Just had my AC totally redone, great job such a professional group reminds me of old Austin

So I was on vacation in Central Texas when the Check Engine light together with Propulsion Power Reduced came on for my 2017 Chevy Volt, and of course because it was the holiday, every dealership service department was backlogged. I frantically googled for a place in Central Texas that works on hybrids, and Yost came up. They managed to get me in for a diagnostic first thing in the morning Monday 23 December. I was worried that it might be the EGR valve -- a common occurrence in second gen Volts -- but by lunchtime they'd found out that the problem was a much more prosaic oil leak. They patched the leak, changed the oil, and degreased the engine to make sure there was no further damage. There wasn't, and so my car was fixed by 3:30 pm that day, and I picked it up the next morning. Got a same-day diagnostic and repair on a holiday week and the total bill came to $297.80. If you need a diagnostic and repair for your hybrid car, I can't recommend Yost highly enough. read more

I finally had a minor issue that allowed me to schedule for my car to be dropped off on a Friday (I know why the scheduling is so far out -- because this place is the best). The drop off policy is quite interesting: I would highly recommend that you print the form out from the website and fill it out before you go, especially if you are doing a night drop. Once again, Mark and his technicians properly diagnosed my vehicle and even found that I had dry rot in my front tires. I was so grateful that they were proactive about this as I travel a lot on the weekends. Super fair pricing and it was a pleasure to see Jordan again. Yost I is dead. Long live Yost II. If you are looking for an expert, fair, and extremely honest mechanic, here you go. There were two shops owned by the same people within blocks of each other on North Lamar, but the smaller one (the original Yost) had to close because of staff shortages a few days ago. The manager, Mark, moved mountains to get me back on the road asap, and he did it while saving me - literally - thousands of dollars. They are crazy busy so bring your patience but your wallet will be fatter for it. I am so grateful. read more

I had my car over there for a week until Friday when they gave me a loaner car for the weekend... Finally had to get it towed to a different spot down the road... read more

I am really disappointed and frustrated with my experience. I brought my car in because my steering wheel was squealing. I waited all day for the diagnostic (which is to be expected with any auto shop), and finally they tell me it's because I need new tires. However, they don't have them in stock and will need to special order them. I take a second day off work to bring my car in again but the tires don't fit and I'm told they need to stretch the rubber to make them fit. The very next day my steering wheel is still screeching and my tire pressure light comes on. The tires won't hold air, no matter how many times I fill them up. I email to see what's going on and Mark tells me to bring my car in for a third time so they can get it handled. Sure enough, I bring it in and they're overbooked and "aren't sure when they'll be able to get to it". They want me to leave it all day. Again. This place has gone downhill. It really feels like you're just a number to these people--there is no such thing as customer care. I wanted to support local but unfortunately I'm going to have to take my car to a dealership where there is *some* level of competency. I now have more problems than when I first brought it in. read more

I was looking for a new mechanic after Dura Tune closed, and Yost is great so far. They're reliable and honest, which is all I ask in a mechanic. I went to the dealership and they told me my brake pads needed to be replaced immediately, and gave me a high quote. Yost looked at the brakes and said I had at least another year on the pads and gave me a fairer quote. Definitely going here again. You do have to book at least two weeks in advance for repairs, and you can do that through their website. I think they will take walk ins if it's urgent - call ahead. It's not fancy, but they do the job! read more

Mike, I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years. I've been trying to get an oil change and inspection for the last 3 weeks. I made an appointment and came in. I was told you don't take appointments for oil changes and inspections, it's first come, first serve. Totally fine with that. I came back a few days later at 9:15 am and was told, sorry, our workload is too high and we can't get you today. Get here right when we open. Still ok with this. I get there before you open, first person to talk to the receptionist and I'm told "sorry, our workload is too high and we're not taking oil changes or inspections. Try calling periodically and see if we can get you in." Is this really this really policy? Do you think this experience is going to make a customer want to come back? Please help me understand. My experiences with you guys have been great up until the last year or so. read more

Had to get my breaks checked and decided to come here. They were incredibly responsive, clear, and straightforward through the whole process. You'll definitely have to make an appointment, it is also just easier. They were pretty busy so my appointment wasn't even until two days out. But when you make your appointment they get back to you quickly. My only issue was that my appointment was in the morning. I dropped off my car thinking it would be serviced at said time and went back home for the day. They did not even get to my car until around 3:30pm to then tell me my brakes needed to be replaced. What was the point of having my appointment at a certain time? Overall though, it was still a great experience. Price was fair and I appreciated the transparency throughout. I was at a social gathering and we got on the topic of good car places around town. Multiple friends mentioned Yost, and one guy said he even comes from south of downtown just to take his vehicles here. I vowed to remember this information. I have been taking my car to the dealership for service and I've had enough of the overcharge and never-ending add ons. I did not think I'd use this recommendation so soon, but when I got a flat tire I called Yost the next day to make an appointment for a new purchase and installation. Both locations are right on my street, so I dropped my car off and walked back home! My flat tire was in the trunk, the tire lock and the caps were inside my car, I thought they would call me asking questions but they figured out everything without me! Lol. They called me with an estimate, also found a nail in another tire and said they'd patch it up for me. The price was totally fair, and Yost didn't try to sell me anything more. The woman at the front desk was so nice & made everything easy. I left this business feeling grateful and I will definitely recommend Yost to everyone I know. read more

Mark did a great job replacing the timing chain, water pump and oil pressure switch on my 2013 F150 with 110k miles. He was very honest, did meticulous work on a job that absolutely requires very close attention to every detail. Hopefully Yost and I can squeeze another 5 years and another 70K out of this truck. I posted this review on Google, but want to shout it out on Yelp as well: I have a lot to say about Yost and all of it is good. Where to start? Originally, I had my truck's steering wheel controls fixed by a local dealership. Within a few weeks, the clockspring inside my steering wheel broke, leaving me with no working airbag, traction control, or steering wheel buttons. The dealer claimed it had nothing to do with their work and that "they just break" (but could not offer any service interval life for a key component that "just breaks"). Oh, and also it'd be a 3 month wait for the part because they don't have it in stock. Frustrated with the dismissive way the service adviser treated me when discussing this (and honestly a bit concerned with the competency of the techs), I brought my truck to Yost. Yost was able to source the part next-day and get the work completed the same day. Oh, and they have a 2 year warranty on their work. The dealer explicitly states no warranty when they have you sign. Prices were similar between Yost and the dealership, but a 2 year warranty included with Yost AND better customer service?? Amazing. I mention the warranty because Yost stands behind their warranty. Case in point, I later brought my truck to Yost to have the transmission cooler and AC condenser replaced. They did the work on time and for a very reasonable price. About a month later, my AC started not blowing cold. Since Yost had replaced the AC condenser and my AC worked fine for years before, I took my truck back to Yost. Again, in one day, they diagnosed and fixed the problem -- a leaking O-ring from the AC condenser install. They filed it under warranty and my cost was $0 with NO PAPERWORK to submit. I love Yost. Seeing integrity and pride in workmanship at a competitive price is such a rarity in ANY business today. Yost has my business for as long as I'm in the Austin area. read more

07/2020 Update on two more repairs done on our vehicles. A Honda Fit and a Chevy HHR. Yet again awesome service by Mark and his team at Yost II, Honda Fit needed new ignition coils and spark plugs and even though they were booked full of appointments we were able to drop it off over the weekend and they got to it sooner than I would have expected. Great work and it's running fantastic. HHR had an overheat problem and with a quick fix of replacing the thermostat and other minor work it's working great. Both jobs done in a fantastic amount of time and way under the cost I was expecting. Been coming here 8 years and will continue doing so with every vehicle we own. read more

Completely incompetent. Waited over an hour for them to fail an inspection for no legit reason. Inspection passed in 5 min down the street. Cannot begin to tell how much future business they will now miss out on all over a $20 sticker and one incompetent kid. Save yourself the bad experience you would have by going somewhere else. 5 MINUTES AND IT PASSED across the street. These people will lie to your face. Trust them and don't say you weren't warned. 10 years that crack in taillight has been there and 10 times it's passed..11 counting today. But these people think they are special and will waste your time just to make sure you know it. "Monitors"!?! Lol now you are just making things up. If you can't handle a simple reg sticker others would be idiots to have you work on their vehicle. So thanks for making sure I won't get myself into the nightmare of working with you. read more

Good communication on the service updates I needed. More reasonable than at the dealership.

My Kia Soul was stolen, smashed up, and driven into a creek bed. Classic Collision did the body work, but failed to correctly diagnose the vibrations I experienced every time I tried to accelerate past 40 mph. My car struggled to reach 55mph and would shake coming down from anything above 50. I spent 3 hours at C.C. while they pretended to realign my wheels and placate me. They even suggested that the vibrations may be normal for Kias. I assured them that my Kia never vibrated or struggled at higher speeds. If anything, it accelerated quickly and easily. I made arrangements to bring my Kia to Yost for a second diagnosis. Most mechanics wouldn't accept insurance, but Yost did! Right before my appointment, my car was broken into AGAIN. I had a club on the steering wheel. They weren't able to steal it so they just broke the window. Yost took great care to secure my vehicle inside the shop with the club on because it was vulnerable. They quickly identified the problems - my front wheel was bent and the back wheels were trashed. They said it was as if the thief had driven at high speeds with the parking break on. It also had a bent hub. The bent front wheel was the main source of the vibrating. While it was there, I asked them to estimate the cost of the broken window. Insurance wouldn't cover it unless I made a new claim. Safelite was going to charge me $540. Yost charged me $325 for both parts and labor and had it done the same day. I took my car home while they waited for the parts to arrive. After securing payment from my insurance, it took them less than a day to install four new wheels, a new hub, replace all the parts, and realign everything. Driving away I noticed an immediate difference. In fact, my Kia is driving better than it was before it was stolen! I've made the decision to trade in my Kia due to the massive amount of Kia thefts (thank you, Tik Tok), but I feel so much safer in it while I look for something that's less of a target. When I do, Yost will be my mechanic of choice. They are fast, affordable, and they really know what they're doing. Everyone there was really accommodating and did everything they could to make sure my car was safe in their shop. Shout out to Mark for being so friendly and knowledgeable! And The office staff is really friendly and pleasant. read more

My family and I have been going to years for years. Wonderful family shop, professional, honest, knowledgeable and they stay on top of automotive trends and maintenance improvements. II especially appreciate Yost II, now that I own a Prius. It is nice to have a place to take my car with confidence! Front office is very friendly and accommodating. While my car was in the shop I was able to rent at a very reasonable fee, interesting they have a Prius available for rent. All my maintenance is done timely because I don't have to wait on a dealership to get in line. This had been a big issue in the past. Austin does continue to grow and many shops have popped up, but I am glad the HONEST, reliable and friendly service is always consistently found at Yost II. read more

I've been taking both of my Toyotas to Yost II for about a year now. The mechanics have been friendly and honest. Their prices have been better than what I was paying at Rising Sun. Now, I haven't done anything particularly difficult. It's mostly been maintenance and inspections. I've been pleased. Make a reservation. You can't just show up. Full disclosure: Mike Yost used to be my neighbor in the early/mid 90's when he was still a shade tree mechanic. While I picked Yost Auto because I knew if worst came to worst, I'd call Mike and give him an earful, I have not come close to being disappointed. read more

The folks over at Yost II are on top of their game. I take good care of my car, so I'm well aware of parts that may need to be fixed. I took the vehicle in for a cracked windshield fluid tank and hose, and a new timing belt. Prices were very reasonable (less than $300 for the entire repair). The guys didn't try to upsell me or recommend a bunch of stuff I didn't need, which was much appreciated. Turnaround time was less than a day. I picked it up early in the morning. All in all, it took less than 24 hours to have my car back. Highly recommended. read more

Consistently friendly service, they provide me a detailed breakdown of work required and/or recommended every time. And always get my approval before commencing that work. Been going here for years. Went in today at 9:17 and they were already booked for the day. I called the day before to make sure they had my filter and gave them my info to make sure they knew I was coming, like I always do, and they were booked for the day 17 minutes after opening. The girl in the front said they were booked out 3 weeks at the other location yet they don't take appointments for oil changes so I don't understand how they can be "booked out" without taking appointments. They are closed on weekends so I guess you have to get there an hour before opening on a weekday to get in and you're still taking a chance at that. Ended up having to somewhere else and paid $106 for an oil change vs what I would normally pay...over a 17 minute difference. Disappointing. read more

Had another noteworthy experience at Yost II this past week that I had to share. I brought my Mazda in for some work. Over the course of the service, I heard that Mark - the gentleman in charge - wasn't feeling well. When I was paying for the service, there was a misunderstanding in the charges. When Mark came out to discuss it with me, he was obviously not doing well. He wasn't his usual smiling self. Even so, he gave me the benefit of the doubt in regard to the charges. Right after that exchange, the poor man went to the hospital! That's pretty good service. But here's where he went above and beyond - he called me the next day to apologize! He was afraid he had come across rudely, and said it had bothered him all night. Now keep in mind, his staff had communicated to me that he wasn't feeling well, so I hadn't thought he was rude at all. And he still took the time to reach out. This is the kind of service Yost II offers, and this is one of the many reasons I trust them with my car. read more

I took their loaner car for the weekend resigned to pay the (still reasonable) $25/day cost, but got a call after I left saying they were waiving the fee in light of the repair expectations. We have all had bad customer service experiences. But sometimes the experiences are so awful that it shakes you up and makes you wonder how people can be so inconsiderate, unaware, and even spiteful. Today, one of the owners of Yost Automotive chose to empower management at their location where I was treated so poorly that I decided to not have my car serviced there, and dispowered the manager at their other location who was willing to make things right. The owner has never met me and did not reach out to me to talk about what happened. Instead she told the manager at the 'good' site not to service my car after I left the 'bad' site and dropped my car off at the other site for repairs. And instead of calling me or offering her phone number to discuss, she had him tell me that any communication about this was to be done through the email address that corresponds to the location where I had the bad experience. I've taken my cars (current and past) to both locations over the years without any issues. I really don't understand why I've been treated this way. Good thing there are plenty of other mechanic shops in Austin who not only do good work, but who really do care about their customers - all their customers. read more

My wife and I recently went here for our respective cars. They did a fine and quick oil change for her and found a few things to look into. For me I used them to fix some concerns a dealer brought up after a recall repair. They did a good job with my only concern being that they charged a diagnostic fee even though I brought to them the concerns the dealer raised. And elected to do the repairs they recommended. Most repair places I've gone to will waive the diagnostic fee when the repairs are done. read more
