for sure, service is really the only reason this review isn't 5 stars. This is a great spot for a girls' night with close friends. It's small but intimate, with a dark, cozy interior. They offer excellent caviar service with a wide variety to choose from (note that their caviar service comes with potato chips, not blinis). The staff is super friendly and highly knowledgeable about their offerings. It's a fun experience to splurge on, and I've heard they have a great happy hour. The two caviars we tried were delicious, and the staff's guidance helped us better understand the differences between them. Burger was great too, the chips on the side were weak, should be more creative here in the potato department. 22.5% auto gratuity is insane hahaha. Would consider not going back because of this. Went here on a Sunday afternoon to grab brunch. My expectations were high given the reviews and walking in the ambiance was quite nice. We got the Eggs Benedict and the Croque Madame. The food however was ok. Definitely tasted better. And the service was slow. We sat there for a good 10 minutes before we were handed menus. 4 stars for a Michelin-level venue that needs to figure its reservation system out. This review is mostly for La Boheme (which Yelp strangely won't allow to be a separate business page). My wife and I were looking to go out with a friend of ours for a nice dinner, so we checked around on some of the "hot new restaurant" lists and saw La Boheme. Located near the corner of P Street and 27th, La Boheme is the upper level restaurant of Apero, the well-established wine and caviar bar. We arrived at the venue for at 8:15 reservation, saw the sign on the door saying to go through Apero (smart), and headed inside to check in. The host station (near the middle of the restaurant) told us to take a seat at the bar as it would be a few minutes. As you can probably guess from other reviews, our wait was not a few minutes. Rather it started approaching 9pm and we were still waiting to be seated. While the venue comped us our drinks at the bar and blamed a couple who wouldn't leave, a 45 minute wait beyond a reservation time this late is not good. As I describe below, this venue has the potential for a Michelin star based on service and food, but this reservation problem is going to kill any chance of that ever happening. I think the owner truly does care and I believe in her, but belief only goes so far. This needs to get fixed ASAP. Maybe a new reservation system? I know it would be expensive and margins are already slim in the restaurant business, but don't throw away the opportunity. With all of that out of the way, we were taken upstairs and encounter a very cutely decorated venue with a cool looking bar in the back. We took our seat and the wonderful waiter came over to apologize about the delay, bring us some complimentary champagne to start, and explain menu items. You could tell that this waiter was really passionate about everything on the menu, as he explained the origin of one of the "frozen" chartreuse (note the frozen is how they keep the bottles, not the actual drink) in really interesting detail. I've seen advertisements that the venue celebrates certain artists as part of the experience, which I didn't quite feel for this experience, but also did not feel like was necessary. As we had 3 people at our table, we decided to use the tasting menu approach to order one of everything. For $95 a person, this was an excellent deal compared to comparable venues. We first started out with a little starter bite (can't remember exactly what it was, but I think it had grilled onions on it) that was great. We then went into all of the appetizers, with the colds coming out and then the warms. Everything we tried tasted great, with the winter root vegetable and tagliatelle standing out as amazing dishes with great tastes and complex flavors. The portions were just the right amount for everyone to share in a manner where it wasn't too much but also you were getting plenty. We then proceeded on to the main dishes. At our similar venues, appetizers will often be the stars to somewhat hide lesser entrees. That was not the case here as the cauliflower dish (which we all agreed we would not have ordered on our own) was absolutely outstanding, while the other three mains were quite excellent. After finishing our mains and ordering a bottle of wine, we finished with the two desserts. The first dessert, the espresso cake, was quite solid and very shareable. The Sakura garden, which is kind of a fruit dish, was actually my favorite of the two and was what I would order again on my next trip. We then paid for our order, which included $50 off due to using the InKind App to pay (yay VC money!) and headed out. Overall, La Boheme provided us with a fantastic dining experience. The service and food were spectacular and will likely merit inclusion on lots of top restaurant lists in the near future. With all this potential, I hope the venue can get the reservation issue figured out so that the restaurant can get the recognition it deserves. read more

Went to Apero for an early dinner (pre-Kennedy center). Arrived early. Hostess and the bartenders were all "no it's okay, come on" so in I went. They offered me a table (I had a reservation) but I decided to sit at the bar. Anyway. Started the meal with the deviled eggs. You'd think, deviled eggs, right, just deviled eggs? But these were really good. And overstuffed. Had some bacon in them, which really set them off. So off to a great start. For my main course I had the branzino (aka striped bass) and it was phenomenal..It took me a hot minute to place the sauce flavor. It was a classic hollandaise sauce. The whole thing, fish, potatoes, spinach....was just perfect, and combined perfectly with the slightly lemony hollandaise. Dessert brought out the bread pudding which, you guessed it, was phenomenal. The ambiance? Ok, so Apero is small. There's another restaurant upstairs as well. So the ambiance is semi-chaos, not very private....and sitting at the bar gave me a front row seat to the pre-service (basically) chaos and then the service chaos. It was great fun. Apero is also SUPER casual. I was in a suit (like I said, I was going to hear Mozart at the Kennedy Center) and felt WAY overdressed. Shorts and t-shirts would be good to go here. Get a reservation, and go. And also let me add: It was not as expensive as I thought it would be (considering it's D.C., it's a Michelin starred restaurant, and it's French). read more

I've been wanting to check out this restaurant since it has great reviews and looks really cute when we've passed by the outside. I decided to make reservations tonight bc I've been craving their specialties - champagne and caviar. We arrived on time and waited a few minutes for our table, which wasn't too bad. You literally bump elbows with people sitting at the bar to get to the door leading to the back patio.The smaller dining area at the front could be a cute spot for drinks and small bites though. I was glad we were dining on the patio tonight since we had the kiddo. It was quieter and brighter, but it wasn't as warm as I expected it to be for a heated and "enclosed" patio. One side was wide open for the servers to bring food in and out. We had coats on the whole time. The server was very knowledgeable and reasonably attentive, but it was incredibly slow service. Our 5 year old son dines out regularly with us and is well-behaved, but we were still surprised he was patient through the meal. It took 2 hours to get just a few appetizers and 1 entree! We had snacked later in the day and weren't very hungry. I've easily spent 2-3 hours at other restaurants, but those are multi-course meals or tasting menus. I admit the food that we ordered was tasty, but it was nothing extraordinary and not worth the wait. Again - we ordered simple dishes. We didn't get our Black River Royal caviar until about 20-30 minutes later. It was perfectly creamy and salty. The mushroom cigarettes and gougeres came maybe at the 45 minute mark. The mushroom Cigarettes were earthy in taste and crispy. The gougeres were so light and fluffy with the perfect amount of cheese. I'd definitely order them again (if I ever return). The oysters came even later than that and were fresh with the cucumbers, but I didn't prefer the sauce it was served with - too strong in onion flavor for me. The roasted chicken came nearly 1.5 hours after we ordered. The gnocchi had a great bite to it, and the sauce was rich and deep in flavor, but the chicken was interestingly tender yet still dry somehow. I've had better texture. Overall, food was tasty, but there are too many great restaurants in DC to have to wait this long for food. I think a Michelin rated restaurant should be able to get appetizers on the table within 30 minutes. On top of that, I knew there was a 20% servicing fee and am more than happy to pay it, but when I do, I expect much better service than this. read more

Noticed this place was on InKind so decided to give it a try before a Kennedy Center performance. What a gem! Started off with some great drinks and mushroom cigarettes which were very tasty. For dinner I enjoyed the chitarra and my husband really liked the duck. We also got mousse and bread pudding for dessert both of which were very tasty. The restaurant has an elegant vibe but the staff is super chill and puts you at ease. I was surprised by how packed it was for an early dinner given the fact that it's tucked away from the M Street hubbub which bodes well as there seemed to be a bunch of neighborhood regulars who really like this place. I was looking forward to dining at Apero with an out-of-town friend and chose it because it's in my neighborhood and I'd called ahead to confirm they could accommodate me after a recent foot surgery. I am currently non-weight-bearing and using a knee scooter, so accessibility is essential. I was told they could arrange seating by the street. When I arrived, there were three outside tables -- two standard ones already occupied and one long, high table that was awkward for someone with mobility equipment. Another diner even offered to switch tables, but the staff declined. I was instead told my table was on the patio inside. To reach the patio, there are stairs, which I cannot use without walking on my injured foot. When I explained this, I was simply told "you walk in," with no alternative route or assistance offered. I have great sympathy for people with permanent accessibility needs and believe restaurants should be honest about their limitations. If I had been told in advance that the patio was not accessible, I would have understood and simply chosen one of the many other restaurants nearby. Instead, I was left in an uncomfortable spot at the long table, which did not work well with my scooter and limited mobility. I've lived in Georgetown neighborhood for 15 years and have already enjoyed the community, but this was disappointing -- especially as accessibility should be part of good hospitality. I hope management will better train staff to follow through on accessibility promises and respond with more empathy to guests with mobility. read more

My friend and I made a last minute reservation at Apéro for a Friday night and greatly enjoyed the overall experience. We considered the tasting menu at La Bohéme but couldn't find a menu or any reviews for it so decided to stick with Apéro. When we arrived at 6:15pm the tables were pretty empty (however, the bar was full) but by the time we left around 8:30pm it was almost completely filled. The location is away from the crowds and hustle of M St. and nestled in the neighborhood which compliments the overall atmosphere and vibe once you walk inside. To start, I ordered the Lunch Break cocktail which my server told me was the only cocktail to remain from the summer menu. It was tasty and not too sweet but not sure if I would order it again. For food, we split the mushroom cigarettes, gourgeres, and the chitarra pasta. The mushroom cigarettes were delectable but the last two in the bowl did get a little soggy from sitting in the parmesan crème. They didn't lose any flavor but the crispy ones were definitely preferred. The gougeres were a bit more plain than I was expecting but were so perfectly puffed and airy. Pro tip is to use the parmesan crème from the mushroom cigarettes to dip the gourgeres to add a bit more flavor. For our large plate, they kindly split the chitarra pasta into two dishes. Although the portion looked small, we were both comfortably full afterward because the sauce is a bit rich. We glanced at the dessert menu but nothing caught our eye! I would love to return to indulge in their caviar at Caviar hour during the week. My caviar journey recently began and it's exciting to find a place with so many options to choose from! 5/5 great experience thanks to the great staff. The vibe is moody and dark, and reminded me of an nyc restaurant. Our waitress suggested two caviars for us that were very reasonably priced and Belvedere vodka to accompany it. They were both delicious. We also ordered a salad, mussels, and striped bass. Again, delicious And we had to end with their desert, the butterscotch pudding which was absolutely amazing! I would absolutely go back. read more

High points: Very nice staff, hip walkable location, cute 80s chic French interior. Low points: The menu comes on an awkward miniature ..wooden board...and has 5 actual meals on it. The other six? seven? pages of the menu was the alcohol and caviar. That was...frustrating. I was displeased by the very limited menu. The place is SUPER SMALL. Tables do not have very much room between them. If it was a nice day you could sit outside and probably be way more comfortable. The food was good. Not great but good; filling. However the prices..that was the breaking point. I guess if you're REALLY into caviar this seems to be the place to go, but if you're looking for a place to have a meal without alcohol this is definitely not it. read more
