I'm new to the area and needed a new salon and a stylist that is familiar with highlighting blonde hair. My friend recommended this salon and I'm thrilled that she did! My first appointment with Megan and she nailed it, was fast (I felt like she added 500 foils into my hair so quickly), she was kind, and with hardly any strategizing on the shade of blonde I asked for (my roots were horrible due to covid and lack of knowing where to go) she absolutely nailed it! I don't have anything negative to say about this salon or Deanna. I have been coming here for at least 7-8 years and I have never once been disappointed..... and I have been OFTEN disappointed in my color (variations of red) in the past!! I trust Deanna explicitly.., she knows me and knows exactly what I'm saying... and she has great style too so I really take her suggestions to heart. I just had my first Deva haircut by Ian. It had been over a year since my last haircut and I had been waiting for that perfect Deva cut since my hair is incredibly curly and any other curly girl could understand my waiting for the perfect stylist! I went in needing some major shaping and a fresh style. Ian was very patient and being the true artist he is, he worked with me in every aspect of this fabulous haircut! Although it only takes me about 10 minutes to create the style I want, I can play with it for hours because of how much fun I am having with my new cut!!! Ian is the best stylist for curly hair I have yet to come across. I came in after surviving through the recent fires and floods in Santa Barbara and my hair was a mess after having not been cut for over 8 months. He took such care and patience in helping me revive it and make me feel beautiful again after so many months of putting my self-care on the back seat. I have been to Lux Beauty Bar on two different occasions to see Akasha and the last experience was THE WORST one I have had in the 10+ years I have been getting my hair done. I was referred to her by a friend in San Diego, and being a Ventura County native I was nervous to go to someone that I wasn't referred to so I called Akasha and set up an appointment. The first time Akasha highlighted my hair, the color near the roots ended up being orange and completely different from the rest of the highlights on my hair. People at work said they didn't like the way it turned out and I wasn't too happy with the results either.... I mentioned it to Akasha and she offered to fix it and after that everything was good. A few months go by and I visit home in Ventura County and get a balayage by a trusted hair stylist that I absolutely loved. A few months after the balayage I called Akasha to set up an appointment for a haircut and toning. My balayaged lightened quite a bit and I wanted it to be toned down a shade or two....by the time Akasha was finished with my hair, my highlights were a greenish/ash tone! My hair looked muddy and awful and my expensive balayage was basically ruined. I didn't want to insult Akasha, so I called the salon and explained the situation and asked if I could talk to a Manager discreetly and if someone else could fix my green/muddy hair color. I sent them a photo of my hair before Akasha touched it and after and they agreed it looked pretty bad. Instead of them fixing my hair, they refused and had Akasha call me. I sent Akasha the before/after photos and instead of her owning up to her mistake - she told me that my hair was never balayaged the color that it was - basically calling me a liar. She also told me she wouldn't fix it, the salon wouldn't fix it and that she would only return my money for the toning but would still charge me for the haircut... It was quite an expensive mistake because I ended up having to get color correction to pull out the muddy green tone and start the highlighting process over again to get the balyaged look I love. I ended up going to my new found FAVORITE hair stylist in Encinitas and she has been able to get my hair back to the balayage color that I adore. I have been to her multiple times now and have been happy with the results every single time. Bottom line, I would never go to Lux Beauty Bar again because they charged an arm and a leg to mess up my hair. Fixing their mistake was even more expensive! This salon is not professional in the way that they handle issues. Best of luck to anyone that goes here. read more

I just went to a wedding in NorCal over the weekend. While there I saw people that I haven't seen since high school (15 years). The one common theme of the event...people couldn't stop complimenting my hair! The color is a PERFECT ombré and the cut creates body, bounce, and fullness like a photo shoot. It was epic wedding hair! This has not always been my life. Before 2008 I had bad hair. Seriously. Bad. Hair. The color was a tragic combination of store bought box base and brassy over processed highlights. The cut was not so much a "style" as it was a statement of surrender.... and I would tie it back EVERYDAY . I really just wanted great hair. Hair I could be proud of. Hair that I wanted to wear down and free flowing all the time. Hair that people would stop and take notice of, because that's what you do when you see a rainbow or a unicorn. Then in 2008 I found Akasha. Hair game changer!!!!! She is an absolute hair genius!!!! I followed her when she transitioned to Lux and she is the only person I truly trust with my hair. No one can do hair like Akasha! She is one of the best stylists in San Diego and I have sent her several referrals over the years including friends, family, and coworkers. Everyone loves her and they have all remained loyal clients. Lux Beauty Bar is a gorgeous and relaxing salon and I love going there. I look forward to it every time. I'm really careful and choosy when it comes to allowing someone to do my hair, but when I came in to Lux I was not disappointed! I've heard and seen work from the salon's head stylist Michel Benaroch from some good friends and decided to try him out. I received a full head color back to black, a trim, and a styled blow out. He was so friendly and the turnout was just amazing! He pointed out tips to maintain my hair, what my hair specifically needed in its condition, and had many products right there and then for me to purchase to support it!
