Tonight we were both craving something light and flavorful and I found LaSen's menu seemed to fit the bill. I got the Lemongrass salmon and my husband chose the teriyaki chicken. The chicken, from what my husband said, was "okay."he also said he wouldn't cross the street to eat it again, but it looked decent. On the other hand, my salmon was cooked by someone who much have a vengeance against seafood. It was super dry, like leather, with hard edges that permeated what could have possibly been the soft center. It might as well have had bones in it, I wouldn't have noticed. The sauce it came with was fine, as was the rice, but the dish was overloaded with very sour dressed jicama and raw onion. The only saving grace was that there was a lot of basil. Overall, I am not sure I would ever order from LaSen again. This is a small chain, and they do traditional Vietnamese food. All the vegetables are so fresh and cooked to retain their flavor. Love the decor. Haven't had a bad experience in the many times I've came. I always enjoy my food here. Vietnamese coffee is good not too sweet but strong. I'm finicky about Cha Gio, so was disappointed last week as these very special rice paper rolls are an important aspect of Vietnamese cuisine and need to be made fresh; wheat wrappers ruin the essential texture and flavor. La Sen has a reasonably good menu and we ordered the vermicelli Bun Dac Biet with extra Nuc Mam sauce, which was served in style. It was apparent the Cha Gio were wheat wrapped and one bite confirmed this. Furthermore the filling was totally mush! Great food, kind customer service. This restaurant has a lovely dining area, dark colors with good lighting make it a cozy date spot, solo dinner or an evening with friends. I always enjoy the food here. The salad rolls with peanut sauce are SO tasty! The parking lot is a little tight, and stressful, but that's not La Sen's fault. We have been on a vermicelli bowl kick, as of late. I like the Pho place in Sandy and have tried a couple over the past month. We stopped in around 1pm and they looked like lunch rush was just finishing as we got the last table but people were leaving. Service was fast, but as usual when they don't write your order down it does turn out the way you expect. We ordered salad rolls and she never put them in. That was the one star reduction. They give you water in disposable cups and don't come back once they leave your food. Food was very fresh and vegetarian dressing for bowl was really good. A great Vietnamese spot with a modern touch. While seated and waiting to order we noticed a looong line of Togo orders waiting to be picked up, and took it as a hopeful sign of things to come. The food was great, awesome quality and presentation. I would say that the prices are a bit higher than what I'd usually expect at a home style viet/pho place. And with quality comes other effects, as the service was impacted by how busy the Togo orders were going. We couldn't sit at a larger more comfortable table, even though the restaurant was not even a third full. Also getting the bill took a while, because the service was getting slammed with phone orders and pick ups. Nonetheless, a small price to pay for some good eats. Ordered the fresh coconut spring rolls (not pictured), beef noodle soup, and catfish clay pot (not pictured). Both were packed with flavor, especially the clay pot. While we have been here many times this was by far our worst experience. There were 4 adults and two kids in our group (two checks) and since there were 6 of us they added an 18% gratuity to our bill which blew my mind because typically that isn't done unless parties are 8 or more at most restaurants. On top of that neither of us realized they had added the tip and then tipped additionally. I'm sure our server was happy receiving almost $60 in tips but I felt like they should have told us they were going to add the gratuity automatically and not just say well it's in the bottom of the menu when we called to inquire about it. My daughter and I eat here every week, usually at the West Linn location. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. We almost always get the pho and either lemongrass tofu with vegetarian egg roll, or the eggplant clay pot. We have also enjoyed the vegetarian egg rolls as an appetizer. First, I found a small fly in my salad rolls and decided to just ignore it and try to enjoy the rest of my meal. Which was overpriced and overall underwhelming. Great find in West Lynn. Really nice ppl and excellent service here. Called ahead as I wanted to confirm outdoor seating for our dogs. Here near portland EVERYTHING closes early like 9pm (which is early for us Bay Area Night Owls). Anyway, I let them know we were to arrive at 8:40 which is when they normally take theur last order for food. The outdoor seating is basically a few tables on their front sidewalks but its great for those that have dogs. The food was really good for vietnamese fusian. Lu lac Beef - really good flavors and nice combo with cherry tomatoes n greens Drunken Chicken - Remind me of general tsou chicjen .. chicken was tender moist with batter and sweet sauce Sai gon - Combo grilled meats (shrimp, chicken, pork) Lemon grass Chicken - spicy but pretty good Appetizer Wings - was ok not sweet not spicy not salty probably my least fave The Thai Ice Tea here Was Excellent!!! 04/02/19: 4.5 out 5 - This place is actually the first location before its expansion. Much like the other locations, this place has very good food, great table service and you can order at the counter to go. The place isn't a very big space, but it is clean and decoratively tasteful. La Sen has a variety of Vietnamese items to choose from. Was very surprised to see that they do have Banh Mi, which is a Vietnamese sandwich on a French baguette of sorts. All which is quite tasty and not very pricey. Definitely recommend trying it once and decide for yourself. I'll definitely go back when in the area. Enjoy! read more

We normally go to one in Tualatin, but we tried this one since we were close by. We went in at like 8:20pm to dine in. Servers looked at each other and immediately made faces like they were annoyed. Service wasn't all that good, 8:50ish, they came to our table and said they want us to pay. Which I understand they have to start closing the tab. At 9:01, one of the server came and said "we closed at 9. I can bring you boxes." .... Yes. They basically said "leave asap". Needless to say that got us upset. Got the Hue spicy noodles and Saigon bowl with vermicelli noodles. I love the amount of proteins and fresh veggies in each dish but the sweetness of both dish really overpowers other flavors and texture of both dishes. I wanted to sip on the spicy broth but it tasted more like a spicy syrupy broth. This is my first time having Hue style noodle which is something I've always wanted to try. The grilled pork was also sweet sweet. The shrimps were tough and over cooked. They definitely feel like they've been cooked for a while like in the morning like before that. Both noodles have great texture, they're soft but still firm. I love Vietnamese food and this is the first time I'm complaining about it being overly sweet. I generally love the savory and umami taste from fish sauce in Vietnamese cuisine but sadly I didn't get it from this place. read more
