Love this little Mom and Pop Shop. However the cook does need some help he's the one taking the orders and the one making the orders. Can never go wrong with their fried calamari or their fried tofu. Their bone soup is definitely my hangover cure
just updating to say a large noodle order was enough for 3 meals for me so it's def worth the upgrade. however rice noodles don't keep as well for the next day so i'd order egg noodles for a large i also rly like the community vibe of this place, it seemed like all the patrons were regulars & the owner(?) was like a friendly uncle :)
Hole-in-the-wall Cambodian/Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. No frills. Just simple and comforting noodle dishes. You know this place is legit when you only see older folks dining here lol. Like they could be my aunts, uncles, grandpas. I came here for one thing and one thing only. Phnom Penh (regular size $14), choice of noodles (flat /thin egg noodles, or flat / thin rice noodles). I opted with some flat rice noodles & dry style (has beef broth on the side). It was so warm and delicious!! Portions are so generous. Hard workers and the owner is so sweet. When I was eating, I observe him making conversation with every one of his customers and almost know them by name or usual orders. Impressive! Glad this business has a loyal customers. Thanks to Yelp for suggesting this gem to me. Parking is kinda small in the area but luckily I got dropped off so I didn't have to deal with that.
Came back to Ly Heng today after what feels like forever. I'd been here a very long time ago and honestly couldn't remember what it was like, so I figured it was time to give it another shot. I went with the Phnom Penh noodles (dry) since they seem to be the local favorite. They were pretty decent! Noodles were cooked perfectly, and the bone broth on the side was comforting. But it didn't exactly blow my mind. Maybe I set my expectations too high, or maybe this dish just isn't my go-to noodle dish. Side note: I've tried calling this place on multiple occasions and... they never answer the phone. Don't count on calling in an order. Just show up. My friend mentioned that their shrimp fried rice is good, so I might be back to try that one day. All in all, not a bad experience, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
The food here is really good. The service is okay. They are nice and the ambiance is family friendly. :)
Man I love this place. The Phnom Penh Noodles here were perfect and definitely hit the spot. The broth was simple but complex at the same time. Very authentically Cambodian cuisine. Restaurant is family runned and the owner there was very nice as well. Food came out at a decent speed and the shop wasn't too big. For the size, it was quite busy. Only con was that I couldn't take food to go .
This is my favorite spot for hủ tiếu! They serve excellent Phnom Penh-style rice noodles, and both the soup and dry versions are delicious. The flavors are very similar to what I've had in Vietnam. My husband's favorite is the stir-fried flat rice noodles--they have that perfect wok hei aroma. Portions are very generous too. The restaurant is usually not very crowded, so we get seated and served quickly. Definitely a place we keep coming back to.
After what seems like a 5 year hiatus, i finally had the chance to return back to Ly Heng to see if the food was still as delicious as I remembered -- here's my honest updated review as a San Diego foodie who made a vlog about this restaurant that went viral lol I stopped by on a random weekday morning around 1030am with a friend and there were only about two other tables occupied . The sweet older woman greeted me right away as I walked in and offer us some waters . Because i used to come here almost every Sunday back in the day, i knew the menu pretty well and placed the order . Our food came out fairly quickly as the restaurant was pretty empty--- here's what we ate: SALT & PEPPER CALAMARI: Just as tasty as I remembered . I love the batter with the extra crunchy fried garlic and green onions . The dipping sauce is pretty basic as always-- reminds me of just a spicy mayo . Overall, still one of my favorite appetizers . 8/10 PHNOM PENH NOODLES: This was THEE dish we use to come for because the bone broth that comes on the side used to be sooo flavorful and would cure any hangover lol -- this time it was pretty mid . We ordered this dish "dry" with thin egg nooodles . The egg noodles itself was dressed nicely savory with plenty of garlic and herbs. It comes with a variety that of proteins -- minced pork, unbattered calamari, imitation crab, meatballs, and shrimp . The bone broth this time tasted different and a little more on the sweeter side than id like . Overall, not bad and still satisfied my cravings . 7.5/10 BEEF SATE NOODLES: We order with with thick egg noodles for a nice chewy bite . The sauce this comes with is super rich, creamy, and heavy on the peanut butter . This is definitely a dish that should be shared . The beef that they use is on the cheaper side, so its a bit rough and not so tender . I think if i were to ever order this dish again the future, i would substitute out the beef with chicken or even shrimp . This is supposed to be a play on the Thai dish "chicken satay", but over noodles . Overall, the presentation is really pretty, but flavor could be much better-- this dish had major potential . 6.5/10 Honorable mentions-- their mee-ka-thang (gravy chow fun) is really flavorful and always hits the spot . This is served with thick rice noodles, vegetables, your choice of protein, topped with their homemade savory gravy, and fried eggs on top . I love eating this with sriracha . I didn't eat this during this visit, but the table next to us ordered it and it looked the same as it always does . Their beef loc lac rice dish and house fried rice are also a few of our faves . Overall, the customer service was good, the restaurant seemed cleaner, and the food hit the spot for what we were craving . Sidenotes-- this is a small mom&pop ran business, so wait times are normally long if they're busy . Also, parking is pretty rough since their lot fits only like 2 cars--
Nice little corner restaurant. Parking can be challenging. The broth of the side soup is so flavorful and the meat bones are tender and tasty. The dry noodles come with a sauce and quite filling. However the flavor was a tad underwhelming in the sauce. The service was helpful and nice!
I have no words to describe how good this place is, this might've changed the trajectory of my San Diego living. It's located on a corner and street parking may be a little tough but it's located by a neighborhood. This establishment is a combination of Cambodian/Vietnamese cuisine with its menu being carefully selected to serve their best dishes. I actually love that their menu is smaller as someone who has choice paralysis when she sees soo many options. We ordered 3 dishes: the salt and pepper calamari (MUST GET), stir fried flat wide noodles with beef, and Phnom Penh noodle soup. The calamari is probably the best calamari I've had so far, it honestly is a stand alone dish even without the dipping sauce that comes with it. It's the perfect ratio of batter crust to squid. I reallllllly enjoyed this appetizer. The Phnom Penh noodles is Hu Trieu's direct cousin; broth is so light and fragrant. I can imagine eating this the day after a night out. The stir fried flat noodles were also pretty good, it reminds me of pho ap chao but the noodles were not fried. All in all, I'm definitely making my boyfriend come back with me. The service can be a little slow but the food is so good that I don't mind and I'm more than happy to support a mom and pop shop.
Loved this little mom & pop restaurant. The server / owner of the restaurant (?) was very friendly and welcoming. He came to check in on every table. I heard about this restaurant through an Instagram Reel and was pleasantly impressed. I loved the salt & pepper calamari! I usually don't care for calamari but it was so crunchy and delicious. I really enjoyed the Phnom Penh noodles as well. The Beef Lok Lak was okay; I wouldn't re-order that. I also liked the Thai Tea. Thank you for the great food and service!
I didn't know i haven't reviewed this place yet and I've been coming here for over a decade. The restaurant is very tiny. Its a mom and pops type of restaurant. The flavor here is very good. Its loaded with flavor! They have my favorite egg noodle stir fry in gravy and the best calamari with fried garlic. Their chow fun in gravy is also exceptional. My only one complaint is the time it takes for me to get my food. It's a bit of a wait, BUT the wait is worth it. Excellent food here.
I went here because I had a curious craving for Cambodian food and this place was the perfect. I got a fill of some new flavors bursting in my mouth. I was happy to find this place before closing time. The place is small however clean. The service was fast too. I will have to stop by again whenever I'm in San Diego.

Omg where to start! I found this restaurant years ago and got seared in my taste buds but not my GPS. I ended up having a clinical rotation in city heights and I saw it again, this place is an absolute jewel! Great prices and even better food! The owner would know me and immediately prep what I would always order! The beef soup is to die for ! Everyone is very amicable and if you're in the mood, the chat quite a bit as well! The restaurant is simple yet cozy and great for a family luncheon or just a work quick bite, they serve food very fast ! Amazing taste I only hope my review gives them more business !!! read more
It's been awhile since we've been back. Since we were in the neighborhood, decided to stop in before the lunch rush. The menu is quite small & simple now compared to before. I was a bit bummed that they no longer have the pure rice noodles (pinned noodles) anymore. But that didn't deter us from leaving. Hubby had the House Fried Rice & I had their Phnom Penh Dry Noodles. Large portions!!! Easily can feed a family of four. Food is still delicious & service is awesome as ever. The owner (I'm assuming) is attentive, nice & very chatty in a good way. If you haven't tried this small local gem yet, give them a try! You won't regret it. Note: large portions & affordable prices. read more

The years long construction on the street in front of the doors has been so annoying but def hasnt stopped anyone from coming in. They have a tiny lot behind the restaurant itself you can park at. The flow of customers are good, they're small but always get full. Not overly packed though. It's always my go to for dry noodles with my mom. She always orders the large& take home what she can't finish, which is usually half the big ol bowl! They are generous with the proteins/toppings. The stir fry noodles were presented in a layered pile of yumminess! The gravy for the stir fry was so savory &light. It wasn't overpowering. The eggrolls had a decent amount of Stuffing and was made with either pork or chicken i think. It was extra extra crispy& hot. Took a while to cook down. Or maybe I was just impatient the only thing I didn't get pictured was the Thai tea without boba& that was probably my only quip. It was a little too sweet for me& not enough of the tea flavor. I love love love this restaurant! It's a smaller family run business with delicious food. We ordered the salt and pepper tofu, regular sized phnom penh noodles with and regular sized beef saté with wide egg noodles that came with a side of bone soup. The portions are very generous for the price! Everything also came out very fast and piping hot. The fried tofu was very crispy and was topped with fried garlic, green onion and jalapenos. The phnom penh noodles were very flavorful and had a lot of pieces of meat and seafood. The beef saté noodles were also a very generous portion and very flavorful! It was also a pretty good level of spice! The bone broth that came with the saté noodles had a deep flavor and a lot of meat that fell off the bone. I will be coming back to try more things! read more

My daughter brought me and my husband to this restaurant and it's very good! I had the small Phnom Penh dry noodle and it comes with a small bowl of pork rib soup. The portion size is a lot and prices are so cheap. I recommend this place to my to other older Asian friends. read more
I met up with a friend here and he waited for me to come inside since the area is a bit ghetto. I ordered the Hainanese chicken dish and he got the Phnom Penh noodle dish with a side of bone broth. The dishes were yummy and meal was inexpensive. We were satisfied with everything! It's a great little spot to get some good Cambodian food! read more
Food was really good and the owners were super friendly and nice. It's a small mom and pop restaurant and we ordered 3 dishes with 2 appetizers and they came out very quickly. We got fried calamari and fried tofu and they were good. Between the two, I liked the friend tofu the most as it was soft on the inside and crispy outside. The calamari was okay. We all ordered noodle soups, with two of them being dry noodles. I ordered the dry noodle and it pretty much very similar to a pho ga except the soup comes as a side. The soup was amazing, really good broth and the noodle bowl itself was quite filling. We got more food than expected. Ambiance was good, we went in a Saturday evening and were seated almost right away. Parking is street parking or you can park in the plaza close to the restaurant in the shopping plaza. read more
Phnom peng noodles! This place has the best prices for the amount of food they give. The amount of food is hefty for the price tag. Bone broth comes with a piece of large beef on the bone that falls right off. I really enjoy the flavor of this comforting soup. This is a Cambodian/Vietnamese fusion mom and pop shop. Be sure to check they're open before coming! They're closed on Wednesdays and open from 11-3pm; 5pm-8pm all other days! read more

Remember yelp has no options to put zero stars? Well here, there is no option to put more than five stars here! The flavors are authentic! The secret recipe is from one cook alone!! Vegetarian and meat lovers in one roof. Vegan Garlic Tofu!!! Yum. The fried rice with the egg!!! The egg noodles- freshly made. You can tell because you can taste the alkalinity when you taken air when wine tasting. The vegetables are warm and crunchy!!! I took the old pictures down and just showed the current ones. Saw this place as a recommendation on Instagram and it was the best recommendation I have ever had. The food was absolutely amazing I ordered the beef sate plate to go, the wait was about 20 minutes and it was more than worth it. This was my first time having Cambodian food, after the first bite I had to set the noodles down and just think about how amazing it tasted. The noodles were creamy and spicy with the perfect amount of crunch from the peanuts. Personally it was too spicy for me and I had to take breaks from eating but it was just so delicious and amazing. The portion size is also very large. This place is a 10/10 and I would recommend it to everyone read more

Ly Heng is one of my all-time favorite places! Everyone I bring here loves the Phnom Penh dry noodles, which come with a separate bowl of flavorful soup. The portions are generous -- sometimes enough for two people to share -- and the taste is always rich and satisfying. I've been coming to this restaurant for years; although the prices have gone up a little, the quality and flavor have stayed just as good as ever. read more

This place is mom's and pops but super underrated! It's so clean and food so flavorful! All the favs on the menu - everything I loved growing up in a Cambodian household. The simplest menu but the best! I wish they had more restaurants like this in the I.E. service is great and everyone always so nice! We have to stop by almost everytime we visit SD. read more

This is a small, family-run pop restaurant in City Heights, serving authentic Cambodian flavors. Service is minimal since the owner does it all--welcoming guests, cooking, and closing out checks--plus there's only one busser. That said, patience is key because the food is absolutely worth it. We visited during the last hour before closing, so it was pretty quiet, with most customers picking up takeout. The owner took the time to chat with us about his business, his kids, and how he gives back to the community. The ambiance was chill and enjoyable, whether you're dining solo or with friends. We visited Ly Heng as a family of five with a 15-month-old. I ordered the wonton noodle soup, my husband had the Bo Luc Lac, my mom and brother got the Phnom Penh special (not pictured), and my sister-in-law ordered the beef sate (also not pictured). Unfortunately, the food quality has declined since my last visit a couple of years ago during the pandemic. While the food now seems fresh, it is of lower quality. The Phnom Penh noodles no longer include intestines, the noodles were overcooked and soggy, and the soup was overly salty. The beef in the Bo Luc Lac was tough and not tender, making it hard to chew through, and we ended up throwing away several pieces. The wonton wasn't great either, as the meat was very tough. Additionally, the service wasn't very friendly. Parking is also super difficult with the current street construction. Regrettably, we won't be returning. read more
This place reminds me of home! The broth is so soothing and comforting. I usually get the dry version of the noodles and sip on the broth on the side. They have sauces on the table to add to the dish if needed including hoisin sauce, jalapeños and chili. The portions are huge and they dont skimp on the meat toppings. The salt and pepper tofu is hot, crunchy and steamy right out of the kitchen. When dipped in the sauce, its the perfect combo. The dishes come out quickly and its the perfect recovery and home-y meal. I will be back to try their other dishes including the beef satay noodles! read more
