This is a little odd in that I am reviewing the work of a company that did no work for me. How can that be? Like this: We inquired about having a cinder block with a sight tilt replaced. In one case the contractor wouldn't even come out; he stated that if there is ANY tilt, it must be replaced. Another came out and, without even looking over the wall to see where it is based - about three feet lower than our yard, on our neighbor's side - said it needed to be replaced and quoted us $9k. And there are other similar stories. But Lyle came out personally, inspected carefully and determined that, though the wall did have a slight tilt, it had likely been that way, or close to it, since it was originally built in 1963! He determined that the wall was stable and the replacement was unnecessary. This meant passing up the approximately $9k the other contractor couldn't resist. So, I can't actually speak to Lyle's work or even his pricing, but in a world where trust is hard to place, his honesty is worth at least five stars. read more

We had a simple need -- to replace a badly damaged and deteriorating 57 year old wooden fence bordering our back yard. Following a word-of-mouth recommendation, we contacted Lyle Lavietes to come out to look at our situation. While this was not the kind of major landscape project Lyle is used to, he focused on our needs and made a reasonable offer to cover a 3-day project to remove our old dying fence, plus a lot of ivy and other foliage, and the installation of a new 6-foot vinyl privacy fence with gate. Having a high comfort level with Lyle, we went ahead with the contract. Everything was accomplished on schedule, thanks to Lyle's oversight and the skills of his excellent team. Lyle was also helpful in the choice of some new plants to to decorate the base of the fence as well as taking care of some sprinkler corrections and some minor outdoor structural issues. We hired Lyle to help us clean up a very overgrown slope in the backyard. We had done redone our landscaping a few years prior, but I think with all the rain this winter, it just grew into one big mess with lots of weeds. Lyle came by in no time, looked at the area, and quoted a price for what would be a day's work. He was extremely professional, polite, and communicative. My Agoura Hills project was the replace some 88 square feet of thirsty lawn with new planting and ground cover that would require a minimum amount of watering. From a Las Virgenes Water District list of licensed landscape contractors, I received 3 bids with Lyle Lavietes Landscape Contractor being the lowest. On Lyle's advice, I was able to get the Water District to extend the deadline on my approved rebate because some of the existing dormant weeds could not be properly eradicated until warmer weather forced them into new growth. His crew arrived early one Monday morning and had my landscape plan turned into reality in just 3 short days time. Just 3 days to strip the area clean of growth, install new low-flow sprinkler lines and drip tubes, install a battery operated water controller, plant of 3 different color native plantings through water permeable 'cloth' that would keep the rock ground cover from being swallowed up and finally spreading a ton of nice, smooth, light-colored rock over it all. The entire front area of my house was then cleaned up, including planted areas not involved with the project, large roots of two shrubs removed as part of the project and all trash and debris driven away which left it all nicely clean. As a final testimony to Lyle's honesty, I was given a substantial credit for excess material & plants that had been included in his low bid but found not to be needed after all. That money could have been pocketed and I would have been none the wiser. I would gladly offer the name of Lyle Lavietes' Simi Valley Company to anyone looking for, in my opinion, an honest and reasonably priced company that had a very hard-working and experienced team of workers who carried out my plans to completion. I contacted Lyle Lavietes because he did the artificial grass installation at my golf course. I wanted to replace my backyard grass with artificial turf. We agreed on price and Lyle started with killing the existing grass. Once the grass was dead, his crew started work and continued every day until the work was done. They showed up at 8 AM (sometimes earlier) and worked efficiently all day. As the job progressed, I added more work (plants, tree removal, pool grouting) which was quickly completed.
