Thanksgiving Travel Brought us to stop in at Jackie's and are we grateful we did. What a charming! Welcome we received and the Hot tea and Ginger Carrot soup was a perfect Warm up on the Cold Windy November Day. We enjoyed a lovely Brunch! Called them about being pet friendly yesterday and 7 of us with 2 dogs get here and nobody wants to take care of us out in the patio. Small and quaint. Fun to read about the owner's background. Strong coffee. Competent and friendly servers. I applaud asking for condiments to cut down on waste. Our breakfast was so-so. This is a neighborhood gem! We drove from Chicago specifically for this experience. It's a nice simple interior with a bakery store around the back. Customers seem to be of all ages and the owner is very active in community. I hear it can get busy after church on Sundays. Lovely place. Great service. Good food. Super fresh. I order the frittata, which I was surprised had hashbrowns in it, but they served it along with a couple pieces of the sweetest melon and a super healthy pile of gray spinach salad, lightly dressed with just enough homemade dressing to make it edible. Coffee honestly was a little less than mid. Seemed like Folgers or something. My dad had the eggs Benedict and he said the bernaisse sauce was for real. Very reasonably priced. Would certainly go again. Big disappointment to was somebody posted a picture of asuhkra (sp?) here on yelp like they served it. But they don't. But that's not their fault. Jackie's Cafe was very yummy! We ordered a variety of items and all were very tasty. My chicken Caesar salad was massive and only $12, which definitely can't be beat. French toast was exceptionally delicious. Would definitely recommend! Side note, if you get cold easily I would highly recommend a sweater/ jacket. The service was very good! A really off-putting experience! Unfriendly service right off the bat. And the food was weird...and gross. Everything tasted off. Our egg scrambles were a good size, but the veggies weren't fresh and the sausage in mine was grisly and had a tainted flavor. The worst were the hash browns!! So...they had a creamy texture I didn't mind, but they were so bitter. Maybe old oil? Then my friend got a piece of burned toast with squished blueberries and some sort of lemon curd/jam...really bad. We didn't feel so well after this meal. read more

This place is exactly what you would expect from a small town breakfast spot. Friendly staff, slower service, and a no frills breakfast menu that hits the spot on a Sunday morning. I had the eggs Benedict. It was classic and yummy. I felt the portion was a bit small to be almost $14 and not include a side. I know this is a vacation town but during the off season it seemed kind of steep! The restaurant interior feels like you are eating in your grandmother's house which is absolutely adorable. I don't get the hype whatsoever. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? The recommended 'make your own eggs' dish you could only choose 1 meat, 1 veggie, and a type of cheese then they up charge. The large OJ was a tiny glass - but was good. The toast was OK but came out cold. The eggs were over cooked and didnt taste good quality, and only had a couple pieces of broccoli in it that I ordered. The hash browns had creaminess inside that I didnt hate but my husband didnt like. Positive was that coffee was fair trade organic, but then they only had white table sugar, fake sweeteners, and those little processed creamers with a long shelf life. Husband wanted to order a waffle but they had no whipped cream so he said nevermind and got the Buffalo Bill. He didnt like it. Everything tasted like something you get out of a hotel continental breakfast. The place was kind of cute inside - lots of pastels. There's a nice patio too, They had a wait out the door that was hard to understand since they had several tables available the whole time we ate. Maybe due to staff on hand that day. This was the only miss we had food wise for anywhere in the area we went. I dont like negative reviews impacting small businesses (that are kind), so I bumped it up. I just wouldnt get hopes up for the food here if you're looking for the kind of breakfast dishes we got. Very very blah. read more

Very average, almost bland food. Service is mediocre and not very friendly. No ambience inside whatsoever...felt like I was eating in grandmas basement. Very limited menu options. Toast comes with super yummy lemon curd, but bread was ice cold. They pre toast the toast and let it sit on the kitchen counter as I saw from the window next to the parking lot. Wouldn't let me sub an English muffin for toast, even for an up charge, yet they clearly have English muffins in other dishes...bacon was soggy and chewy. Had high hopes but overall just kinda blah. read more

Overpriced and not many options. Most options are a bit out there. Ordered chicken and waffles and it came with a bed of spinach on top with balsamic. Nauseating. The chicken was not seasoned, didn't even taste like it had salt on it. Just panko bread crumbs. I've been here a few times and I am always leaving disappointed no matter what I've tried. They give you the smallest little disposable cups of condiments instead of just giving you bottles of them. It's a complete waste of plastic. They don't even ask if you want them so they bring all the options to you regardless and then throw them away if you don't use them so it's just a waste and bad for the environment. read more

Lets just start with the Blueberry French Toast. It is the most popular item on the menu for a reason. It is real and it is spectacular. And here is a hint. The regular toast comes with a little container with lemon curd and one with blueberry jam. Add those to the french toast instead of syrup. You will not be sorry. We also had an excellent make your own sctamble with broccoli and bacon. Coffee wasn't bad. Would definitely return. read more

Great little rural route dinner with a highly lifted menu. Not your typical greasy spoon. I had the Eggs Florentine. It had a well pouched egg and real chef made hollandaise sauce. The crepe's were great too. Full of fresh veggies and gluten-free by using rice flour. Well worth the stop. read more

Such a great, cute cafe a short walk from downtown New buffalo! They have a small outdoor patio in the back that is dog friendly. The servers are super friendly and great! The food is delicious. We got the benito, a build your own (veggie) scramble, the blueberry French toast and the carb friendly frittata. The scramble had generous amounts of the veggies, the jalapeño Cornbread in benito was perfection, and the frittata was light and fluffy and delicious. The blueberry French toast was really great too. Definitely recommend if you're in New Buffalo visiting! read more

I hate to give a review. This place is really great but always crowded. The ambience is like a very nice diner with a European flair. The food is great, pancakes that melt in your mouth- I do miss the ginger bread pancake's Eggs Benedict? Sure. Three types each uniquely different... And the team ? Tremendous! This little place will surprise you. The food is fresh and breakfast has a nice variety of choices. It's been clean and bright every time I've been there. The food is delivered to your table as quick as it's ready. So the food is as warm as it should be. Jackie usually makes a visit to greet the diners when she's not busy preparing the food. My husband said they have the best eggs Benedict in New Buffalo and I'm a big fan of the Frittata of the day. If you get a chance, wander in the back door to see what baked goods Jackie has cooked up. My favorite is her pecan bars. I now like them better than a pecan pie. The dining area is small. It can handle a large group but, it's better for groups of 4 or less. As better weather hits, table wait will be longer. read more

History

Established in 2014.

At age18, Jackie Shen left Hong Kong to come to Ottumwa, Iowa to go to college. Awestruck by the vastness of the land and friendliness of the people, she fell in love with America. To earn tuition Jackie would go to Chicago in the summers to waitress in a diner. She graduated from the Houston Hilton School of Management and with jobs at the Ritz Carlton, Water Tower Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency she honed her management skills and gained first hand experience in various aspects of the hospitality industry. After success in her first business, a diner on Chicago's Northwest side of Chicago, Jackie's ultimate calling to cook was answered when she went to work for famed chef Jean Banchet at Le Mer and then as an apprentice at Le Francais.

As a chef Jackie has received national recognition, numerous awards and honors, including an invitation by Mayor and Mrs. Daley to cook for the President of China during his visit to Chicago. She has also been very active throughout her career in organizing culinary talent to raise money for charity to support Chicago area children's hospitals, women's shelters, 9/11 and Katrina relief and animal care. Along with her passion for cooking giving back continues to be a priority for Jackie Shen, who, as an immigrant, is keenly aware of the great opportunities that have been afforded to her in adopted country of America.

Dessert was a must and I went with their sticky toffee pudding. This was another triumph, wonderful toffee bits and soft finish. Frankly I'm a little sad that this place is so far away from where I live, or I would be inclined to come back just to have dinner.

Our waitress, Julia, went above and beyond--she even surprised our dog with a pup cup, which was such a thoughtful touch and made us feel incredibly welcome. That level of kindness and attention really added to the enjoyment of our meal. If you're visiting, we highly recommend: * Perch Po' Boy * Perch Fish and Chips * Mahi-mahi Fish Tacos * And definitely start with the housemade chips with sour cream dip--it's the way to go! Great food, excellent service, and a place that warmly welcomes furry family members--what more could you ask for? We will absolutely be back and highly recommend Casey's to anyone in the New Buffalo area.

One of the steaks was missing the blue cheese crust entirely, and two others were completely overcooked. On top of that, none of the steaks had the garlic herb butter they are supposed to come with. When we asked about it, we were told it was "under the cheese," which was simply not true. We sent one steak back because it was so overcooked it was inedible, only for the replacement to come out just as overcooked. At that point, it felt like no one in the kitchen cared about quality or accuracy at all. To make matters worse, we were told they had aioli available, which they actually did not. The timing was just as unacceptable as the food. My drink took 35 minutes to arrive, and our entrées came out an hour and a half after the appetizers--just for everything to be wrong. For a place that charges premium prices, this level of service and execution is honestly shocking. Overall, this was a complete waste of money and time. I would not recommend Copper Rock to anyone expecting quality food or competent service.
