This is probably one of the fanciest restaurants in Tracy. Service was decent, however, food was hit or miss. Happy Hour 2-7PM with special appetizers and discount off drinks. Food: *Rack of lamb (4.5 stars, $35) - Besides it being a bit pricey, I would highly recommend this dish. Four pieces of lamb with a side of Basque style beans in a tomato sauce. I asked for medium rare, and only one piece was overcooked. *Prime Rib Bites (Happy Hour appetizer, $10, 3.5 stars) - Slices of meat cuddled by a large piece of super crispy puff pastry drizzled with a horseradish aioli. The only downside was some meat was not that tender. *Prawn Fettucini (2 stars, $21) - This is the worst Fettucini I've had had. The supposedly creamy white sauce was grainy from the parmesan cheese, and the entire dish didn't have much flavor. What a disappointment, especially for the price. *French onion soup (2 stars, $8, $6 as a side) - The soup and the cheese didn't go well together, that's all I'm going to say. The waiter give us the option to have the soup as a side for Rack of Lamb entree, but didn't tell us that is would be $6 instead of free. It created some confusion when we had to pay. Drink: South Carolina Peach ($4.5) - a sparkling peach drink with just the right level of sweetness. It was so good that I had 2 :) *Dessert: Banana Walnut Caramel Crepe (4.5 stars, $9) - Who can complain about a warm sweet crepe stuffed with banana and walnut and served with ice cream?? This was our first time at this establishment. I know it has been in Tracy for about 10 years (That says something being around that long in Tracy). We enjoyed our meal. I had the Teriyaki Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus. My wife had the Portobello Mushroom Pasta dish. Both dishes started with a House Salad. The food tasted great and the portions were nice size. They also have a full bar along with different beer and wine offerings. After our meal we ordered desert. They do different type of desert crepes and other sweet choices. We also had coffee. I wish the coffee was better but it was ok. They do offer different types of coffee (Like Irish coffee and other coffee drinks with alcohol) The staff was very friendly and the owner is a very nice man. I would have given this a 4 1/2 star rating if I could. The reason it was not a 5 Star is we (my wife and I) thought that they could have spaced or timed the meal serving a little better. We got our salad and a few minutes later our meal arrived. The only other thing is that they could have waited for both of us to have finished our meal before taking away plates. This way the other person doesn't feel rushed. There was a constant flow of people but not to the point that you need to turn tables. It looks like they do a good business and probably do get swamped.I understand that when a place is swamped that you need to turn tables. We will definitely go back and try some other dishes. We both started with a cup of clam chowder and I can honestly say every spoon full was filled with clams, celery and potatoes and I'm glad it only came with one grilled piece of bread because I could have made a meal from that alone it was so good!! Came for the Soul Food Brunch and got the southern fried chicken with Mac and mashed potatoes. Both my chicken and potatoes were on the dry side, but still had a good flavor. The 4-cheese Mac was nice and cheesy without the consistency and flavor of liquid or powdered cheese. (The next Sunday I come, I'll have to check out the catfish beignets!) Also ordered a spicy Bloody Mary and it came garnished with deliciously spicy pickled asparagus and green beans. Unfortunately it was a little heavy on the horseradish for me this time. M&J allowed us to sit on their patio and took care of all our drinks while we ate our sushi. The server Gabriel was polite and attentive and the drinks were all delicious! Menu has variety of salads, pastas, fish and meats. Restaurant also has full bar and great drinks. We happened to go last night. Social distancing is very well observed. Appetizers, (amazing home made chips and the Bruschetta) Everyone raved about the different choices that included Halibut, Spinach Ravioli, and what I had which was a perfectly prepared Rib Eye... Please don't get me started on desserts... the Nutty Buddy was so amazing! Dinner meetings are one time when I can't capture very many photos as I have an agenda that I'm following. Dropped in spontaneously for a late lunch on a Tuesday. The service was excellent and they were training a new server. I could tell they have high standards for the staff. We met the owner and he made us fell very welcome. My husband loved the Whiskey Bacon Cheeseburger, and I enjoyed my made to order Chopped Salad with Chicken, Bacon and Blue Cheese. Wanting to try more local spots I've always had M&J bistro bookmarked as a must try so finally decided to do a to go order from here given we are in a pandemic and I didn't want to sit outside and eat. I placed an order for pick up through the website that they have set up and arrived a bit early. I was met at the entryway and told my drink mix was being finished by the bartender that works here. He asked me some questions about if I'd like it mixed and recommended I do it at home with his instructions so that it wouldn't be watered down which I agreed with. Meal was ready shortly there after and I picked it all up to take home. The food was pretty good ...the ravioli I got was delicious and had what appeared to be a mixture of grilled shrimp with non grilled shrimp and a grilled lobster. I loved the taste of the grilled shrimp and lobster and would have enjoyed it more if all the seafood was grilled but it was good and filling. The pizza crust was amazing and I really enjoyed that as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce but that's because I usually get white sauce on my pizza and had this one just as the restaurant makes it. The toppings were standard for a margherita pizza and worked well. The fried shrimp appetizer was also pretty good and seasoned well. The empanada crust again was amazing ...there was a bit too much olive for my liking but if you enjoy olives this dish will be great for you. My friend who is a fan of olives said it was delicious. The quarantini was a nice treat to take home and mix and I loved how it changed color as I mixed it. Overall I had a great meal from here and I'm glad I was able to take it to go and support a great local restaurant. I will be back again when dine in inside is open to give them a try on service and try some of their crepes which have been on my mind. read more

My favorite (finer type dining) date night place in Tracy - I don't bring my little kids here specifically because it is a more mature, quiet, dim lighted, and relaxed setting. I don't have any negatives but I've been only 4 times, as we are new to Tracy from of course the Bay Area. Finding above average places to eat in the Lathrop/ Tracey area is challenging if trying to avoid the chain restaurants. M & J is a standout for finer dining. Don't let the strip mall location scare you off. One inside, the waiters and staff are awesome. From Steaks to seafood to pasta, the food was excellent. I had the chicken with pasta in a Parmesan sauce. The sauce was not heavy, pasta cooked perfectly, and the chicken tender. My guests had the lobster ravioli and none of us left anything on our plates. And I appreciate the portion sizes. If you are looking for giant plates of mediocre food, this is not your restaurant. If you are looking for the right portion of food with room for dessert, this is it. I will be back on my next trip. read more
