This review is for Myra, the massage therapist. That is way overdue. I received my services from her in 2014. I live in DTFullerton since I was a wee lad and pass by this lovely place for many years. During my adult years, my coworker receive hair services here for many years. She's a happy camper - at the same time, she's a baller ;) Me, a poor college student working minimum wage. I tell myself that one day, when I make bank. I shall give this place a shot. Upon shopping via groupon, I discovered a deal that covered for massage services at LUX. Holla! I passed my state boards and told myself that this will be my reward/gift to myself. The groupon was $45 for $100, plus $20 for products. A STEAL right? $45 is a lot when you're not making bank. lol. But a girl gotta treat herself once in a while, esp after nursing school and studying for state boards. Ambiance: Clean setting. The receptionist is super friendly, warm, and inviting. She usually check in to see how I am and let me know the update regarding my wait with my masseuse. Parking: Two spots in the front. And private for the salon in the back. It's hard to navigate since going and out is a snug like LA. Massage: Myra, my masseuse, then greeted me. She took me into a lounge area and have me fill out some paperwork such as medical history and my complain of pain. You'll hop under some sheets and keep you undie on. During my massage, she'll talk a little bit in the beginning, it's so she get to know how your body is (pain, sensitivity, etc) aka assessment. I told her that I work as a nurse. She asked is that my feet and low back hurts due to my job. So smart! She's super strong since I like deep tissue and can tolerate pain. So she butcher my back, calves, and feet - just the way I like and wanted. At the end of our session, i was a loose noodle. :D Tip: Arrive 15 min early to settle in and have cash to tip! You can tip on your card, but I usually tip via cash. Tax break, yo. Massage was $80 for one hour, I added a scalp massage $25. = $105, minus $100 groupon credit. Difference of $5. Plus got face was for $25 minus $20 groupon credit, difference of $5. Groupon $45 for $100 credit, paid $10 difference. Tipped $25 (a little more than 20%). $45+10+25=$75 with tip and a product (value: $155). Not bad! :) Myra was so awesome I set an appointment with my honey as a THANK YOU for his support through my schooling. He said it was the best massage he had EVER had. I have had really questionable experiences using Groupons for haircuts. But after a transcontinental move that took a hard hit on my bank account and some very unruly hair, I decided to give Lux Aveda Salon the benefit of the doubt. I am so glad that I did! Ria spent so much time with me during my appointment- almost two hours- to figure out exactly what I wanted and how to achieve that. Turns out, I had no idea what I wanted, but she helped create the absolute best look for me. She was so patient and understanding of my needs. At the end of our visit she was kind enough to walk me through the steps of styling my new hair so that I could recreate my look at home (which I was able to!). It is really rare for me to rave about a stylist but Ria deserves all of the praise. I cannot believe she is one of the junior stylists. Book with her and you will not regret it at all! I originally came here and unfortunately was frustrated with the outcome of my hair. I came back and saw the art director and he helped me out so much! I am once again in love with my hair and just wish I would have seen him first. After chatting with him about my hair routine, he made some great suggestions and I also realized that some issues with my hair also could have been my desire for heat styling and because I had done some hair processing. He did manage to cut my hair without loosing length and making it look and feel great! How did This not happen at my first visit!?! Either way I left much happier! Wow! AMAZING! I was on groupon trying to find an affordable massage and I came across a lux groupon it was $45 for $100 of a spa service! I checked their yelp page and saw mostly positive reviews. Groupons are always a hit and miss sometimes you question things on why it's so low! You know that saying you get what you pay for. After debating if I wanted to purchase it or not I decided to call them. The girl that answered was super friendly and I asked her if she did same day appointment for groupons. She said yes and my back was already killing me so I said why not so I told her I would give her a call back with the best time for me. I booked my appointment at 315. Once I arrived the parking lot was easy to find but it was already filled up when I got there. So I just reversed and parked on the street. I arrived 15 mins early and they had me seated in the quiet room immediately! Then Mayra came and walked me into the room and asked me a few questions on what I was looking for! She also asked me if I needed any add ons and suggested hot stones. Get them they are life changing!! She also had me smell 3 different oils and let me choose which one I liked. Which is nice some places don't ask you! the massage was great!!!!!! I went to check out and unfortunately my phone ran out of battery but the girl at the front was nice enough to still honor my groupon as long as I called her back with my voucher number. Absolutely loved my experience here at Lux. I called ahead asking about prices and just like my old salon (Carlton Hair in Brea), they have prices ranging by your stylists level at the salon. Totally understandable and unlike most, I understand not all hair is the same! I think its pretty sad that ladies come in thinking that there is one set price for them. Different hair has different accommodations and needs different care. So obviously, the price will always be different. With the great Yelp/Groupon deal, I couldn't say no and booked an appointment. I had bleached blonde Asian hair that was on its last leg of its grey toner. I already had a shadow root but wanted to bring my root color down further to make it more "natural" looking and less, "I haven't gone in for a root touch up for awhile." Essentially, I wanted to go dark again until the middle, where I would be keeping my bleached ends (think reverse ombré). I sat down with my robe and was amazed that I got a little nice neck and back massage. Rituals were not a thing at Carlton Hair. Then came Ria. She sat down next to me, asked me a few questions about my hair, and what I wanted. She came back a few moments later with two options for me. After picking my option, she got to work and after a little over 2 hours, a hand an arm massage, and some lip color, my hair turned out ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Ria effortlessly melted my brown base color into my grey tones to create this beautiful kinda mauve tone on my ends? Whatever color it is, it is gorgeous and I have already had multiple compliments! Now, while Ria was styling my hair she told me she noticed some parts of my hair did not take the color evenly as the rest (not her fault- due to my previous bleached blonde hair). But I appreciate her honestly SO MUCH. Most stylists won't even mention this to their clients so I was really amazed. And in reality, it really didn't bug me and I couldn't even tell. But she asked me to come back so she could fix it for me and I was like sure, why not? I had a wonderful little spa day today, a second day wouldn't be bad at all. I came back a few days later and Ria redid some of the parts where the color didn't take. We had a lovely talk about the Aveda brand and her love of working for Lux and how much she has grown in the last 8 months working there thanks to the staff. I mention this just because I now really love Aveda after being educated about the brand. I now also have a real appreciation for the salon and how they're teaching their stylists. Because I think it's important to know that your stylist is working at a salon that really cares about them because, in turn, they will care that much more about your hair. Anyway, back to it, I didn't know till the end of this session but Ria did this completely free for me. She truly just wanted to make sure she gave 100% on my hair which is just so amazing to me. So you can definitely tell from this lengthy post what a great first (and second) time I had at Lux. I cannot rave enough about my experience and about my wonderful stylist, Ria. And unfortunately, but really fortunately, she did SUCH a good job with the coloring that it'll last awhile and I won't be back for weeks. So even though I won't be back till then, Ria is definitely my new stylist and Lux is definitely my new salon from now on. read more

My teenage daughters first time to get her hair colored so wanted to make sure to get it done at a place where they used quality products and they knew what they were doing. Called and they assigned us to Jacobie. Wow was she awesome! She really took her time to work carefully on my daughters hair and to explain each step. She gave her a color that was not to light so that my daughter would have an easier time to manage and it would give mom some time not to have to go back so fast. Really appreciated all her care . Today was my first time at this salon and Michelle did a great job!! I went in basically needing a correction or 'cleanse' going from light brown to blonde. After consulting with her manager they came up with a few ideas on how to fix my hair with the end result of a medium blonde with shadow roots. My friend recently surprised me with a birthday massage here at Lux with Mayra Velazquez. Best massage I've ever! I am a Fullerton resident and never have been in Lux. Was enticed by the wonderfully aromatic fragrance as I walked in and was greeted with a very friendly and helpful receptionist. She immediately checked me in and guided me to the spa room where I received a delicious hot cup of tea as I waited. Myra came in shortly after and greeted me. She sat and consulted with me for a few minutes to learn a little about me in order to give me a custom massage. I even got to pick out my preferred oil. Mayra is definitely a gifted masseuse. I felt extremely comfortable and relaxed from the moment I walked in the door, up to my reluctant exit . I am very much looking forward to my next massage in a month! read more

I visited Lux on Novermber 19th for the first time. I am new to the Fullerton so I bought a Groupon to find a new stylist in the area. Initially I was booked with new talent but her schedule was backup so they asked if I was willing to work with a higher level stylist for the same price. They threw in a conditioning treatment for the the time change. When I walked in I was greeted by a lovely young lady who offered me a beverage and browsed the retail side of the salon. All products are Aveda and the place smells divine. I was introduced to Liz who would be my stylist for the day. She promptly had me change and was introduce to the young lady who gave me a shoulder and neck massage while Liz mixed her potions. I was once again massage while waiting for color to work it's magic. Needless to say the experience was great and Liz was pleasant, knowledgeable and nice. I will definitely be back read more

Easily the best haircut I've ever had resulted from a visit to this salon. I'm usually not the kind of guy that goes to fancy-schmancy hair salons, but on a recommendation from a friend, I decided to go. I'm glad I did. Penny is whom I was recommended to specifically. Her specialty seems to be men's hair. Most barbers that I've been to, I'm lucky to get a Sports Illustrated that isn't over four months old. Here at Lux, you get a warm cup of coffee or delicious iced tea, an herbal oil neck and shoulder massage. This is a treatment better than I deserve. Penny is very skilled and a fun conversationalist. It was an overall pleasant experience and now I know why so many women go to spas. My wife also comes here and James (the owner) is so good at what he does, that he's booked up for a month at a time. It's not just a haircut, it's an experience. The music is cool, the hair stylists and employees are super friendly and hipster-cool also (in a good way).Maybe other hair salons treat their patrons the same way, but I'm just not that used to it. Unfortunately, as the name suggests, it is a "luxury" and the experience is a little pricey. I would have given the salon 5 stars if I could afford to go there all the time. I spent 50 dollars ($60 with tip) and in my case, that's a budget buster. But, if you can afford it, the overall experience is well worth it. read more

It was my second haircut in a week, I got a bad haircut from another salon. I wanted a pixie cut, but it can be quite challenging to hairstylists, because my hair is very straight, soft, clean and extremely flat. On top of my hair condition, I asked my hairstylist Kasandra to give me a haircut that would both volume up my hair and make my face look longer. Kasandra listened, and she knows what she was doing. The haircut turned out really well! My hair is volumed up even without using any product! I'm pretty amazed, cos she's the first hairstylist ever successfully volumed up my hair! This review is for Amanda B. I've seen her three times now and have walked out really happy and satisfied with my hair on all three occasions. Most recently, I came in with a hair disaster and she was able to fix it on the spot. I just feel that she gets me and what I am looking for, which is a cut with long layers and highlights but super low-maintenance. She is super friendly and really cares about her clients. She also knows when to be chatty and when you want to just relax and read your magazine. And I really appreciate that she is super professional-- she will always inform you on what she is doing, how long you have to sit and wait, when she will come back and check on you, etc. so that you don't feel completely lost. Last time I was in a bit of a rush to finish and she was very conscious of my time. AND best of all, she doesn't push products/services on you or comment on how long you haven't had a haircut (whoops!) Excellent experience, I am super picky when it comes to a hairdresser/Salon. However, I tried Lux Salon today and I am sincerely short of words. I used a Groupon, and paid for the rest out of pocket. Very well worth what I paid, and if I had to pay the full price I would. I was trying to book with another hairdresser that people raved for here in Yelp, and the Salon receptionist told me that she was booked for all the days I was requesting. She told me that there was another available for the day that I needed, and that I would not be dissappointed. Well Thank you receptionist, you hit it in the nail. I am glad I had my service done by "Jordan" she is a Jr Stylist, very knowledgable about hair, haircuts, Aveda products. She is very sweet, understanding and not pushy at all. She suggested that I went with a haircut, that would flattered me more than something I had in mind. And my blowout was amazing, not many people know how to blow dry curly hair straight. The Salon is very clean, smell super good, and offered me a complemetary tea that was out of this world. And I am not even a tea drinker... Will definately come back! read more

I was in much need of a massage I booked a 60min and added on hot stones it was amazing!! Mayra explained everything perfectly I have had many massages in the past this one has to be one of my favorites I received maximum relaxation and pain relief. I loved that she did not try to push any products on me but did explain what she used and why which i truly appreciated. Always pleased with everything there!!! Lux is a decent sized Aveda salon with a small parking lot in the back with street parking in the front. I've been having Chendo cut my hair since before Lux was around and I remain a loyal client. You get a complimentary beverage and a fantastic neck/shoulder massage with your haircut. I always love this as it helps me take a step back and relax some. Chendo is a perfectionist with hair and he's always busy looking from different angles to ensure that the cut is perfect. As I'm usually pretty trusting with him, I generally let him have free license with the little direction I give him when I don't have anything specific in mind. Although I can't say that I'm ecstatic about every single haircut he's given me (not his fault since I didn't actually tell him what I wanted other than 3" off the bottom at least), I'm happy with it after I get a little used to it. They were kind enough to call me last time and have me reschedule as Chendo was a bit behind due to another client, so I wouldn't be there waiting for half an hour. That was very appreciated! I've also tried their spa, getting a couple of massages there. You're taken into a darker more relaxing small lounge inside Lux where it's really surprising how quiet it is considering the louder salon is on the other side of the wall. There's also water in there and you get a moment to relax in your new surroundings while your masseuse (I've had appts with Mike both times) gets details on your stress level and whatnot. You sit back while chatting and getting a foot scrub. You're then taken into your massage room where you sample some scents to determine what to use during your session. The massages are incredibly relaxing and the aromatherapy is great. I've had the 60min massage and the 90min massage. Both are great but I've often felt like the 60min. fly by. If/when I can afford it, I'll go for the 90min again. :) I really have no reason to go elsewhere. It's close by and the service is excellent. read more

I had my hair done here about a week ago and I have to say that I was disappointed with my experience. I bought the Groupon ($50 for $100) and specifically requested their new talent to keep the price low. My hair is naturally dark blonde and I had highlights put in at the beginning of the summer, so there was significant grow out. I told my stylist I wanted to have blonde highlights put back in, and was clear about how light I wanted to go. My hair doesn't look bad,per say, but its been a week and the place she put the highlights in looks barely different than it did before I got it done, albeit a shade or two light in some places. The thing I am most angry about is the cost. She charged me $240 dollars for only half-head highlights and to trim an inch off the back. She didn't even style my hair at the end but just blowdryed it. I will not be returning to this salon since the price is outrageous for not amazing results. read more

She goes above and beyond to make me comfortable, she remembers everything and is just SO sweet. I love there product and I absolutely don't mind the $25 dollar price tag and coming in to fit Anne's schedule (you don't work 24/7 why should they?). I'm pretty pickey when it comes to my nails and Kim G. surpassed my expectations and more. She was very polite, entertaining, and a knowledgable nail tech. She has impeccable skills when it comes to Shellac. I really appreciated her asking me if I liked the shape and look of the overall nail throughout the whole visit. I came here with a groupon just to get a hair cut. I didn't want anything crazy. just to keep my hair very similar to what I have. I just wanted the dry ends cut off a bit ( I showed her a picture ). I was running late because I ran into construction . the girl told me she would do her best. by the time she was done, my hair was left with a chunky gap between the front layers that were supposed to be there and the other layers that we're with the rest of my hair. Lindsay was by far the best esthetician I had ever seen. Extractions are painful. Period. I had a great, relaxing experience and was very pleased with the sit down feedback you receive before and after on expectations and observations on your skin. It's Pricey so I'm definitely iffy about long term, but they seem to try and give out good deals to accommodate which is greatly appreciated. Got my hair done here yesterday by Jordan. I told her all I wanted was a shadow root put in. She knew exactly the look/color I was going for without me having to say much. I mentioned I had a $100 credit groupon and she recommended I add on a deep conditioning treatment to get the most out of my credits since they can't offer money back on the difference. They really make you feel pampered! With complimentary drinks (I had 3 cups of tea), a neck/shoulder massage, head/scalp massage, a hand massage, and make-up touchup all using amazing smelling Aveda products, I left feeling very relaxed and satisfied. I came here to have my hair color fixed after scary things happened as a result of months of at home boxed color. My appointment was with Liz, she was super friendly explained the process, my options, provided pricing and answered all my questions. Also, her assistant was very sweet and gentle while washing and brushing through my curls, which is a big dealto me because most people are intimidated when they see my hair which is curly and abundant. However, I didn't get that vibe here and everyone was very friendly. One of my options did not include bleach, which at this point I thought it was inevitable, understanding that I might not see immediate results I opted for this option as it was less damaging. My color results were beautiful, natural looking and covered all the gray. Sooo happy! The entire experience was excellent from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. read more

I've been comming here for a couple of years now and love it!! I get my hair cut by Sebastian and he does a great job. He's super nice and meticulous with his cuts. He's best at color! Oh my god, I love the color he does for me. I just wish this place was a little cheaper. I've been strapped lately and need to go again badly. I had a disaster with some boxed hair dye and went here for the repairs. Julie was really helpful and listened to the color that I wanted. I was unhappy with my cut and went back for a touch-up and she was really understanding and fixed the issues. I would recommend this salon, but it is a bit on the pricey side (but I suppose that's what you get when you try to do your own hair coloring). Definitely look out for Groupons/Living Social Deals for this place though, and use the first-timer gift cert on Yelp to help save some of the costs. read more

The only reason I am giving four stars is due to the price. They are very pricey, however, my stylist was gracious enough to give me three different tiers of price options which I was very thankful for. I received a cut and color from Carley and she is so wonderful! She is very honest, exciting and interesting. She carried on a conversation, got to know me personally, treated me to a glass of wine, and made sure I was comfortable. Throughout the process, she explained what she was doing so that there were no surprises, something that I truly appreciated as I have been to some sketchy places before. The one regret I have is not doing permanent color and only doing demi-permanent. Regardless, my hair turned out wonderful, I was so relaxed the entire time, and I learned that if I want my hair to look good I need to buy better products- which I did (their products smell amazing and are high quality!).
