I have been eating here for YEARS! In my opinion, this place is outstanding.! After reading some of the yelp reviews... Some may disagree with me . Ha! It used to be located in a much larger more beautiful space, but times change, I understand. I've never ordered something I didn't love here. Their Vietnamese hot and sour soup is absolutely divine. I could eat it so many times a week! The wait staff has always been attentive and lovely. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend.

Alright, I'm biased because I love everything Viet. From the hot guys to the culture...sign me up! I digress...back to Viet food and where to dine...I will always choose a dive spot. With that said, if you have friends new to the culture and you don't want to see their "dive" face smirk because they're too fancy- then bring them to Vietopia! It's an affordable beautiful option with cultural ambiance. Our server was prompt, polite and made sure our drinks were topped off. We ordered the beef and pork rice plates with extra fried egg on top. Flavorful, large portions and the sauces which accompanied these plates were delish! Photos say it all. It's located right off 59 next to the "waterburger" for my Texas peeps!

It's been years since I last stepped foot in Vietopia (#1). There are still lots of memories for my initial experiences here in Houston. It seems not much has changed: The food is still very sweet, the menu is still super Americanized, the place is still incredibly spacious, and I'm still giving it three stars. There isn't a lot of Viet anything going on in West U, so the many years that they've been able to operate in this space has hopefully been fruitful. The high ceilings, large tables, fun Asian decor pieces are such a vibe. I also like the big bar with the TVs in the back, the big booths, and the general ambiance of this place. It's clear the menu is attributed to the local crowd, as there's almost zero Vietnamese and lots of descriptions of common dishes. It's also written in such a casual way where in the beverage section there's a blurb that says "ice cream additional charge yummy" and random smiley faces =) in the text. There's even a section of the menu thats is called "Just Try It Something Different" which got a good laugh out of my group and I. Overall, the dishes are pricey but the variety is definitely there. My items were across the board: I ordered their stir fried beef thin noodles aka pho xao ($20), Vietnamese crepe aka banh xeo ($18), tomato fried rice (#2), a large soft shell crab ($29), egg rolls ($12), a Vietnamese iced coffee aka caphe sua da and the wok flaming beef aka bo luc lac ($26). The Vietnamese iced coffee was fire. It was velvety with a nearly chocolate like consistency and was full of sugary, condensed milk. Other than that everything was kind of disappointing. The flaming beef was overcooked and caked in an overly sweet sauce, the soft shell crab was decent, and the mussels didn't seem fresh. The egg rolls were solid, but not $3 each solid and the banh xeo was falling apart. Despite the disappointments with the food, the service from Nam was excellent. He was patient with the group and offered suggestions throughout the meal. Polite and professional is the best way to describe his service, which was very much appreciated. They charge an automatic 20% on large groups and there is a take-out fee applied as well. The parking is plentiful. I'm not sure if I'd be quick to return. Perhaps it'll be another decade and a half before I step in here again. __________ (#1) 16 years ago: Might not have been an H-Town resident yet but I was still around, young buck. (#2) I genuinely thought this was Mexican rice at first. Turns out they offer jasmine white rice, brown rice, and tomato fried rice.

Extensive menu, but the capable server walked me through the selections. Outstanding service and food. I've not been here in some time, but my wife is a frequent patron. The food quality has improved and the service couldn't have been better. Ample parking.

    Old fashioned

I was greeted like family. The staff didn't just serve, they genuinely cared. Sweet, friendly, and full of smiles, they created an atmosphere that was cozy and warm.the food was amazing. Every bite was packed with flavor and clearly made with love and skill. Whether it wasthe perfect portion sizes, or the little details in presentation,it was a masterclass in delight. The environment felt like a hidden gem: spotless, stylish, and inviting. Whether you're dining solo or with friends, you'll feel right at home. Can't wait to come back, his place is the definition of comfort and good taste.

Cool ambience and great name for a Vietnamese restaurant. Their Vietopia dumplings are excellent and their iced Vietnamese coffee is as well. Prompt service also. Definitely recommended!

I came here with some co-workers because they were saying this place had good lunch specials. When we arrived, they were pretty busy for lunch service and gave us a fairly big table for 3 people. I ordered the noodle with grilled chicken and fish sauce. We also ordered some eggrolls to share around the table! Everything was fairly delicious, but the chicken was very dry and there was way too much noodles in the bowl compared to the chicken portion. I definitely would prefer something else like a rice dish instead. The space is very spacious and great for groups of any size to come enjoy a meal together!

It was just ok. Great service. Clean inside. It's huge! Large bar and drink menu. And many food options but for the quality of Vietnamese food in Houston it was kinda blah. The dumpling soup was ok but the beef lo mein was also just ok. Ig had plenty of beef and the vegetables were well cook but it was greasy and the water chestnuts were sour. When I told the waiter he said they are supposed to be like that. I've never had them taste like this in Vietnamese food but I ate around them. The portion size was also small for around $20 I likely won't be back.

Yum, Yum, Yum!!! I came to this restaurant with my work team. It was highly recommended. They have all seem to have been here before, so I was behind on cool restaurants. Glad we came here because this place is great!!! Location: Vietopia is located in a shopping center right off of highway 59. Parking: It's hard to miss so there is plenty of parking at the restaurant in the Shopping Center. Food: * This place has a full bar, so of course, I ordered a Lemon Drop Martini. * For appetizer, I ordered the Egg Rolls and they were delish. You can tell that they were homemade. * For my meal, I also ordered the Pepper Chicken Entrée Dish, which came with brown rice. The portion size was so much so that I had no room for dessert and had some food to take home. Service: The service was great! Our Server was very attentive to our large group. He was also able to recommend great food and drinks.

The filling is placed in a pan and then a thin layer of batter made with tumeric and coconut milk yellow batter is poured on top. You wrap the lettuce around the bánh xèo/bánh khọt and dip it in the fish sauce. I got the bánh khọt and the bò né. Bánh khọt is like a mini, thicker version of bánh xèo and came with nine pieces. Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. It's nice having an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in our area, close to us, so we don't have to make the trek to Bellaire every time we crave some Viet food!

I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. The restaurant is clean, the owner is very nice, and it's a nice low key space to just enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

Upon arriving, every table was taken except our table w a reserved sign on it. The restaurant was bustling, but I could still hear my husband over the music and noise. The menu is huge!!! I didn't know where to start. But our server, Vanessa, helped us make a few choices. We started off w bánh xèo tostadas, bánh béo, & carpaccio. Then we had calamari and their steak special. I asked for a side of papaya slaw for some veggies. My favorite dish of the night was the carpaccio. So many flavors perfectly melded together. Loved the crunch of the fried onions and peanuts. 10/10 dish, in my opinion. Authentic banh xèo usually has an airier, crisp crepe, but theirs was more crunchy - great for their tostada take. Very flavorful. Each piece had one shrimp, but plenty of pork belly bites. The nuoc mam drizzled on it was tasty. Fried calamari - this is a big dish for, I believe, $'19. I prefer the dipping sauce on the side so that the batter doesn't get soggy. This did happen here, but it didn't stop us from finishing every last bite. The green sauce was good, not the usual dipping sauce for fried calamari. Steak special - they have another steak dish on their menu, but this one was pepper crusted w smashed potatoes. The potatoes were super crispy and flavorful and the steak was perfectly cooked - a beautiful pink medium rare. The portion was huge and justified the $39 price point. The staple steak dish came with a papaya slaw and I had to have it. It was bright and limey - I can see why they serve it with their steak. Bánh beo - my least favorite of the night. A bit thicker than I like. Still good, but there were a lot of other great dishes that I could easily pass on this one. Try their hibiscus artichoke tea.
