I wasn't aware Tracy had a "romantic" restaurant until I wandered into Magellan's on a Saturday. I was craving calamari and didn't want to deal with crowds at the other places that I know have it. It was serene. Mostly filled with couples and the cloth table linens and mood lighting synched it. Service was terrific and everything was good. The vibe was very different from lunch. Great date spot or place to take your parents. Be sure to make a reservation. I got lucky because I dined early. Recommended. read more

Great place and the service was top notch. We went for my DIL birthday (her choice) and it was fabulous. We were not sure what to get so... To start we had the grilled scallops and the tomato salad. Very tasty and presented well. For the main course we had the New York Steak, that had a great flavor(son's dish) . My wife had something on the "secret menu"....Oxtails! They were really yummy. I had the Rack of Lamp that was packed with flavor. Even better than our local place. For dessert was the mud pie and tiramisu. All delicious. The absolute best place place for a fancy dinner in Tracy. The place is tucked away in downtown and beautiful inside. Super rustic with exposed brick walls. The owner serves the food himself and truly enjoys what he does. We ordered a few calamari appetizers, Caesar salads, Porterhouse steaks, mustard chicken, and other delicious meals. A party of 11 was no problem and we had plenty of room. It's a little dark in the restaurant but believe me, the food looks amazing and tastes better. read more

We had dinner at Magellan's with two of our friends, prior to attending a concert up the street from the restaurant. When we mentioned to our server that we had a concert to attend, he paid extra attention to us and made sure we got our food in a timely manner and he was very attentive I had the salmon and it was amazing! Overpriced lunch and rude service I ordered a Parmesan salad and asked if the proprietor/server if they served wild salmon which was one of the protein additions offered to top the salad and he reacted as if I had a stupid question and answered no, and continued to say their (farmed) salmon came Scotland in the North Sea like because it came from Scotland it was supposed to be better than wild salmon. I didn't like his answer so said I'll have chicken. This was a communication problem he order a chicken dish instead of the chicken topping. I did not ask for any of his chicken dishes but somehow he took the liberty to order it for me. Later when he served me the salad I asked where was the chicken. He said it was still cooking in the kitchen and there they normally serve the salad before the dish. I had to carefully explain that I had ordered the salad with the chicken topping as it is in the menu. He seemed to blame me for his misunderstanding We had our twin 3-year old grandsons with us, but they had no children's menu, but the proprietor offered two little bowls of pasta with a meatball in each serving. I didn't ask him the price because weI trusted him it would be reasonably priced, but later I found out he charged over $29 for the two small simple dishes of spaghetti which was much more expensive than if we had ordered a more complete adult dish split in two. I believe he does not care to offer good service to families because it doesn't support the image of an exclusive dining experience he pretends to offer. read more

I took a chance with this place and so glad I did! We wanted to celebrate so My husband and I went here the other night and wow.The food was so good, we had appetizers, Dinner and dessert, it's truly a hidden Gem, our waiter, Guillermo was so on top of it, he took care of the whole dinning area. Both the owner and Guillermo work as a good team, they took care of all the customers, even when it got a little busy, I can't wait to make another special occasion and come back. What to expect: A very small, very dark and very quiet establishment. Good for a casual night out, but offers upscale menu and service while dining. No physical menus provided. Only QR code which made things a little awkward considering only one of us brought our phone. You also have to place your appetizer and entree order all at one time and the kitchen will course out your meal for you. I enjoyed the scallops and mussels for my appetizer, the mussels were my favorite. I also had the Halibut for my main course which I really enjoyed and paired it with a glass of Vinho Verde (Portuguese Wine) I appreciate how the owner had a Portuguese wine selection and Portuguese dessert option. It's a nice touch when you are in the mood for Portuguese cuisine, but want to stay local. read more

Came here to celebrate my husband's birthday, and it was a fantastic! He ordered the filet mignon, and it was one of the most tender, flavorful steaks we've had in a long time (of course, I had to steal a few bites!). The calamari and Caesar salad were also excellent. I'm a bit of a Caesar dressing fanatic, and they absolutely nailed it. We finished the meal with the crème brûlée, which was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. This is our family's favorite celebration spot. We recently visited for my sister's birthday and enjoyed everything as always from the Calamari starter, the delicious Caesar Salads, (which is the best I've had) to all of our entrees. Thomas is a one-man show most of the time as the only server/bartender. This has never negatively affected the quality of service for us. Every course of our meals came out in a timely manner, and it's always nice having great conversations with Thomas. Everything I've tried here is delicious. I personally avoid eating red meat, but you can't go wrong with the Atlantic Salmon, the Mustard Chicken, and the Carbonara Pasta. The food is always very consistent in taste, quality, and the way it's cooked, which is not something you can say about many restaurants. At first blush, this place is dark inside, so it sets that romantic mood. We were told to go online to see the menu. I know we're in pandemic times but I think they could benefit from at least having a QR code for the menu. We had snacked at home prior to dinner so thankfully I wasn't super hungry, because our food took about 45 minutes to come out. This is also why we didn't order any appetizers, we were full from our snacks. We noticed there were other people in the same boat also waiting on their food. Perhaps not enough staff? The Filet mignon was cooked as requested, medium rare. The seasoning could've been a tad more aggressive but the sauce it came with was good. The rack of lamb lollipops were tinier than I imagined. But they were seasoned perfectly and cooked to a medium rare. We asked for something spicy, like tabasco. We were brought this bottle of stuff, the guy said the name but I forgot. It was okay, but not spicy. Both dishes came with the same veggies. The portion of veggies seemed small to me and they could've been more generous in that area. read more

Went with my wife on a Friday evening. I've heard about this restaurant for years but it was our first time trying, and we were both really impressed. The ambiance is cozy- the decor is very simple. It was perfect for two, and we saw parties of 4-5, but since the dining room is small, you'd want reservations especially for a larger group. It wasn't too loud. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, and friendly. Service was prompt. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass, as well as a full bar for cocktails. The menu I'd describe as a California spin on an Italian bistro, with a lot of seafood options, as well as pastas, steaks, and chops. We shared a crab cake appetizer: it had a spicy kick, and excellent homemade tartar sauce. A simple salad of greens and tomato with shaved Parmesan cheese was fresh and tasty. My wife had scallops with a creamy curry sauce- perfectly cooked, tender, and the sauce was delicious. I had seared duck breast with a cranberry glaze- also very tender and tasty. And we shared an apple pie ala mode, with a homemade pastry crust. Everything was delicious, freshly prepared, and nicely presented, and the prices are really quite reasonable considering the quality. It's nice to have another option for an upscale dinner in Tracy, whether for a date night, family celebration, or entertaining guests. read more

Surprising find in a quaint historic crossroads in Tracy. Small intimate setting with about 8-10 tables inside and a few outside with a prime view of the roundabout. The interior featured dark wood, adding to the quiet, speakeasy like atmosphere. Service was initially slow for our party of but more attentive as the meal progressed. Moscow mules, a classic martini and a manhattan were well crafted. The scallops starting the meal were fresh and astoundingly delicious. We ordered the filet mignon with a peppercorn veal demi glaze, mahi mahi in white wine cream, rack of lamb in a garlic cabernet demi glaze, and an Alaskan halibut in lemon pesto cream. Tried this for the first time last night for our wedding anniversary. We picked the perfect spot! It was fancy, quiet, romantic, and the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered braised short rib and Atlantic salmon with pasta. Five out of five stars for sure! Plus they had my favorite Rombauer Zinfandel to top it off. Highly recommend. I will definitely be back. Went in at 537 and we were turned away due to not having a reservation. Which was ridiculous because 6 tables were open and no one waiting to be seated. Definitely won't be returning to a place who doesn't want our business when they aren't even busy. We would have been fine with waiting but that wasn't even an option.
