My father was interested in a car for me, as I didn't like my current one. He had gone to check out a car they had there for an opportunity for a trade-in. He took my car in so they could value it. But they had sold the car the night before and didn't communicate it to him! Thankfully we made an offer for one somewhere else that is A LOT cheaper. Overall, they're over-priced and dishonest. Paid $2000 for them to diagnose and fix leaky fumes and repair the vsc light on my car. My car is still doing the exact same thing and the issue has not been rectified. I called to inform them a while ago of the issues and my concerns but only excuses were made. I'm a single mom who doesn't have an unlimited check book lying around. Had I known paying them 2k and my car would still be in its original condition I would've avoided this place like the plague. They are nice people but nice doesn't equate to good. I'd like to clearly know if you're fixing my car that the issue will be diagnosed properly and fully communicated what my options are for repairs versus slapping a bandaid on it and 2k later you telling me your taking a blind shot in the dark. This has been so frustrating! My car is doing the SAME EXACT THING IT WAS DOING PRIOR To ME GIVING YOU $2000. IT'S NOT FIXED SIR. I brought my car in because the VSC light was on and I was smelling exhaust fumes. Why not inform me of all the issues versus fixing what you wanted to fix? For $2000 you think I'm going to bring my car in for you to put a bandaid on it. This is ridiculous. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET NICKEL AND DIMED I BEG YOU NOT TO TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. This is a well run and trustworthy repair shop. We are a car-centric family and I have a second two car garage and shop that we mostly use for track cars, fully equipped to do almost everything except heavy engine machining. Our extended family uses Lutter's for maintenance and repairs that I don't have time to deal with, am out of town, etc.. I trust these guys to troubleshoot the problem and repair what's needed. They will recommend additional services that should be performed anyway, but aren't pushy if they're declined. read more

Dan squeezed is in early this morning, gave us a loaner to drive, and gave our kids snacks when we were there at the crack of dawn. They quoted us a fair price and stuck to it too! We had the same experience a few months back when we took my husband's car in for a bigger repair, so they're creating a great track record with us. Get Quotes from other places before you decide to go here. They seemed friendly which is always a relief. I needed a flex pipe repaired on a Ford Edge 2012. I was bracing myself for around a $350-ish price tag because I've had similar issues with previous automobiles. I respect mechanics for a lot of reasons. I know they can screw you at any point, so I'm as nice as I can be and show them as much respect as I can. They quoted me at $675 !!!! "Assuming no other issues". I think not! I processed this, got my car and started thinking about how huge of a price tag this was. I simply couldn't afford this and realized I either had to go to another mechanic or fix it myself. At this point, I was getting angry and in that anger I decided to just fix it myself. I did the research, prepared, probably spent twice as long doing it but I did it. Including the tools I didn't have and the parts required, I fixed the issue. It only cost me $160 !!!!! I've been driving it for two weeks and it runs good, sounds great and I've been checking on it and there are no issues. Flex pipe = $30 Adapters = $ 6(for 2) Sealer = $6 Clamps = $13 (for 4) Exhaust Hanger = $4 # TOTAL = $60 So where is the other $615 coming in? It took me about 8 painful hours getting this just right. Assuming a mechanic could do it in 4 it puts the hourly rate at $153.75/hr, but we know it probably wouldn't take a "professional" that long at all. Contradictory to my complaint, I think mechanics should be getting paid better. This experience didn't feel right to me. Needless to say this left a bad impression. Especially after going to other places such as Midas who quoted me at around $300. read more

I had a great experience today at Lutters Elmbrook Automotive and wanted to share. I needed brake work done on my vehicle and gave them a call. They asked a lot of upfront questions on the phone and had me all set up for an appointment with a loaner to usewhile my car was being worked on. I got a call in the morning letting me know there might be a slight delay with the loaner and wondering if I wanted to reschedule as a result...what great customer service! Needless to say, I went in to get the work done today regardless and there was a loaner ready shortly after I arrived. They explained the work that needed to be done and it was handled quickly and professionally. The team at Lutter's is fantastic to work with and I will be bringing our vehicles back for future work. Their honest approach to business is refreshing and their focus on customer service is better than anything I've experienced in a very long time. read more

I've been taking my car here for approximate two years now. They are always extremely kind and also extremely reasonable with their prices. I dropped my car off last night for an exhaust issue... the next day I received a text and a full diagnosis aboutnot only the issue I brought it in for... but also a full run down of what my vehicle was due for and needed. I called back with what I wanted them to take care of without any pressure for what I wanted to do myself. I felt like the diagnosis was fair and accurate, and beyond convenient. As a female. I frequently will get talked down to or taken advantage of at car repair places, but not here. I've never felt misled or pushed to get something that isn't needed. It is always difficult to find a good knowledgeable shop that is also honest and affordable. Lutter's is one of those rare exceptions. Lutter's is a family owned and run business. I came to them on a recommendation from a coworker that attends the same church that one of the mechanics attends. My coworker spoke of the excellent service and how well they explain everything to her. I was having transmission issues, which everyone knows is expensive and never fun to deal with. I took the vehicle here for a second opinion since the repairs were going to be very expensive and I needed to know if anything else was going wrong with the vehicle to see if it was worth fixing. Lutter's looked at the car and did an amazing job breaking down and prioritizing all of the issues my vehicle was facing, explaining how necessary each repair would be and giving me recommendations based on what they would do if it were their own car. They advised against some unnecessary repairs the first shop tried to sell me and gave some other great advice that the other shop neglected to mention. They had the vehicle fixed in a reasonable amount of time. My wife was the one that picked up the vehicle and she was incredibly impressed how well they explained all of the issues and repairs to her. She said she has never felt so comfortable talking to a mechanic before and that they did an outstanding job explaining everything to her in terms that she could understand. These people run a good show! I have come to Lutter's a few times for auto problems before, always on short notice, and they've always been able to squeeze me in. I really appreciate their flexibility, down home atmosphere, willingness to explain what's going on, and very reasonable prices. Took my 08 suburban here 2 Friday's ago, made a 7am appointment as work nearby. Told them I was working half a day and that the car was misfiring on cylinder #6 because I have a scan tool and identified the location of problem. I called them back at 11am as I was about to leave work; they said they just started checking the vehicle out. They texted me a full car inspection report at 11:25 which indicated the misfiring would cost me over $900 to fix. I called them back, they never called me, I asked them to replace the spark plug on cylinder #6 and if they thought the wiring had o be replaced that was fine. They said I needed all kinds of other stuff, an oil chamge and so on. I said I had the oil changed 2 days before; they said you didn't have the oil changed here. I said I'd come and pick up my car; they said it would be ready. Went to pick up, they said I'd have to wait 10 minutes or so to get it and I owed $139. When I dropped the car off they never said anything about doing and entire car inspection no did I sign anything. At this point I knew what kind of shop this was, gave them $140 cash and they gave me my key back. I went directly to Tires Plus, they replace the spark plug for $25 and my car is running perfect. I'm out $140 to this place, but maybe I can prevent someone else from losing out in the future. Also, after I paid them they text back and forth with me trying to prevent this review from occurring; this business wasted a lot of my time and took my money and delivered no service. I see the owner responds to these posts, don't believe whatever he posts. I have never written a review before; my life is too busy, so obviously this was the worst service and rip off I've come across. read more
