Lúa Viet is a Vietnamese restaurant in the Heights. I tend to go to Bellaire Blvd for all my Viet eats but wanted to try something closer and decided to give Lúa Viet a try. You order before sitting down, and I got a phở gà and cơm gà xối mỡ. I tried to give them some leniency because it is the one of the few Vietnamese restaurants within the inner loop, but the phở gà was the blandest phở I have ever had. The broth had no depth and lacked seasoning. They did give a large portion of noodles, which I usually prefer, but the broth was so lacking, I could not finish it. The cơm gà xối mỡ was okay. I was really disappointed and am not sure if I would give them a try again.

Door dashed on a buy one get one free night- I elected the pickup/takeout option and food was ready fast! Staff very friendly. Shaking tofu dau hu luc lac was really tasty. I'm not someone who regularly eats tofu.. but this dish was solid. Proton size was large, traveled well for takeout, flavors were spot on!

Came by for a quick lunch on a weekday. Lia Viet is located is a newer spot on Durham. There's a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant with free parking. The interior is clean and ordering is done at the front with minimal service; you order, sit down, and staff will bring your food and that's the circle here. We ordered a couple of rolls, stir fried noodles, and a vermicelli bowl. The wok tossed beef noodles were slightly bland and a bit monotone. The spring roll was fine but I really couldn't tell if the crispy roll was homemade or pre-frozen. The vermicelli bowl was alright; the beef didn't taste very Vietnamese honestly but the bowl tasted closer to expected after fish sauce was added. Overall, it's Heights priced Vietnamese food and fairly close to what you would expect from a Vietnamese spot. Nothing stood out in terms of flavor profile but there were no huge misses either. I'm not too big a fan of the casual service style spots vs a full dining service but that's to cut down costs on staffing.

Always happy to have another Vietnamese food option in the neighborhood - this is one of the recent outposts in this restaurant's expansion throughout town. Light, inviting interior makes this a nice place to stop by and enjoy a meal while catching up with friends or family. Typical Vietnamese food options prepared fresh and beautifully plated. I had their egg roll vermicelli and really enjoyed that it was bursting with flavor and did not skimp on the accent ingredients. Order at the counter and then they will bring your meal to you. Parking - large, private lot (woohoo!)

This is my first time at this location. Came with a friend for a late lunch. He got the Five Spice Hen, and I was torn between the Shaking Chicken or Curry Chicken. It's counter service so I took my dilemma to the cashier. He was very helpful with providing pros and cons between the two. I decided to follow his suggestion and got the Shaking Chicken but Xtra Spicy. The food arrived and the Five Spice Hen looked great. My friend enjoyed the meal. I hate to say it but I liked my salad the most from my plate. The chicken wasn't spicy at all which is surprising considering the original location will turn up the heat. Portion was decent but I feel thigh meat would have been a better taste. All in all it was sufficient just not memorable. The space is decorated nicely and clean, there is a full bar, and they offer desserts. Please check them out.

The decor here is so cute! Lots of available parking in the lot. Service is quick and easy- you order up in the front. Everyone we talked to was super nice. The shrimp spring rolls were packed and might be our new favorite in the heights! We also tried the mango lychee drink (not pictured unfortunately) and that was such a satisfying refresher! The entrees all tasted fresh- the shaking beef was probably our favorite. The sauce helped provide the salt and peppered taste. Overall left feeling full and satisfied! We will be back!

This place is a must! It's so understated, but so worth your time and money! The cocktails are amazing! The food is delicious! The service was also amazing. The cashier offered suggestions that turned out to be on point! The dining room is clean and well decorated. The noise level was super low. I can't wait to return!

I've been to their Montrose location maybe a handful? of times. Not my favorite Vietnamese spot but not the worst. This Heights location -- I felt so underwhelmed. Cannot put my finger on it but the entire experience, the energy was off. Ordered at the counter (could be confusing for someone new) and when my food came out and I immediately went and confirmed this was fish sauce? The color, the oil, I have never seen any fish sauce look like this. She confirmed it was their fish sauce and it looks different because they use a chili oil from Seattle? I love finding good Vietnamese food in the loop as a Vietnamese person but I didn't end up finishing my food tbh it just wasn't doing it for me. There's parking in the back. Entrance locations are a bit confusing as well.

Very good! Fast and friendly service with easy parking so perfect for families. We got the shaking beef and I would highly recommend. We got the kids fried rice and our son loved it. Portions are good and we will be back!

My perfect healthy lunch place! Love love love the shaking chicken! Chicken is cooked perfectly and with such a yummy sauce, rice is fantastic, veggies are fresh, it's honestly the perfect healthy lunch it's filling and yummy. There's parking in the back, didn't have any issue parking but it wasn't lunch time when I went. Service was fast and friendly and everything was very clean and nice. They have big windows that you can look out of while you eat.

Soft opening this week. They're off to a good start already. The food is really good and as Nick explained, clean! We'll be back very soon.

Our food also came with injera. Everything was really tasty; the chicken was tender and the lamb had a nice kick to it (we got the medium spice level). The honey tea was what really won me over. It was sweet and had a roasted flavor that reminded me of brown rice/genmaicha tea. I ended up buying a bottle of it to take home. Our server was also very nice and helpful! There is an attached parking lot to the side. We came around 7:30pm on a Monday and it was quite empty. The interior is very spacious and cozy feeling.

After 10 minutes, nothing. Another 10 minutes passed, still nothing. The restaurant wasn't even busy, just one family there before us. We finally got our appetizers at 8:28 PM, and at that point we still hadn't received our entrees. Another 10 minutes went by with no food. We tried to be patient, but we were really hungry and had driven all the way from Katy for this. My mom was fasting, and we were expecting a nice dinner, but the experience was honestly disappointing. Our entrees didn't arrive until 8:48 PM. We ordered the lamb injera, and it was honestly terrible. It had no seasoning, no salt, and just looked like it had some yellow coloring. The injera itself was cold, almost icy in some spots. On top of that, there were barely any meat pieces, maybe 4-5 small pieces, which is ridiculous for a dish that costs around $27-28. We also ordered a chicken dish, which was actually the only decent part of the meal. But it's definitely not worth coming here just for that. The prices here are high, and we were fine paying for good food. The problem was the long wait time and the poor quality. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

You order online hosted by hot plate and pick up at your scheduled time/date at their house. I ordered it but someone else picked up around 2 hours later. You get an automated text when it's ready and you text when you're there. For special requests, you can call/text the number as well; he was pretty helpful and responsive and mentioned to my brother in law that he personally made sure everything had no alliums at pick up. As a note: my family consists of allium-free vegetarians (with one vegan) so we asked ahead of time what our options were before we went for it. He (I really should have gotten his name) gave us a list of rolls that could be made allium free and we chose from them so you could say they do have an allium free menu upon request. We pretty much got almost everything on his list. For 5 adults, we ordered a total of 10 rolls: LOW-KEY LOKI (2) CLASSIC SPICY TUNAH (2) NIKCO ROCK N ROLL SPICY MAMI, HOT TAMALE SPICY DRAGON FIRECRACKER (2) When we opened the boxes, it turns out that he included an extra roll of SPICY MAMI, HOT TAMALE as well as a small container of seaweed salad which I thought was really nice of him! Or maybe we spent too much or there's some buy 10 rolls get 1 free promotion I was unaware of, haha. It was an unexpected surprise. I also have 2 kids but one has multiple food allergies and the other one is picky. She wanted a sweet potato roll, but it's not on the menu so we rolled up some seaweed rice rolls for them ahead of time so they weren't left out. I didn't bring up my kids because we wanted to ease in with the allium free request and go from there. Plus, one of the food allergens is avocado and that was found in almost every roll. On that note, there's an option to make it gluten-free on each item's page, which is pretty awesome. There's also an option to use soy paper instead of seaweed and to add extra ingredients at additional cost. My family shared everything so my plate was a mix and I honestly lost track of what I was eating at the time for personal notes. But honestly? Everything was delicious. Sushi was the last thing I gave up before becoming vegetarian and I'm picky with the sushi I eat now. These are very good and I must say if I lived in Houston, I'd order again. I do wish there was a place to sit or picnic nearby, but this worked as well. (We all congregated at a house.) There was one roll that definitely had a kick to it. Oddly enough, SPICY MAMI was not it. My nose tends to run with spicy food and I didn't get to that point but it was close after that one spicy piece. Overall, a great experience. Our rolls were $8 to $17 each, 8 pieces per roll. It was around $27.20 per person before tips and tax/fees from hot plate ($7.35). They were nicely packed complete with edible orchid flowers, and personal cups of ginger and wasabi as well as chopsticks and soy sauce packets. We finished everything. This certainly wasn't cheap but when is sushi affordable enough to be a daily thing? I do wish there weren't service fees added on top, but I guess the platform needs support too. Delicious and something to try whether or not you're vegan. I hope to order again our next time in town. Many thanks to the chef for the excellent experience and his help!

Not quite sure what to expect, I was pleased to see that it's completely plant-based including the pastries and no extra plus charge for alternative milks (praise!) I ended up ordering their pistachio latte which had a really rich, bold espresso note and a sweet cardamom finish at the bottom of the cup. I would definitely get this again but might try to stir it before drinking for a more even flavor distribution. In terms of the setting, there's lots of small tables and couches to work and study with either a small group or alone. They also have a back patio with additional seating, board games, and even a printer which can be hard to find in this day and age. Overall the vibe is relaxed and casual. Finally, while I had to wait about 30 minutes to order and receive my drink, I had some time to watch their workflow and would offer some suggestions for improvement to speed up their service. The staff all clearly put a lot of care into preparing each drink and were doing the best they could to move quickly, but the layout of the back counter area is fairly inefficient. To start, the ice well for cold drinks is on the complete opposite side of the register away from their espresso machines. This added a lot of steps for the staff to prepare iced coffee drinks. Secondly, the straws were also quite a reach for the staff across the counter, also by the ice well. Finally, the order retrieval process is not the best. There are no names written on the cups and customers are sometimes in the bathroom or outside on the back patio when their order is ready. It can be hard for the staff to locate the right customer or if the drink gets left on the counter, it's hard to know what it is and who it is for. Overall, a pleasant (plant-based!) discovery but hoping they might consider a few steps (pun intended) to reduce the strain on their staff.

The team behind the popular restaurant Nobie's opened up this tiki inspired restaurant. Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. These were also very good. If I lived in the area, this place would easily be a place I would frequent often. I will most definitely be back!
